| Reese Witherspoon in Michael Kors at 'A Wrinkle In Time' premiere: fine or meh' | Added 6 years ago | Source: CeleBitchy |

A Wrinkle In Time premiered Monday night in LA and it turned into a huge A-list event with the creme de la creme of black Hollywood. Ava DuVernay directed AWIT for Disney, becoming the first African-American woman to helm a film with a $100 million-plus budget. God, I hope this movie makes money. I was concerned about Black Panther?s box office but I felt like even if BP had a disappointing box office, it wouldn?t ?flop.? I?m genuinely concerned that AWIT might flop. Fingers crossed that doesn?t happen – Ava has the Disney machinery behind her, so I?m cautiously optimistic. Anyway, here are some fashion photos from the premiere, and I?m mostly concentrating on the people who are actually IN the film (but not exclusively). Reese Witherspoon wore Michael Kors, and her daughter was her date. I love the color of this Kors gown but? the design sucks, right?
OPRAH! This ensemble isn?t that flattering, but I love her glasses.
Mindy Kaling in Greta Constantine. God, she looks amazing! She just gave birth to daughter Katherine a few months ago!
Oh, hey Chris Pine. Forever Bae.
Ava DuVernay in Cushnie et Ochs. She looks amazing. Ryan Coogler and JJ Abrams came out to support her too, which is awesome.
Gugu Mbatha-Raw in Vionnet. She is just a beautiful woman, but the dress looks like repurposed old flags sewn together.
Tessa Thompson in Miu Miu? I get the feeling that Tessa?s personal style is sort of offbeat rather than It-Girl-fashion. I don?t like this, but I don?t hate it either.
Janelle Mone in Wolk Morais. I love her. She can do no wrong.

| Reese Witherspoon: We haven't 'been seeing the full female experience' in media | Added 7 years ago | Source: CeleBitchy |
|
|
|
|
|
Reese Witherspoon was in New York last week to accept WSJ Magazine?s Entertainment Innovator of the Year award. She spoke for nine minutes about women?s representation in the entertainment business. Reese commented on the fact that we aren?t getting a broad scope of women?s stories in entertainment because women are relegated to a few niche markets. Reese vowed to bring to screen as many women-driven stories as she could with her Hello Sunshine production company. She?s discussed her mission to make more stories for women before but really drove this point home in her WSJ speech.
“I don?t know if you guys heard, but there has been a lot of stuff going on in Hollywood. We?ve been dealing with some really ugly truth of sexism and sexual harassment, and it has been rampant for far longer than I have been an actress, and it?s brought back a lot of painful memories for people.
?It?s been a real time of reckoning for us, and there is a definitely a growing realization that we need to take the time to really examine the biases that exist in our industry and make much-needed change. Because this is not an issue about actors and actresses, this is a bigger issue about power. I think we have to turn a critical eye about female leadership in Hollywood and whether that?s encouraged or even allowed, because you can?t have accountability or awareness of different perspectives if women are not at the decision-making table.?
“I don?t really believe that we?ve been seeing the full spectrum of the female experience, and that is simply because women?s stories are not prioritized. I?m not talking about mommy blogs and 14 ways to cook a turkey.
?Women want real substance and premium thought-provoking, well-made content, and they want it now. Women want to be entertained where they are, running errands, going to the doctor, on their mobile phones, their laptops. We need to stop expecting them to come to us, and we need to go to them because they want to see themselves onscreen, and that?s the most important thing.
?I?ve had an incredible career as an actress, and it?s my first love. I love being an actor, but now it?s become abundantly clear to me that I have a new mission, and that?s to do more for others in my industry. I?m determined to create more opportunity for other women and people of color. To help them tell their stories. To encourage CEOs to take chances on high-level female executives and champion new female voices on film, because the stories we tell have to got change. And sometimes change is about something small, sometimes change starts in a room like this with people like all of you.?
[Transcribed by Buzzfeed and Huffington Post]
Overall, I really like Reese?s comments. I agree that it would be nice to see something other than a select few archetypes allowed in stories. I?d love to see a sea of women and people of color on screen that represent the people I know in my world. I remember watching No Reservations starring Catherine Zeta-Jones and thinking, ?Is there any other profession for a female protagonist than ?chef??? For a while, it appeared to be the only job screenwriters could think to give to a woman. I agree that women and POC?s stories are not prioritized. And if Reese wants to run around finding those stories, more power to her. I?ll leave a couple on my doorstep for her to collect. Because she?s right, they?re out there, it’d be great if they were given the green light.
I can?t tell if I am just overly sensitive today but I was taken aback by Reese?s jab at ?mommy? and food bloggers. I don?t read either but that doesn?t mean they aren?t valid. And when I do need 14 ways to cook a turkey, I?m glad those women are there to show me how to do it. I don?t dislike Reese so I want to believe that she didn?t mean it the way it came off. Maybe she meant that many women want to do something other than write or read mom advice and recipes and they should be allowed more opportunities to do so. If that?s what she?s saying, I agree with her. If she?s belittling a predominantly female genre, I?m going to need to get out my tsking finger.

| Reese Witherspoon opens up about being assaulted at 16 by a director | Added 7 years ago | Source: CeleBitchy |

Reese Witherspoon was among the attendees at the Elle Women in Hollywood event last night. I’m going to get the superficial stuff out of the way first and to comment on her dress, a black Calvin Klein a-line with matelass/quilted fabric. It’s a cute dress without the tied-on bell sleeves, which seem like an afterthought. Reese’s look was lovely overall.
Reese was there with her daughter, 18 year-old Ava. Reese spoke to the crowd about the topic that’s been on our minds ever since the news came out about the breadth of Harvey Weinstein’s assaults on women and massive abuse of power. Women are sharing and facing their own stories of harassment, assault and abuse and it’s been both tough to face and freeing in a way. Reese opened up about some of the abuse she suffered as a teen at 16 working in films. She also mentioned that she’s gone through so much more than just that, but she didn’t get into details. Her speech was powerful and I would like to see the video if it’s ever made available. People has the details.
?This has been a really hard week for women in Hollywood, for women all over the world, and a lot of situations and a lot of industries are forced to remember and relive a lot of ugly truths,? the Oscar winner said at the event held at the Four Seasons Hotel in Beverly Hills. ?I have my own experiences that have come back to me very vividly and I find it really hard to sleep, hard to think, hard to communicate a lot of the feelings that I?ve been having about anxiety, honest, the guilt for not speaking up earlier.?
?[I feel] true disgust at the director who assaulted me when I was 16-years-old and anger at the agents and the producers who made me feel that silence was a condition of my employment,? she added.
?And I wish that I could tell you that was an isolated incident in my career, but sadly it wasn?t. I?ve had multiple experiences of harassment and sexual assault and I don?t speak about them very often.?
?But after hearing all the stories these past few days and hearing these brave women speak up tonight about things that we?re kind of told to sweep under the rug and not to talk about, it?s made me want to speak up and speak up loudly because I actually felt less alone this week than I have ever felt in my entire career.?
Adding, ?I have just spoken to so many actresses and writers, particularly women, who have had similar experiences and many of them have bravely gone public with their stories. That truth is very encouraging to me and everyone out there in the world because you can only heal by telling the truth.?
?I feel really, really encouraged that there will be a new normal. For the young women in this room, life is going to be different because we?re with you, we have your back and it makes me feel better. It makes me so sad to talk about these issues, but I would be remiss not to,? Witherspoon concluded.
[From People]
I can relate to not being able to sleep, to feeling anxiety and uncertainty and to remembering some really sad and terrifying experiences I went through as a teen, young adult, and as a career woman. It’s painful to realize what you dealt with and to imagine that other young people may be going through that too. I don’t even want to get into specifics because I don’t want to talk about it. I think that we need to both applaud and champion women who are telling their stories and to understand why so many of us aren’t ready. We already have so much guilt and shame around things that were never our fault. Also, Reese didn’t name her accuser, but IMDB has some possibilities and maybe more women will come forward with stories about that person. As Kaiser wrote, it takes dozens of women to make our voices heard about a predator. Hopefully, as Reese mentioned, things are changing.

| Reese Witherspoon in Mouret at the LA 'Home Again' premiere: fine or blah' | Added 7 years ago | Source: CeleBitchy |

I rarely say this about mother-daughter combos, but I wish Reese Witherspoon and Ava Phillippe had switched dresses. Reese brought her daughter as her date to last night?s LA premiere of Home Again, Reese?s latest rom-com. Reese wore this red Roland Mouret dress which is? fine. I don?t love it or hate it. It?s a perfectly acceptable dress. I imagine it would have looked great on Ava. Now imagine Ava?s animal-print dress on Reese? that would have looked awesome, right? Right. Plus, it would have helped Reese achieve her new brand: blousy, semi-drunk Southern mom in her 40s. An animal print just would have worked!
As for Home Again? I?ve seen the trailer a few times and I think it looks like a cute enough concept for a rom-com. I was SHOCKED when I saw Michael Sheen playing her ex though. What?s he doing there? Did he need a paycheck, or did he just like the idea of playing Reese?s ex?
So it will either be a huge hit or a big flop, I think. Meanwhile, Reese recently filmed A Wrinkle in Time with Mindy Kaling, and they became friendly, so now Reese is doing a guest-starring role in The Mindy Project?s final season. Nice! Wreath Witherspoons for everybody!
And I?m also including photos of Lake Bell, who appears in Home Again. She wore Antonio Berardi and arguably the worst bangs of the year. Her hair stylist hates her.

| Reese Witherspoon: find out what your kids like, don't expect them to be like you | Added 7 years ago | Source: CeleBitchy |

|
I’ve decided I am definitely going to go see Reese Witherspoon?s new movie, Home Again, but I still cannot figure out what it?s about. I get that it?s a single mom who lets three young men come live with her but beyond that, I?m lost. However, I assume the bulk of the movie is Reese?s character rediscovering herself+ though her relationships. Reese?s real life relationships seem to be a little tidier than those in the movie. She has been married to Jim Toth for six years and is mother to three kids, Ava, Deacon and Tennessee. From what I can tell, Reese does seem to be a pretty dedicated parent. It looks like she and Ryan Philippe, Ava and Deacon?s father, were able to put aside their differences post divorce to co-parent amicably. Tennessee is only four so we don?t see much of him, which I also applaud. Recently Reese spoke a little about her kids and their differences. She also shared some of her parenting advice about celebrating your kids individuality and I have to say, I couldn?t agree more.
[Of your kids] gives you the best advice and is the most critical?
My daughter gives the best advice. She?s a really good listener.
My middle son Deacon, who?s 14, kind of tells me when I?m embarrassing everyone in the family. When I say things like ?lit.?
He?s like ?Don?t say that. That?s not a thing.?
How important is it for you to help your kids discover themselves?
I think the most important thing is that you figure out what your kids are passionate about and what they?re good at and don?t expect them to be like you. It?s your job as a parent to figure out who they are.
We?re excited about this new morning show project you?re working on
I?m excited. I can?t talk too much about it. It?s definitely interesting. I?ve lived in a world where I?ve been interviewed for 35 years and it?s kind of interesting to flip it around and see what the other side looks like and how journalists live their lives.
[From ETOnline]
Reese went on to say, “I think the older you get, you realize you don’t know anything about anything, you know?” Everyone tells you this when you’re young but you really don?t believe until you start navigating adulthood. I don?t think I do anything the way I thought I would. The Mister and I were just discussing watching our kids develop their own interests and how it?s probably our favorite thing about raising them. That shocked me, too, because I thought what I would enjoy the most was watching them develop a taste for everything I loved. It?s not only important that they become their own person, it?s a lot more interesting. The only thing I dictate is what football team they route for. Even then I give them a choice: they can route for the 49ers or sleep outside during football season. As for embarrassing the kids, that?s our right as a parent. For mine it?s my car dancing. It makes me sad too because they used to join in. I just don?t know where I went wrong with them.
I?m excited for the Reese/Jennifer Aniston collaboration. I think both are good comedic actresses, even if they don?t veer far from their well-worn paths. Plus, I loved their chemistry on Friends so yeah, I?m all in on whatever it turns out to be. In my fantasy, their show is a cross between their rom-com niche and The Earliest Show parody.

| Reese Witherspoon: 'People don't have to be snotty and rude when you go into a store' | Added 7 years ago | Source: CeleBitchy |

I first saw these quotes over on The Daily Mail, and I thought that Reese Witherspoon was responding in a roundabout way to the terrible treatment that Gabourey Sidibe had at a Chanel boutique recently, which Chanel half-apologized for without really acknowledging the problem. (As many of you pointed out to me, thanks!) Reese of course has her Draper James line, which is like a Southern slightly more expensive Kate Spade, and they have three boutiques. Apparently these quotes are slightly older though, as People ran them and pointed out that Reese said this to them last year. They’re celebrating the fact that Draper James is now available at Nordstrom. It’s still worth talking about though, because I think she has a good point about customer service. Plus there’s a huge difference in southern hospitality, which can be fake and cloying but is still very welcoming.
?When you?re on movies, you?re talking to writers and directors trying to shape the story and characters. In Draper James meetings, we try to connect a story to a product,? she told PeopleStyle last year of how she crafts her pieces, including staples like tees that say ?What Would Dolly Do?.? ?We create things that remind us of our southern upbringings and want everything we put out there to bring you joy and be something you?ll have forever.?
Her tip for finding something you love? Be yourself. ?For me, fashion doesn?t have to be serious,? she said. ?It doesn?t have to make you feel bad. People don?t have to be snotty and rude when you go into a store. There are a lot of places in this world where people feel like they don?t belong. I want people to feel like they belong.?
[From People]
I am a Yankee who lives in the south and I can confirm that people are super nice here – to your face. They will regularly be nice in your presence and then talk about you behind your back, which I’m fine with actually. I am somewhat skilled in the art of gossip and I know how to use it to my advantage. Getting back to the customer service angle, there’s something really comforting about being smiled at, greeted and asked how you’re doing, even if it’s just a formality. When I visit relatives up north I do miss how friendly everyone is here and find myself being more “nice” than most of the people there. Also, now that I’m accustomed to this type of service I don’t want to give my business to stores where the people aren’t welcoming. I’m not much of a label follower and I do a lot of shopping online though.
Reese has really adopted a southern person to shill her brand, right y’all?
HOWDY y'all! This news really floats my boat! ?@DraperJames is now available at select @nordstrom stores across the country! So excited for y'all to see! Be sure to check us out! ?

| Reese Witherspoon in Thierry Mugler at the Met Gala: pretty or plain? | Added 7 years ago | Source: CeleBitchy |

When Reese Witherspoon showed up at the Met Gala last night the E! panel crowed over the fact that she wasn’t wearing yet another mermaid gown. I guess Reese is as bad as Sophia Vergara when it comes to sticking to that one style, but she mixed it up somewhat in a one shoulder black and navy Thierry Mugler gown. That said, this is a rather boring look for the Met Gala. It’s got that one puffy sleeve and I like the bold cobalt ribbed fabric for the bodice. It isn’t a completely safe choice (see: Gwyneth Paltrow) and it’s very 80s Dynasty. Her makeup is 80s too so she’s consistent.

Here’s Doutzen Kroes in deep red Brock Collection. I love how the folded sleeves are only slightly different. You can see the attention to detail with the ribbing on the bodice. This is a fantastic gown that’s so subtly done and it does fit with the theme. Plus she just looks ethereal with that beachy hair and light makeup.
Miranda Kerr was really feeling herself in a silver Oscar de la Renta gown with a poppy print. like the other women who wore de la Renta last night she was not on theme on all. She looked like a cookie cutter princess though and she was obviously happy about that.
Lily Collins was a happy goth clown in black and Pink Giambattista Valli. Her styling is just awful. That wig! Also, this started off as pants with a bustier and then they threw that Pink tulle skirt on top. You know who might work this? Rooney Mara.
Embed from Getty Images
Janelle Monae is very much a black and white theme dresser. Just look at any of her events over the past year. She does black and white statement gowns and she goes bold and the Met Gala was the place for it. This is Ralph and Russo and it’s a giant gown with a bunch of different elements in keeping with the theme. Check out the high feathered collar and I especially like the messy layering of the skirt.

Here are some photos of Reese Witherspoon at this weekend?s Sing premiere. Sing is the animated film where various animals are entering a singing competition, basically. Reese plays a singing pig named Rosita, and she apparently sings a lot of Katy Perry and Taylor Swift. As for this premiere, Reese wore a cute little Elie Saab dress. I like it, it?s appropriate for this premiere and it?s flattering. Is it a tad boring? Sure.
Meanwhile, there was another reason why I wanted to talk about Reese! Earlier this year, Reese and several other actresses were hard at work on the HBO miniseries adaptation of Liane Moriarty?s Big Little Lies. Moriarty is an Australian writer best known for her very readable ?women?s fiction,? books like What Alice Forgot, The Husband?s Secret, and this one, Big Little Lies. My mom read this book and she loved it, but I haven?t gotten around to reading it. I will now, because the trailer for the miniseries looks amazing. Here you go:
Reese not only stars, but executive produces this as well, which is SO SMART. She must have read the book and decided that this character was perfect for her, plus it was a perfect vehicle for a female-led cast. The miniseries also stars Laura Dern, Nicole Kidman, Shailene Woodley, Alexander Skarsgard, Adam Scott, Zoe Kravitz (who looks so much like her mother, my God) and more. This looks so good, y?all.
Oh, I?m also including a photo of Matthew McConaughey and Camila at the Sing premiere too.

| Reese Witherspoon celebrates Legally Blonde's anniversary in Elle's costumes | Added 8 years ago | Source: CeleBitchy |

Legally Blonde is one of the few movie that I will always stop for if I am flicking channels to see what’s on. I thought Reese Witherspoon was a riot in it and I kind of adore Jennifer Coolidge. There have been times, hand to God, that I or someone else doubted I could do something and I told myself inwardly, “Elle Woods got in to Harvard” as motivation.
Wednesday was the 15-year anniversary of the movie’s release. To celebrate, Reese showed off several of the costumes and props she had on hand from the film and asked her Instagram and Snapchat followers to post their favorite memories/creations with the hashtag #LegallyBlonde15.
Reese kicked off celebrations a day early, posting a video to her Instagram alerting fans to the upcoming celebrations by waving around her fuzzy Pink pen and asking her followers to tag her in anything that reminds them of the film.
She then went on Snapchat, revealing that she still has a box filled with all of her old costumes, including a huge array of Pink and fuzzy heels. Why those aren?t all a regular part of her everyday wardrobe rotation we?ll never understand.
[From People]
Reese set things in motion with this:
Alright, y?all! Can you believe it?s Legally Blonde?s 15th anniversary tomorrow!? ? Celebrate with me on @instagram … Full details in video ??? #LegallyBlonde15 #ThinkPink
