I was never really a fan of Julianne Hough when it felt like everyone was trying to make her into a thing several years back. She left Dancing with the Stars and tried to become a movie star and professional pop star (I guess?). It did not stick. And so she spent a few years being more low-key and rejiggering her career strategy. She kept her head down. She got a cute haircut. She got engaged to a hottie. And soon she?ll be promoting her role in Dirty Grandpa, plus she?s going to be playing Sandy in Fox?s Grease: Live event on January 31. So? that?s why she?s on the cover of Cosmopolitan?s February issue. For those projects. And it feels like she?s creeping back to that place where she?s trying to be a major celebrity/name again. Some highlights from Cosmo:
On not wanting to be known for the very thing that propelled her to superstardom: ?If someone told me they hadn?t seen Dancing With the Stars, I would say, ?Oh, good!? Everything I was getting was amazing, but I felt like, I?m so much more than this. I want to be respected as a singer and an actress.?
On how she met fianc Brooks Laich through her friend Teddy Sears: ?I did a horror movie that never got released. I?m convinced the only reason I was meant to do that movie was to meet my fianc. Six years prior, Teddy Sears, my costar, tried to invite Brooks?who was a good friend of his?to visit him in L.A. Brooks, who knows nothing about pop culture, joked, ?What are you going to do?hook me up with that Juicy Fruit starlet?? He?d seen the commercial and was like, ?Where do I meet a girl like that?? I was the girl in the commercial! Teddy remembered that comment and texted Brooks, ?You?re never going to guess who I?m doing a movie with.??
On her long distance relationship and whether she and her fianc have phone sex: ?Oh, for sure. But I?m really bad at it?I?ll get halfway through and start laughing. It?s an art. I applaud people who are good at it. They need to come and help me keep a straight face!?
On going through a break-up in the public eye (with Ryan Seacrest): ?I definitely hated that everyone had an opinion about what I was going through. At the time, I was constantly running and touring, which sometimes looked like I was totally fine and couldn?t care less, which wasn?t the truth. But it was my form of being able to deal.?
[From Cosmopolitan]
Oh, Julianne. You had been doing so well for so long and now I think I?m back to disliking you. She certainly thinks she?s already some huge star and that we were obsessed with her breakup and that we?re all just waiting to accept her as a movie star and singer, right? Not so much. She?ll always be the chick from Dancing with the Stars who showmanced Ryan Seacrest. IF THAT. As for her story about meeting Brooks? have you guys ever seen Teddy Sears? He?s incredibly handsome and a very talented actor. I can?t believe Teddy Sears was the one to set up Julianne Hough and Brooks Laich.

| Julianne Hough finally flashes her 5-carat, oval-cut engagement ring: fab or fug? | Added 9 years ago | Source: CeleBitchy |

Have I mentioned recently that Julianne Hough is a lucky, lucky girl? She really is. Last week, Julianne announced her engagement to a certified hottie, pro hockey player Brooks Laich. While she never hid the relationship and she seemed to announce the engagement as soon as it happened, she was playing coy about the engagement ring. But now, finally, she?s showing off her ring. OMG. SO BIG. And it doesn?t look like a quartz! While I think something is a little bit ?off? about the setting, the diamond itself is really beautiful. Here?s Julianne?s close-up:
According to People Magazine, Brooks went to Lorraine Schwartz and picked out the oval-shaped, over-5-carat diamond himself. He wanted ?the most perfect diamond? Schwartz could find and they worked for ?months? to make the perfect ring. In case you?re in the midst of some kind of celebrity-engagement-ring dj vu, I felt the same way. You know why? Because Julianne?s ring looks A LOT like the engagement ring Ryan Reynolds gave Blake Lively, only Blake?s diamond was bigger (7 carats) and a Pink diamond. But otherwise, very similar setting, similar oval cut, similar pave diamonds in the setting.
When Julianne posted the ?ring photos? yesterday on her website, she also posted her engagement story. She sounds a little bit extra here, but I think she?s really just giddy and happy.
Although I knew Brooks was the one the day I met him, I had no idea what to expect as far as when and how he?d pop the question. Well? let me tell you guys, it was magical and sweet. We were at home, romantic and relaxed, which is perfectly very ?us.? We stood on the deck, watching the sun set over the lake and listening to our favorite songs. Not even for a second did I expect that beautiful, serene scene was about to become one of the most meaningful moments of our lives. In fact, I was so taken aback when Brooks got down on one knee I completely blacked out! It was like a rush of heat and a wave of uncontrollable emotion swept right through my body. I didn?t have any words at first (me! no words!). All I could do was explode into his arms and experience pure joy from head to toe.
Being engaged didn?t truly hit me until I started saying ?fianc? out loud. ?My fianc loves that song. Let me check my fianc?s schedule. Have you met my fianc?? It?s crazy! I have to say, being engaged actually does feel different. There is a sense of strength in us, a feeling of being further grounded but most of all, it just makes me really giddy!
The ring itself makes me feel very feminine and takes my breath away every time I look down, which I can?t stop doing, by the way. When it comes to taking it off, forget it. I?ll even wake up in the middle of the night to make sure it?s still there! I never thought I?d be the girl sticking her hand out to her friends and screaming in unison but here I am, shrieking all over Los Angeles.
Getting engaged has been about much more than the engagement itself. The rush of love from friends and family, plus the support from all of you has been overwhelming. The love being poured into this next step of our relationship is incredible, and I?m so very grateful.
[From Julianne?s website]
I honestly prefer this kind of openness and ?here is my engagement story in my own words,? as opposed to strategically leaking details from ?sources? to People Magazine. This feels more authentic, like she?s not even pretending to be cool and aloof. She?s thrilled that she?s engaged, and she has every right to be joyful and excited.

I honestly didn?t even know that Julianne Hough had a serious boyfriend, but she does and he just proposed to her. Julianne posted an Instagram (below) confirming her engagement to Washington Capitals hockey player Books Laich. Is it rude to say something about her fianc being HOT AS HELL? Brooks Laich is gorgeous. This is my type ? somewhat scruffy, tall, very fair, light eyes, eye crinkles. If I was building a boyfriend with an ideal physical type, the guy would look a lot like this. How in the world did Julianne Hough date someone like Ryan Seacrest and then end up with a gorgeous hockey player? Anyway, here?s her engagement announcement:
We are overwhelmed with joy and excitement to share with you our recent engagement! #fianc #love

| Julianne Hough admits she was 'dumb' for wearing blackface for Halloween | Added 9 years ago | Source: CeleBitchy |

Julianne Hough covers the April issue of Allure because, yes, people are still trying to make Julianne Hough happen. I thought that attempt was over more than a year ago, but here we are, with Julianne covering yet another magazine cover for very little reason (I think she?s promoting her judge role on Dancing With the Stars?!). I?m covering this because Julianne actually gave a couple of half-decent quotes about some somewhat interesting subjects, namely her breakup with Ryan Seacrest (I would love it if she really dished about Seacrest, but she does not), Mormonism (she was raised Church of LDS), and most importantly, she admits that she was really, really stupid to wear blackface as part of her Halloween costume in 2013. You can see the Allure slideshow here. Some highlights:
Her short hair is because of Ryan Seacrest: “A little while after, when I cut ties with my relationship. I chopped more. It was about changing it up and beginning fresh?in the movie but in real life, also.”
She?s dating hockey player Brooks Laich, but she still runs into Seacrest: “It’s hard not to?he’s everywhere.?
She begins each day by reciting her “power virtues?: “A power virtue is who you want to be. I say the words, ‘I am’ beforehand? ?I am determined,? ?I am passionate,? ?I am grateful,? and ?I am love.??
Mormonism: ?I am so grateful that I was raised LDS. I believe in their morals and their standards?and what they give out to the world, the service. I would do a mission, but not for the Mormon church.?
On her blackface Halloween costume: ?Ignorance is sometimes not bliss; I really had no idea what I was doing, and it was all out of fun and respect for the character. I don?t even know how to talk about it because it?s such a sensitive topic. It makes me so sad to think that I was that dumb. I learned a big lesson.?
Returning to DWTS: “The fact that I can go back and judge and still pursue other avenues?it’s a win-win for me.?
[From Allure]
I have to give her some credit, because she handled the PR crisis of the blackface controversy pretty well. She gave a complete apology immediately and then she actually ?went away? and let people forget about it for several months. And even now, a year and a half later, she?s still eating sh-t for it (justifiably) and taking it on the chin. But that?s what we want people to say when they?ve made a mistake, right? ?It makes me so sad to think that I was that dumb. I learned a big lesson.? Thank you, Julianne Hough. Thank you for showing the dumb starlets how to manage a crisis with some kind of grace.

| Julianne Hough launches lifestyle website Jules: goop-esque or accessible? | Added 9 years ago | Source: CeleBitchy |

I’ll admit that when I saw the news at E! Online that Julianne Hough has a new lifestyle website, I rolled my eyes. I’m used to celebrities like Gwyneth Paltrow and Blake Lively trying to impress us with their overpriced tchotchkes and purple prose. When celebrities launch websites there are exceptions to the haughty rule, like Zooey Deschanel’s Hello Giggles (which is a pop culture and news site, not a lifestyle site) but overall they’re more like Olivia Palermo’s self-named site, a glossy tribute to high end fashion and luxury goods.
Julianne Hough’s new site, Jules, is kind of sweet, though. It’s more of a pinterest-type site with quick tips and advice. After I read a few entries I found myself warming to her. Her blog entries are short, upbeat and simple. There’s nothing groundbreaking there, we have the whole internet full of free advice and tutorials after all, but it’s a nice view of her outlook and lifestyle. She seems relatable, incredibly nice and earnest to a fault. Here’s what she wrote in her intro entry and it’s a little goofy.
Welcome to my cozy little corner on the World Wide Web! I wanted to design a space where I could connect with fans and friends about the things I?m most passionate about, and I wanted to be able to hear from all of you. This is a place where we can share recipes, workout tips, talk about style, beauty and home dcor. I?m especially excited to talk to you guys about things that matter most, like ways we can all be rock stars in our communities and tips to become the best versions of ourselves.
This is a place for all of us, sort of like a fun digital neighborhood, and it?s important to me to hear from you. So, what do YOU want to see on my site? Let?s create something amazing together!
xoxo
Jules
[From JulianneHough.com]
The blog has a total of 11 posts so far, which isn’t bad for a launch. She has quick advice from her trainer on getting fit on the go, directions for a messy braid (I can’t believe she can do that so well with a bob) and her resolutions for the new year, which include eating out less and carving out more free time for herself. So far she’s not selling us anything (she does show a preference for a brand of candle but IDK), which is a welcome change from the Olivia Palermos and Goops we’re used to. She’s just kind of connecting to her fans and letting people know what works for her. I can’t help it, I like it.
Over the weekend I looked for interviews with Marianne Keyes, a very popular Irish women’s lit author, as I’m currently reading my second of her many funny, relatable books. (Maybe we’ll get the CB book club started up again now that awards season has wrapped. I’m reading Rachel’s Holiday and just finished Watermelon.) I found a series of interviews between Keyes and beauty writer Sali Hughes. They start off in Keyes’s bathroom (this is a thing that Hughes does with celebrities) and discuss her beauty regimen and then go over her product drawer. It’s not everyone’s thing, but I was totally delighted to listen to them discuss makeup and skincare. The best part was when they went into Keye’s shoe closet and picked over her shoes. I guess my rambling point is that it’s fun to see what celebrities think about superficial, frivolous things, as long as they’re genuine and real.
Look at Hough’s puppies! Those look like Cavalier King Charles Spaniels but not quite. I wonder what breed they are. So cute.

Taking a break from the judging table, Julianne Hough stepped out in New York City on Thursday afternoon (October 16).
Looking radiant and chic, the 26-year-old performer stopped by Sirius Radio, ?Good Morning America? and ?Live with Kelly and Michael!? to chat about the current season of ?Dancing with the Stars.?
In the meantime, Hough opened up to ABC about her start on the dancing competition, which led to her rise to fame and said, ?I?m so eternally grateful for the show? I never want to discredit that.?
As for the show itself, Julianne said, ?It?s wholesome, it?s fun, it?s about moving and feeling good.?
?To be part of something like Dancing with the Stars for the rest of my life is pretty cool,? she added.
