You know what’s weird? I saw Hilary Swank’s hair at the Met Gala here and I assumed she had very short hair and was wearing a full head of extensions. Then I looked at photos of her from the past couple of years, and realized she’s had long hair for quite a while. That’s how much I normally pay attention to her, sorry to say. Her hair is confusing me here, because her curls look like a different, lighter shade than the crown of her hair. She’s surely got some extensions in there, but I’m assuming that most of this hair is hers. It just looks fake to me and like a wig. Plus she could do with a little more makeup. She’s very pretty, and it looks like she’s wearing casual daytime makeup, not like she’s styled for a big event.
Hilary was in a scarlet red Michael Kors sleeveless floor-length gown that just looked incredible on her. I love the full yet formfitting skirt and the belt-like fit of the empire waist. It’s just a gorgeous dress overall and it flatters her so much. Some may call it boring, but I think it’s classic and elegant. It’s one of my favorite looks of the night.
Hilary posed with the designer, and you could tell they were both thrilled with her look. I love her vintage Fred Leighton drop earrings. They’re just perfect for this dress.

Stepping out for a fun-filled evening, Hilary Swank was spotted at the Broadway opening of ?On a Clear Day You Can See Forever? last night (December 11).
Joined by fellow actress Mariska Hargitay, the ?Boys Don?t Cry? babe was all smiles in an orange top and white skirt as she posed outside the St. James Theatre in New York City.
Over the weekend, Hilary?s new flick ?New Year?s Eve? opened in theaters nationwide, scoring $13.7 million in total ticket sales.
In a recent interview, Ms. Swank explained that films like ?New Year?s Eve? are intimidating to her, and she has to psych herself up for the challenge.
?I go after the things the way that I do because I am scared. I go gung-ho and dive in because it?s my way to be prepared, physically and mentally. My fear control mechanism is to be overly prepared.?

She's a pro when it comes to the red carpet, and on Monday night (December 5) Hilary Swank was in fine form as she arrived for the world premiere of "New Year's Eve" in Hollywood California.
Known for her effortless beauty, the Oscar winning actress looked breathtaking as she posed for a round of photos outside Grauman?s Chinese Theatre.
The appearance comes just as Miss Swank made an appearance on the "Tonight Show with Jay Leno" - during which she addressed her highly-criticized decision to accept a six-figure sum to appear at the 35th birthday celebrations of Chechnya's autocratic dictator, Ramzan Kadyrov.
"Shame on me!" Hilary told, adding, "The bottom line is that I should know where I'm going, and do better research. I can guarantee that I won't go anywhere ever again without doing full research."

Hilary Swank is still floundering in the midst of the international scandal that resulted when, back in October, she received $1.5 million to attend the birthday party of Chechen dictator Ramzan Kadryov, which included her warm wishes towards “Mr. President” and for which she later expressed deep regrets. In the aftermath, Swank allegedly reacted by firing her manager and many of her agents, and then she was summarily dropped by her PR firm. Yes, Swank has expressed her regrets, but after such an incredible mess, sometimes the best thing for one to do is just drop the matter and hope that people eventually forget that it ever happened.
Part of me wonders why Swank just won’t stop discussing this scandal, but she’s now promoting New Year’s Eve, which arrives in theaters on December 9 and I guess is as good a reason as any for her to continue discussing the faux pas heard around the world. I’ve come to this grand conclusion merely because Hilary apparently doesn’t have much else to discuss during her late-night talk show interview with Jay Leno, as evidenced her great enthusiasm upon discussing her parrot and the eggs that she ordered through the mail. You see, one of these eggs hatched into a chick, which turned into a rooster. Such riveting material, right? After she discusses the Chechen debacle at length, Swank actually imitates the rooster learning to crow, but here’s what she said about the relevant topic:
“I was invited by a Turkish real estate company to go and be a proponent of peace; help celebrate the rebuilding of a war-torn city. It was Grozny city, which is in Chechnya . . . I get offered appearances all the time . . . These people were trying to rebuild their lives too. Just seven years ago it was very war-torn and very dangerous. And I thought, ‘Absolutely, yes. That’s an incredible thing; I love to travel, I love to meet people. This is an exciting opportunity.’
“And then, once there, on the side of the stage, someone said, ‘It’s the president’s birthday; can you wish him a happy birthday?’ . . . I had never heard of him before. In fact, when they said his name, I couldn’t even say it. So I said, ‘I’ll just say Mr. President,’ is what I’m thinking in my head. So, I went out and said, ‘Happy birthday, Mr. President,’ after I said my whole speech about it’s great to be a proponent of peace and you guys are doing incredible things rebuilding this city. And then when I got back, only then was I made aware of who he was . . . Kadryov. Now I can say his name because of I’ve done my research. He’s a bad, bad guy . . . Human rights organizations had reached out to warn me before I went but I did not get those warnings, they weren’t shared with me, and so that went out into the press too, and I had never known, and I thank the Human rights organizations for trying to reach out, and for reaching out, even though I didn’t get it. And the silver lining is that I’m actually working with the Human Rights Watch now.
“[On a question about the backlash] It was all over the world, and shame on me. The bottom line is that I should know where I’m going and I should do better research, and I can definitely guarantee that I won’t go anywhere ever again without doing full research. I donated all the money, and like I said, there’s always a silver lining to things. I’ve learned a lot about the incredible things people are now doing . . . Again, I should know where I’m going . . . I actually didn’t know Chechnya was separate from Russia. Now I know all of that, but I had no idea.”
Oddly enough, Swank still appears to be slightly cloudy on the details, for Chechnya is its own republic even though it technically remains part of the Russian Federation. In addition, it’s interesting that Swank frames her rationale for attending on loving to travel and meet people for a good cause instead of the cool $1.5 million, but at least Swank has now articulated that she’s donated the money to a mysterious cause. Ideally, that cause would be the Human Rights Watch, but she probably would’ve mentioned it if that was the case. Swank still obviously places some blame upon her former manager, but she’s also grovelled quite well by accepting that she should’ve done her research. Mostly, it sounds like she learned her lesson here, and hopefully, that’ll be the end of the discussion. That is, until she decides to imitate a rooster again.

Last night was the premiere of J. Edgar at the AFI Film Fest. All of the stars came out for the film except for Dame Judi Dench, who was in London doing press for the new James Bond film. Several of Clint Eastwood?s former stars and friends came out to celebrate his new film too - including Hilary Swank. This is Hilary?s first public outing since she got publicly slammed for attending the birthday party of a Chechen dictator, and accepting $1.5 million for the pleasure. Days after the scandal went international, Hilary canceled a charity appearance, claiming she was sick, but I guess she feels well enough to hang out with Clint Eastwood, right? Also, Bedhead reported earlier this week that Hilary fired her manager over the Chechnya incident, and now Entertainment Weekly reports that Hilary?s PR firm fired HER.
Hilary Swank?s bad month just got even worse. In the wake of the storm of bad press surrounding her paid appearance at a birthday event for Chechen president, and alleged human rights violator, Ramzan Kadyrov, the two-time Oscar winner has been dumped by her PR team at 42West, a source familiar with the situation confirms exclusively to EW.
The publicity firm parted ways with Swank over a disagreement on how best to deal with the fallout from the Oct. 5 event, which was also attended by Jean-Claude Van Damme, Seal, and English violinist Vanessa-Mae.
Earlier this week, it was widely reported that Swank fired her manager of eight years, Jason Weinberg, and two of his associates at CAA, though not her lawyer, Jeff Bernstein, who reportedly played a significant role in the Chechnya visit. Three weeks ago, Swank apologized for attending and promised to donate her fee to charity, but appeared to stop short of taking personal responsibility. ?If I had a full understanding of what this event was apparently intended to be,? she said, ?I would never have gone.?
Calls to 42West have not been returned, and Swank?s lawyer has not responded to a request for comment.

Sucks for Hilary. I guess she?s doing her own PR now, thus this red carpet appearance for Clint Eastwood. She?s probably hoping that Clint will act as a human shield to protect her from the fallout. I can?t believe she?s using an old dude like that.
I?m including some more photos from the AFI premiere. Leo looks great, IMO. Clint looks old as dirt. Naomi Watts looks nice, but Liev looks rough. And Armie Hammer is so cartoon-handsome, it?s creepy. Oh, and my lover Ed Westwick was there! He?s in the movie too. He?s so smarmy and gorge.

It’s been an interesting few weeks of fallout since Hilary Swank attended a birthday for Chechen leader Ramzan Kadyrov and expressed very warm wishes (on video) for the Moscow-backed warlord. Subsequently, Hilary has stated that she “deeply regrets” her actions and words, which means that she either had no bloody idea who the guy was or simply “deeply regrets” that anyone paid attention at all.
Then, it was revealed that Hilary pocketed a cool $1.5 million for the event even though the Human Rights Foundation had sent a warning, urging her not to attend, to Hilary through her manager. While Hilary claims to never have received the message, there’s been an interesting development via The Independent. It turns out that Hilary’s manager was completely in the dark about the fact that she’d been booked for the party. Instead, her lawyer was the one who arranged her attendance. Weird, right? However, Hilary is still pissed off at her manager, and she has summarily fired his ass for (I guess) making her look bad in the eyes of the public:

Three weeks after she upset human rights organisations by accepting a six-figure fee to attend the 35th birthday party of Chechnya’s autocratic president, Ramzan Kadyrov, the Oscar-winning actress has begun handing out redundancy slips to the staff she blames for her damaged image.
The Independent on Sunday understands that Jason Weinberg, Swank’s friend and manager of eight years, was unceremoniously fired last week. Amie Yavor and Josh Lieberman, two of Swank’s representatives at Hollywood’s most powerful talent agency, CAA, and the people who made the Chechen booking, also face being moved off her team.
Swank, a prominent Hollywood liberal, is also upset that a fourth employee, Lauren Hale, who works for CAA and travelled to Grozny, failed to prevent the 5 October PR debacle, which saw her join Jean-Claude Van Damme, violinist Vanessa Mae and the singer Seal in publicly singing Kadyrov’s praises.
YouTube footage of the celebration showed her offering warm applause for the Moscow-backed warlord, who is widely accused of torturing dissidents, killing political opponents, and encouraging citizens to abuse women who dress immodestly.
At one point, Swank strode to the microphone and announced how much she had enjoyed visiting the totalitarian state. “I could feel the spirit of the people, and I could see that everyone was so happy,” she said. “Happy birthday, Mr President!”
The appearance sparked a storm of criticism, and cast an awkward light on the world of “personal appearances” in which Hollywood stars quietly earn hundreds of thousands of dollars to appear at private parties and corporate events.
Swank later agreed to donate her fee to “various charitable organisations.” She also issued a grovelling apology, saying: “I deeply regret attending.” But every self-respecting Hollywood star blames career setbacks on their staff. Since Mr Kadyrov’s dodgy profile would be evident to anyone who Googled “Chechnya” and “human rights,” Swank has begun sacking employees she believes failed to vet the booking.
“Hilary values her liberal credentials and is close to Michelle Obama. She’s really upset by what happened,” says a source close to the affair. “It’s partly her fault. But what can she do? She can hardly fire herself.”
Mr Weinberg’s role in the saga was particularly unfortunate. Just before the event, the talent manager — whose clients include Madonna, Demi Moore and Lindsay Lohan — wrote an email to the New York-based Human Rights Foundation saying Swank had “no current plans to attend.” That was clearly untrue. But a source close to the controversy denied a deliberate effort to mislead. “Jason was never properly told about the Grozny event,” the source said. “The booking was handled by Hilary’s lawyer, Jeff Bernstein, and her team at CAA. Jeff drafted the misleading statement. Jason just sent it. He’s the fall guy in all this.”
Swank, 37, who commands up to $8m a film, has decided not to terminate her relationship with CAA: her partner of five years, John Campisi, works for the company.

How unfortunate. Weinberg had worked with Swank for eight years, and she even thanked him (and her lawyers) during her Best Actress Oscar speech for Million Dollar Baby. Nikki Finke at Deadline states, “It sure seems that a lot of people exercised terrible judgment, first and foremost among them Swank herself.” Yet for whatever reason, Hilary is giving Weinberg the ax in the midst of a mess for which he appears to have played no role. Perhaps his firing has been a long time coming, for Hilary must certainly be frustrated to have followed up two Oscar wins with several flops — The Black Dahlia, The Reaping, Birds of America, Conviction, and Amelia — and maybe Hilary decided that the main reason she took this party gig is because she can no longer command a huge salary. Whatever the case, it’s bad timing to fire Weinberg while this scandal is still so fresh. It only makes Hilary look like she’s pointing fingers at someone who doesn’t deserve the blame.

A few weeks ago, Hilary Swank was flown into Grozny to attend the 35th birthday party of Chechen despot Ramzan Kadyrov. It was a big event in which Kadyrov sat in a box seat, surrounded by thousands of well-wishers, and various celebrities like Swank and Jean Claude Van Damme went on stage to wish him a happy birthday. Kadyrov has been on every human-rights watch list for years - he is a known homicidal, genocidal douche and puppet of the Russian government, and Swank (and other celebrities) gave him legitimacy by attending his party like he was a legit world leader. Anyway, Hilary later apologized and claimed that she had no idea about any of this, that she didn?t realize she had been invited to this dude?s birthday party. Cue video of her standing on stage, wishing Kadyrov a ?happy birthday?.
The Human Rights Foundation claims that Swank was forewarned - by them. They sent a warning to Swank more than a week before the event. The HRF?s spokesperson Sarah Wasserman told The Wrap, ?After five days of wall-to-wall criticism, [Swank's apology] is weak, especially since the Human Rights Foundation sent a warning directly to Swank through her manager on Sept. 26. Her claim of ignorance is laughable. Worse, the video of her birthday wishes shows her boasting about her knowledge of Chechnya and how she ‘reads’ and ‘does her research.’ The more important question now is, what is Swank going to do with the blood money paid from Kadyrov’s coffers? She sidesteps the issue completely.”
But Swank?s spokesperson did issue a statement days later, telling The Wrap that Swank ?is donating her personal appearance fees from this event to various charitable organizations.? But until now, the amount Hilary Swank got was still unknown. Radar reports that Swank got the biggest payout of all of the celebrity guests - $1.5 million! However, Swank still claims that she only thought she had been invited to the event to attend ?the opening of a residential and commercial complex in Grozny City on October 5.? Her rep says she went to the opening ?because the construction project was described to her as a symbol of hope for the people of Chechnya, a region that had been devastated by war. Specifically, she was advised that the project was instrumental in the creation of jobs and other opportunities for the people of Chechnya.? So? Hilary thought she was getting paid $1.5 million to go to the opening of a residential complex? And then she just accidentally put on a ball gown and went to the birthday party? I still don?t understand this argument.
This Hilary Swank-debacle has changed one thing, though - two groups are now going to be offering ?free, confidential services? to celebrities, advising them on what events to avoid in the cause of human rights. Celebrities can go to the Global Philanthropy Group or the Human Rights Watch if they think a gig is iffy and they want to know more about it. Or, you know, they could just do five minutes of research??

At the beginning of the week, I saw that some major news outlets were reporting that Hilary Swank and Jean Claude Can Damme had done a bad, bad thing. They were invited to a public (televised) birthday party for a Chechen leader named Ramzan Kadyrov in Grozny. As it turns out, Kadyrov is a something of an infamous genocidal bastard, and human rights groups were really pissed off that celebrities were flown in to give the dude legitimacy. I didn?t write about it earlier because? it?s Hilary Swank. I didn?t think people would care what she did, and in her (sort of) defense, I think it?s pretty likely she was just offered a million-dollar check and a private plane to come to the event, and she had no idea who this guy was, or why she should have refused. Anyway, she?s apologizing:
Hollywood celebrity Hilary Swank said she “deeply regrets” visiting a concert held on the birthday of the Kremlin-backed Chechen leader, who is accused of torture, abductions and killings by human rights groups.
The two-time Oscar winner said that she was unaware of the disappearances, house torchings and extra-judicial killings reportedly orchestrated by Ramzan Kadyrov in the southern Russian republic.
“I deeply regret attending this event,” Swank said in a written message to The Associated Press. “If I had a full understanding of what this event was apparently intended to be, I would never have gone.”
Swank issued the message after the Human Rights Watch criticized her ? along with Belgian actor Jean Claude Van Damme and British violinist Vanessa Mae ? for attending a show that, it says, “trivializes the suffering of countless victims of human rights abuses.”
On Kadyrov’s 35th birthday on Oct. 5, his government organized a lavish concert in Chechnya’s provincial capital, Grozny, that has been restored after being flattened during two wars between Chechen separatists and Moscow since 1994.
The celebrities ? as well as dozens of Russian politicians and pop stars ? showed up to congratulate Kadyrov from a stage arranged between a gigantic mosque and a newly built business center.
During the birthday show, Swank said that she had been taken by the Chechen government’s “passion to make peace and to make something beautiful.” She claimed in her apology that her invitation to the concert made no mention of Kadyrov’s birthday.
Under Kadyrov’s leadership, Chechnya has become relatively quiet, and the insurgent violence has largely migrated to neighboring republics of the volatile Caucasus region. Kadyrov is a former separatist rebel who has boasted of killing his first Russian soldier at age 15. He went over to the federal side at the start of the second Chechen war in 1999. A string of Kadyrov’s critics and political rivals have been brutally murdered in recent years in Russia, Austria and Dubai.
Kadyrov has consistently denied involvement in any of the killings, saying the accusations are fabricated to blacken his name.

?If I had a full understanding of what this event was apparently intended to be, I would never have gone? = They gave me a lot of money to show up and I didn?t want to ask questions, and I figured no one would notice. I mean? I buy her apology, I buy that she regrets it, and she probably hates whoever talked her into it. BUT! I would like to know how much she was paid to show up at the event, and if she also ?deeply regrets? taking the money, or if she plans to return the money.

From this angle and with most of her face covered up, Hilary Swank looks damn near perfect. The rest of the time she looks like something you’d see galloping through a pasture to eat sugar cubes out of your hand. But obviously, she can’t go around in sunglasses and a hat all the time. She wouldn’t be able to see at night. That’s why I suggested a nice niqab to go with that bikini. See, Muslims are good for more than just target practice and the falafel industry! Sometimes you can be so close-minded.

Arriving ahead of her outbound flight, Hilary Swank was spotted at the Tegel Airport in Berlin, Germany on Thursday (July 7).
The ?Choose You? beauty looked cute in khakis, a navy cardigan and fedora as she happily made her way through the security line.
While in Berlin, Swank took in the latest trends during the Hugo Boss fashion show as part of the Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Berlin Spring/Summer 2011.
In other news, Hilary also recently visited Toronto, Canada where she presented an award alongside Anil Kapoor at the 2011 International Indian Film Academy Awards.
