Julianne Hough covers the September issue of Shape Magazine, I think to promote her line of athletic clothes, which she’s been papped out in seemingly once a week this entire summer. She’s in phenomenal shape with great abs and has been getting a lot of coverage for that reason particularly. In Shape, Hough talks about her approach to fitness, diet and leisure. She sounds very honest about her fitness routine and diet, which is healthy for the most part with some occasional indulgences. Hough reminds me of Kate Hudson in that way. Kate will also explain how she maintains a healthy lifestyle by putting the work in every day.
On reminding herself that strong is better than skinny:
?I love my shape because I feel strong and fit, and that makes me feel confident. When I look at pictures of myself when I was 19, my body was bangin?, but I was killing myself. I was working out two and a half hours a day and eating the bare minimum to survive. I was so miserable. I wasn?t healthy. To be honest, I looked like a kid. Now I?m embracing the fact that I?m a woman with curves.?
On discovering a routine that she loves:
?I exercise three to six times a week, but usually I do five days of hard-core training. On Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, I do Tracy Anderson or Body by Simone or I work out with my trainer, Astrid Swan. Tuesdays and Thursdays, I do Core Power Yoga, which I love. If I?m doing something special, like shooting the SHAPE cover, or when I want to tone up quickly, I?ll also take a SoulCycle class. Saturdays, I go on a really long hike with my friends or take another yoga class, depending on how I feel. Sunday is my reboot day. I try to eat healthy and do something outside like walk my dogs. I relax, enjoy the day and get mentally and spiritually prepared for the week. It gets me excited for what?s ahead.?
On finding ways to sweat with her friends:
?I love going to classes with my girlfriends [actresses Nina Dobrev and Sarah Hyland are two of her closest]. We?ll call each other or send a group text and organize. Sometimes we sign up for Spartan races and have a blast. Last fall we took a girls? trip to Mexico. I had just finished a dancing tour with my brother, Derek, and was super motivated and working out like crazy. My friends asked me to teach a class one of the days we were on the trip, and I said, ?One day? I?ll do it every day!? So rather than drink tequila shots and get crazy, we turned it into a healthy trip. Every morning, we got up and I taught an hourlong mix of Tracy Anderson, Body by Simone, and yoga moves. Then we?d put on our swimsuits and go to the beach or the pool. Don?t get me wrong: We definitely enjoyed cocktails and chips and salsa while we were there, but after our daily workouts we always felt much better about ourselves.?
On making room for cheat days, too:
?E! News recently posted a picture of me coming out of the gym, and there were all these comments about the photo, like, ?We could have abs like this, but we love pizza too much.? I started laughing because pizza is my favorite food. I eat it a lot! I want everyone to know that I?m not Miss Perfect. You can cheat every once in a while, and that?s OK. You can still have a fit body as long as you work out regularly and eat relatively healthfully throughout your life.?
On her exercise inspiration
?If I have a really cute outfit on when I exercise, it inspires me to work harder. I want those clothes to look good on my body.?
On dressing for success:
?I started designing my athleisure line because I?m a believer in a fit lifestyle. I wanted to make clothes that are cute to work out in and that you can also go about your day in?picking up the kids, going to a meeting, getting groceries, whatever. The line makes you want to be active.?

Shape also has a “behind the scenes” video and brief interview with Hough. She had some good things to say there as well about her health philosophy, which she says is “about your mind” as much as it is “about your body. When I have a clear head, that’s when I feel like I’m healthy.” She also said that she works out for her “future self” and that she wants to be healthy for the every phase of her life. It’s all quite practical and she gives decent advice for the most part.
As for her fitnesswear line, I never understood or embraced the trend of wearing your gym clothes the entire day. I prefer to shower and change after I work out, but a lot of women just dress for a workout all day and I get that this is socially acceptable in the US. (And in Australia, judging from this parody video.)

Here is Julianne Hough stepping outside a gym in Los Angeles on Wednesday, flaunting her killer physique in a sports bra and grey leggings, ET reports.
The Dancing With the Stars pro has always been upfront with how hard she works to stay in shape ? even going so far as to use furniture in her hotel room when she’s traveling so she never misses a workout.
It’s nice to see average women working out.

I don’t get the whole “althleisure” trend, I was wearing sweatpants out to the store before it was cool. But I do like seeing hotties walking around in skintight spandex, so I’m not complaining. Anyway, according to my sources, Julianne Hough‘s a “fashion designer” now, and here she is out in LA showing off some […]

I’m still not clear onwhyJulianne Hough made a “personal appearance” at some random Lord & Taylor in New York, maybe she had to go shopping for her aunt? But after checking out the pictures, I do know why it drew a crowd and a whole bunch of photographers… Julianne’s tight bodyin a tight dress always […]

here are Julianne Hough, her three sisters, and her mom are having an extremely hardcore vacation right now in Mexico, as evidenced by some recent photos that show a couple of them yakking off the side of a boat. My ladies, what happens in Cabo literally never stays in Cabo.
She looked in fine form as she flaunted almost every inch of her dancing-honed figure in a cream crochet two-piece which comprised halter-style crop top and matching tie-side bottoms.

I love King Cavalier Charles Spaniels. They have such grumpy little faces! Julianne Hough has two Cavaliers, I?m pretty sure. They feature quite heavily on her Instagram, and now one of them has made it to the cover of Redbook! GrumpyFace Puppy is a MODEL! Honestly, I would have preferred if this post had just been about the dog, but let?s go ahead and talk about Julianne. She?s currently promoting Dirty Grandpa (which was slammed by critics and audiences) and? she?s getting into the side-business thing. She?s doing a lifestyle website and an athletic-wear line. So, a little bit of Goop and a little bit of Kate Hudson. Some highlights from the interview:
Why she’s no longer afraid to tell it like it is: “When I was 21, I did and said things because I wanted to be accepted. But there’s a point where you grow up. Now I’m much more honest with myself and other people.”
Why she lets her fianc Brooks Laich be her “leading man”: “Because of the nature of my career, it’s very easy for me to call the shots and ‘be the man.’ So it’s very nice to feel like a strong woman and still have my man be my leading man.”
On embracing the good and bad times: “I’ve always been positive. But trust me, I have my days when I just break down and cry?and I don’t even know why I’m crying! I’m all about embracing those times, too. If you never feel sad about anything, there’s nothing dynamic to life?and that’s boring.”
On learning to live life and love what you do: “A director once told me, ‘I’m getting too old for this s–t, so I only want to work with people who are going to make it fun.’ That’s true. Life’s too short. I’m not going to bust my butt on a movie just because it’s better for my career if it’s going to make me miserable.”
[From Redbook]
?I’m not going to bust my butt on a movie just because it’s better for my career if it’s going to make me miserable? ? I?m not sure what this means? She?s not going to take roles in movies that aren?t ?fun?? She?s not going to work just to work? Whatever she?s trying to say, the result is that she sounds sort of out-of-touch. Millions of people don?t have a choice about being ?miserable? on their jobs, you know? Plus, it’s not like Hollywood is breaking down her door, offering her great roles. She’s at a point in her career where she pretty much has to take whatever she’s offered.
As for the ?be the man? thing? the entrenched gender stereotypes will get you every time. I understand what she?s trying to say, but she said it poorly.

Julianne Hough is preparing for her role as Sandy in Fox?s Grease: Live, for which Olivia Newton John gave her her blessing, and an as-yet unplanned wedding to Brooks Laich. She also appears as Zac Efron’s character’s fiance in Dirty Grandpa, the ?Why DeNiro???? ribald comedy coming out next week. In the meantime, Julianne has collaborated on a Spring/Summer workout line with MPG Sport. To promote this, Julianne recently spoke to New York Magazine?s The Cut about her diet and – wait for it – working out:
How I start my day: Right now, because I?m rehearsing for Grease, I wake up at 6 a.m. I take my dogs outside and walk around a bit and let them go potty, then have a juice or a half a protein bar, like a Perfect Bar. I don?t eat a terribly big breakfast because I don?t like to be too full when I go work out. I also don’t like to get too comfortable before I go work out, or I don?t want to go. When I get home, I steam eggs in the pan and have some avocado and tomato and a cup of tea. I like PG Tips English Breakfast. I grew up in England, so that was my go-to.
How I sweat: I like to switch it up because I get bored. I work out with Body by Simone. I like to do Core Power Yoga. I sometimes work out with a trainer named Astrid, if I need one-on-one strength training. On weekends, I hike.
In the past, I used to decide that day what I was going to do. Now I schedule it out so I?m held accountable. On a good week, I?ll work out five times. But often I?m dancing during the day and get home late, and sometimes I?m just so tired. So it might be three times a week instead.
How I eat when I?m alone: Sometimes I do love to be healthy and cook. But there are times when Postmates is my best friend. I love Italian food like pizza, pasta, and glass of wine. The atmosphere is romantic and really fun. It?s about finding fun ways to make eating an experience beyond just fueling your body.
My wellness shortcut is: There isn’t any, really. But one thing I’ve gotten into recently is juicing. It picks up your metabolism, if you want to call it a shortcut. We bought a juicer and started at first with recipes, but now we started making our own with kale, carrots, apples, ginger, beets, celery, spinach, cucumber, and tomato.
Also, my brother [Derek] is a big advocate of working out throughout the day. So even if you’re hanging out, sit down and do some abs. If you’re walking around the kitchen, do some squats and lunges. Put on some wrists and ankle weights and lift your arms.
[From New York Magazine/The Cut]
This all sounds reasonable to me, actually. Julianne has a dancer?s discipline so obviously a fitness routine is built into her day where some of us work to fit one in. However, she is promoting a fitness line collaboration and most of this is advice I can follow. I might skip the kitchen squats, but I can throw on a few more heavy bangles and reach for stuff off the high shelves. Postmates, though? I had never heard of Postmates ? someone runs around town picking things up and brings them to your house? This is not going to help my motivation or pocketbook.
What does make me sad is how many of these answers I could give similarly and yet, I look nothing like Julianne Hough. Granted I have a couple of decades and kids on her but I schedule a run every morning, try to cook healthy and find ways to work in a few calorie burners into everyday routines. Maybe it?s the juicing, I have never gotten into juicing. I don?t begrudge it, but when I say I am going to drink my dinner, it usually involves a Bordeaux ? does that count?
I want to like this midnight blue Monique Lhuillier dress – the color is amazing – but the fit is off. I don’t mind tent dresses but the patterned netting with a pulled-too-wide sweetheart neckline compete with the drape.

| Julianne Hough: 'In Mormon culture, three months is a long time to be engaged' | Added 8 years ago | Source: CeleBitchy |

|
Late last summer, Julianne Hough announced her engagement to certified hottie Brooks Laich. Brooks is a professional hockey player and he is GORGEOUS. If that tall drink of water was giving me a giant 5-carat diamond rings, I would want to lock that sh-t down so hard and so fast. But not Julianne. She?s been engaged for five months and she and Brooks have still not set a date. Her excuse is that she?s busy. TOO BUSY TO LOCK IT DOWN. She knows she?s playing with fire too ? she tells People Magazine that it feels really weird to be engaged this long without setting a date, mostly because that kind of thing is just not done with Mormons.
Julianne Hough is in no rush to wed fianc Brooks Laich. Her Mormon father has advised that “the minute you get engaged, you have to set a date,” but Hough says in the latest issue of PEOPLE that she and Laich are “just really enjoying” this stage in their relationship.
“In Mormon culture, three months is a long time to be engaged,” she says. “But we plan on being together forever, so we have time.”
Which is a good thing, because Hough, 27, and Laich, 32, are a little busy right now. Hough is rehearsing to star as Sandy in Fox’s upcoming Grease: Live (airing Jan. 31) and Laich, a Washington Capitals centerman, spends his weeks traveling across the country for NHL games.
Despite the frequent physical distance between the two, Hough says Laich “grounds” her. Still, neither half of the couple plans to slow down in the near future. So even though Hough says she’s wanted to be a mom since she was 5 years old, that won’t be happening “any time soon.”
“I’m all over the place,” she says. “So it’s really nice to have a solid path [with Brooks] now.”
[From People]
It?s not that I forgot that Julianne was/is a Mormon ? I actually think about it every time I write about her ? but I guess I just thought that she had moved away from the church of Latter Day Saints in the past few years. I mean, she?s shacked up with Brooks, right? I think they?ve been living together for a while, and they?re already raising dogs together. My guess is that she still considers herself a Mormon but she lives a more liberal lifestyle than most people in LDS. By all accounts, Brooks does not belong to LDS. So I wonder where they?ll marry?
