Amber Heard is currently plugging her new movie, When I Live My Life Over Again, which features her as a punk rock singer (alongside Christopher Walken). I guess she and Johnny Depp are perfectly fine now. They’ve always had a strange relationship (even before it officially began), so this is really no different from the usual weirdness. Maybe they’ll soon make a hundred babies like Johnny once boasted. Johnny is 51 now, but maybe he has the energy to deal with diapers.
Amber has a new interview with E! Online to talk about women in Hollywood. She says this punk-rock role is a well-rounded one, unlike most parts. I can’t judge because I haven’t watched all of Amber’s filmography (only Syrup, All of the Boys Love Mandy Lane, The Rum Diary, and some horror remake). She played tough-yet-sexy in all of those movies. Hollywood promotes that conceit. If you’re a tough woman, you also have to flash some flesh. Amber always wanted to be the next Jolie, so she gravitated towards films where she played “hot girl with triceps wearing a tank top.” Now Amber talks about being frustrated with her decade-long run in Hollywood, which hasn’t led to more substantial roles:
On finding less sexy roles: “It’s been what I’ve fought for since the first day on the scene. Superficial is far less interesting primarily because it’s the result of things that are out of my control, so it’s independent of one’s character and how one looks. It can help define one’s character but looks in and of themselves are not the result of any hard work, bravery, substance, etc. I fought really hard to find roles that weren’t defined by their sexuality.”
You can’t be taken seriously if you’re sexy: “I’ve been in this business for 12 years or something and it’s incredibly frustrating to be able to just now be trusted or given roles like this because this industry’s very hard on women, because you’re constantly asked to choose between one of two archetypes: sexy or not. And within the ‘not,’ you perhaps can acquire for yourself a few different traits, but they’re going to be severely limited. The story’s not going to be about you. In the former, it’s completely unfulfilling work to undergo and it’s not fulfilling for an audience to watch. It’s incredible frustrating that a system is in place where you have to choose one or the other. I should not have to choose to be taken seriously or to be beautiful. I finally get to do a role without any of that sh*t, it’s about a character and her issues and her problems and her journey.”
The industry’s problem: “I try to find ways to make my characters stronger, independent. I’ve always chosen strong women, smart women, I’ve always chosen to protect myself as best I can, but the really f***ed up thing is that nobody has any incentive in this industry to invest in something other than what can be seen in you or what’s the easiest thing to do.”

I do feel for Amber because she describes the plight of many actresses. She nabs the "sexy sidekick" or "object of desire" roles. Victory is bittersweet. Amber recently entered her late 20s, and she's finally been named a rising star. She's still appearing alongside 60-year-old "action dudes" like Kevin Costner. Leading men and younger love interests are completely typical of Hollywood standards. Amber has room to complain about those silly stereotypes. At the same time ... she needs to realize how she reinforces those standards in real life by marrying a decades-older guy like Johnny Depp.
Amber also previously complained about superficiality as she posed for a sex-ay shoot. Amber's a little shortsided, but perhaps she's taking after a certain someone who whined about how actor-musicians make him "sick" as he formed a rock supergroup with Alice Cooper and Joe Perry.

Here are photos of Amber Heard at the Tribeca premiere of Adderall Diaries. This is another James Franco production starring James Franco. Pamela Romanowsky officially directed, but I’m sure this movie is all Franco-ed out. Hollywood Reporter calls the film “a tale of abuse and cloudy memory that is almost as confused as its hero.” The abuse in question is an overuse of the prescription drug Adderall (as part of a murder mystery), but Franco insists he knows nothing about the drug in real life. He seems so scattered/ADHD though. If Franco could focus on a few projects at a time, his talent could shine. Instead, he does everything halfway and literally falls asleep on film sets, in seminars, and while teaching. What I’m staying is that this movie won’t do anything for Amber’s career.
Amber looks good in this Stella McCartney suit. Stella’s designs are usually dreadfully unflattering, but Amber’s rocking this suit better than the dudes at the premiere. Johnny Depp couldn’t make it to NYC. He used to attend even her tiniest events, but he’s still recovering from that strange hand injury. Johnny’s not working on Pirates 5 yet, although producers are getting antsy. Johnny’s go-carting accident cost the film tons of money, but the budget is already huge. What’s a few more millions down the drain? I’m including photos of Ed Harris, Franco, Cynthia Nixon, and Christian Slater in the gallery.
Here are some pics of Amber and pals at the Wednesday Tiffany event in NYC. Amber’s wearing The Row, which surprises me. Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen usually don’t design sultry, “I just rolled out of bed” clothes, but the rust color is nice. Olivia is wearing a tassled Marchesa nightmare. Reese is wearing Oscar de la Renta, which looks more peplum-y than the catalogue version. Reese’s styling makes this look like another little navy-blue dress.

This news is a surprise! The last time we talked about Johnny Depp and Amber Heard, the big story was that the two lovebirds were due to marry this weekend on Johnny’s private Bahamas island. They must have been throwing us off the gossip scent because Amber and Johnny got married yesterday. The ceremony took place at Johnny’s home. I wonder if they’re still heading out to the island this weekend? Maybe they’ll throw a party for their celeb friends on Johnny’s yacht. Whatever goes down, Amber is officially Mrs. Depp now. Us Weekly just published the exclusive announcement:
They just couldn’t wait! Johnny Depp and Amber Heard have officially tied the knot, sources reveal to Us Weekly. The couple decided to say “I do” just days before their scheduled ceremony in the Bahamas.
An insider tells Us that the bride and groom married at Depp’s West Hollywood home on Tuesday, Feb. 3. They will next jet off to his private island in the Bahamas for a second service.
“It will be a really simple ceremony,” a source previously told Us of the tropical getaway. “Things are in a great place with them.”

Us also got the first scoop on the engagement, so this is a done deal, folks. Can you believe it? I honestly had some major doubts about whether serial proposer Johnny would ever walk down the aisle again. But Amber nailed it down, and good for her. Also practical: Johnny in close proximity to his scarf closet before the ceremony. You know it took him forever to get dressed. Congrats to the happy couple!

When I first glimpsed these photos, the mental caption that popped into my evil mind was “Amber Heard and grandpa.” Yes, I’m a terrible person. These are photos of Johnny Depp and his lady arriving at the Tokyo airport. Amber’s sticking out the relationship for now. Some people believe these two are already married because Johnny’s wearing a gold band on his important finger. This is probably another mangagement ring.
The SAGs took up yesterday’s gossip beat here, so the internet has had plenty of time to reflect upon the newest Depp box-office disaster. This isn’t even a new pattern from a former box-office king. Only a few months ago, we spoke about Transcendence, which opened with $11 million (on a $100 budget). Mortdecai performed even worse — $4.2 million (on a $60 million budget). What on earth could cost that much money besides Johnny and Goop? Maybe the ‘stache allowance was huge.
Countless outlets have gone hard on Johnny after this soft opening. Forbes promises that Johnny will lead the overpaid actor list this year. No one understands why he’s allowed keep churning out big budget clunkers. The Lone Ranger, Dark Shadows, and The Rum Diary all failed to make money too. Lori Petty had a point last year. No actress would own a private island after even two consecutive flops. Even worse, Johnny doesn’t care about these diminishing returns.
Johnny still draws admirers in Japan. He greeted a throng of screaming fans wearing Mortdecai moustaches. Perhaps the movie will make up some slack, but it won’t be enough.

Showing some love to his English fans, Johnny Depp headed over to Empire Leicester Square in London for the premiere of his new film ?Mortdecai? last night (January 19).
Joined by his lovely lady Amber Heard, the ?Pirates of the Caribbean? hunk was dressed all in black as he greeted the press and posed for photographs.
In a new interview, Depp took shots at his fellow actors who try to double as musicians while lacking the talent to reasonably do so. "That whole idea for me is a sickening thing, it's always just made me sick. I've been very lucky to play on friends' records and it's still going. Music is still part of my life.... But you won't be hearing The Johnny Depp Band. That won't ever exist. The kind of luxury now is, anybody with a certain amount of success, if you have a kind of musical being, you can go out and start a band and capitalize on your work in other areas.?

They?re quite the adorable couple and on Thursday (January 15) Johnny Depp and Amber Heard stepped out together in Los Angeles.
The ?Into the Woods? hunk and his ?Rum Diary? dame headed over to ?Jimmy Kimmel Live? where Depp was slated to promote his new movie ?Mortdecai.? And during his interview, Johnny explained how his 15-year-old daughter Lily Rose tends to help him come up with his quirky characters.
"We played a lot of Barbies, my daughter and I. I used to test characters on her. One day we were playing Barbies, and she just decided to go 'Daddy, just do it normal, how 'bout???
Depp went on to credit Lily Rose with shaping his Willy Wonka and Captain Jack Sparrow personas.

Johnny Depp and Amber Heard attended the Art of Elysium gala last night. This was Johnny’s first big event since he drunkenly courted a microphone at the HFAs. Johnny cleaned himself up for the event but still managed to wear several necklaces. He’s so exhausting with the sunglasses on the red carpet. Amber wore vintage Dior and looks gorgeous, but a drapey cowl neck gets me almost every time. She accessorized with funky earrings and her giant engagement ring. Her whole vibe would have been quite elegant if not for the awkwardness of Johnny. He’s not into these fashion-y events, but they’re proving that they’re in a good place now as a couple.
Johnny and Amber kissed for the cameras too. Okay, maybe it wasn’t for the cameras, but they knew we’d be watching.

Laura Prepon swooshed onto the carpet in a custom red Christian Siriano dress. She looks stunning, but I could have done without the weird, Deadwood-esque dust ruffle that extended from waist to hem. Otherwise, the red dress, pale skin, and dark hair is a winning combo.
Angie Harmon worked it in … Zac Posen? I could be wrong. Angie’s worn Zac in the past. Angie never seems to age, but she overdid the spray tan for this event. Girls up, leg out. Get it.
Jena Malone overdressed for this event like she’s prone to do. I call this dress “couture Pilgrim.” Perhaps a funky, piece-y updo could have offset the severity of the dress?
Amy Smart wore a weird, asymmetrical black dress that looks great on her figure. The fluttery black one-sleeve detail is a little too Elvira and a major distraction. Her hair is so weighed down with product that it appears greasy. Amy’s wearing Chelsea Paris Izzy pumps.
Here’s a photo of Allison Tolman at the pre-BAFTA event. This dress pattern is a little too busy, but it’s sorta scroll-down fug too. If Alison cropped the look before the black panel and red peekaboo sandals appeared, she could have pulled it off.

Last week, I asked the “where is Johnny Depp?” question. Johnny materialized on Saturday on the Yoga Hosers set. You can see a picture of him here. He’s covered in prosthetics, of course. Johnny doesn’t play “normal” anymore, and this Kevin Smith movie may be as ridiculous as Mortdecai looks.
For months, we’ve heard about how Johnny and Amber Heard were having problems after Johnny’s drunken HFAs speech. E! has a new story about Johnny and Amber rekindling their chemistry at Johnny’s mom’s birthday party. E! has a photo of Johnny and Amber in a car together. They enjoyed a “relaxed, comfortable,” and romantic evening:
Apparently, these two have turned a new leaf in the New Year.
Following a string of reports speculating that Johnny Depp and fiance Amber Heard are headed for a split, the couple, who got engaged in January 2014 after meeting on the set of the 2011 film The Rum Diary, attended an 80th birthday party for Depp’s mom, which also served as an NYE bash, at West Hollywood’s Ago restaurant on Wednesday.
The attractive couple was photographed in the car together arriving at the eatery, and while Depp’s mug is barely visible in the pic (with the exception of his blue shades), Heard looked gorgeous, wearing a rose-colored eye shadow and bright red lips.
According to a source, the Italian restaurant, which is co-owned by Robert De Niro, was rented out for the occasion, and the low-key soiree served as a family friendly evening.
“Everyone had a great time,” the source said, adding that the party was “relaxed and comfortable” and “a great way to start 2015.”
The couple snuck in and out of the private bash, where guests included family and close friends, in an attempt to keep a low profile. And while the two found themselves at the center of breakup reports just one month prior, the insider says the couple is heading into the New Year with their romance stronger than ever.
“Amber and Johnny are really happy,” the source said of the Heard, 28, and Depp, 51, who have been known to have a roller-coaster relationship. “And their relationship is in a really good place.”

E! goes on to say that Johnny and Amber stayed at the party until 1:00 am. Dude is 51, how does he do it? I stay up almost every night until midnight, and New Year’s Eve still tires me out. E! also stresses that Johnny and Amber are both very “intense people” with “extreme personalities.” Remember when we heard about Johnny proposing to Amber because “she’s such a free spirit“? Either something has changed, or something is amiss with what’s being fed to the press. Amber previously admitted to feeding false stories to her friends to trick the press, so it’s hard to iron out the truth.
