While seemingly every female celebrity is trying to carve a slice of the lucrative beauty/skincare/makeup industry, the real money seems to be in liquor. Specifically, celebrity-owned and branded liquor labels. George Clooney was obviously one of the biggest names to do this he and Rande Gerber started Casamigos tequila years ago, seemingly when they were drunk on vacation in Cabo. They ended up selling the Casamigos label/brand for $1 billion in 2017, four years after they started it. What a return on an investment, right? And it was basically just their pet project, their little boutique (ish) high-quality tequila label. Anyway, other celebrities obviously took note. In 2018, Ryan Reynolds bought a big stake in Aviation Gin, and he?s done a lot of work behind-the-scenes with the brand, including masterminding that brilliant social media ad with the Peloton actress. And it paid off, big time.
It seems that more and more celebrities are diversifying their portfolios by getting into the liquor and wine industry, and given that Ryan Reynolds just sold his Aviation American Gin brand for an estimated $610 million its easy to see the appeal. Diageo?the worlds largest spirits and beers producer?has acquired the gin brand co-owned by the actor in a deal that could be worth up to $610 million. As part of the deal, Diageo will pay $335 million upfront with an additional $275 million possible payday depending on Aviations performance over the next 10 years.
In 2018, Reynolds purchased a stake in the gin brand, founded in 2006, and as part of this new deal will retain an ?ongoing ownership stake.? In addition to Aviation Gin, Diageo also acquired Astral Tequila, Sombra Mezcal and TYKU Sake from the brands parent company Davos Brands LLC.
In a press release announcing the acquisition, Reynolds wrote, ?A little over two years ago, I became an owner of Aviation Gin because I love the taste of Aviation more than any other spirit. What I didn?t expect was the sheer creative joy learning a new industry would bring. Growing the brand with my company, Maximum Effort Marketing, has been among the most fulfilling projects I?ve ever been involved with. I want to thank Diageo for their incredible team and passion. We?re so excited for the next chapter of Aviation Gin, which, I promise, will require just as little reading.?

If I could go back and do it all again and somehow be rich and famous that time around, I would totally invest in a start-up liquor label and just sit back and wait for the money to come rolling in. Seriously, owning a big stake in a liquor label really does seem like the best ?side project? business in Hollywood now. Now, Ryan isn?t going to see even half of that $610 million figure he just owns a stake in the label, and clearly, he still wants to be involved in the company. But this is probably the easiest money he?s ever made.

Before I get to this puff piece about Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively, it?s worth noting that they were recently in the news for a weird and bad reason. The Knot and Pinterest took the extraordinary step of banning all photos from weddings which take place on former plantations. Blake and Ryan got married on a plantation, and so a lot of sites lead with ?The Knot and Pinterest banned photos of Blake and Ryan?s wedding!? First of all, Blake did give photos of the wedding to Martha Stewart Weddings, but they didn?t show a lot of it. Second, I grew up in the South and it?s really difficult to find any historical property or site in the South which does not have some dark backstory involving slavery, the Confederate Army or the Civil War. I understand why The Knot and Pinterest did what they did and it was a good call. But I also think that some (white) people don?t even know that their wedding venue was the site of some awful atrocity. Then again, Blake did write that ?allure of antebellum? thing, so maybe she knew it was awful and that?s why she chose it.
Now, on to the fluff! Ryan Reynolds is promoting his Michael Bay-Netflix movie 6 Underground and he was asked what he and Blake binge-watch. His answer surprised me:

Michael Bay, Reynolds revealed they most enjoy watching the cooking reality show, The Great British Bake Off.
?You weren?t expecting that, were you?? the Deadpool star joked. ?We live in a world that?s pretty divisive right now and there?s a lot going on. And I like that show just because it?s a nice thing to watch at night. Everybody on the show is nice to each other, which I find refreshing. It?s sort of sweet. It?s not really about anything that?s going to remind you of chaos.?

GBBO is on-brand for Blake but not on-brand for Ryan. But I can see how he would have gotten drawn into it GBBO is so soothing and restful and peaceful. CB and I talked about that on episode 31 of the Gossip with Celebitchy podcast GBBO is set in a lovely tent on peaceful English property, surrounded by beautiful flowers and greenery. All of the contestants have soft British accents and they care so much about baking cakes and sometimes someone cries while they?re watching their muffins rise. I could see Ryan watching it to humor Blake and then getting really involved with who *should* win and whose cake looks half-baked.

People were bizarrely calling this in the comments of some Taylor Swift stories the past few weeks apparently, it?s been something of a Snake Fam ?conspiracy? that Taylor has given her fans some clues about? Blake Lively being pregnant again. Blake and Taylor are friendly, and it would make sense if Taylor knew about Blake?s pregnancy months ago. I guess. Anyway, Blake confirmed her third pregnancy last night on the red carpet premiere of Pokmon Detective Pikachu in New York.
Blake?s not part of the movie, but her husband Ryan Reynolds is the voice of Pikachu. Actors always get props when they really commit to doing voice work in movies like Pikachu. Think of how much good press Bradley Cooper got for voicing a raccoon in the Marvel movies, you know? And kids love Ryan. Anyway, Blake?s presence already made the premiere a big event, but the fact that she debuted her bump makes it an international headline. Well played. In case you?re wondering, their daughter James (the eldest daughter) is 4 years old and their second daughter, Inez, is 2 years old (will be three in October). They?ve spaced out their babies pretty well.
Blake?s maternity look is Retroftes Rebecca Dress. Lots of women wore yellow on this carpet because Pikachu is yellow. She?s always such a glowing pregnant lady pregnancy really agrees with her, right? That being said, I hate this hair trend those curls are not natural, it just looks like she got an ?80s style perm.

Here are some photos of Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds at the New York premiere of Deadpool 2, which is going by DP2 in promotional material. The Deadpool franchise is Ryan?s baby, and it?s been built with Ryan?s blood, sweat and tears. Blake knows that. So she?s always a little bit extra when she helps support her husband for Deadpool duty.
For the premiere, Blake wore a Brandon Maxwell dress in the ?Deadpool colors? of black and red. She paired the dress with Louboutin heels, Lorraine Schwartz jewelry and a Judith Leiber clutch that looked like a ?party mix tape.? Thoughts on the ensemble? I always think Blake looks like one part needs a minor tweak to be absolutely perfect, and for this look, I would say that it was her hair that needed the tweak. The combo of the too-long earrings with the flattened hair is not great. But otherwise, it?s fine and she looks cute here.
On the red carpet, Ryan talked about how in real life, he?s a lot different than Deadpool, obviously. He told People: ?Oh, I?m a little more [sentimental]. I can lay it on pretty thick. I?ve always been sentimental ? since I was a kid.?

Yesterday, Ryan Reynolds got his star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. I?ve gotten used to barely even looking at the photos from the Walk of Fame ceremonies, because usually there are no big surprises and usually the photos are pretty boring. But Ryan gave us something new: the very first photo-op with his wife and two daughters. I think baby James (the oldest girl) has been photographed once or twice in blurry paparazzi photos, but never like this. As it turns out, James has oodles of personality. She has more pizzazz than both of her parents combined. James totally dominated the Walk of Fame ceremony, literally grabbing the mic and running around, happily posing for the photographers but not how her mom and dad wanted her to pose.
Obviously, the photographers and assembled media outlets were beyond pleased. They thought they were in for a fairly mundane photo op and they got the first look at both daughters. I think James looks so much like her mom, right? And that curly hair! So cute. As for the baby? Blake gave birth to her in September and we still don?t have the baby?s name. I?ve still got my fingers crossed for Girl Michael.
What else? James wore a $200 jacket from Coach (which is already sold out). Blake?s dress is Atelier Versace (and it?s hella tight). Blake also wrote a nice tribute to Ryan on her Instagram ? go here to see.

Ryan Reynolds FINALLY got a hit franchise. He?s been trying for years. And it finally happened for him with Deadpool! Going into the weekend, box-office analysts were trying to hedge their bets and say that Deadpool would do well, of course, but that it would probably make something like $55-65 million in its opening. Nope. Deadpool broke a ton of records to open with $135 million (and that?s just domestic B.O.). It?s the biggest opening for an R-rated film, biggest opening for a February release and biggest opening for Ryan in a starring role.
The foul-mouthed, extremely R-rated Wade Wilson is our newest record-breaking box office hero. Deadpool bowed to an estimated $135 million this weekend, becoming the first R-rated movie ever to break $100 million in its opening weekend. Already making back its $58 million production budget, the Ryan Reynolds-starring superhero flick sped past all expectations and could earn as much as $150 million over the four-day holiday weekend. That?s more than double initial predictions of about $65 million.
Deadpool also earned the biggest February opening weekend ever and demolished the President?s Day record set by Fifty Shades of Grey, which debuted last year to $85.2 million over three days and $93 million over four.
Reynolds spent years trying to convince studios that an R-rated superhero movie would work, and if Deadpool?s success is any indication, we should be seeing more of them soon. With an A CinemaScore, Deadpool is now 20th Century Fox?s biggest opening ever, and it surpassed the openings of PG-13-rated superhero movies like Man of Steel ($116.6 millon), Captain America: The Winter Soldier ($95 million), and Guardians of the Galaxy ($94.3 million). A Deadpool sequel hasn?t officially been announced, but Fox and the screenwriters have all but confirmed that it?s going to happen.

While comic-book movies are not my jam, and I?m meh on Ryan as a person for the most part, I?m happy that this turned out to be so successful. He really did spend years trying to make this happen, and he spent a lot of time and energy to promote this on social media and beyond. I?m glad it worked out for him and that he?s finally got his franchise.
Meanwhile, in the ?sad clown noise? area of the box office, Zoolander 2 opened in fourth place behind Kung Fu Panda 3 and How To Be Single. Zoolander made $15.6 million over three days, which barely justifies the amount of money the studio spent on the promotional tour, you know? It didn?t help that once people actually watched the movie, they didn?t like it that much. The film got terrible reviews and it?s Certified Rotten on Rotten Tomatoes with 22%. Which made this little item in Page Six a little bit sad ? apparently, at the NYC premiere last week, Jennifer Aniston was grilling industry types about how the box office tracking was doing.

When I saw that People Magazine had given Ryan Reynolds the title of ?Sexiest Dad Alive,? I developed a case of Hyperactive Eye-roll Syndrome. Of course People Mag would give him this nonsense title and of course they would do it in conjunction with the release of Deadpool, which comes out on Friday. But? then I read the quotes. And they?re sweet. Like, legitimately, no-bulls?t sweet. Ryan is so happy to be a husband and father. He adores his wife and daughter to a fantastic, aw-inducing degree.
Growing up, Ryan Reynolds was always surrounded by boys. The youngest of four boys and the son of a cop, Reynolds was ?less a sibling and more of a moving target,? he tells PEOPLE in this week?s cover story. So when his wife, Blake Lively, gave birth to their daughter James, whom Reynolds adoringly calls ?Shrimpie,? in December 2014, he was overjoyed.
?Having a daughter was a dream come true for me,? he says. ?I would have made a terrible king.?
Reynolds, 39, says he has no problem ?being surrounded by estrogen? as the only man in the house. In fact, it?s what the Deadpool star says he secretly hoped for when he first found out Lively, 28, was pregnant.
?I never admitted it out loud, to myself or my wife, but I really wanted a little girl,? he says. ?It?s the best.?
And Reynolds, PEOPLE?s former Sexiest Man Alive, says he?s been transformed into a completely doting dad.
?I don?t have to prepare to be wrapped around my daughter?s finger,? he says. ?I have been wrapped around her little finger since the day she plopped out into this world.?

That?s quite common though, isn?t it? I think many men really do ?secretly? want a daughter when they learn that their partners are pregnant. And Ryan sounds so sweet here. Is it all for Deadpool promotion? Sure. But I also buy that he?s totally the happiest he?s ever been.
Meanwhile, there are a million other quotes and news items about Deadpool. Apparently, Ryan flashes his bits and pieces during one fight sequence, and he told E! News that he was fine with doing nudity: “There should be more male nudity in movies. I’m just saying that because women are typically exploited in the worst ways?so I feel like you got to kind of even it out a little bit. Although, yeah, I don’t know. Maybe we should limit all of it just a little bit.”
Ryan also spoke to Variety about Deadpool?s sexuality. In the comics, Deadpool is pansexual, or at the very least, bisexual. Deadpool comes on to men and women equally. But in the film, Deadpool is just straight and having sex with women. Well, in a rare step of sex-positivity, Ryan made a public statement saying that he would be totally fine with Deadpool having a boyfriend in the future. As in, maybe we?ll get some Deadpool-on-dude action in the sequel, which is already in the works.

Ryan Reynolds covers the October issue of GQ. Even though the orange is really strong with Ryan at all times these days, I still think this is a nice editorial. The October issue is GQ?s ?How To? issue, and Ryan?s interview ? which he did to support Mississippi Grind ? is mostly about fatherhood, marriage and how his life has been completely changed by Blake Lively and baby James. For what it?s worth, I think he absolutely adores his life now and this is probably the happiest we?ve ever seen him. You can read the full GQ interview here. Some highlights:
Fatherhood advice: ?The one piece of advice I would say is: Don?t listen to any advice. Because there?s nothing you can do to prepare for it. I?ve learned that an inordinate amount of clichs are completely true. Like, there is this kid here that I would walk through fire for. Or maybe not fire. Like, a very hot pavement, I?d walk through. A shag rug.?
Whether he?s surprised by how he took to fatherhood: ?I think I am, yeah. I can?t say I had an easy relationship with my father, and I can?t say my brothers did either, but I look at each of my older brothers, and they?re all fathers, and they?re all great fathers. So I had some good examples. But I don?t think you really necessarily need examples. You just try to not be a complete pile of sh-t and just be there for them. You know, I like it: I mean that in the heaviest context. I genuinely like it. I like being a father. I like having a daughter. I would like to have more kids. You know, it seems to suit me pretty well.?
They still don?t have a nanny: ?I?m surprised how patient I am with it. I feel like I could sometimes have a bit of a short fuse, but there?s just been this weirdly endless supply of patience. I have no problem waking up five times in the middle of the night and changing diapers, and as exhausted as you get, I have this stupid grin on my face all the time. And that?s not because I have a nanny or something like that. It?s just us right now, and I love it.?
He?s trying not to brag about his kid: ?I get why parents have that sort of predisposition to talk about their child as if they?re the only people that have ever copulated and pumped out a kid. I understand that. I don?t f–king fall victim to it, because, especially celebrities, when they talk about their kid, they talk about their kid like they?re the Chosen One, or they?re the only people who have ever had a child? I find it to be really obnoxious. In fact, every time I talk about my kid in public, I?m generally talking about how average she is. But at home, I?m like, ?You?re a genius! Oh, my God! You just took a sh-t in your diaper that came out as a perfect musical note!??
Judgy mommy bloggers judging him: ?Yeah, ?Can I just make some mistakes and all of you just f–k off?? Yeah. You want to be able to say that. But you can?t say that. There is almost no community on Earth as intense as the parent-child online community.?

The rest of the piece is a really good read too, so I?d highly recommend it. Ryan comes across as a dick a few times, then he catches himself and clarifies. He talks about how he?s never been nominated for an Oscar and why that?s not his priority. He even acknowledges that even with all of the false starts in his career and all of the bombs that have been put on his shoulders, he still likes where he is and he?s lucky to still be working so much, and that probably wouldn?t be the case if he was a woman or a black actor. All in all, it?s one of the best interviews I?ve ever read with him.

Ryan Reynolds is promoting his new film, Woman In Gold. I keep hearing that this film is bad, which is weird because every time I see the trailer, I think it looks completely enjoyable, perhaps even award-worthy (mostly because Helen Mirren is an international treasure). Is it a tedious and basic film or do you think I would actually like it? Anyway, Ryan appeared on the Tonight Show last night and of course, he ended up talking about Sweet Baby James, his daughter. Except Ryan is very careful not to name her. So I guess we?re still playing that game.
He says that Baby James is ?allergic to sleep,” or perhaps protecting her parents ?from the sleep monsters.? So James is crying a lot and refusing to sleep? The baby is only two months old! She has stuff to say. Perhaps she?s crying so much because she realizes her parents named her JAMES.
Ryan also said: ?The trick I try to use is that Baby Einstein stuff, but for me, that’s like horse tranquilizer. I could go down on a lit stove. You could push me out of an airplane.? But at the end of the day, “She’s got me wrapped around her finger. I am a slave to the rhythm?I can’t wait. It’s just going to be teatime every day with her.”
