Enjoying a glamorous evening out in the Big Apple, the stars were out for the American Ballet Theater’s Opening Night Gala at the Lincoln Center on Wednesday night (October 7).
Joining in on the red carpet affair was the lovely Natalie Portman, who quickly joined up alongside fellow actress Mila Kunis before making her way inside for the night’s festivities.
Also on hand to check out the stage show was Emmy Rossum, who looked to be in a cheerful mood despite her recent divorce from ex-hubby Justin Siegel.
As for the Opening Night Gala, the schedule included a performance debut from David Hallberg in a new work by Alexei Ratmansky, as well as a new piece from Aszure Barton, set to Maurice Ravel’s Violin Sonata in G.

She has always been a big fan of theatre, and last night (October 6) Natalie Portman was spotted arriving at the opening of “Hamlet” on Broadway.
The “V for Vendetta” actress looked lovely as she made her way inside the Broadhurst Theatre in New York City, sporting a black jacket with black jeans and black heels.
And it looks like Miss Portman has been keeping herself plenty busy with work these days, as she has several projects in the pipeline.
Natalie will be starring in “Brothers” with Jake Gyllenhaal and Tobey Maguire, as well as “Hesher” with Rainn Wilson and Joseph Gordon-Levitt.

Natalie Portman arrived in Toronto on Wednesday to support her lead role in the film Love and Other Impossible Pursuits. It?s a dramedy about ?a woman?s difficult relationship with her stepson?. I think it must be a really, really low-budget film, and it might not even have a distributor yet. In any case, Natalie walked the red carpet in this fuchsia-pinkish dress for the screening of the film. While I always think Natalie is one of the most beautiful women on any given red carpet, this dress? is not one of her best. I?d like to see the dress without that papery-looking flower on her boobs. But isn?t it remarkable that even in a less-than-average dress, she?s still stunning?
During the press conference for the film, Natalie was asked, as a duel Israeli citizen, how she felt about the Toronto International Film Festival?s inclusion of Tel Aviv in the ?City to City? program. Background: Before TIFF was even underway, the host committee announced a 10-film spotlight on Tel Aviv, using predominantly Israeli artists. Every year TIFF chooses one city, but with the selection of Tel Aviv as the city, many high-profile artists protested, calling it a way to spotlight ?”the Israeli propaganda machine”. Several artists pulled out of TIFF, complaining of Israel?s politics and the lack of corresponding Palestinian spotlight, and suggesting that including this spotlight would be, in effect, the artistic community?s endorsement of those Israeli policies.
When asked about the controversy, Natalie showed off her intelligence and class, I think:
In a roundtable interview yesterday morning for her new film Love and Other Impossible Pursuits, Natalie Portman explained why she signed a letter in support of Tel Aviv’s inclusion in TIFF’s City to City program - a choice that sparked a protest from other filmmakers.
“I just think the protest was very poorly considered,” the Jerusalem-born actress said.
“I’m not saying Israel is beyond criticism, because there’s plenty in Israel’s politics that you can criticize. It’s just, why boycott artists? It’s ridiculous. If you want to talk about applauding places that are built on suffering, the United States was built on the genocide of 40 million native Americans. Are we going to boycott American films?”
“How about those slavery years?” Don Roos, the film’s writer-director, piped in.
“Yeah, that slavery was awesome too,” Portman said.
“Also there’s so much dissent in Israeli and Palestinian art, and that’s part of the spotlight. I wonder - because those people [who signed the protest letter], I respect their work - I wonder if they hastily signed that, because it seems not well thought through.”
[From The Canadian Globe & Mail]
I think Natalie?s best argument is ?Why punish the artists?? If you don?t like a particular country?s politics or policies, fine. But don?t try to censor or protest the artists from that country. As far as Natalie argument about America and genocide? well? I just hope the Fox News people don?t get ahold of this transcript. Some people could really twist her words.

Looking as lovely as ever, Natalie Portman was out and about in Toronto, Canada earlier today (September 16).
The “Garden State” beauty is in Canada for the Toronto International Film Festival and looked adorable (and ready for fall) as she left the Hotel Intercontinental.
If you are a Natalie Portman fan, then this news should make you happy – the actress has over 11 films in the making with release dates going into 2011.
And in other news, Ms Portman revealed what kind of music phase she is going through right now, revealing, “I’ve mostly been listening to dirty rap lately. That’s sort of my scene. Really, really obscene hip-hop. I love it so much. It makes me laugh and then it makes me want to dance.”

| Natalie Portman will have angry, druggy onscreen sex with Mila Kunis | Added 15 years ago | Source: CeleBitchy |

This is Natalie Portman on the cover of September?s Interview Magazine. The actual interview hasn?t been released yet on Interview’s site, so I have no idea what Natalie is talking about. What I do know is that this is a gorgeous cover. This is amazing. God, she?s beautiful.
I could go on and on about how I think Natalie is a very classy and talented young actress, but that would destroy the strange news I just found. Natalie has just been officially confirmed for Black Swan, which will be directed by Darren Aronofsky (The Wrestler, Requiem for a Dream, The Fountain). What?s startling about this project is that it apparently calls for Natalie to do some crazy stuff - being a hardcore ballerina, taking drugs, being victimized by men and having ?ecstasy-induced hungry aggressive angry sex? with a woman, who will be played by Mila Kunis. This is not your mother’s Natalie Portman film. But it’s not the fanboys’ fanatasy film either:
Black Swan will star drool-worthy starlets Natalie Portman and Mila Kunis and is being helmed by visionary director Darren Aronofsky. Aronofsky originally tried to set up the project in 2007 but Universal put it in turnaround. Thanks to “The Wrestler” doing so well though, Portman twirled onto the project a couple of months ago and everything’s been full steam ahead since.
Can I just tell you why none of my review matters? Can I just tell you why my review is absolutely pointless? Because in this movie, Natalie Portman and Mila Kunis have sex.
Yeah. You read that right. And not just nice sweet innocent sex either. We’re talking ecstasy-induced hungry aggressive angry sex. Yeah so…this movie is already on the must-see list of 2010. But how good is it? Does the story that surrounds the sex disappoint or excel?
Nina (Portman) is a ballerina in one of New York City’s top ballet companies. She appears to be the only sweet girl of the bunch however, as it’s established early on that these companies are packed with jackals, every seemingly sweet-natured princess scheming to backstab the girl next to her if only it gets her one rung higher on the ladder. High School’s got nothing on these bitches. Nina’s sorta friend, Beth, who has been the school’s running lead in all the productions, is nearing the end of her career, and everyone’s gunning to take her place in the next big ballet: Swan Lake.
The lead role is the part of Odette, the Swan Queen. The role is complicated by the fact that the ballerina must be able to play both sweet, the “White Swan,” and dark, the “Black Swan”. It is the ultimate challenge. Of course, Nina has the white swan down. But does she have the darkness to nail the Black Swan?
The director of the production is the handsome but sinister Yevna. He sees something in Nina but before he gives her the part, he wants to speak with her privately. It is there, in his office, that he pries into Nina’s mind, searching for her dark side, even going so far as to force a kiss on her. But it’s unclear whether Yevna is trying to seduce Nina or simply seeing how she’ll react. As the sweet polite girl she is. Or as the raging disturbed woman she will have to be. In the end, Nina is given the role. But it’s clear Yevna has doubts as to if she can pull it off.
As the days go by and Nina searches desperately to find her darkness, she begins noticing another girl around town and at the ballet company who looks exactly like her. But not just “exactly.” We’re talking identical. Yet every time Nina tries to get close, the girl turns away or hides her face. Finally, Nina meets this mysterious doppelganger after rehearsal. Her name is Lily (Kunis). And while she definitely looks like Nina, she’s by no means an identical replica. Was it Nina’s imagination perhaps?
Whereas Nina is calculated about every move she makes, Lily is the opposite - uncaring and uninterested in perfection. Everything she does seems so…effortless. The two begin a tepid friendship, one which Nina is constantly trying to pull away from. But while she is afraid of Lily, she is also drawn to her in some way. And then there’s those strange fleeting moments where Lily looks exactly like her.
As they get closer to production, Nina’s world starts to spin out of control as Lily befriends Yevna and continues to move up the ballet company ladder. The girls will go out, get drunk, and Nina will show up at rehearsal late the next day only to find that Lily is standing in for her. Is Lily scheming to steal her role as the Swan Queen? Or is Nina making this all up in her head in order to find her dark side? That is the ultimate question.
As in all Aronofsky movies, there are some controversial moments. In one scene, Nina basically gets raped by Yevna. It’s cold and off-putting, and yet it’s an important moment as it demonstrates just how high the stakes are in this seemingly innocent world. The script is steeped in darkness (surprise surprise) and makes you feel so uncomfortable at times that you can’t read it without constantly resituating yourself.
[From ScriptShadow]
Yikes. While I think Aronofsky makes interesting, challenging, thought-provoking films, this one seems especially intense. I should mention to all of Natalie?s fan boys out there that you?ll really have to work for this lesbian scene. Natalie is no Megan Fox - she?s not just going to make out with a girl because ?it?s cute? or ?boys will think it?s funny?. Natalie is doing a hardcore lesbian sex scene because it?s art. And it probably won?t be sexy in the least.

Over the weekend, Natalie Portman denied rumors of hooking-up with Sean Penn and maybe being the cause of his split from his wife Robin Wright Penn. She told Extra:
“Sean Penn is a friend and colleague. The reports that we are romantically involved are completely untrue. I normally do not respond to rumors about my private life, however, this repeatedly fabricated story has forced me to do so.”
Suuure. Not romantically involved Sean Penn. Just like I’m not romantically involved with supermodel Bar Refaeli. Gotcha. No, really. I get it. I’m not being sarcastic. God how I wish I was romantically involved with Bar Refaeli.

Natalie Portman is denying all of those romance rumors between her and Sean Penn. The rumors have been swirling for about two months. Allegedly, Sean and Natalie were making out around the weekend of the Oscars. When Sean formally filed for separation from Robin Wright Penn in April, gossip soon heated up that Natalie might be the real reason for the split.
In her denial, Natalie Portman basically says that she and Sean are friends and nothing else. This in itself is a huge deal - Natalie Portman rarely, if ever, talks about her personal or dating life, so the rumor that she?s a ?homewrecker? must have been bothering her. She?s a smart girl - smart enough to know that her good-girl image could be ruined by taking up with Sean Penn. But is she smart enough not to even get with Sean in the first place?
Natalie Portman says she isn’t cozying up to Sean Penn.
“Sean Penn is a friend and colleague,” the actress, 27, tells Usmagazine.com. “The reports that we are romantically involved are completely untrue.”
Tabloid Star magazine claimed that Penn, 48 — who recently filed for legal separation from his wife of 13 years, Robin Wright Penn — and Portman were “making out” at West Hollywood’s Sunset Tower Hotel in March.
The New York Post reported today the pair have been “cavorting.”
But Portman continues: “I normally do not respond to rumors about my private life, however, this repeatedly fabricated story has forced me to do so.”
Both Penn and Portman served on the jury of the 2008 Cannes Film Festival.
Penn — who won his second Best Actor Oscar for his role in Milk earlier this year — initially filed for divorce from Wright Penn, 43, in 2007, but his petition was later dismissed. Three days later, she filed her own paperwork. In April 2008, the couple’s divorce petition was dismissed at their request.
Portman split from indie rocker Devendra Banhart last September after four months of dating.
[From US Weekly]
Nice mention of Devendra Banhart. For a quick refresher, Devandra Banhart is a Venezuelan-American singer-songwriter and some kind of icon to the indie-rock kids. That?s Natalie?s real type - those 20-something, whippet-thin hipster guys with dark hair. Not the over-40 Oscar winners who could just as easily spend the night with some hookers and cocaine. Big difference. Which makes me believe Natalie?s denial, hook, line and sinker. Sean is simply not her type.
