Joining in on quite the big evening in the Big Apple, Mary Kate Olsen turned up for the 'Schiaparelli and Prada: Impossible Conversations' 2012 Costume Institute Gala in New York City on Monday (May 7).
The former "Full House" star meandered about the Metropolitan Museum of Art venue while clad in one of her own The Row frocks teamed with Christian Louboutin footwear and Fred Leighton jewels.
The annual fete finds actress Carey Mulligan acting as honorary co-chair valongside designer Miuccia Prada and US Vogue editor-in-chief Anna Wintour, while Azealia Banks is lined up to perform.
As for the celebratory occasion, this year's rendition of the Met gala ushers in the 'Schiaparelli and Prada: Impossible Conversations' exhibition exploring "the striking affinities between Elsa Schiaparelli and Miuccia Prada, two Italian designers from different eras."
The display is described as being "inspired by Miguel Covarrubias's "Impossible Interviews" for Vanity Fair in the 1930s while featuring "orchestrated conversations between these iconic women to suggest new readings of their most innovative work."

Looking to pick up some new housewares, Mary-Kate Olsen was spotted browsing the items at a lamp store in New York City today (May 4).
The ?Full House? hottie ended up leaving the shop carrying a heavy-looking box as she headed off to her next destination.
And it sounds like Mary-Kate and her sister Ashley were influential in Selena Gomez?s newly-released perfume line.
Gomez told press, "I've always wanted to [create my own fragrance] since Mary-Kate and Ashley had their little body sprays. I loved those and was obsessed with them."

Exaggerating her tiny frame, Ashley Olsen was spotted rushing out to a car with her hands full in New York City earlier this week (April 10).
Donning black skinny jeans, black chunky boots, a colorful cardigan and dark sunglasses, the fashion mogul peeked around two large black boxes which she struggled with as she carried them in her arms.

It’s a sad day folks. Today we’ve lost one half of our finest thespians. That’s right. Ashley Olsen has quit acting. A career that began as a baby that went “pbbbttt” on the popular Full Househas now ended as an adult in a series of god awful movies that we’ve since hoped to forget. Ashley tells Elle UK.
“We worked non-stop until we were 18. Then we decided to take a break and go to school – and that was when we decided to question whether we would carry on in entertainment. It was time to step behind the process. I wanted to work on other things.”
“It doesn’t mean I’m not interested in Hollywood, I like the way it operates and the people who are involved and the sense of possibility. But if I ever do get back in, it’s not going to be as an actress. It just felt right to move away.”
It’s now up to Mary-Kate to shoulder the burden of questionable acting decisions for the both of them while their younger sister Elizabeth reaps all the critical acclaim. From now on, you’ll only see Ashley behind the camera or helping to man the billion dollar Olsen clothing empire.

| Mary-Kate & Ashley Olsen cover Elle UK, talk about sharing a creepy twin brain | Added 12 years ago | Source: CeleBitchy |

Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen take multiple covers of the April issue of Elle UK, in a photo shoot by Alexei Hay. Why can?t these girls smile? Why are they always so? sad? Grim? Pissy? Bored? Anyway, they?re promoting their multiple fashion lines – The Row, Elizabeth and James and Olsenboye – as well as reveling in their creepy twin stuff. And don?t start yelling at me – I?ve known twins before, and I accept the idea/fact that twins will always have a special, unique bond. But whatever MK and Ashley have is different, and it definitely becomes a bit creepy. Especially when they talk about sharing one mind, one thought process. Here are some highlights from the interview? I don?t even know why I bothered breaking down the quotes per twin since they share a brain.
Ashley on their twin-brain: ‘We?re attracted to different things, but we arrive at the same place. I think we?re probably unaware of how intuitive it might seem from the outside. It?s basically one thought process shared between two people.’
Ashley says they?re kind of OCD: ‘We are perfectionists. We?ve always wanted to be closely involved with everything, totally hands on – that?s why it works. If we step away, it stops working. I know it sounds controlling, but that?s how it has to be.’
Ashley doesn?t want the spotlight: She reveals she ‘doesn’t like to be the centre of attention any more’, saying: ‘I don?t have to be a pretty face. I?ve done that, but now it?s important and liberating to be on the other side of the lens.’
Ashley on quitting acting: “We worked non-stop until we were 18. Then we decided to take a break and go to school — and that was when we decided to question whether we would carry on in entertainment? It was time to step behind the process. I wanted to work on other things. It doesn’t mean I’m not interested in Hollywood, I like the way it operates and the people who are involved and the sense of possibility. But if I ever do get back in, it’s not going to be as an actress. It just felt right to move away.?
MK doesn?t get designers-as-celebrities: ‘Of course we knew about the trend of celebrities as designers, but we?d done that already when we were much younger. I don?t understand the new idea of designers as celebrities either. To me, the Phoebe Philo (British fashion designer) kind of modesty is the way to go. We love beautiful things. That?s the only driving impulse. It?s about being creative, but having a bigger vision for that creativity. For a designer to be successful nowadays, they need to know much more than just design. [Tom Ford], his career is astonishing – the way he?s been able to do everything he has wanted to do and really not compromise at all. From fashion to film, it?s such a singular vision.’

My only real problem with the quotes is the obliviousness with which they?re both acting like they haven?t just participated in a cover shoot for a major magazine. Ashley says, ?I don?t have to be a pretty face. I?ve done that, but now it?s important and liberating to be on the other side of the lens.? MK says, ?I don?t understand the new idea of designers as celebrities either.? You?re on the cover of a magazine!!! You are celebrity designers. You use your images, your celebrity, your fame, the public?s interest in YOU to help promote your clothes. It doesn?t make them bad designers or uninteresting celebrities – it just makes them disingenuous.

| Ashley & Mary-Kate Olsen named Vogue's 'best dressed sisters' of 2011 | Added 13 years ago | Source: CeleBitchy |

Vogue?s annual ?Best Dressed of the year? list is already out, and they took special interest in 2011?s best-dressed sister acts. You?d think that with the way everyone is falling all over themselves for the Middleton sisters, that those girls would have gotten top honors. You would be mistaken. First of all, Pippa and Kate would NEVER pose for a supplemental issue of Vogue US. Well, Pippa would love to, I?m sure, and Kate might even want to as well, but she?s not going to right now. Anyway, Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen, they of the oversized boho looks and the $500 white button-down blouses took the cover.
You can see the list of ?best dressed sisters? here at Vogue. Some of the ladies definitely deserve to be on the list, although I wince every time Elle Fanning is mentioned in a major fashion context. She?s 13 years old, and she?s being put out there like she?s some major fashionista. That bugs me.
The list also includes Beyonce and Solange Knowles (ha) and the Middletons of course. Pippa and Kate are given credit for popularizing the mid-thigh skirt or dress. Mark Holgate, Vogue Fashion News Director and Editor of the special issue, told Reuters: ?It?s short enough to be impossible for an older-generation royal to wear, long enough to be decent when sitting or bending down to talk to a child.”
About the Olsens, Holgate said, “Are there any more chic, stylish, cool, and original sisters than Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen? They are incredibly stylish? They get it right a lot of the time and then sometimes they don’t get it right. That’s actually great because it shows that it’s their hands reaching into their wardrobes. They don’t have someone telling them, ‘This is cool, this is hot, this is what you should be wearing.’ It comes from within them. It’s instinctual. Look at what they’ve done with (their fashion labels) The Row and Elizabeth and James. They are legitimate fashion forces.” MEH. Beautiful pics, though.

Ready to drop a little cash for a good cause, Mary Kate Olsen turned up at Sotheby's for The New York Academy Of Art's 20th Annual Take Home A Nude Benefit on Monday night (October 17).
Held in honor of John Richardson and Jenny Saville, the former "Full House" star joined up with fellow guest, NYC socialite Fabiola Beracasa, with the ladies grabbing their pricey seats for the dinner auction doings.
The outing comes just as Miss Olsen recently offered up an interview in which she spoke about seeing beauty in others - with Kate Winslet among those she clearly admires.
Mary-Kate explained, ?There are just some really beautiful people in the world. When you're walking down the street, or you're at a restaurant, someone catches your eye because they have their own look. It goes way beyond what they're wearing-into their mannerisms, the way they smile, or just the way they hold themselves.?
She added, ?Some people are natural beauties, some have great style, but sometimes it comes from talent. Take Kate Winslet, That woman has so much intensity. She's amazing to watch and to listen to. With some people, it can even be their voice that makes them attractive.?

In career news, Mary Kate and Ashley have signed on as the new creative directors for the tennis shoe brand Superga.
Ashley explained, "We were at a meeting with Steve [Madden], and we were wearing Supergas - two years later, it kind of fell into our lap. I really don't think there's anything like this brand. It's a tennis-shoe brand with 100 years under its belt. Superga is really a luxurious brand. We are really hoping to bring it back to its roots."
