The states of New York and California both passed one-year-only laws allowing victims/survivors of sexual assault, abuse and harassment to sue their attackers in civil court regardless of he statute of limitations on criminal prosecutions. The New York law gave space for Cassie to sue Sean Combs (and he settled quickly) and for a Jane Doe to sue Jamie Foxx for a 2015 assault. Well, Paula Abdul is now one of the most high-profile women to use California?s Sexual Abuse and Cover-Up Accountability Act. Paula has accused her former American Idol producer Nigel Lythgoe with multiple sexual assaults.
Paula Abdul alleged in a lawsuit on Friday that she was twice sexually assaulted by Nigel Lythgoe, the executive producer of ?American Idol? and ?So You Think You Can Dance.?
Abdul rose to stardom in the late 80s and built a second career as a judge of reality show competitions in the early 2000s. In the suit, she alleges that during one of the early seasons of ?American Idol,? Lythgoe sexually assaulted her in an elevator. She alleges that he shoved her against a wall, groped her breasts and genitals, and shoved his tongue down her throat. According to the suit, she tried to push him away, and as soon as the hotel door opened, she ran to her room.
Years later, Abdul was a judge on ?So You Think You Can Dance.? Lythgoe invited her to his home for dinner, and she accepted, thinking it would be a professional encounter. However, according to the suit, Lythgoe forced himself on top of her while she was sitting on his couch, attempted to kiss her, and said they would make a great ?power couple.? Again, she pushed him away and fled his home, the lawsuit states.
The suit also accuses Lythgoe of verbal harassment and bullying, and alleges that Abdul was discriminated against, and was paid less than male judges on ?American Idol.? The suit further alleges that the show would be edited in a misleading way to make her appear inept.
Additionally, Abdul alleges that she witnessed Lythgoe sexually assault one of her assistants in April 2015, pressing up against the assistant and groping her without consent.
?For years, Abdul has remained silent about the sexual assaults and harassment she experienced on account of Lythgoe due to fear of speaking out against one of the most well-known producers of television competition shows who could easily break her career as a television personality and of being ostracized and blackballed by an industry that had a pattern of protecting powerful men and silencing survivors of sexual assault and harassment,? the lawsuit states. The suit alleges that Lythgoe?s behavior was common knowledge, and cites a MADtv parody in which Lythgoe was seen harassing contestants.
According to the suit, Lythgoe called Abdul once and taunted her, saying it had been ?seven years and the statute of limitations had run.? Abdul signed non-disclosure agreements as part of her employment on both reality shows, which prevented her from disclosing confidential or derogatory information. Abdul filed the suit under California?s Sexual Abuse and Cover-Up Accountability Act, which created a one-year window to file certain sexual abuse lawsuits that would otherwise be outside the statute of limitations. The deadline to file is Dec. 31.

Lythgoe denied the allegations in a statement Saturday. ?To say that I am shocked and saddened by the allegations made against me by Paula Abdul is a wild understatement. For more than two decades, Paula and I have interacted as dear ? and entirely platonic ? friends and colleagues. Yesterday, however, out of the blue, I learned of these claims in the press and I want to be clear: not only are they false, they are deeply offensive to me and to everything I stand for. While Paula?s history of erratic behavior is well known, I can?t pretend to understand exactly why she would file a lawsuit that she must know is untrue. But I can promise that I will fight this appalling smear with everything I have.?

?Paula?s history of erratic behavior? O RLY? That?s all he?s got? ?She?s crazy, she?s behaving erratically? when she has made detailed accounts of multiple sexual assaults? Team Abdul. It would not surprise me if he treated the women ?below? him much worse as Paula notes in her lawsuit, she witnessed him grope an assistant too. This feels like it could be the tip of the iceberg.

In 2009, Jill Kohl sued Paula Abdul for falling in her driveway while taping the reality show Hey Paula. Three years later, it finally paid off. Jill’s lawyer says Paula agreed to pay $900,000 in damages as part of a settlement.Meanwhile, the production company who was also sued agreed to pay $100,000.
When all is said and done, Jill made $1 million off of being an uncoordinated b*tch. Those years of being picked last for basketball and being the first one out at dodgeball finally paid off. Not that Paula would notice $900,000 missing anyway. She doesn’t even know where she is half of the time.

With the first season of the hit competition show set to come to a close this week, the stars of "The X Factor" gathered together for a press conference in Los Angeles on Monday (December 19).
Among those on-hand were co-judges Paula Abdul, Simon Cowell, Nicole Scherzinger and L.A. Reid, who posed for pictures on the arrivals carpet before heading inside to join the final three contestants for a drawing to decide the order of performances.
During the drawing, Melanie Amaro chose to go third while Chris Rene picked second and Josh Krajcik ended up as the opener of the show airing on FOX this Wednesday (December 21).
Meanwhile, the winner will be crowned the following night during the results show, with star performers slated to appear including Justin Bieber, Leona Lewis and Ne-Yo with Pitbull.

Working for former “American Idol” judge Paula Abdul is about as much fun as waxing Simon Cowell’s taint. Just ask anybody who ever worked for her — they’ll tell you. She’s completely batshit insane. A former assistant told Us Magazine:
Each assistant must carry and use a tape recorder at all times “because she doesn’t trust her own conversations,” the source says.
“She also makes them check the TiVo for any mention of her and put it on a DVD.”
The “Forever Your Girl” singer also needed constant reminders that she is a “warrior, survivor and gift,” adds the insider.
Additionally, staff members are expected to explain things using hand puppets on “bad days,” as well as claim responsibility for of all of Paula’s farts when in public.

An insider tells Us that Paula Abdul is nuts. They say Paula has a list of requests every assistant that works for her must abide by. These include:
1. Each assistant must carry and use a tape recorder at all times “because she doesn’t trust her own conversations.”
2. “She also makes them check the TiVo for any mention of her and put it on a DVD.”
3. Abdul team members should also prepare to go through her email — and respond to family and friends as the star herself.
4. The “Forever Your Girl” singer also needed constant reminders that she is a “warrior, survivor and gift.”
It must be nice to be rich and hire someone to kiss your ass 24/7. On the other hand, it must suck to be that self-obsessed and lazy that you need other people to give you affirmations. What if Paula couldn’t get an assistant? Would she crumble to the floor, lay in the fetal position and cry about how worthless she is?
I can just imagine her assistant telling her she’s a warrior to hype her up and Paula Abdul doing the Xena scream, “Alalalalalala!”

Stepping out for some promotional duties, Nicole Scherzinger and Paula Abdul were on-hand for the ?X Factor? panel discussion during the 2011 Summer TCA Tour on Friday (August 5).
The lovely ladies, who were joined by Simon Cowell via satellite, sat amongst the show?s crew and answered a series of questions about the upcoming season.
During one point, Cowell mentioned that Mariah Carey could possibly be teaming up with them on ?The X Factor.?
He said, "She's been very enthusiastic about the show, but then she selfishly got pregnant, which is why she didn't end up as a judge."

Paula Abdul closed a last minute deal to become a judge on X Factor yesterday. She now joins LA Reid, Simon Cowell and Cheryl Cole at the judge’s table. Former Pussycat Doll Nicole Scherzinger and UK tv persona Steve Jones will host.
A condition in her contract for her failed Live to Dance show almost prevented her from joining X Factor but that wasn’t the main issue because it had been resolved. The main issue was Paula who didn’t make a final decision until hours before the taping. Asked what the problem was, Abdul said, “I am here, only Simon and I understand.” Which is true. No one can decipher Paula’s incoherent rambling except for Simon.
I’m surprised when they asked Paula for comment, she didn’t just say, “The sky is blue. Coke. Muffins?” She’s a terrible judge. Nothing she says is ever relevant. It’s as if when people perform in front of her, she closes her eyes and just imagines what happens and comments on that.

After a lot of speculation, Paula Abdul has joined Simon Cowell’s X Factor as a fellow judge. Accompanying her on the panel will be Cowell, British singer Cheryl Cole and American music producer Antonio “L.A.” Reid. Nicole Scherzinger of the Pussycat Dolls and British TV presenter Steve Jones will co-host the show, which premieres in September and just started filming on Sunday, with Paula there.
The ‘X Factor’ judging panel is complete, with the final chair to be filled by Paula Abdul, who just closed the deal in last-minute negotiations, according to the Hollywood Reporter.
Abdul will take her seat alongside Simon Cowell, reuniting the former ‘Idol’ stars once again. Cheryl Cole and Antonio ‘L.A.’ Reid have already been named as the other ‘X Factor’ judges.
Meanwhile, Pussycat Doll and former ‘Dancing With the Stars’ champ Nicole Scherzinger has been hired to host the U.S. talent competition when it premieres on Fox in September.
But Scherzinger will have a co-host, according to EW.com: Steve Jones, British TV personality. Jones, 34, is a Welsh-born former model and a virtual unknown in the U.S. (Of course, Ryan Seacrest was largely unknown when he was tapped to emcee ‘American Idol,’ and the gig seems to have worked out for him!) Jones reportedly was down to the wire competing for the ‘X Factor’ job against ‘High School Musical’ star Corbin Bleu.
Scherzinger, 32, wowed producers when she was a guest judge on a recent episode of the ‘X Factor’ in the U.K., where she also released a hit single this year, ‘Don’t Hold Your Breath.’

Well Paula will certainly make things more interesting, if not harder to understand. Cowell needed a big name to join him on the panel and while Reid and Cole are both famous they don’t have Paula’s name recognition. I like her and find her very sweet, but she’s definitely loopy as hell. She’s a fun sidekick for Simon though and he’ll be recreating the most interesting judge dynamic from Idol by having her join him on X Factor. Idol producers really screwed up the panel by bringing in Kara DioGuardi in 2009 and kind of forcing Paula out. I kind of understand why they did it though. She can’t be easy to work with.

The brainchild behind the new singing competition "The X Factor" hasn't ruled out his old friend Paula Abdul as possible judge on the show.
Simon Cowell recently announced that music producer L.A. Reid -- whom he describes as "the number one hitmaker in the world at the moment" -- would join him at the judge's table, but he is still searching for a third.
Simon had this to say about his former "American Idol" co-judge, "Paula is still in the mix - she definitely has my vote. I hate to admit this but I actually miss working with her. When I was working with her at times, I actually wanted to kill her, she was the most annoying person. And then I'd miss her, and I think she was the same."
Cowell says the selection process is complicated because so many people must agree on a choice, but he emphasizes: "You've got to trust your gut feeling. And I think it's important we've done what we've done, which is that we've taken our time - had a chance to meet as many people as possible, and then you've got to find the right chemistry.

Disappointed with the recent news, it is being reported that Paula Abdul is quite upset about not being asked back to ?Live To Dance.?
Although no official announcement has been made, the word around the gossip mill is that CBS did not renew the ?Opposites Attract? singer?s contract for a second season.
The reality show not only struggled to maintain ratings, it also received mixed reviews so ultimately the network decided not to invest in a second go.
?Paula kept hoping week after week that her show would pick up new viewers,? a source told Radar Online. ?But each week the ratings trailed off. It ended with only a little more than 4 million viewers watching the final? way too few for CBS to keep Paula?s dream dance show alive.?
