| Emily Blunt on her citizen jokes: 'I really apologize to those that I caused offense' | Added 9 years ago | Source: CeleBitchy |

As we discussed a few days ago, Emily Blunt has been joking about her new American citizenship while she promotes her film, Sicario. She took her citizenship oath the same day as the first GOP Debate, and she?s made several jokes about how watching the debate made her think that becoming a citizen was ?a terrible mistake.? Which is fine with me, part of being an American is hating on our idiotic politicians. What bugged me was that she described her naturalization as ?sad? and ?not entirely thrilling.? That smacked of privilege to me, just because? there are seriously SO MANY undocumented immigrants who would love the opportunity to become legal citizens. They are fighting so hard and coming across so many roadblocks and all they want to do is call themselves Americans. If Emily really had such ambivalence about becoming a citizen, why bother? That was my problem with her statements, although Fox News jumped over everything she said and told her to take her crumpet back to jolly old England or whatever.
So, Emily heard all of the complaints and she attempted some damage control on the Today Show yesterday morning. First, she was asked about taking her citizenship oath and Blunt changed her tune in a hurry, saying: “It’s really meaningful. You know, I mean, my two favorite people in the world are American ? my husband and my daughter. It was kind of a special day. Yeah, it was great!” When asked specifically about her comments about the GOP Debate, Blunt flat-out apologized: ?It was so not the intention to hurt anybody or cause any offense, so I really apologize to those that I caused offense. It was just an offhand joke. I think I’ll probably leave the political jokes to late night or something.” Yeah? except she was telling variations of those jokes in several outlets over the course of two weeks. But whatever, she apologized. Embrace her again, ‘Merica!

It was one of the coolest charity fundraisers in recent memory, and NBC?s Red Nose Day shindig got started when Seth Meyers made a simple phone call to Chris Pine.
In last night?s clip (May 21), the ?Late Night? host pitches his idea to the ?Star Trek? stud who replies, ?Who is this?? Meyers declares, ?It?s Seth Meyers, Chris. We?ve met like a million times.?
From there, Pine recruits Emily Blunt, who thinks it?s called Red Rose Day. She calls her husband John Krasinski, who tells Zac Efron, Neil Patrick Harris and Reese Witherspoon that he needs help with Red Hose Day. Check the clip!

Here are some photos from the Cannes photocall for Sicario, starring Emily Blunt, Josh Brolin and Benicio Del Toro. Blunt wore this pretty, summery Peter Pilotto dress for the photocall. I like it, but that?s mostly because I?m relieved to see something summery and season-appropriate at Cannes. Blunt caused a lot of headlines at today?s press conference because she chatted about several hot topics. One, she talked about gender equality in films (the studio wanted to make her character into a dude). Two, she talked about Tom Cruise and how pro-woman he is (that?s interesting). Three, she talked about how stupid it was for the Cannes Film Festival to ban flats on the red carpet. Did they seriously do that? Some highlighted quotes:
Blunt on working with a lot of dudes: ?It?s something that I?ve become quite used to in films. There aren?t a ton of chicks around.?
In praise of Tom Cruise: ?I?ve actually worked with a lot of great male actors, like Tom Cruise for example. He is very empowering to females in a huge way. I thought [when I got to set], Oh it?s going to be a boys club. But he was someone who was very much about my character being a girl. It was refreshing.?
Playing strong characters: ?I get [told] a lot, ?You play a lot of tough female roles,? but I don?t really see them as tough. I think there are plenty of strong women out there and I don?t think they can be compartmentalized as being one thing. ?You?re tough.? What, because I have a gun? I found [my Sicario] character strangely quite damaged and vulnerable and she is struggling with this role of being a female cop. Certainly, the morally questionable things that she is having to experience with these guys. It?s not safe. And you see this girl going through pretty much the worst three days of her life. And she is trying to maintain face through most of it.?
The idea of playing a character that could have been male: ?I wasn?t really thinking about adjusting to making it more masculine. I think [the character] is definitely trying to survive in a male-driven industry. The F.B.I. agents that I spoke to sound like me. They sound like normal girls, and they go home and watch Gosford Park and Downton Abbey. They?re great girls. You definitely want to have a beer with them.?
The Cannes ban on flats: ?I think everyone should wear flats to be honest. We should not wear high heels anyway. That?s just my point of view. I prefer wearing converse sneakers. That is very disappointing. You kind of think that there?s these new waves of equality and waves of people realizing that women are just as fascinating and interesting to watch and bankable.?
[From Vanity Fair]
Apparently, some women have been turned away from the Cannes red carpet for wearing flats. WHICH IS INSANE. Of all the crazy stuff that?s ?allowed? on the red carpet, Cannes organizers are taking a stand on? flats? RLY? As for the rest of it? I?m surprised at how she consistently defends Tom Cruise ? they worked together on The Edge of Tomorrow and they seemed to genuinely get along. Which just goes to show you, Tom Cruise is definitely a nutburger and a central part of a dangerous cult, but he also inspires a lot of loyalty with his friends.
PS? Josh Brolin apparently just got engaged to his personal assistant. He and Diane Lane divorced a few years back, and I feel like Brolin is a major mess, but we haven?t heard much about him lately. So I don?t know what to say about it. I bet he?s cheating on his fiance though.

| Emily Blunt in red Emilio Pucci at the Critics' Choice: striking or boring' | Added 9 years ago | Source: CeleBitchy |

Emily Blunt and John Krasinski were my favorite couple at last night’s Critics’ Choice Awards. They were adorable together. When Emily won for Best Actress in an Action Movie, for The Edge of Tomorrow, John ran on to congratulate her from the side of the stage, where he was waiting to present the next award. Emily joked during her acceptance speech that she was so fit during the film that she could bench John. She also said that it was “the greatest thing to not be a damsel in distress in an action movie.” Later in the night, the two of them riffed with host Michael Strahan, with John jumping up in faux outrage after Michael called Emily hot. You just get the feeling that they’re so happy together. I’ve never been a big fan of either but they’re growing on me.
Emily wore this red full length Pucci sequin gown with a keyhole neckline. She often takes calculated risks with her fashion and goes for a kind of thoughtful style rather than a bombshell look. (She’s gorgeous, she just doesn’t overdo it.) This really works, and her Lorraine Schwartz bangles and drop earrings are the perfect complement to the look. Check out this close up of her bracelet. Someone pissed her off but she’s keeping her game face on.
Here are some other attendees last night and we’ll be bringing you more fashion and news from the Critics Choice Awards throughout the morning. First off we have Andrea Riseborough in a green Escada pantsuit. Riseborough co-starred in Birdman along with Michael Keaton and Naomi Watts. When Birdman won for Best Acting Ensemble, Keaton asked her to speak and she was so cute. I thought she was in her mid 20s but it turns out that she’s 33. Her minimal makeup really makes her look younger. I like this oversize pantsuit, it’s quirky and it works. It looks like something Tilda Swinton would have worn if she had deigned to show up.
I’m also including photos of Genesis Rodriguez and Jamie Chung, two actresses from the excellent animated movie Big Hero 6. I didn’t know who they were prior to this but they both look incredible. Genesis is in a blue cutout strapless Reem Acra gown. It’s a little “look at me” but not bad. I much prefer Jamie’s full coverage Yanina Couture dress with the large abstract floral pattern. I usually dislike the sheer skirt over a miniskirt trend but this is incredible.

| Emily Blunt: "Captain Marvel" Role is "Fan-Casting" | Added 9 years ago | Source: Celebrity Gossip |

They spent the holidays in Mexico with Jennifer Aniston, Justin Theroux, Jimmy Kimmel and Howard Stern, and on Thursday (January 1) Emily Blunt and John Krasinski wrapped up their vacation and flew back to Los Angeles. The ?Adjustment Bureau? babe and her ?Office? hunk showed up at LAX International Airport and looked to be in good spirits following their relaxing trip.
Meanwhile, Emily recently told press that while she hasn?t been offered the part of Captain Marvel in the forthcoming flick, she has turned down two big Marvel roles in the past.
?No one?s offered me that officially so it?s very unofficial. I think it?s fan-casting, which is always very nice. But nothing official has been offered, for sure. If I get it, thank Meryl [Streep] for it!?
As for reports that she was offered to play the Black Widow and Peggy Carter, Blunt confirmed, ?Yeah, but it was never the right time, really, and it just didn?t work out scheduling-wise with those two. It?s always a difficult thing to talk about, because it?s not fair to the actresses who ended up playing them, you know? It just wasn?t the right time.?

| Emily Blunt won't buy baby Hazel gadgets: 'You want things to be sensory' | Added 10 years ago | Source: CeleBitchy |

I know no one will care about this Emily Blunt post, but I’m writing it anyway. She’s not a fameho — she just shows up and gets the job done without a whiff of controversy. She behaves like a pro, and you never hear anything say a bad word about her or John Krasinski. Anyway, Emily is promoting Into the Woods after Monday night’s premiere. She’s doing the rounds with People and touching upon new motherhood. Emily said, “You don?t know what to expect because it’s just completely, existentially out of anything that you?ve ever experienced before, and it?s quite indescribable … It?s heaven.” See? She’s lovely.
Emily also talked to E! and gave John a hard time by telling the world he cried during her new movie. Emily also says she won’t be buying baby Hazel a Kindle (or any other type of gadget) anytime soon:
Turns out John Krasinski has already seen Into The Woods on the big screen and he couldn’t help but fall in love.
“He cried. He absolutely loved it,” Blunt revealed to E! News before the film hits theatres Christmas Day. “I think he was so moved by it by what it’s saying to this generation and that idea of nobody being alone at the end. It’s such an amazing theme running through this film.”
She added, “Yes it’s a musical but it’s not just a spectacle. It says some really profound things like be careful what you say to children. Children will listen.”
Speaking of kids, the happily married couple is hard at work raising their nine-month-old daughter Hazel at home.
The Disney fairytale has definitely reminded the parents to focus on following traditions such as reading fairytale books to their daughter.
“She’s nine months old but she understands. She sits on me, this little thing, and she understands turning a page already and going on a journey,” Blunt shared. “I think that’s amazing.”
“I think everything is on a gadget nowadays and I just want her to have the satisfaction I had as a kid,” she continued. “You want things to be sensory for kids.”
You mean no technology? No fancy gadgets? Not any time soon! In fact, Blunt doesn’t even know how to use them.
“I think kids are just remarkable on these things,” the actress shared. “I’m a dinosaur with them. I barely know how to turn things on. She’s going to teach me more than any computer class.”
[From E! Online]
Emily’s got the right idea about books. I almost exclusively read on Kindle now because it’s so convenient. The books are usually cheaper that way, and it’s a space-saving device. But the tactile experience of learning to read with real books is valuable to kids. My daughter chewed up so many books when she was a baby, but she loved learning to turn those pages. Emily has the right idea, definitely.
Here’s a clip of Emily visiting David Letterman in late November. She talks about how she saved Meryl Streep from falling head first onto concrete. Emily said, “Rob Marshall and James Corden froze. Didn?t move. And the pregnant woman caught her.” Busted.

| Emily Blunt in Dolce & Gabbana at 'Into the Woods' premiere: gorgeous' | Added 10 years ago | Source: CeleBitchy |

These are photos from last night’s world premiere of Into the Woods in NYC. Johnny Depp plays the Big Bad Wolf, but he was nowhere to be seen. We could interpret his absence in many scandalous ways. Maybe he was sleeping it off. Whatever “it” may be. The big stars of the premiere were Emily Blunt and John Krasinski. Emily plays the Baker’s Wife, and she went all out in a floral Dolce & Gabbanna dress. It’s so cold in NYC right now, and this dress is very springlike, but it fits with the movie’s theme. This is a lush and gorgeous dress. The embroidered roses are quite bold, but this is a fairytale movie. Emily looks very event appropriate and gorgeous. John is wearing a Dolce & Gabbanna suit.
Anna Kendrick went for an understated Narciso Rodriguez gown in black and white silk. The dress has a leather waistband, which is kind of cool. She looks very elegant and beautiful but a little dull. Anna plays Cinderella in this movie, so something fussier would have been fun.
Meryl Streep looked fantastic as always. I don’t have an ID on this dress and coat, but it may have come straight out of the closet. Meryl can get away with that.
Lots of other celebs came out for the premiere. I’m including Jon Hamm with his jaunty hat and Jennifer Westfeldt, Trudy Styler and Sting, Christine Baranski, and Tracey Ullman. CB already covered Alyssa Milano’s cleave. Chris Cornell brought the whole fam. Oh, and Ralph Macchio! Wax on, wax off.

She?s always been easy on the eyes and last night (October 7) Emily Blunt reminded the world of what a stunner she is at Battersea Evolution in London.
The ?Adjustment Bureau? actress was in the house to attend the IWC Gala Dinner in honor of the BFI, hobnobbing with fellow star Christoph Waltz before scurrying inside.
And of course, Emily chose the perfect getup for the shindig, meandering around in a floor-length orange gown with white paneling and capped sleeves.
Hosted by the International Watch Company (they make the Rolls Royce of watches), the evening also featured guests like Mick Jagger, Ewan Mcgregor and Cate Blanchett.
