Christina Hendricks showed up to the AFI Fest screening of her movieGinger and Rosa at the Grauman’s Chinese Theatre in Hollywood. She was wearing this. Everyone there must have been real happy that dress wasn’t held together by buttons. The night would have been a disaster what with the mounting pressure underneath that thing. By this morning we would have heard about the tragic deaths of 4 people caused by Christina Hendricks’ exploding dress buttons.

These are some photos from last night?s AFI Fest screening/premiere of the new film Ginger & Rosa. If that film sounds familiar, it?s because we covered some pics of the London Film Festival premiere a few weeks ago. The film stars Christina Hendricks, Elle Fanning, and Alice Englert, all of whom you can see in these photos. Sigh? I really don?t like the way anyone looks here. I know I?m nit-picky and bitchy and all of that, but seriously! WHY does Christina Hendricks insist on doing that to her boobs? WHY does a 14-year-old need to wear a strapless gown?! Let?s analyze.
Christina is wearing L?Wren Scott. You know how much I love L?Wren ? I think her clothes are classic, elegant and very, very wearable for women with diverse body types. Is this sparkly black dress flattering on Christina? Yes. It is. It?s a pretty dress that I personally would have no problems wearing. But I feel like we?ve reached a point where Christina should be beyond jacking up her boobs for every red carpet. We don?t need to see your girls EVERY time, Chrissy.
As for Elle? she?s 14 years old. This is the second time she?s gone strapless for a film festival premiere for just THIS movie. The last time it was in London, and she wore a cardigan draped around her shoulders with her strapless Rochas gown. This time there?s no cardigan to pair with her Oscar de la Renta gown, and I still think that she?s just too young to go strapless in general, especially on a red carpet. I do like that her face looks ?fresh? and that she?s not wearing a ton of makeup. I also like the hairband. It?s youthful. Too bad about the strapless gown, though.

I?ve mentioned before that Christina Hendricks gets an extraordinary amount of love from the UK. She gets a lot of press here in America, of course, but over the past few years, it seems like the British press and the UK viewers of Mad Men are simply Hendricks-crazy. She has become an icon of a certain kind of voluptuous, old-school-type of feminine ideal. I think Christina must get lots of offers to appear on the British magazines too, because she tends to do more UK press than American. So here is Christina?s Glamour UK cover for the November issue. What is she promoting? God knows. But she looks pretty in the photo shoot. Some highlights from the interview:
The red carpet ordeal: “You get everyone out there judging your dress and your hair and your lipstick, and you just think, ‘Let me get dressed up and go to a nice party. Why do you have to be so judgmental?’ But usually, once you’re past the red carpet and you get inside, you have a nice time.?
She loves a good kaftan: “I wear kaftans at home – they’re comfortable but still feminine and pretty.?
On Mad Men: ?It’s completely changed my career. Instead of people wondering who you are, you walk in and they say, “I love your show”. It’s a nice way to start an audition. I hate to ever think of it finishing. I have concerns about finding something I’m going to fall in love with as much.?
During her haitus from Mad Men: ?I’ve got a couple of things lined up for the next break, and I hope to enjoy my home and husband. Just keep going, try to live a happy, normal life, and find a great job.?
Her husband Geoffrey Arend, and how she knew he was The One: ?It just became very obvious to me, I was smitten. He makes me laugh and he’s my best friend and I would always rather be with him than not, so those are pretty good indications.?

Yeah, she?s not a super-exciting interview. She never was, and maybe she never will be. Perhaps she?s one of those actresses who actively tries to be boring so that she can play a wide range of characters without the audience feeling like they ?know? her a specific way? Or maybe she?s just particularly un-dramatic for an actress. Whatever. Boobs. That?s all that matters, right?
As for her comment about “judgmental” people who yell at her for what she’s wearing on the red carpet… two things. One, yes, Christina has had to deal with more crap from so-called style people because she is not a typical size-zero starlet. So that I can understand. Two, maybe we wouldn’t be so “judgmental” if she hired a stylist who knew what the f–k they were doing for a buxom, pale redhead? Because her current gear is NOT working.
The Pink dress is McQueen, by the way. It?s really pretty on her!

Now here’s a girl who knows how to step it up for primetime. After somehow reigning in her epic cleavage for a pre-Emmy event, Christina Hendricks unleashed the big guns just in time for the show. It makes sense — the Emmys are all about celebrating TV’s biggest talents, and nobody’s are bigger than Christina’s.

My mom and I were on the phone during the Emmys red carpet show, and when Christina Hendricks came up to talk to Ryan Seacrest, all my mom could say was ?BELT.? All I could say was ?Jayne Mansfield.? That?s what it was like. Christina is obviously an embarrassment of riches when it comes to T&A, but this dress? ugh. Christina?s Christian Siriano gown was not the right color, first of all. She?s so pale, and I wish she would get out of the habit of wearing such light colors. They wash her out. As for the design? well, at least she was showing off her small waist, you know? I think her boobs are so big, people forget that she has stuff below the boobs. But the dress was very ?Ginger Jayne Mansfield.? Which is to say ?How can you pay any attention to anything else after seeing that tit buffet?? Sidenote: I was genuinely disappointed that Christina lost Supporting Actress in a Drama.
January Jones in Zac Posen. I hated the dress and I loathed the styling. I might feel differently about the dress if January?s styling had been different, but I can?t unsee this mess. I understand that January?s hair is that color for a film or whatever ? but there?s no excuse for that greasy-looking, unflattering hairstyle, nor for that immature-ish makeup job.
Jessica Pare in Jason Wu ? she was the best dressed of all of the Mad Men women, I thought. That being said, I blame Mad Men?s 17 LOSSES on her and her stupid Megan character.
Elisabeth Moss in Dolce & Gabbana. It was really awful, all of it. I?m sorry, but she can?t pull off this shade of blonde. If she just went up a few shades, it might be better. But this is awful. And I don?t like the dress at all. The material looks dated and the cut of the dress is terrible.

Christina Hendricks showed up at the 2012 Primetime Creative Arts Emmy Awards at the Nokia Theatre in LA looking like a gigantic ink blot test.

These are some photos from Saturday night?s Creative Arts Emmys red carpet ? those are the technical awards for behind-the-scenes people in television, like the makeup people and art directors and such. But as the years go by, more celebrities show up, and the Creative Arts Emmys also give away awards to ?Outstanding Guest Stars? too, so they?ll be guaranteed some ?name? celebrities. First, let?s start with Christina Hendricks. You know I love her. You know I think she can?t dress her body, like, practically ever. This Jenny Packham dress will go down as one of Christina?s worst in a long line of unfortunate decisions. Everything is kind of awful here ? the too-big print, the colors, and that crap on the shoulder. If you took off the shoulder detail and changed the fabric to a solid jewel-tone? it might actually be pretty.
Jeremy Davies won Outstanding Guest Star for Justified. LOOK AT HIM. He?s amazing!
Martha Plimpton won for The Good Wife (she?s so awesome in her guest starring role!). Martha wore Christian Siriano. I don?t hate it. I don?t think she?s a very fashionable woman (nothing wrong with that), so I?m just giving her some props for finding something that fit and wasn?t awful.
Neil Patrick Harris, because I know a lot of you have a crush on him.
Emily Deschanel in vintage. Eh. I think the styling is way off (her makeup is a mess) and the dress isn?t all that.
Malin Akerman?s dress has been called ?daring? and ?plunging?. I guess they don?t get much cleavage at the Creative Arts Emmys. It?s an okay look.
Jennifer Morrison in a red Romona Keveza gown ? very pretty. My one complaint is that I would love to see her go a few shades darker with her hair. I just don?t care for her as a blonde.
