The Human Artistry Campaign is an organization that seeks to thread the impossibly tight needle of developing and using AI responsibly. As they put it, ?in support of human creativity & accomplishment.? I?m still up on my high horse wishing the whole thing away entirely, but HAC offers seven core principles for AI applications, and even I will admit that they are well thought out. All seven recognize human achievement above machine-generated products, and they get very specific on outlining copyright parameters. Things like, copyrights should only be granted to human-made works or intellectual property, governments should not give AI companies any kind of exceptions, and, as we cover here often, AI companies should never be able to use copyrighted works without permission from and compensation for the creators. So HAC launched a new campaign last week that over 700 artists have already signed on to support, including Scarlett Johansson and Cate Blanchett. The name of the campaign really says it all: ?Stealing Isn?t Innovation.? Hear hear!
The ?Stealing Isn?t Innovation? campaign from the Human Artistry Campaign, which launches Thursday, protests tech companies? alleged mass theft of human-created works in order to produce tools that could theoretically compete with real creatives.
On Thursday, the Human Artistry Campaign debuted the awareness campaign and revealed more than 700 supporters behind it, while The New York Times ran an ad for the push.
?Big Tech is trying to change the law so they can keep stealing American artistry to build their AI businesses ? without authorization and without paying the people who did the work. That is wrong; it?s un-American, and it?s theft on a grand scale,? one of the campaign?s message proclaims. ?The following creators all agree. Do you? If so, come join us.?
In addition to Johansson, Blanchett and Gordon-Levitt, industry figures David Lowery, Fran Drescher, Jennifer Hudson, Kristen Bell, Michele Mulroney, Olivia Munn, Sean Astin and Vince Gilligan all signed their names as backing the campaign. Musicians such as Cyndi Lauper, LeAnn Rimes, Martina McBride and Questlove and the groups MGMT, One Republic, R.E.M. and OK Go have also given their support, as did the authors George Saunders, Jodi Picoult, Roxanne Gay and Jonathan Franzen.
The Human Artistry Campaign is composed of a mix of unions representing creators, artists? rights groups and trade associations like the Writers Guild of America, the Recording Industry Association of America, The NewsGuild, the NFL Players Association and SAG-AFTRA.
The organization encourages tech companies to license works and also to allow creators to opt out of their projects being subject to generative AI training.
?Real innovation comes from the human motivation to change our lives. It moves opportunity forward while driving economic growth and creating jobs,? Human Artistry Campaign senior advisor Dr. Moiya McTier said in a statement. ?But AI companies are endangering artists? careers while exploiting their practiced craft, using human art and other creative works without authorization to amass billions in corporate earnings.?
McTier added, ?America wins when technology companies and creators collaborate to make the highest quality consumer and enterprise digital products and tools. Solutions like licensing offer a path to a mutually beneficial outcome for all.?
[From The Hollywood Reporter]
No surprise that Scarlett Johansson got behind this campaign, as she?s had to fight back multiple times over AI companies using her name & likeness without permission. Even when Sam Altman wanted her to be the voice of ChatGPT 4.0 and went about it the right way, by asking her first, they went ahead and obviously imitated ripped off her voice after she very clearly rejected their offer. These AI companies are so untrustworthy! Licensing deals are most likely the best way forward, but I have no doubt the tech bros will still find ways to play unfair. And for what? For getting celeb endorsements or using high quality creative works, but cutting out the actual human beings from consent and compensation? Or just so people can waste a few hours to make videos using material that other people labored over? I?d call it an asinine hobby, except there?s the potential for dangerous misinformation. Say, in the baby-fisted bigly-bruised hands of a mentally ill fascist.

Overall, I?m happy with this year?s Oscar nominations. The supporting categories are elite, two of the best lineups we?ve ever gotten. My two biggest complaints with this year?s noms: I think Chase Infiniti got snubbed in Best Actress for One Battle, and I think Jesse Plemons deserved a nomination for Bugonia, especially given that the film was nominated in Best Picture and Emma Stone got nominated. Plemons gave just as much of a stellar, knife?s edge, bonkers performance as Stone. Still, with Plemons? exclusion, it?s kind of hard to argue with this year?s Best Actor lineup: Michael B. Jordan (Sinners), Timothee Chalamet (Marty Supreme), Leonardo DiCaprio (OBAA), Ethan Hawke (Blue Moon) and Wagner Moura (The Secret Agent). Well, Kirsten Dunst looked at that lineup and decided to complain that her husband should have been included. I mean? that?s her man, of course she?s going to say something.
Kirsten Dunst isnt totally thrilled with this years batch of Oscar nominations. The Marie Antoinette actress shared a pair of posts praising her husband, Jesse Plemons, for his work in Bugonia to lament the Academy overlooking his performance in the film.
Dunst first reposted an Instagram Story from one of Plemons Bugonia costars, comedian Stavros Halkias, that showed him with a stern look on his face and a photoshopped hand pointing a gun at the camera. Its caption read, Me to everyone who didnt nominate Jesse Plemmons [sic] for Best Actor tho.
The Spider-Man star also shared a video post from the Bluff Council podcast that featured cohost Ev Durn showering Plemons with praise and declaring that Timothe Chalamets latest Oscar-nominated portrayal doesnt stack up against the Friday Night Lights alums work.
Jesse Plemons gives one of the greatest performances of all time, Duran says in the video. Jesse Plemons in this film gives [a] Daniel Day-Lewis?, Sidney Poitier?level transcendent performance that I worry is being completely overlooked for fin Chalamets Marty Supreme, which was a very good performance, but wasnt ? what Plemons does in this movie is beyond.
Before the Oscar nominations were announced, Dunst shared a still of Plemons in Bugonia on Jan. 9. Some top-level s, she wrote in her Instagram caption.
[From EW]
That?s all she posted, just praise for her husband. She didn?t single out any of the nominees, she didn?t argue that this guy or that guy should not have been nominated to ensure Jesse?s nomination. But her posts caused this weird meltdown among Timothee Chalamet?s fans, who tried to ?cancel? Dunst because they believed she was coming for their man. They?re really telling on themselves, right? How do they go from ?Plemons should have been nominated? to ?Chalamet doesn?t deserve HIS nomination?? Look at the line-up again who is the weakest link? Arguably Ethan Hawke. But you don?t see Hawke?s fans beefing with Kiki.

| | Page Six lied about the Sussexes' crowd at the 'Cookie Queens' Sundance screening | | Added 34 hours ago | Source: CeleBitchy |

On Saturday night, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex attended the first Sundance Film Festival premiere event for Cookie Queens, the documentary they executive produced about Girl Scout Cookies and the girls who sell them. On Sunday morning, Harry and Meghan were back in action, attending an early-morning premiere at Sundance. Meghan even spoke ahead of the screening, and she and Harry chatted with some of the entertainment reporters at the early-morning ?red carpet.? More on that in a moment. Soon after the Sunday morning screening, Page Six bizarrely claimed that the screening was poorly attended, and that the half-empty theater was just further evidence of the Sussexes? declining popularity:
The Sussexes couldn?t sell out Sundance. Although Prince Harry and Meghan Markle attended the Park City, Utah, bow of the new documentary they produced, ?Cookie Queens,? Sunday morning, there were plenty of open seats at the Eccles Theatre.
As the film began, roughly 150 unoccupied spots remained in the balcony, plus some scattered chairs on the ground. That number ultimately tightened to about 60, as lucky wait-listers slowly filled empty places reserved for high-paying pass-holders (the coveted express badge costs $6,900), who mostly passed on the visiting royals.
?Cookie Queens,? which was enthusiastically received by the Park City crowd, is an adorable heartwarmer that follows several precocious Girl Scouts from all over the US on their quest to sell as many cookie boxes as possible.
A ticket to a starry and exclusive Sundance screening is typically a hot commodity. They are extremely difficult to get into. In the same theater the night before, at the mobbed premiere of Olivia Wilde?s ?The Invite,? starring Seth Rogen, Penelope Cruz and Edward Norton, staff had to turn away about 100 actual ticket holders ? as seats there are not assigned.
In an uncommon move at Sundance for an executive producer, Markle, 44, spoke onstage before the film. She suggested the mountain town might be hungover from boozy Saturday parties. ?Thank you so much for being here bright and early,? she said. ?I know some of you probably had late nights last night, so extra thanks for the effort.?
Before the lights went down, Harry, 41, walked around hugging people who appeared to be involved with the film.
?My husband and I and Archewell Productions, we are so proud and privileged to be able to support and uplift ?Cookie Queens,?? the ?Suits? alum added.
[From Page Six]
So, all of this was a lie. It was picked up by Tom Sykes and some of the British outlets, because that was the whole purpose of Page Six?s lie. The Sunday morning screening was actually sold out, as were all of the other screenings. Page Six?s lie was so egregious, even Matthew Belloni Puck News? entertainment/media guy and a pretty big deal tweeted out the absurdity of the lie. It was also abundantly clear that the Sunday screening was well-attended by entertainment reporters Deadline, Variety and the Hollywood Reporter all sent their biggest reporters to the screening and they all got exclusive footage and/or comments from Meghan. Why did Page Six lie about something so easily proven false?
This is silly, it was a packed house at 9am for a documentary in the biggest theater? https://t.co/axvpe1SvVM

| | People: David & Victoria Beckham 'would take Brooklyn back in a minute' | | Added 34 hours ago | Source: CeleBitchy |

I?m not trying to get on my high horse about British-versus-American familial relationships (we?ve ALL got issues), but it does increasingly feel like it?s a very ?British thing? for a groom?s parents/family to trash the ever-loving sh-t out of the bride. Maybe it?s just happening in very high-profile situations, but there?s also a sense from the British media that their culture is simply all about ?a son must choose his parents over his wife in every situation, or else the parents lose their fking minds.? In the case of David and Victoria Beckham?s estrangement from their son Brooklyn, there has never really been an acknowledgement from D&V that, oh right, our eldest son is married and of course he?s going to take his wife?s side in family disputes. David and Victoria continue to blank on Nicola and treat her like she doesn?t exist to them. Last year, D&V even told Brooklyn that Nicola wasn?t welcome at David?s birthday. Well, People Magazine has an exclusive straight from Team Beckham. Check out what they are NOT saying about Nicola.
David and Victoria Beckham are prepared to welcome their son, Brooklyn, back into their lives anytime he wants to reunite with them, a source says.
Following Brooklyns bombshell Instagram post slamming his parents on Jan. 19 ? detailing what he claims is an ongoing attempt by his parents to sabotage his relationship with wife Nicola Peltz Beckham in the name of publicity ? a source tells PEOPLE that the couple does not want to lose their son and would accept him back into their lives whenever he wants to form a relationship again.
?They are afraid of losing their son and would take him back in a minute, says the source. They are a close family, too. Just in a different way than Nicola?s family is.
According to the source, the Beckhams ? who are also parents to sons Romeo, 23, and Cruz, 20, and daughter Harper, 14 ? were extremely upset after his Instagram post.
?They love Brooklyn and are horrified about everything,? the source says.
Reps for David and Victoria did not respond to PEOPLEs request for comment on the situation.
A second insider tells PEOPLE the Beckhams are hopeful that this strain between them will eventually end.
?David and Victoria believe time will heal this,? the source close the situation says. ?They know over time that Brooklyn will come back. They can?t really do anything until then.?
The insider also gave more insight on the day to day communication between the young couple and David and Victoria.
?Brooklyn and Nicola do not speak with David or Victoria,? the source says, adding that ?they speak only through mediators.
[From People]
Brooklyn could not have been any clearer about his hurt and anguish over how his parents have treated Nicola, how devastated he was when they wouldn?t even allow Nicola to come to see David for his birthday, and how he feels like they?re trying to make him choose between his birth family and his wife. Brooklyn has also been pretty clear that he believes he and Nicola deserve an apology for the way they?ve been treated. And now, after all of that, Victoria and David are still like ?we?re convinced Brooklyn will eventually come back to us!!? and ?we only want HIM, not his wife!? Again, you can believe that Brooklyn and Nicola are talentfree nepo babies, but they?ve been married for almost four years, and the way his parents treat Nicola and her existence as his wife is appalling. The more D&V push these stories, the more we can see why Brooklyn felt the need to post those IG Stories.
