| Emma Watson, 23: 'I?ve never been in a terrible rush to be seen as a woman' | Added 11 years ago | Source: CeleBitchy |

I was all prepared to dislike Emma Watson?s W Magazine pictorial (photographs by Michael Thompson), but I actually think it works. Emma?s styled as an old-school screen siren, and while I would be rolling my eyes if the magazine tried to make her look like Marilyn Monroe, they succeeded in making her look sort of like Barbara Stanwyck or Jennifer Jones (two criminally underrated stars of Hollywood?s Golden Era). Anyway, Emma is promoting The Bling Ring (which she?s currently promoting in Cannes), and you can read her full W Mag piece here. Some highlights (this is most of the interview):
W: What is the first movie you remember seeing?
EW: Pretty Woman. I was 7, which was way, way too young. That was when I started loving Julia Roberts and American movies. As a child, I loved being onstage. I loved singing, I loved the lights, I loved the adrenaline. I even loved learning lines. I was completely obsessive. A friend of my mother?s found a tape of me auditioning for Hermione. I wanted to get really, really good at my lines. There was reel after reel, take after take, of me doing the same thing over and over again.
Did you ever feel the pressure of having to be a shining example to young girls worldwide?
I was always a very serious child. I remember being 13 and girls in my class saying, ?So-and-so is going to kiss so-and-so on the school fields.? I said, ?That?s stupid. They?re too young for it to matter?he doesn?t love her, and that?s just a waste of time.? It?s amazing that I had any friends! [Laughs] So I was the right child to get cast: I loved the responsibility.
Did you have your first kiss on camera?
Thankfully, no. I?ve always been fascinated by Elizabeth Taylor, and I had read that her first kiss happened on a film set, which actually made me a little sad. You need to have normal experiences of your own. I?ve never wanted to grow up too fast: I wanted to wear a sports bra until I was 22! The allure of being sexy never really held any excitement for me. I?ve never been in a terrible rush to be seen as a woman.
And yet, in The Bling Ring, you are a little bit of a bad girl.
With Nicki, I was really taking on a character. Some of her lines are so crazy and absurd?making sure she wasn?t a parody was a challenge.
Did her outfits help you get into character?
Who wouldn?t love to go to work in Uggs and very low-slung tracksuit bottoms? The iconic detail of Nicki is her tramp stamp. It?s a lotus flower, a Buddhist-like symbol just above her butt crack. Really classy! [Laughs] And at one point I told the costume designer, ?You can see my bra strap in this top; shouldn?t we pin it?? And she said, ?No, sweetie?Nicki is all about her bra strap showing.? I was like, Right, okay, different mind-set.
When did you realize you were famous?
I lived in denial for as long as I possibly could. Until the age of 18, I would take the Oxford Tube, which is a public bus. Then it got to the point where the fact that I was on the bus would spread from one end to the other. I?d think, Why am I doing this to myself? Ignoring fame was my rebellion, in a funny way. I was insistent on being normal and doing normal things. It probably wasn?t advisable to go to college in America and room with a complete stranger. And it probably wasn?t wise to share a bathroom with eight other people in a coed dorm. Looking back, that was crazy.
I?m surprised you chose to come to America.
I?ve always loved America. When we came here with Harry Potter, everyone was so warm. Eventually, all of my friends were American, and I think that?s why I was attracted to playing Americans, even extreme ones like Nicki. When I?m presented with a character, I think, Hmmm?I have not had this experience. I don?t really know what this would be like. I?ll have the experience through the character.
Do you have a Hollywood crush?
My cinematic crush has been pretty much the same since I was 12: Kevin Costner. I met him in an elevator the other day, and I couldn?t even speak. He said hello, because he is lovely like that, and I couldn?t say anything back.
Kevin Costner is so American.
Of course! Kevin Costner is forever. And America too!
[From W Magazine]
I think it?s sweet that she?s so enamored with America and American films. I feel like there are so many British and European actors like that, actors who dream of coming to Hollywood to work in big Hollywood movies.
I do wonder about this statement though ? ?I?ve never wanted to grow up too fast: I wanted to wear a sports bra until I was 22! The allure of being sexy never really held any excitement for me. I?ve never been in a terrible rush to be seen as a woman.? Do normal 23-year-olds speak like that? I think teenagers ? teenage girls in particular ? are always in a rush to be seen as older, to be considered women rather than girls. But maybe things have changed since I was a teenager. Sigh. Emma makes me feel like an old fart.

| Emma Watson in Christopher Kane for Cannes 'Bling Ring' photocall: so cute' | Added 11 years ago | Source: CeleBitchy |

Ah, I forgot that The Bling Ring is premiering at Cannes. And it?s happening today! These are some photos from The Bling Ring photocall just a short time ago. Sofia Coppola looks especially cute, I think, but doesn?t she live in France most of the time? So of course she knows how to dress for Cannes ? I even think her outfit looks slightly nautical, which is totally in line with CFF.
Emma Watson, star of The Bling Ring, chose this maroon Christopher Kane Fall 2013 collection dress with some kind of feathery accents. At first I thought the accents were bejeweled something or other, and I?m pleased to see I was wrong. I think if it was glittery and bejeweled, it would have been wrong for the photocall, but with the feathers it?s just a really cute little dress. It looks great on her too! I love her minimalist styling here too ? I don?t know if she?s got a really great makeup person or if she?s just wearing barely any makeup, but she looks so fresh and dewy. Good hair too ? I always think she looks better with her hair slicked back or pulled back in some way, as opposed to loose with some bangs.
I?m excited to see what Emma wears for the premiere! I?m excited to see what Sofia pulls out too. Maybe some Marc Jacobs? Or is she over Marc?
Did we ever watch the full-length trailer for The Bling Ring? I actually think Emma is doing a bang-up job with the accent work, and she?s not someone I associate with ?the ability to do an American accent?. But she does that bored, nasal Valley Girl accent really well.

Here is Emma Watson looking like a movie star from head to toe today when she arrived in Nice Airport. Emma highlighted her every curve in the dress, which she teamed with black ankle boots.
She will be on hand to present her film The Bling Ring along with director Sofia Coppola. They’re screening the movie, based on the true story about a group of young people who robbed Hollywood celebrities, ahead of its opening in the US on June 14.
Has she ever heard of sandals? Always with the boots.

Here is Emma Watson wearing mini printed dresses when she took to the red carpet for the 2013 Met Gala in New York City. The British star of the upcoming “The Bling Ring” kept it sexy and simple in the revealing yet fashionable gown at the Met Ball.
I like to think that all she had on underneath that dress was a hint of perfume.

| Emma Watson in cutout Prabal Gurung at the Met Gala: boring or striking? | Added 11 years ago | Source: CeleBitchy |

I love to see what Emma Watson wears on the red carpet because she loves contemporary fashion, she can rock some tiny micro minis, and she takes risks. So I thought that last night was a real missed opportunity for her. She wore this cutout Prabal Gurung wrap-look dress which just fell flat for me. For any other red carpet, for something like a movie premiere or an event, this would have worked well. It fits her like a dream, it highlights her great figure, and I love her sleek hair. This was supposed to be a punk night, and I would have loved to have seen her mix it up with some contrasting patterns or even some wild accessories like Sarah Jessica Parker. As it was, this was too safe. Her only nod to punk is an asymmetric earring. Still, she looks super cute.
Also, in some photos the dress looks navy blue, but I think that’s just due to the flash. It was probably black.
Uma Thurman baffled me in this green Zac Posen fishtail gown. She looked pretty, she really worked that dress, but this is in no way punk. These designers know the theme well ahead of time, they could have worked in a funky belt for her, but she just wore a dress more suited for the Oscars with glamorous styling and classic accessories. Very pretty, but staid and not mixing it up at all.
Julianne Hough at least tried a little in this reinterpretation of a strapless princess gown, from TopShop. Kaiser covered Nicole Richie’s TopShop gown, and both women did have punky looks. I like the geometric spider web-type print on the gown, the irregular hemline with a black tulle underskirt, her studded shoes and her black and white manicure. She even had some cool overdone eyelashes paired with nude makeup. Whoever styled Julianne did a great job. I think she’s wearing a spider ring too!
As we heard would happen, Tiger Woods and Lindsey Vonn made their red carpet debut as a couple. All I can do it smirk and shake my head. How is this plain white dress with gold drop earrings “punk”? Something nice: she toned down the raccoon eye makeup and her hair looks pretty.

| Emma Watson in Maxime Simoens at the MTV Movie Awards: adorable, bizarre? | Added 11 years ago | Source: CeleBitchy |

Emma Watson was the recipient of the “Trailblazer” award at the MTV Movie Awards last night, presented by a lovely Eddie Redmayne rocking the hell out of a leather jacket. His whole outfit was like catnip to me, but I digress. Emma was super cute in a short Maxine Simoens white and black contemporary gown with some cool architectural details along the neckline. When I saw this dress on camera last night I thought it was by Brood, as I covered it when Emma wore a similar dress by that designer last year. Emma loves contemporary, edgy kind of sci-fi little dresses and this is better than anything we’ve seen her in to date, in my opinion. It’s not as busy as her previous dresses but it still has plenty of eyecatching details.
Emma was so pretty last night and I especially liked her simple hair and understated makeup. Her shoes are by Proenza Schouler and they’re hot in my opinion. They could have overwhelmed the dress but instead they match the look without looking too “matchy”.
In terms of Emma’s speech, she was visibly moved that she had won an award for her career (at 22!) and I found myself rooting for her. She opened up a little bit, saying that she was more like Hermione than we might have known, admitting “I was completely the eager beaver in school. I was the girl in the front of the class who was the first person to put her hand up, and it’s often not cool… I’ve often gotten teased mercilessly, but I’ve found that ultimately if you truly pour your heart into what you believe in, even if it makes you vulnerable, amazing things can and will happen. I’m so honored to be receiving this and I promise to keep making the best work I can for all of you.” Here’s Emma’s speech. Oh and this clip doesn’t have Jonah Hill’s awesome intro for Emma, in which he claimed that they were going to costar in 50 Shades together and that his safeword was “tangerine.” Hilarious.

| Emma Watson Knows How to Work a Pole | Added 11 years ago | Source: The Blemish |

Emma Watson admits she’s not a novice when it comes to working a pole. Watson has a pole dancing scene in her upcoming film,The Bling Ring, and she says, “I did learn to pole dance for the film, and I have a small pole dancing scene. But it?s not a performance for anyone else, it?s just me messing around with my friends.I took lessons.”
Before you start thinking she’s just some party girl, she name drops Virginia Woolf. “I had this surreal experience where I was studying the modernists, writing about Virginia Woolf on Friday night, then driving to London for pole dancing classes on Saturday morning.”
Emma now has new found respect for pole dancers. “I was incredibly ungraceful at first. The upper-body strength and the core strength you need to do it gracefully is crazy.I take my hat off to the women who can do it. You have to be incredibly strong.”
Whenever a girl says you have to be incredibly strong to do something like pole dancing or yoga, in the back of my mind I’m always thinking, “Shut up, no you don’t.” Lifting a car above your head. That’s something that requires incredible strength. Sliding up and down a pole? Two weeks and you’ve nailed it.
