Here are some photos of Reese Witherspoon at Wednesday night?s LA premiere of Inherent Vice. Can I just say? I completely forgot that Reese had on-screen history with Joaquin Phoenix. Like, I?ve written about Inherent Vice a few times, and I just didn?t put it together that this was an on-screen reunion for the Walk the Line lovers. Did I ever tell you guys about my theory that Joaquin and Reese had some kind of thing while they were working together on Walk the Line? It was towards the end of her marriage to Ryan Phillippe ? although they managed to grin and bear it throughout the awards season ? and Joaquin always seemed to have a special affection for Reese. I have no idea if it actually happened, but I prefer to think that it did.
For the LA premiere, Reese wore this pretty Pink Balenciaga dress. It works. It works on her, she styled it appropriately, and it wasn?t too ?look at me!? especially given that her part is this film is supporting. Reese hasn?t really been killing it on the red carpet this fall, but she hasn?t worn anything bad either. She?s been mixing it up, trying different looks, and I?m actually excited to see what she does for the awards shows.
As it turns out, Reese?s Oscar campaign has been working out pretty well. She got a Golden Globe nomination and a SAG Award nomination, and there?s every reason to believe she will be on the Oscar shortlist in January. I actually think Reese is one of the ?sure thing? Best Actress nominees, along with Felicity Jones (Felicity is surging) and Julianne Moore. Everybody thinks that Julianne will definitely win, which means that this race could get a major shakeup if the SAGs or Globes anoint someone else. The question is also: ?Who will get the other two Best Actress slots?? Jennifer Aniston? Rosamund Pike? Amy Adams?
Also: Reese is on Twitter, which I always forget. She?s pretty good at it ? she doesn?t engage with crazies and she?s usually just tweeting about work stuff. She tweeted her reactions to her nominations ? go here to read.

She?s on the cover of Glamour magazine and her new movie ?Wild? is getting Oscar buzz so it?s safe to say things are going well for Reese Witherspoon.
During her interview on ?The Ellen DeGeneres Show,? the ?Sweet Home Alabama? babe discussed that while her fans love her, her kids are another story.
Reese explained that 15-year-old daughter Ava and 11-year-old son Deacon are embarrassed by her diva tendencies and prolific makeup collection. While driving Deacon in her car recently, Ms. Witherspoon got a lecture about cosmetics. ?Deacon said, ?Ugh! The lipstick on your coffee cup is so embarrassing.? I said, ?Get over it, kid, because I?ve got a lot of lipstick!??
As for her husband Jim Toth, Reese gushed, ?It means everything to me that he?s always just telling me how great I am, and how much he loves what I do. I feel very blessed.?

Here are some assorted photos of Reese Witherspoon out and about in NYC yesterday. She did an interview with GMA and a screening of Wild. She really, really wants an Oscar nomination, obviously, and she?s going full hustle for it. There is a question, in my mind, about this current Oscar hustle being something like a ?comeback? for Reese. She?s not putting herself out there like it?s a ?comeback,? probably because she doesn?t want people to think that she was ever at a low point. But she?s really hoping that she puts last year?s liquor-soaked arrest behind her.
It was last year?s arrest ? and the fact that we could watch the whole video of the American Citizen?s utter meltdown ? that really changed public perception of Reese. Still, I guess most PR people have told Reese that she?s back in the public?s good graces (because she?s blonde and sugary, obviously) and that she doesn?t need to change her behavior, even though it was perfectly clear that Reese and Jim Toth are both total boozehounds these days. Reese Witherspoon covers the new issue of Glamour, and I might have to take back what I?ve been saying about Reese toning down her Oscar campaign. Reese has Oscar Campaign Talking Points ? and she?s hitting them in every interview. Denying the ?America?s Sweetheart? mantle? Check. Newly empowered Hollywood heavyweight? Check. Role model for her daughter? Check. Fighting for women everywhere? Check. Going on a journey of self-discovery and empowerment while making a movie about self-discovery and healing? Check. It?s getting sort of annoying. But still, we persevere. You can read the full Glamour piece here ? she was interviewed by Cheryl Strayed, author of Wild. Some highlights:
She?s not your sweetheart: “I certainly didn’t self-identify as anyone’s sweetheart. I’m friendly, but I don’t think I’m sweet. I’m honest.”
Wild isn?t just about having no makeup: “I was scared of the really emotional scenes. I was scared of the sexuality. I was scared of the grittiness and of being bare on-screen. It’s not just about having no makeup on your face, like I did in the film. It’s about not being conscious of how you’re perceived, allowing yourself to be broken, the way she did so fearlessly in the book.?
Wild is about mothers: ?My mom saw the movie with Laura Dern?s mother, and they held hands the whole time they watched the movie. Laura and I were talking about it later, and we realized that if we never said another word to our mothers about how important they were to us, we knew they saw themselves on that screen when they watched Wild. They saw how important they were in our lives.?
Mom lessons: ?I?ll always remember these platitudes my mother said to me, like ?Your job is your life insurance. Don?t ever let anybody take it away from you.? This is so dumb, but the other day Ava said, ?Well, Mom, you said that drinking water with lemon is good for my body.? I burst into tears, going, ?Oh my God, you listen to me!? Parenting triumph.?
What she wants to teach her daughter: ?To not be ashamed about any of her experiences. To live life fully, with curiosity and love, and to be brave.?
Becoming a young mom: ?I was 23. I didn?t know what I was doing. I was young. It was shocking. When people ask, ?When?s the best time to get pregnant?? I say, ?Pick the best day for when your entire life is gonna change.? There?s no good time to have your world turned upside down?I don?t think there?s been an hour of my life since Ava was born that I don?t think of my kids. I call it my CNN ticker tape: Is Ava OK? Yes. Is Deacon OK? Yes. Is Tennessee OK? Yes. Back to Ava.?
Oprah-speak: ?I don?t think I realized [in my twenties] that no one else makes you whole. You have to take responsibility for your own happiness. That took me until I was about 31 to know. It wasn?t easy to realize, Oh wait, I am purely responsible [for my life]?no relationship, no children, no nothing is going to make you a happy person. Every day you have to choose to find and cultivate your own happiness.?

Our perception of Reese has changed so much since the American Citizen incident, and it?s difficult for me to actually remember how Reese was perceived pre-arrest. She was considered an ?America?s Sweetheart? and I seem to remember her feeding into that, profiting from that perception a great deal. One particular incident that I remember: Reese at the 2011 MTV Movie Awards, receiving an award and taking that moment to shame women who made sex tapes or took naked selfies. She patronized the crowd ? which included Blake Lively, fresh off of her naked-photo leak ? saying that ?It?s totally possible to be a good girl.? And this is the same Reese who tries to play it like she was never your good-girl sweetheart. Sure.

Here is Reese Witherspoon wearing white to the premiere of Wild in Hollywood last night. She kept things simple but stunning in a strapless white Spring 2015 Cotton Ottoman dress by Zac Posen, which clung to her petite figure in all the right places.
The star, who also produces the movie, posed up on the red carpet with Laura Dern… who, despite being just nine years older than Reese at 47, portrays her mother in the movie.

Here are some photos of last night?s LA premiere of Wild, Reese Witherspoon?s ?Oscar hopeful.? Reese has a much better chance at getting an Oscar nomination than Jennifer Aniston, actually. Reese has made it to most Best Actress shortlists. I?m including photos of Reese, Wild author Cheryl Strayed and Laura Dern. Dern plays Reese?s mom in the movie.
I?m also including some close-ups of Reese?s absolutely GREAT jewelry p0rn. I?m not sure if that rock is her engagement ring plus some eternity bands or if she borrowed those jewels, but they are great. Her sapphire earrings are amazing too. Reese?s dress is Zac Posen and she?s wearing nude Louboutins. I?m not really into the dress, but it?s alright. Is it just me or does Reese?s bust look?larger? Padding or bolt-ons?
Meanwhile, Reese took part in this year?s THR Actress Roundtable, which was just a roundtable of white ladies. Seriously, there are no notable women of color in film this year? The roundtable featured Amy Adams, Laura Dern, Patricia Arquette, Felicity Jones and more. You can read THR?s coverage here, I haven?t read the whole thing yet, I confess. During the discussion, the conversation came around to Renee Zellweger?s new face, Reese piped up:
The sprawling conversation covered interesting ground, and the actresses touched on a few hot-button Hollywood issues, including Rene Zellweger, who was the victim of disturbingly harsh criticism last month after some Internet users suggested that the actress?s face appeared different.
?It?s cruel and rude and disrespectful,? Witherspoon said of the Internet?s criticism of Zellweger. ?It bothers me immensely . . . I know this is so Pollyanna of me, but why?and it’s particularly women?why do they have to tear women down? And why do we have to tear other women down to build another woman up? . . . Like, this one looks great without her makeup but that one doesn’t look good without her makeup, and it’s all just a judgment and assault that I don’t?look, men are prey to it as well. I just don’t think it’s with the same sort of ferocity.?

As CB and I both said at the time, it was absolutely human nature to simply NOTICE that Renee has a new face. I say it?s human nature to comment on it too, like ?Wow, she?s had some work done.? Renee?s old face made her a very rich woman and she won tons of awards because of her stellar acting. Her old face was part of her brand, and she messed with her brand when she changed her face (and then blatantly lied about it). I think falling back on some kind of ?that?s sexist!!!? argument IS Pollyanna. It?s the new thing that so many celebrity women are doing now ? they think crying sexism is a magic wand they can wave over a conversation to shut down legitimate conversation/criticism of their behavior. And if any of you disagree with me, that?s SO SEXIST.

Are you tired of the Rah Rah Feminism jag that every actress has been on lately? I don?t mind it, honestly. I?d much rather cover actresses talking about feminism than, say, what they eat or how they parent or how they were terribly uncool in their teen years. And while I find American Citizen ? Reese Witherspoon pretty unlikeable these days, I?ll admit that she has some interesting things to say from inside the Hollywood Machine. Reese is campaigning for that Oscar, hoping that she somehow gets a second Best Actress Oscar for her work in Wild. That seems to be where she?s positioning herself these days. Hilariously, the press surrounding her Oscar campaign is mirroring Matthew McConaughey?s campaign last year ? everybody has noticed it, and Reese is even using the same kind of McConaughey-esque language of ?I made a conscious effort to redirect.? Reese mixes it with a dash of feminism and voila! Oscar campaign! Here are some highlights from Reese?s New York Times interview:
Why she ?redirected? her career a few years ago: ?Other than one studio, literally one, nobody was developing anything with a female lead. It just hit me like a ton of bricks. And I was so mad. And then I thought: ?Why am I so upset about this? Why don?t I do something about it?? ?
The perils of being a likeable America?s Sweetheart: ?I?ve sat through millions of development meetings where people are like: ?We don?t want Reese to say profanity. We don?t want her to have sex. We don?t want her to take drugs.? I didn?t really feel the constraints of it until about three years ago, where I realized, ?I?m not this.? I?m a complex person that has so many different aspects in my personality. But somehow, I have this reductive experience where I?m put into this tiny little box. Likable. Can we scrub the likable box? And what is likable? To me, likable is human, and real, and honest. To me, I find the character in ?Wild? much more likable than a lot of characters I?ve played in comedy. She?s telling the truth. She?s not ashamed of the sexual experiences she?s had. She?s not ashamed of her drug use.?
Her 15-year-old daughter Ava: ?It?s interesting to see how men look at her now. And what kind of women is she looking at in film? Who are her heroes?? Beyond some of Jennifer Lawrence?s characters, in the ?The Hunger Games? and ?Silver Linings Playbook,? Ms. Witherspoon said, ?It?s pretty thin.?
On her performance in Wild: ?I said to my producing partner, ?If we can pull this off, this?ll be the first movie, I believe, I can?t recall, but that stars a woman that at the very end has no money, no man, no parents, no job, no opportunities, and it?s a happy ending.? How important, how needing of that, are we? How late to the party are we??
Feminism: ?We save ourselves. Every woman knows it. Every man knows it. You look up. Nobody?s coming to the rescue. It?s a universal story. But it?s revolutionary in the way that a woman is allowed to tell it.?

I?m fine with the message, but I do find the messenger questionable. The thing is? being ?likeable? is a gilded cage, I get that. But for women like Reese, like Jennifer Aniston and Jennifer Garner and Sandra Bullock and many more, likeability is extremely lucrative. It?s how many actresses build their resumes and their bank accounts. Likeability and relatability are two of the most powerful tools for celebrity women. But, as I said, likeability is a gilded cage. Many of those ?sweethearts? have tried to break out and get dirty (Reese even got arrested after bitching out a cop), and very few people are buying it. So, after so many years of being told that Reese is likeable, that she?s a sweetheart, that she?s just a down-home Southern girl and she could be your best friend? now Reese is turning her back on that image. All to save her career and possibly get another Oscar nomination. What do you think?

Taking care of her to-do list, Reese Witherspoon stepped out in Beverly Hills on Thursday afternoon (October 23).
And while it was merely a casual outing, the ?Cruel Intentions? cutie still made sure she looked flawless, sporting a navy blouse and matching checked skirt with burgundy heels.
As of late, Reese has been busy promoting a pair of new films, including ?The Good Lie,? and ?Wild,? and in 2015 she?ll star in ?Don?t Mess with Texas? and ?Inherent Vice.?
Furthermore, Ms. Witherspoon is in the midst of developing a lifestyle company, all while taking care of her three kiddos and devoted husband.

Don?t you know who she is?! Reese Witherspoon is an American Citizen, standing on British soil and an American citizen does hold their own umbrella! Maybe some tea-pouring Englishman will hold his own umbrella, but not an American citizen!
Here are photos of Reese at the BFI London Film Festival yesterday, promoting Wild. I think Wild is going to be her big Oscar hopeful ? she?s been talking about Wild a lot more than The Good Lie. I?m including photocall pics plus premiere pics. For the (rainy!) premiere, Reese wore this black Stella McCartney gown which I?m still trying to figure out. I mean, it?s Stella McCartney so I have to hate it flat-out, right? I rarely like anything Stella puts her name on. But I don?t think this is flat-out awful, it?s just trying to do too much all at once. I don?t get the sheer panel at the waist plus the faux reptile bust plus the animal print at the collar. WTF? Something nice: Reese?s styling looks great. Nice bouncy blow-out, great makeup. She must have been so pissed about the rain!
For the photocall, she wore a really boring Giambattista Valli. I really don?t get why Valli?s designs are considered interesting or whatever. Most of the time, the dresses are either twee or bland as hell.
As for her 2013 American Citizen Arrest, Reese was asked about in London (ooh, I bet that pissed her off too!) and she said:
?I think it was a moment where people realized that I wasn’t exactly what they thought I was. I guess maybe we all like to define people by the way the media presents them, and I think that I showed I have a complexity that people didn’t know about. It’s part of human nature. I made a mistake. We all make mistakes. The best you can do is say sorry and learn from it and move on.”

Yeah, she wasn?t drunk and rude, she just has ?complexity?! I?m enjoying Reese?s passive voice here ? ?people realized that I wasn’t exactly what they thought I was? NOT ?people realized that I wasn?t the adorable America?s Sweetheart, which is an image I helped create and perpetuate.? But at least she says she made a mistake and apologizes. Hey, that?s more than most people do.

Showing some love to her English fans, Reese Witherspoon headed over to the Mayfair Hotel as part of the 58th BFI London Film Festival today (October 13).
The ?Sweet Home Alabama? babe was in the house for a photocall for her forthcoming film ?Wild,? and even got a chance to rub shoulders with author Cheryl Strayed, who penned the novel that sprouted the film.
On Friday (October 10) Reese attended Variety?s Power of Women event and sang the praises of Malala Yousafzaimade, the youngest-ever winner of the Nobel Peace Prize.
Ms. Witherspoon shared, "This summer, we got to meet Malala ? Ava and I. We got to have dinner with her at a friend's house, which was incredible. She sat next to Ava at dinner and they talked about schoolwork and homework and what their life goals were, and Ava was just in awe of this 17-year-old woman."
"When I was 14, I was worried about learning my lines and impressing casting directors. When Malala Yousafzai was 14, she was speaking out against an oppressive regime and fighting for the rights for girls to be educated around the world."
