Last night, Zoe Saldana and Anna Kendrick led a press conference to announce the 2013 Independent Spirit Awards Nominations, and they were joined by Common as well. Lucky them, right? I’d love to be accompanied nearly anywhere by Common, and the Spirit Awards are sort of exciting too because they are known as a good indication of what will be nominated at the Oscars.
I’ve included a partial list of the nominees at the bottom of this post, but it looks like Harvey Weinstein will be very satisfied that The Silver Linings Playbook leads the pack with several nominations including Best Feature, Best Female Lead (Jennifer Lawrence), and Best Male Lead (Bradley “Friendly Neighborhood Serial Killer” Cooper). Does this mean that we’ll be seeing BCoop as an Oscar nominee? Bizarre. Oh, and Matthew McConaughey has been nominated twice, including Best Supporting Actor for Magic Mike! Kaiser should be pleased with this development, since she thinks McConaughey deserves an Oscar nod that role, and I agree. He was pretty fantastic in that movie.
Now let’s talk about the fashion here. Zoe wore a very simple Preen dress in royal blue, and the color looks absolutely smashing against her skin tone and hair. I think she looks great here and much better than her usual fashion choices. The dress is playful and has a lovely shape to it, which balances out her usual severe manner of dressing. Zoe seems like she had a lot of fun in this dress and at the event. She’s also wearing Rupert Sanderson heels (which are just okay), keeping the jewelry minimal, and highlighting her long, flowing hair. I think the lipstick would have been too much under other circumstances, but the bold red color is a nice contrast against the blue of the dress.
Anna Kendrick looked so pretty at this event in a Halston Heritage dress that I’d like to label as ballerina Pink but was probably more of blush pink/champagne. The dress was very flattering to her figure, and I am loving her silver Sergio Rossi shoes. Anna’s fashion sometimes deviates a bit too quirky for my tastes, but she’s a dream here.

The complete list of nominees is available here. I’m just so pleased that McConaughey got nominated for both supporting and lead this year for his work in indie films. This is a major step up from the romcom hell within which he was stuck for several years. McConaughey is back, baby! But seriously, how did Bruce Willis get nominated for Moonrise Kingdom over Bill Murray? That man deserves all the awards forever.

By popular request, here are some of the photos of Zoe Saldana in character as Nina Simone for the long-gestating bio-pic Nina. I kept forgetting to write about these pics, partly because I didn?t really know what to say and partly because I didn?t know what to say about my personal discomfort with Zoe Saldana taking a role in which she has to undergo a makeup transformation to make her skin darker.
Now, I am a Nina Simone fan, even more so as the years go by. Years ago, I was probably more into Aretha Franklin and Billie Holliday, but as I get older, I appreciate Nina Simone?s vocal talents more and more. But my Nina Simone fan-girl status is just about her music ? I know next to nothing about her life. I don?t really know if there is a ?Nina Simone look? or a certain style that can be particularly attributed to Simone. As I was looking through some photos of the real Nina Simone? it has become increasingly clear to me that Zoe Saldana looks nothing like her. Here?s the real Nina:
See? How in the world does Zoe Saldana look like that? Is it offensive that Hollywood producers were just like, ?Well, Nina Simone was a black woman so we need to find a black actress to play her, and it doesn?t matter what that actress looks like beyond her skin color??
Apparently, Zoe is wearing prosthetics on her face and a ton of makeup to achieve this ?look?. But Nina Simone?s daughter Lisa told the NYT: ?My mother was raised at a time when she was told her nose was too wide, her skin was too dark. Appearance-wise this is not the best choice.? You know who Zoe looks like with all of this makeup and stuff? Old-school Jada Pinkett Smith. Right?

Over the weekend, I noticed a photo set of Zoe Saldana looking like she just rolled out of bed, standing outside of her house, waving at someone not pictured. The caption read, ?Zoe Saldana seen eating some cereal and waving good-bye to Bradley Cooper after he stayed the night at her house in Los Angeles.? Very, very interesting, right? Then came these photos ? ?Superstar couple Bradley Cooper and Zoe Saldana were seen enjoying a night out at the Archlight Dome Theater where they watched ?The Master? on September 22, 2012 in West Hollywood, California.? Even more interesting.
First of all, Bradley Cooper does NOT like to be photographed with his girlfriends. I think it?s one of the reasons why those ?gay rumors? persist ? because he is rarely, if ever, photographed with women, and on the rare occasion that he is photographed with a girlfriend-type, they rarely look hot for each other. Second of all, these photos are interesting because A) the paparazzi knew that Bradley spent the night at Zoe?s house, and then they magically knew that Bradley and Zoe would be leaving a movie? arm-in-arm? And the third thing: most people really thought that Bradley and Zoe had broken up months ago. They ?got together? when they filmed their movie, The Words, last year and then Zoe just spent months hanging out with Bradley?s mom, then no one ever saw them together, and then everyone was like, ?Eh, I guess they broke up??
Did someone say The Words? Did you know that film is still in theaters right now? It?s in a theater near you. I don?t know why the photo agency didn?t just caption these photos like that. ?Bradley Cooper was seen leaving Zoe Saldana?s house after spending the night and The Words is still in theaters right now.?

After spending the night at her Los Angeles home, Bradley Cooper and Zoe Saldana enjoyed a movie date night at the Arclight Dome Theater where they saw "The Master" on Saturday (September 22).
The seemingly on-again couple snuggled up to each other while leaving the theater with the "Hangover" hunk in a dark baseball cap, black and white jacket, and gray pants while his "The Words" co-star lady donned a long striped dress and beige sweater.
Though the couple broke up back in March with a source telling Us Weekly, "They?re definitely not together. She and Bradley weren?t super-serious at all,? it seems the sparks are back.
Recently, the "Avatar" actress caused a bit of controversy when The Hollywood Reporter revealed that she would be cast as the singer Nina Simone in the upcoming biopic "Nina." Some critics would prefer that the actress match Simone's dark complexion.
An online petition at Change.org calls for writer/director Cynthia Mort to change the casting choice to an actress "who actually looks like Nina Simone." According to Tiffani Jones, of the blog Coffee Rhetoric, "Hollywood and the media have a tendency to whitewash and lightwash a lot of stories, particularly when black actresses are concerned.?

Rounding out her weekend with a fun-filled evening, Zoe Saldana got all gussied up and hit the 2012 NCLR ALMA Awards last night (September 16).
The ?Columbiana? cutie turned heads everywhere she walked at the Pasadena Civic Auditorium thanks to her black Gucci dress, Brian Atwood heels, and Gucci clutch.
And Zoe was more than a mere attendee at the star-studded event- she also walked away with the Favorite Movie Actress: Drama/Adventure trophy!
On the career front, Ms. Saldana has a plethora of projects in the pipeline such as ?Out of the Furnace,? Star Trek: Into Darkness,? ?Blood Ties,? and ?Nina.?

Stepping out for a fabulous fete, Zoe Saldana was spotted at the 2012 MTV Video Music Awards in Los Angeles, CA this evening (September 6).
The ?Avatar? actress was in fine form as she posed for the paparazzi prior to making her way inside the Staples Center to catch all the action.
Zoe is on the list of presenters for the night, along with Miley Cyrus, Mac Miller, Ke$ha and the Gold medal winning U.s. gymnastics team best known as the "Fierce Five"
Additionally, several big names will be on hand to perform, including Alicia Keys, Taylor Swift, Rihanna, P!nk and first-timer Frank Ocean.

Looking chic in boyfriend jeans and a sweater, the 34-year-old actress spent the afternoon relaxing after her big Hollywood premiere for ?The Words.?
As recently reported by GossipCenter, the ?Avatar? beauty hit the red carpet with her co-star Bradley Cooper on Tuesday (September 4) at the ArcLight Cinemas in Los Angeles.
With the premiere under their belts, the stars including Ben Barnes, Jeremy Irons and Dennis Quaid are preparing for ?The Words? opening on Friday (September 7).

I?m not sure what to think of the trailers for The Words. I think if different actors were involved in the story ? which seems to span decades, and involve a stolen manuscript and several interwoven love stories ? I would find the whole thing more appealing. But the cast for the film just seems kind of funky, and it doesn?t give me a lot of hope that the script is any good. I mean, Bradley Cooper is the lead! And his leading ladies are Zoe Saldana and Olivia Wilde. Jeremy Irons is in the mix too, and while I love Irons? work (Reversal of Fortune is one of my favorite films), the last time Irons did anything noteworthy, it was because he was talking about how much he loves to grope the asses of every lady he meets. Here?s the trailer:
So…. here are the photos from last night?s Hollywood premiere. Olivia Wilde didn?t even come to the premiere, which is weird because she goes to the opening of an envelope. So Zoe Saldana was the big ?fashion girl? on the carpet ? and she wore Elie Saab Fall 2012. I like the dress in general, and my favorite part is the open back. But I think the color is ?off? on Zoe. A shade darker or lighter, and this would have been stunning, but in most of these pics, it?s reading as beige-y pea-soup instead of gold.
Zoe had to pose with her ex-boyfriend (cough) Bradley Cooper on the red carpet too. Boy, the stories she could tell about that man. Stories like? how much fun it is to hang out with B.Coop?s mom, because that seemed to be all Zoe did when she dated Bradley. Bradley looks okay here ? not ?Sexiest Man Alive? or anything, but nice enough. Emu-ish and vest-y but presentable. As for Ass-Grope Irons, his outfit is cray. It?s like he wanted to wear skinny jeans tucked into his boots, but he didn?t know how to put that look together.

Carrying a brown paper bag and a bottle of juice, the "Avatar" actress put her healthy hand over her face as she made her way across the street wearing high rise skinny jeans and a polka-dot top.
On the business front, Zoe has been rumored to have landed the lead role in the upcoming Cynthia Mort film "Nina", playing the late jazz musician and classical pianist Nina Simone.
The movie is said to document Simone's rise to fame as well as her relationship with her manager Clifton Henderson (played by David Oyelowo).
