Shortly after Will Ferrell left Saturday Night Live, and a several months after the Iraq War started, I read an interview with Ferrell that has always stuck with me. Ferrell was taking about how much he missed SNL and being able to spoof the president on a weekly basis. He then recalled Bush?s famous ?Mission Accomplished? speech, where Bush was wearing that flight suit, the incident only a few months old at the time. Ferrell said (and I?m paraphrasing), ?I thought, that?s it! From here on out, every time anyone does an impression of Bush, he should wear the flight suit and stand under a ?Mission Accomplished? banner. Bush going out to eat, in the flight suit. Bush standing in the Oval Office, in the flight suit.?
To say that Ferrell has genius-level comedy instincts is an understatement. Now it seems that Ferrell is going to play perhaps his greatest character one last time. Will Ferrell will be playing George W. Bush in “You’re Welcome America: A Final Night With George W. Bush”, a Broadway show that plays February through March. The stage show will also air on HBO.
Will Ferrell, the man who invented “strategery” and other Bushisms, is taking his spoofs of the 43rd president to Broadway and HBO.
The “Saturday Night Live” veteran will star in “You’re Welcome America: A Final Night With George W. Bush” at New York’s Cort Theater, with previews in line for Inauguration Day.
The show will take a chronological look at Bush’s life — from his college days and time as the governor of Texas to the 2000 race for president and his two terms in office. Ferrell, who poked fun at the president with his successful impersonations on “SNL,” told CNN he likes that Bush “never thinks he’s wrong.”
“He’s arrogant with a school-boy attitude, and combine that with the fact that he is commander in chief — and, unfortunately, it’s very funny.”
He says viewers should “expect the unexpected” from the show — and some goofy nicknames, something Bush is known to dole out to members of his administration. The show will premiere on February 5 and run through March 15. HBO has also picked up the show, to air live on an undetermined date.

Will Ferrell?s George W. Bush was and is a thing of beauty - he?s the only comedian to really give the ?character? of Bush the needed pathos, snark, silliness and oblivion. I was happily surprised when Ferrell returned on one of the Thursday night SNL mini-episodes, before the presidential election, to play Bush to Tina Fey?s Sarah Palin. I tend to think that Ferrell should have done this show a few months ago, but perhaps the timing is apt. By February, President Obama will be in office, but Bush’s legacy will still be affecting the world for decades to come.

In possibly a manufactured feud to promote 30 Rock, Star magazine reports on the rising tension between Alec Baldwin and Tina Fey which exploded recently at a photo shoot. Word is that Tina is figuring out she’s not disposable and has been second guessing Alec.
During a recent photo shoot on the set, the notoriously difficult actor sniped to the photographer, “Get ready to do a lot of airbrushing.” Tina, who has a childhood scar on her left cheek, fired back, “Something wrong with my face?” Alec upped the ante by saying it’s her entire body that’s the problem. “Tina shot back that this was coming from a guy with a double chin who thinks Sarah Palin is hot,” says a set source. “Alec was steamed about it the rest of the day and had words with Tina about it later.”
Sounds fake, but it could have also been good natured jesting. I insult my friends all the time. Call them fat, worthless, should have been aborted, not worth the paper their birth certificate was printed on, etc. They always chuckle and that’s about when they tell me they joined the Peace Corps for a year but then two months later I see them at a random bar… Weird. Must have got out early.

The accolades keep coming for writer/actress Tina Fey. She was named “Entertainer of the Year” by the Associated Press, beating out Robert Downey Jr. and Heath Ledger for the award. The “30 Rock” creator, writer and star had a busy year, including her first leading role in a movie, the female buddy comedy “Baby Mama” co-starring her partner in SNL hilarity Amy Poehler. She also won two Emmy awards and helped to make SNL politically relevant again with her repeat guest performances as VP candidate Sarah Palin. My favorite line from those appearances was this one: “I believe that marriage meant to be a sacred institution between two unwilling teenagers….”

Fey was voted The Associated Press’ Entertainer of the Year, an annual honor chosen by newspaper editors and broadcast producers across the country. Fey was selected by AP members as the performer who had the greatest impact on culture and entertainment in 2008.
The 38-year-old comedian bested runner-up Robert Downey Jr., whose comeback was capped with the blockbuster smash “Iron Man,” and the third-place vote-getter, Heath Ledger, who posthumously wowed audiences as the Joker in “The Dark Knight.”
But it was Fey who most impressed voters largely with her indelible impression of Gov. Sarah Palin on “Saturday Night Live.” Her cameos on her old show (where she had been a head writer until 2006) helped drive the show to record ratings and eventually drew an appearance from Palin herself.
“Tina Fey is such an obvious choice,” said Sharon Eberson, entertainment editor of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. “She gave us funny when we really needed it and, in a year when women in politics were making huge strides, Fey stood out in the world of entertainment.”
Fey’s 2008 was a full year, though.
She also starred for the first time on the big screen in “Baby Mama” (which grossed $60 million at the box office) and won three Emmys for her critically lauded NBC sitcom “30 Rock,” which she created, stars in and writes. In the comedy series category, she won for best lead actress and best writing, and shared in the award for best comedy series.
“She simultaneously entertained us with her wit and put a mirror up to the nation during the election and made us think about what was going on,” said Scott Shive, assistant features editor at the Lexington Herald-Leader. “She is the epitome of the smart kid coming out on top for once.”

Congrats to Tina on an amazing year. But honestly, I’ve loved her ever since she went on the Howard Stern Show years ago and said that SNL guest host Paris Hilton was a piece of shit with Fraggle hair.

The book is called The Black Book of Hollywood Pregnancy Secrets, and it?s allegedly a tell-all. But from the excerpted stories, it just seems like a bunch of moms talking about their kids. Which is nice. So why all the drama? Oh, right, book sales. Authors Kym Douglas and Cindy Pearlman interviewed many Hollywood moms, including Angelina Jolie, Kate Hudson, Helena Bonham Carter, Katie Holmes and Tina Fey.

[Hudson] says, “I do find it tough to date,” but swiftly adds, “I’d rather be at home with my son cooking dinner than going out with a guy. My son is my man.”
Jolie adds of raising her international brood of six kids with partner Brad Pitt, “We were in India (for Halloween) and Brad and the kids and I had an off celebration in the hotel we were staying at. We had candy sent up, which we said was from the saints.”
Meanwhile, American actress/comedienne Tina Fey takes a down-to-earth approach to parenting: “I don’t care how many (magazine) covers you’re on. When you’re chasing a three-year-old around with a pull-up (diaper) hoping she won’t poop on the floor, you’re just like every other mom on the planet.”

I?m not really sure what Angie means by an ?off celebration? - maybe she was misquoted? Maybe it?s like ?off? the beaten path? Is there a Saint Off? Who knows. Tina Fey?s story is funny though. It reminds me of a story about my now dead dog, when he was alive and incontinent. Not to compare pets with children… *shock*… but I really wish I could have put a diaper on that dog. Anyhoo, doesn?t it seem like Kate Hudson?s kind of phoning it in? I mean, we see her out with *every* boyfriend, obviously she doesn?t love being alone with her son that much. There are other excerpts from the book, including some much juicier revelations from Helena Bonham Carter.
Helena Bonham Carter admits pregnancy made her defensive about her vices. The 42-year-old actress - who has two children with partner Tim Burton, son Billy, five and 13-month-old daughter Nell - found it impossible to give up coffee while pregnant, and developed a sharp retort for when she was criticized for succumbing to her caffeine cravings.
…If a man condemned her for drinking coffee, Helena would swiftly reply: “You try nine months of gestation and self-abnegation before you start censoring my diet. Your mother was probably on vodka, and do you have three heads?”
Helena limited her intake of the hot drink, but admits it was tough to give it up entirely. She said: “I didn’t drink caffeine as much as I would normally and try to restrict myself to one cup of coffee a day. One of my favourite dishes is carpaccio and I love sushi but I avoided them. Obviously anything with raw eggs was forbidden, too.”
The actress has previously revealed she was so desperate for a second child she took fertility drugs to boost her egg production, and also tried acupuncture and Chinese massage.
She said: “If I hadn’t got pregnant I think we probably would have tried IVF (in vitro fertilisation), yes. Obviously, you don’t know what you’d do unless you were actually in that situation. I think we might have gone for a round of IVF, but that would have been that.”

And after Helena told off Tim Burton with that ?three heads? line, Burton jotted down some notes, met with some producers and started pre-production on The Three-Headed Vodka Boy, starring Johnny Depp. *rimshot* Seriously, when I think about what pregnant women used to get away with, it really makes me wonder about my mother?s generation. Pregnant women used to smoke throughout the whole nine months! They used to drink like fishes! They used to play with toxic chemicals! Well, maybe not that one, but I?m sure a couple of pregnant women tried.
