Making for quite the sudden and saddening news, reports tell that Ashlee Simpson has filed for divorce from Pete Wentz.
Having been married back in May of 2008, the "Pieces of Me" singer submitted legal papers in Los Angeles Superior Court to end her marriage, according to TMZ.
Miss Simpson, whose big sister Jessica has also been divorced, cited the catchall "irreconcilable differences" as the reasoning behind the breakup.
With no prenup having been signed, Ashlee is said to be seeking "joint legal custody and primary physical custody" of her and Pete's 2-year-old Bronx while hiring Laura Wasser as her lawyer.

I know I?m about to out myself as a total dumbass, but this one hurts. Ashlee Simpson has just filed for divorce from Pete Wentz - damn it! I liked them together, I really did. They made sense together. They were coming up on their third wedding anniversary in May, and their son Bronx is 2 years old. Here?s more from TMZ:
TMZ has learned … Ashlee Simpson just filed for divorce from hubby Pete Wentz.
In documents filed in L.A. County Superior Court, Simpson cites “irreconcilable differences” as the reason for the divorce.
She’s asking for joint legal custody and primary physical custody of two-year-old Bronx.
Simpson, who is repped by disso queen Laura Wasser, is also asking for spousal and child support. Wentz is repped by Stacy Phillips.
Sources tell TMZ there is no prenup.
The couple married in May, 2008.

Through the years, there have been rumors of Pete?s infidelities, and there have also been rumors about Ashlee?s multiple issues, like her alleged drinking problem and her alleged eating disorder. And yet? I honestly thought they would last. Well, I thought they would last longer than this. Sad!
Also - no prenup again, Papa Joe? Dumbass.
UPDATE: Here’s the couple’s statement via People Magazine (through Ashlee’s rep): “After careful consideration, we have made the difficult decision to file for divorce. We remain friends and deeply committed and loving parents to our son Bronx, whose happiness and well-being remains our number one priority. We ask that everyone honor our privacy as we navigate this next phase of our lives.”
UPDATE: And it’s already begun. TMZ has a story about why Ashlee left Pete. A source says, “It’s really all about Pete’s erratic behavior… She really wanted out.”

Giving her look a touch-up, Ashlee Simpson was spotted at the Andy Lecompte Salon in West Hollywood yesterday (January 27).
Unfortunately, when she returned to her car, the ?La La? songstress found a parking ticket waiting for her.
Ashlee looked cute and casual in a simple yellow striped top with skinny jeans and a Mickey Mouse handbag.
In career news, Ms. Simpson has been working on a new album, said to have more of a ?folky? feel to it.

Fitting in some last minute Christmas shopping, Ashlee Simpson was spotted out in Hollywood, CA on Thursday (December 23).
The ?Pieces of Me? singer looked to be in good spirits as she and a gal pal hit up a few stops and ended up with a plethora of goodies.
Earlier int the week, Simpson and son, Bronx, along with mom, Tina, headed out for more shopping at a vintage clothes store in Hollywood.
According to Ashlee, her son has really taken a liking to decorating for the holiday season. She told press, ?Decorating is exciting and this year he [Bronx] has his own tree in his room so he really decorates. He puts the ornaments on, so it's fun. It's all about having a good time and making the holidays feel like home.?

Tis the season for spending, and Ashlee Simpson was spotted boosting the SoCal economy on a shopping excursion yesterday (December 21).
The ?Pieces of Me? songstress was joined by her son Bronx and mom Tina Simpson as she hit up a vintage clothing store in West Hollywood.
Ashlee told press that she and her husband Pete Wentz have been really digging the whole holiday decoration tradition this year with Bronx.

Looking for a mid-afternoon snack, Pete Wentz and Ashlee Simpson were spotted getting cookies at Barnes & Noble yesterday (December 5).
The ?Sugar, We?re Going Down? rocker and the ?Pieces of Me? pop singer took their adorable son Bronx to the bookstore for some sugary goodness.
And it seems their collective appetite was stronger than their desire to stay dry- Ashlee and Pete got caught in some rain as they strolled up to the store.
Ashlee and Pete look to be sharing the same fashion sense as of late as well- they both wore predominantly black getups, though Simpson added some contrast with a white top.

Making for quite the adorable trio, Ashlee Simpson, Pete Wentz and their son Bronx were spotted making a stop at a CVS store in New York City on Tuesday (November 23).
Gearing up for the Thanksgiving holiday, the ?Pieces of Me? mommy and her ?Fall Out Boy? hubby looked to be in good spirits as they quickly made their way out of the store for a few needs as Ashlee toted their little one in her arms.
Later in the day, Miss Simpson took to her Twitter wall to send her sister some love, as she wrote, ?@JessicaSimpson listening to your new xmas record.. decorating the house for turkey day! I love you :)?
The entire Simpson clan will be spending Thanksgiving in the Big Apple this year and Jessica will be performing at the annual Macy?s Thanksgiving Day parade tomorrow (November 25).

The ?Pieces of Me? singer looked lovely in a striped sweater, black leggings, and black heels as she waved to the paparazzi.
As for her sister Jessica?s recent engagement to Eric Johnson, Ashlee told press, ?Everything is so exciting!?
Simpson also noted that her son Bronx is nearing his second birthday and he?s growing into quite the toddler. ?He?s getting so big!? she exclaimed.
