Here’s some photos of Penelope Cruz at the San Sebastian film festival premiere of Venuto al Mondo. She wore both a dress and a cardigan pantset (shown below for the photocall) by L’Wren Scott and paired black Ferragamo pumps with each of the outfits. The dress, which is far too feminine for my own tastes with all of that mauve floral print, looked spectacular on Penelope. Other than the fact that she can pull off nearly any outfit, I mostly envy her gorgeous hair. Bitch has perfect highlights.
In Venuto al Mondo, Penelope plays an Italian woman (really?), Gemma, who is unable to bear children. In an interview with the Guardian, she says her own experience in becoming a mother at age 37 helped prepare her for Gemma’s experiences. Penelope was also still nursing her and sexy beast Javier Bardem’s son, Leo, while she shot this movie, which made the situation quite interesting when her character held newborn babies. Here are some excerpts:
On her character “I think this movie is homage to all women, a homage to motherhood. It’s a homage to that relationship of mother and child. A woman that doesn’t want children obviously can be happy without children. But one that wants to have children that much … it’s very difficult for her to be happy. Of course I understood all that before I became a mother. But after you give birth you understand in a much deeper way what Gemma was missing.”
Interacting with set babies while she was still nursing: “Some of these babies were only a week old. And so they were smelling me and that made them want to eat. But I was playing a woman who couldn’t feed because she hadn’t given birth! That created a very strange but alive dynamic between me and those babies. You cannot learn something like that. And this film is full of moments that could not be planned.”
On life as a working mother: “More and more I try to be more picky with my selection. I am now able to choose the work I do, which I don’t take for granted.”

It’s nice to hear a Hollywood mom acknowledge that not every woman lives to be a mother. I certainly cannot identify with the Jennifer Garner school of thought that dictates there is “no deeper want for a woman than to be a mother.” Even though I do have a child, I honestly never planned to become a parent, and I don’t understand the yearning to have more children. Things are just fine for me with one child, and she (like it or not) is my world, but I suspect I’d have been just fine without having a kid. Don’t tell my daughter I said that though!
Back to the Penelope’s fashion — I really dig this black-and-white cardigan with these cropped black pants, and this look is even better than the dress. She’s so beautiful. Javier is a very lucky man!

Looking red hot to show off her latest film, Penelope Cruz followed up a midday photocall by attending the premiere of ?Venuto al Mondo? premiere in San Sebastian, Spain on Tuesday (September 25).
The 38-year-old Spanish-born beauty looked stunning in a strapless, full length red gown as she happily smiled for the awaiting photographers before heading in to catch the 60th San Sebastian International Film Festival screening.
As for the Sergio Castellitto directed drama, ?Venuto al Mondo? sees a single mother bring her teenage son to Sarajevo, where his father died in the Bosnian conflict years ago.
Speaking about the film adaptation of Margaret Mazzantini?s bestseller, Penelope previously told The Guardian, ?I think this movie is homage to all women, a homage to motherhood," adding, ?It's a homage to that relationship of mother and child."
?Venuto al Mondo? (Twice Born) is set to release in Italy on November 8.

Amping up promotions for her latest movie, Penelope Cruz headed over to the "Twice Born" photocall at the 2012 Toronto International Film Festival in Toronto, Canada on Thursday (September 13).
Fidgeting with her hair a couple times, the 38-year-old actress stunned on the black carpet in form-fitting dress pants paired with a purple and black button-up blazer.
Talking about her character, Penelope said, ?I knew the book [Twice Born] two years before I became a mother and really connected with it and understood this woman, even if I had never been in the situations she had been in.?
Hitting theaters on November 9th, "Twice Born" follows a single mother who brings her teenage son to Sarajevo, where his father died in the Bosnian conflict years ago.

The ?Vanilla Sky? actress donned a beautiful floral ruffle dress with open-toed sandals as she tried to ignore the attention she attracted from the local paparazzi.
In philanthropic news, Penelope is gearing up to launch a new t-shirt range to raise money for women?s cancer research.
She gushed, "I am honored to join the entertainment industry foundation's women's cancer research fund and Saks Fifth Avenue to raise awareness for women's cancers.?
"Cancer has affected each and every one of us in one way or another and I am thrilled to be involved with this wonderful cause."

She?s an internationally-loved superstar, so it?s no wonder Saks Fifth Avenue tapped Penelope Cruz to be the face of their 2012 Key to the Cure initiative.
The ?Vanilla Sky? actress will model Saks? limited edition Carolina Herrera t-shirt ($35) in a new public service announcement to raise awareness and money for EIF?s Women?s Cancer Research Fund.
Additionally, Penelope will host a meet and greet event at the New York City location of Saks Fifth Avenue as part of the Key to the Cure shopping weekend festivities from October 18th through the 21st.
Ms. Cruz explained, ?Cancer has affected each and every one of us in one way or another and I am thrilled to be involved with this wonderful cause.?

Last night, To Rome With Love had a special screening in NYC, Woody Allen?s hometown (although he?s been spending a lot of time in Europe these days). As you can imagine, tons of celebrities came out for the screening, making this one of the most interesting red carpets in a while. Unfortunately, I keep hearing that To Rome With Love is a POS. Oh, well. Woody averages about 2 crappy films per one good-to-decent one. And yes, I am a defender of Woody?s good films – I love Annie Hall, Hannah and Her Sisters, Bullets Over Broadway, Match Point and Sweet and Lowdown. I liked Vicky Christina Barcelona and Midnight In Paris too. Anyway?
Photos from the screening! Penelope Cruz just gets more and more beautiful, year after year. I buy that she?s not getting tweaked or ?Toxed or filler?d. I think she?s just aging like a badass. Penelope?s dress is Emilio Pucci – I do like it. It?s a beautiful shade of aubergine. She looks so lovely.

Making a breathtaking arrival at the Cinema Society with The Hollywood Reporter & Piaget and Disaronno special screening of her newest film, Penelope Cruz was spotted hitting the red carpet at Casa Lever in New York City on Wednesday night (June 20).
The brunette beauty looked stunning in a violet lace cocktail dress as she joined her fellow ?To Rome with Love? cast mate Greta Gerwig and the film?s director Woody Allen.
When speaking of working with the famous filmmaker, the Latina actress said, ?"I would love to work with him 20 times. I'm fascinated by his personality. Even a day of press, which is not my favorite part of this job, he makes it so interesting and so fun.?
The 38-year-old actress added, ?"I love playing someone that has no mental filter, that says everything that she feels. It's very liberating. I'm not very much like that, a little bit more controlled,? when discussing her new role in the romantic film.
?To Rome with Love? is scheduled to hit theatres this Friday (June 22).

The flick takes place in four different scenarios, all in European cities that intercut but are otherwise unrelated. It also stars Ellen Page, Jesse Eisenberg and Alec Baldwin.

She?s always a delight to have around, and last night (June 14) Penelope Cruz was spotted at ?The Tonight Show with Jay Leno.?
The ?Vanilla Sky? actress looked amazing in a beautiful black dress as she chatted about her new Woody Allen film ?To Rome With Love.?
During the conversation, Jay also noted that Penelope had been coming to ?The Tonight Show? for many years, and asked her if she remembered the first time.
Cruz replied, ?I was so nervous but I?m still nervous- I think I?ve been here ten times and you?re always so nice to me.?
As for her strong personality growing up, Penelope shared her parents? commentary on dealing with her. ?They say I was very difficult and there was no way to make me listen. But I have changed. I don?t think I am as stubborn [anymore].?

I can?t keep up with all of the film festivals these days – I thought the Los Angeles Film Festival didn?t happen until October or November? But maybe I?m thinking about the AFI Film Fest or something? Anyway, last night the LA Film Festival began with the premiere of Woody Allen?s new movie, To Rome With Love. Penelope Cruz stars in the film – this is her second collaboration with Woody, I believe. The first collaboration was Vicky Christina Barcelona, and Penelope ended up winning a Best Supporting Actress Oscar for the role. In that film, she played a crazy, temperamental, bisexual artist. In this film, Penelope plays a hooker. Because Woody Allen writes so well for women.
Anyway, Penelope wore this Michael Kors which is? okay. I?m not in love with the color, but it?s not bad on Penelope with her beautiful, dark coloring. On a blonde, it would look like oatmeal fug. My biggest problem with this look? Penelope?s beautiful hair looks dirty and oily. What?s the deal? Is that a style choice or is she really walking the carpet with dirty, unwashed hair?
Here?s the trailer for To Rome With Love. It looks cute. Sort of. I do think it?s nice that Woody is mining some fresh young talent like Jesse Eisenberg and Ellen Page.
I?m also including a photo of Julie Delpy because I love her un-Botoxed face, and Woody and Soon Yi. On the red carpet, Woody was asked about his recent ?dinner? with Lindsay Lohan, and he said this: ?I wouldn’t hesitate to use her in a movie because she’s a very talented girl. That was a social dinner [not for a movie]… I would not hesitate if I had something for her I would certainly call her.” Gross.
