Jameela Jamil has a podcast, which I did not know and have listened to exactly one episode. It?s called I Weigh and the bio blurb says the podcast, ?challenges society?s definition of worth through weight by asking different thought-leaders, performers, activists, influencers, and friends about how they are working through their past shames to find where their value truly lie.? However, based on her discussion with Reese Witherspoon, it sounds like Jameela is trying to touch on a wide range of mental health issues and women?s issues. In their discussion, Jameela and Reese discussed looking after ourselves and how we benefit from therapy, something Reese said she started at the age of 15. But Reese said the one area she didn?t get help was when she experienced postpartum depression, which she had to varying extents with two of her kids, and had no information as she was going through it.
?After each child, I had a different experience,? she told Jameela. ?One kid, I had kind of mild postpartum, and one kid, I had severe postpartum where I had to take pretty heavy medication because I just wasn?t thinking straight at all. And then I had one kid where I had no postpartum at all.?
?We don?t understand the kind of hormonal roller coaster that you go on when you stop nursing, Reese continued. No one explained that to me. I was 23 years old when I had my first baby and nobody explained to me that when you wean a baby, your hormones go into the toilet. I felt more depressed than I?d ever felt in my whole life. It was scary.?
During the interview, the actor recalled not having any guidance or help during her postpartum depression. Instead, Reese said she ?white-knuckled back? to herself.
?I think hormones are so under-studied and not understood,? she explained. ?I kept reaching out to my doctors for answers. There just isn?t enough research about what happens to women?s bodies and the hormonal shifts that we have aren?t taken as seriously as I think they should be.?
I have deep compassion for women who are going through that. Postpartum [depression] is very real, she declared.

As I said, I did listen to the podcast, but I used Buzzfeed?s transcription because they hit on what I wanted to talk about (notice how I avoid saying I?m lazy). Part of the lead-in discussion to the PPD topic was both ladies saying that had women been allowed in medicine earlier, women?s issues would have been addressed sooner and more completely. I think this is a valid point. Reese said a couple of times that she was so young when she was going through her hormonal roller coaster and nobody talked to her about what she was experiencing. I was in my mid-to-late 30s when I went through mine and nobody talked to me about it either. I do think hormonal issues are still largely left out of the discussion unless someone brings it up and I cannot figure out why. I just had my expired IUD removed after being put on the pill for menopausal issues and have been suffering from a three-day, on-again, off again migraine as a result. I thought I brought it on myself with diet and stress but my very first google search said nope, it?s because I?m on the sugar pill week. It?s as if women are just expected to know everything about our bodies on our own. Or, even worse, we?re expected to simply deal with everything, preferably in silence.
Jameela brought up Reese?s Draper James giveaway as an example of how much Reese is giving back to teachers. The podcast dropped right around when we heard that the giveaway went awry. It?s possible Reese didn?t know how poorly things had turned out when they recorded, which is too bad because this would have been a great time to address the issue and take back the narrative.
Lastly and slightly unrelated, I cannot tell you how much I enjoyed the adaptation of Little Fires Everywhere on Hulu. I loved that book and always get a little nervous about adaptations, but they did such an amazing job addressing all the messages in the story. And honestly, it might be the best work I?ve ever seen from both Reese and Kerry Washington. I know they?re talking sequel but I kind of hope they don?t. I?m sure they will do a nice job with whatever they create (the book does not have a sequel) but I feel like some of the questions brought up in the story need to be left unanswered for the reader/viewer to decide.

In this week?s Gossip with Celebitchy podcast, CB and I went off a minor tangent about Reese Witherspoon and her successful rebrand following her April 2013 arrest for drunk & disorderly. Reese was in Georgia with her husband Jim Toth, and he was drunk driver. While the Georgia cop was trying to handcuff Toth and inform him of his rights, Reese who was a passenger in the car and drunk as hell left the car to drunkenly badger the cop. She?s been hosting Instagram Live interviews and chats, posting a lot on social media, donating Draper James clothes to medical workers and trying to keep morale up during the lockdown. Here are some photos from last night?s New York premiere of The Morning Show, the Apple+ show about, you got it, a morning show. Jennifer Aniston and Reese Witherspoon were in New York all day doing press on Monday, and it?s clear that Apple really wants these two women to be the ?faces? of the Apple+ launch (which happens on Friday). Entertainment journalists have already gotten to see the first few episodes and the reviews are good-to-mixed. Something that?s been bugging me which a few critics have pointed out already is that Aniston?s morning show anchor is supposed to be the aging diva and Reese is supposed to be the younger upstart, All About Eve-style. But in real life and on camera, it?s clear that the age difference is negligible (about seven years). Which makes me wonder if the show is actually sort of miscast.
Anyway, the premiere. Jennifer wore a black James Galanos gown in a different kind of high-neckline style than we?re used to seeing from her. She looks refreshed, but not obviously so. Whatever she?s getting done and it is something it?s good, expensive work. Reese is wearing Celine by Hedi Slimane. We?ve seen her in different versions of that dress for decades. I?m including bonus pics of Mark Duplass (who is in the show) and Wendy Williams.

Excepting certain entitled behavior from her past, I actually like Reese Witherspoon. Maybe it?s because I?ve loved so many movies of hers, I don?t know, but I dig her. However, I have never identified with her more than I did in her latest Instagram post. Reese posted this video in which she enlists the help of her 15-year-old son, Deacon Phillippe, to teach her about the social media app, TikTok. Deacon agrees, and Reese attempts a video of her own, which causes Deacon to end her TikTok career before it began:

Big Little Lies 2 premieres on June 9th, and I assumed that was what Reese Witherspoon was promoting in this feature in Allure. But she doesn?t mention Big Little Lies 2. She does mention ?I?m so Southern Y?ALL? in the second sentence of the interview and I?m just like? do we really have to do this, Reese? I?m from the South too and I don?t have to drop it into every single conversation as some kind of ?pass? for why I?m a tacky ahole. I would argue that I would have been a tacky ahole even if I had grown up in Oregon. So what?s Reese?s excuse? Sorry, it just makes me mad when Reese thinks she has to ?perform? her Southerness. It?s a recent thing for her too, it?s part of her celebrity-brand in the past five years. Before then, she barely talked about the South. Anyway, some highlights from this Allure interview:
Her best makeup tutorial: My makeup artist, Molly R. Stern, taught me how to put on fake eyelashes. She hates that I put on a full strip, but Im from the South ? I love a good ol-fashioned drugstore strip lash. I pop it on, put a little liquid liner over it, and I feel like my eyes look more open. I made a mess the first time, but then Molly showed me how to make it better. Always put liquid eyeliner over it.
Her biggest beauty regret: In the 90s, we plucked our brows really thin. I said we ? at least I did. And it just looked awful. Thank God, they grew back, but, I mean, who knows what they might look like now if I hadn?t plucked them into oblivion!
The never-again lipstick color: Brown. Like, dark brown. It looked terrible, and it was immortalized on my drivers license photo when I was 16 years old.
Her secret for the perfect not-too-yellow, not-too-white blonde: Her names Lorri Goddard. Shes been my colorist for 15 years and has taken me from blonde to red to brown, back to blonde. Shes meticulous about the balayage process and puts oil on the roots and tips so they dont break. But it takes three hours to have my highlights done, no joke. I go every seven or eight weeks. Im starting to get gray around the edges of my hairline. Lorri doesnt like to call them grays, though. She says theyre hyper-blondes.
Her vitamin regimen: Prenatals. One of my girlfriends told me she takes them even though shes not pregnant, so now I do, too. It makes my hair look better.
Why she enjoys aging: I have a point of view because Ive been on this planet for 43 years, and I didnt feel that same way when I was 25. I didnt have the same things to say. Im 43 and Ive had a whole bunch of experiences, and I can speak with a thoughtfulness about the changes Id like to see in the world, andI just feel like I earned that gray hair and my fine lines. I like em. I so prefer 43 to 25.
The last product she finished: Probably bath salts. I mix the Goop ones with plain Epsom salts. Ive been taking a bath every night for the past four years. Its changed the way I sleep and the way I feel when I wake up ? takes away all aches and pains. I also read so many books in the bath. Theyre the antidote to self-involvement. Escaping to a different world and thinking about other peoples realities is really therapeutic for me.

I?m closer to 43 than 25 and let me tell you? even though my 25 sucked at the time, I would take that over what is happening to me now. I didn?t know how lucky I was back then with my 25-year-old knees and feet and shoulders. Whenever someone in their 40s is like ?I prefer this to my 20s,? I?m always like ?bitch, you lie.? I guess we have to say something positive about it though, it?s not like we can change it. As for what she says about blonde and grey hair? I thought the ?hyper-blonde? euphemism was funny, and I agree, her colorist knows her sh-t. Reese has always had a great blonde.

Big Little Lies 2 premieres on HBO two Sundays from now. Get hyped! Or whatever. I?m probably going to watch it but I have questions about what this second season is really going to accomplish. Last night, the ladies of BLL did a big premiere event in New York, and? it was nice. It wasn?t the best fashion event of the year or anything, but most of the ladies looked okay. Reese Witherspoon wore this Elie Saab cocktail dress which I love she looks so good in simple, unfussy silhouettes and a good graphic print. The biggest issue here is that Reese looks like she got some sun recently not a complete fake tan, and my guess is that she was by the pool too long or something.
Nicole Kidman in Michael Kors, with feathered sleeves! Keith Urban was there to support her too. I sort of like this?
Shailene Woodley in Dior OMFG. What is this?? Are these culottes? SHEER CULOTTES? With granny panties, point desprit sheer sleeves AND a bow. My lord, Dior just threw every bad design trick into one ensemble and gave it to Shailene.
Meryl Streep wore Oscar de la Renta, but this does not look like a recent ODLR. It looks like something that?s been in her closet since the ?80s.
Zoe Kravitz looking insanely pretty in Saint Laurent. I love her hair these days I?m so happy she?s no longer blonde.
Laura Dern in Saint Laurent. Blah, Nicole?s suit is so much better.
And Alex Skarsgard came out! I think he?s actually in BLL2, in flashbacks and videos that the kids are watching. He also looks like he was sitting by the pool with Reese did they both just come back from a sunny vacation?

Reese Witherspoons daughter Ava Phillippe, 19, graduated from high school last summer and is currently at Stanford University studying English Literature. Weve seen her on the red carpet with her mom looking glamorous and poised. It turns out that shes an expert at makeup, like so many other teen girls. Reese told People Magazine that she often gets Ava to do her makeup for events and that by the age of 17 Ava knew how to do a perfect look. Reese has a new collaboration with Elizabeth Arden and thats why shes talking about makeup.
?I learn a lot from my daughter [about makeup],? says Witherspoon, revealing that Ava honed her skills by watching YouTube tutorials. ?Her understanding of how to apply it is so extensive.?
Witherspoon adds that Ava?s application techniques are especially solid when it comes to eyeshadow and highlighter.
?If I have to do my makeup for a dinner or something, I?ll be like, ?Ava, can you fix my eyeshadow? I can?t remember what goes in the crease,? because she has this intense knowledge about how to shade. It?s crazy.?
?She [also] taught me how to put highlighter on my brow bones and the top of my cheekbones. I really liked the way it looked, so now it?s just become part of my makeup routine.?
Witherspoon says her look-a-like daughter has been a pro of sorts for a couple of years. ?She knew how to do a beautiful red carpet look by the time she was 17 years old.?

I have a friend who doesnt wear makeup and who has talked about it like women who cant go out without it are insecure. (Not Kaiser!) She has a teenaged daughter who is always perfectly made up to the point where you want to ask her for tips. I know several friends who have teenage daughters who look amazing like that and they learned it on YouTube. Ive watched those same videos, Ive read makeup addiction, I have the high end products and I cant quite get it. I look much better with makeup and dont go out without it, but Im only 80% of the way there and need to improve. I have contouring sort-of right, but getting my eyeshadow blended and getting my eyebrows right is hard! (Ive bought Anastasia dip brow and watched tutorials but I end up using powdered eyebrow filler as I cant get the gel to look right.) Highlighting is easy for me though. I have liquid highlighter and just put a little line on my cheekbones and to the right side of my eyes.

Is anyone else completely baffled by the AT&T/Time Warner deal? I keep reading that people say it?s purely a content/distribution deal but then the next news articles says it will absolutely affect our cable and satellite packages. All I know is most subscribers are nervous about it. One person who is excited is Reese Witherspoon who has successfully turned her production company, Hello Sunshine, into a real power player within the industry. Reese, who is supposedly still set to star with Jennifer Aniston in Apples first series, has just announced she will host a weekly chat show for AT&T called Shine on With Reese. True to her mission with Hello Sunshine, the show will focus on driven and ambitious women and their path to success.
Reese Witherspoon is entering the unscripted territory with a new interview show for AT&T, the company announced on Tuesday.
Witherspoon is the host of ?Shine on With Reese,? a weekly interview show examining the stories of trailblazing women. Among the guests set to appear are singers Dolly Parton, Pink and Kacey Musgraves; Sprinkles founder Candace Nelson; poet Cleo Wade; ?Superstore? actress America Ferrara; and author/activist Glennon Doyle.
?I am thrilled to have such like-minded, creative collaborators at AT&T to help Hello Sunshine pursue our mission of elevating and showcasing the voices of women that we have such admiration and respect for,? According to the article, the show will air on a brand new, on-demand channel that will be women-centric and fly under the Hello Sunshine banner. I don?t know, I find the idea of a major media house fully endorsing women-centric content among their first big announcements kind of exciting. It might be a baby step, but at least it?s one in the right direction.
In the interest of optimism, which is in sparse supply these days, I won?t start nitpicking this idea? not too much, at least. Looking at the guest sampling listed, aside from America and Cleo, it?s pretty monochromatic. But, it is only a sampling. I really hope this has a true cross section of all women. On a completely personal note, I like Reese as an actress, but I don?t find her interesting in interviews. I?m having trouble getting excited about her as an interview host. It a skill that not many people have. I hope she has Oprah on speed dial.
