Zoe Saldana covers the January issue of Modern Luxury’s Manhattan magazine to promote her new film, Out of the Furnace, which costars Christian Bale, Woody Harrelson, and Casey Affleck. Zoe plays Bale’s lover, and the movie is a gritty crime drama that (if the trailer is any indication) looks pretty damn compelling. The cast is just incredible, and the trailer is full of action, emotion, and intrigue. Woody plays a bad guy, which should be fun to watch. Zoe’s character looks like more than ths usual stock “girlfriend” too.
The magazine spread is rather beautiful in a bland way, but the interview is slightly more interesting. Zoe talks about how she refuses to play the part of a clichd Hollywood starlet. Do we buy what she’s selling here?
On gender injustice: “It’s very hard being a woman in a man’s world, and I recognised it was a man’s world even when I was a kid. It’s an inequality and injustice that drove me crazy, and which I always spoke out against – and I’ve always been outspoken. I love learning new skills, especially those you’re told girls aren’t good at – like parallel parking. Hey, I’m going to learn to ride a Ducati!”
She doesn’t “generic” or “sexy bombshell” characters:
“I’m known for being selective in parts I either pick or pursue, and what matters most is that they be good female roles where the character isn’t cardboard or objectified, and where there’s real substance. No generic girlfriend or wife, and no sexy bombshell. Enough of that already!”
The power of ballet: “Before ballet, I had trouble concentrating, and I wouldn?t even try to concentrate on things I wasn’t interested in. The barre, the piano, the breathing – they calmed and centred me, and allowed me to learn lessons physically, which is how I learn best.”
Her family’s work ethic: “My sisters and I weren’t raised to be princesses; we were taught to want love and to recognise love, but not to be tempted to sacrifice things you can provide for yourself for love. We were taught to work.”

Zoe’s attitude towards her career may seem odd because her breakthrough role was in the super-major blockbuster (Avatar) to end all blockbusters. Yet she didn’t predictably head down the romantic comedy route. I can appreciate such an offbeat and unexpected career path.

The ?Avatar? babe was more than happy to work her mojo for the cameras before scurrying inside to take the stage as one of the night's many presenters.
Tonight?s festivities will be hosted by noted rapper Pitbull, while Rihanna will receive the first ever AMA Icon Award for her prolific pop music career.
As for the performers, artists like One Direction, Katy Perry, Miley Cyrus, Lady Gaga, and Kendrick Lamar will all take the stage.

Classy in a brown blouse with white flowers, the "Star Trek" starlet wore high-hipped jeans and designer sandals, walking the streets of LA sporting a pair of shades.
In career news, the 35-year-old beauty is hard at work on a handful of movies, all coming out in the next two years. Her comedy, "Infinitely Polar Bear," is set for release in 2014.
According to the synopsis, "A manic-depressive mess of a father tries to win back his wife by attempting to take full responsibility of their two young, spirited daughters, who don't make the overwhelming task any easier."

Ms. Saldana donned a casual shawl over a printed blue jumpsuit and black sunglasses and smiled non-stop while holding her Italian stud?s hand.
And of course there was plenty of nuzzling and smooching along the way as these two are definitely still in their honeymoon stage.

Zoe Saldana married some guy. At first I was like, ?Damn, I didn?t even know she was dating someone!? But now that my brain is functioning a little bit better, I vaguely remember hearing something about Zoe and this dude Marco Perego. He?s an Italian artist, he?s tight with some members of the Grimaldi/Casiraghi family, and the whole thing sounds very ?European?. Marco and Zoe?s wedding took place in London, and since everything happened so suddenly, I?ve got to ask: pregnant much?
Zoe Saldana is officially off the market! The Blood Ties actress and beau Marco Perego secretly tied the knot in London in June, Us Weekly can exclusively confirm.
“It was super small but very romantic and beautiful,” a source reveals to Us of the ceremony, which was attended by just a few close friends and relatives.
The New Jersey-born, New York-raised star and the Italian artist, both 34, were first linked in mid-May when they were spotted kissing after Saldana’s Star Trek Into Darkness premiere in L.A. But an insider told Us in June that the newlyweds have “known each other for a long time.” Another pal added, “They have great chemistry.”
Saldana — who had an on-again, off-again relationship with Bradley Cooper from 2011 to 2013 — is loving life with Perego. “Zoe’s thrilled to have someone she can enjoy life with!” an insider said.
The Guardians of the Galaxy actress was previously engaged to Keith Britton, CEO of My Fashion Database. They called it quits in November 2011 after 11 years together. Saldana spoke about her desire to settle down and start a family the next year, during an April 2012 appearance on Lifetime’s The Conversation With Amanda de Cadenet.
“I’m Latin — we start young, honey!” said the star, whose other film credits include Avatar, Colombiana, and Crossroads. “At 22 you’re like, ‘I just wanna hold something!’ You want a little critter.”
“I love the anxiety, the pressure of the loud room full of yapping kids. But I’m a kid myself,” Saldana continued. “I get along very well with animals and children. I dig them, I get them. They make perfect sense to me. A child makes perfect sense to me. A child speaks more sense than an adult half of the time.”

You know what this reminds me of? This reminds me of poor Renee Zellweger, who has barely been seen or heard from since she and Bradley Cooper broke up BEFORE Bradley started up with Zoe. I always hoped Renee would have this kind of ?happy ending? moment too. I mean, not that I think Zoe and Marco are going to last or anything. God no. They?ve barely been together five months if that. Anyway, congrats to Zoe. I think.
PS? This guy looks sort of like Chad Kroeger, right? But somehow douchier.

Prior to her current relationship, the 35-year-old actress dated her "The Words" co-star, Bradley Cooper and they'll soon reunite on screen.
In the newest Marvel flick, "Guardians of the Galaxy," the pair are both cast members, but are unlikely to run into each other on set. Keeping his handsome face behind the scenes, Bradley will voice the character of Rocket Raccoon.

Then at the end, Amanda changes the tone completely and asks what her favorite sex position is.
Says Zoe, “I have to say, for a long time I was a bit lazy so I didn’t like to be on top, but I’m really digging it. But I’ve found things that work. Let’s say because I have really long legs. You make them sit or lay on a pillow or two pillows that way they’re a little elevated so I won’t be so doing like a split because my legs are really long.”
She went on, “So if I’m on top, I’m straddling. If I’m on top, my legs split too much and my joints hurt. If they’re elevated, then I can sort of sit more and it’s phenomenal.”

Here are some photos from last night?s Cannes Film Festival premiere of Blood Ties, Guillaume Canet?s new English-only (?) film. The film stars Mila Kunis, Clive Owen, Marion Cotillard, Zoe Saldana and many more. Unfortunately, Mila Kunis did not come to Cannes, and I have NO idea why. I just saw some photos of Mila and Ashton in London, so it?s not like it would have been crazy travel time. Anyway, let?s start with Zoe Saldana in this Valentino gown. I feel like? this could have been more striking if only the designer had made some more interesting edits. I?m not flat-out opposed to the grey-blue fabric, I just think it would have looked prettier? maybe as a strapless ball gown? Those white straps make it seem like Zoe was wearing a shell underneath her gown.
Here?s Marion Cotillard in Dior. It?s just? ugh. Marion loves a mullet dress. She loves to wear ugly, unconventional pieces and style them in unusual ways. Is this the worst thing ever? No. It?s not. But it?s also disappointing because she?s so beautiful and I would love to see her dress impeccably. This dress looks sloppy (but the styling is fab).
Milla Jovovich (she?s not in the film) was there. She wore Chanel. Again, not the best but not the worst.
Aishwarya Rai in an intricate gown by Abu Jani and Sandeep Khosla. The beading and button-front feel very Indian to me, and it?s very beautiful. I would have styled it with her hair back, though. With the hair down, everything just seems so heavy.
