We?ve got even more highlights from Jennifer Aniston?s InStyle cover interview for the February issue. Even though I was complaining about some missteps by Jennifer?s Oscar strategist (like letting Aniston talk endlessly about her tabloid persona), I do think putting Jennifer on the cover of InStyle was a smart move. InStyle is still on every newsstand, like Cosmo or Glamour, but InStyle has a better, more People Magazine-like audience. It was good timing to get her on the February cover. And to parcel out the good quotes over the course of two days! Yesterday, we heard Jennifer tell some lies about when she got together with Justin Theroux. In today?s excerpts, we hear some of her thoughts about Botox and plastic surgery.
She denies Botoxing: “I just take care of my skin, eat well, exercise. And I love lasers and [other noninvasive treatments like] Thermage [radio frequency] and Ultherapy [ultrasound]. I also like a good microcurrent facial.”
Why she hasn?t gone under the knife like so many actresses: “People lose perspective. I look around and see how bad plastic surgery and injections can really kick you in the ass.?
Her skincare secret? Sleep and water, which she says are “your best bets for really great skin.” Additionally, she sees a naturopathic doctor, who recommends taking fish oil and a probiotic, and when it comes to makeup, the gorgeous stunner swears by “everything from Chanel.”
Her Cake character: “This one, well, she’s really banged up. For two months there were no mirrors to look at, no manicurists. Nothing. The hardest part for me was when they said, ‘Don’t work out.’ I said, ‘But I have to.’ And then I realized, Oh. When you’re not working out, your levels of joy just go down, down, down. And it’s not that easy to get the weight off once you stop working out. You say to your body, ‘Hey, what’s going on?’ But that’s just the 40s.”
She eats pasta these days: ?Blasphemy, I know. I never ate pasta. I?ve been allowing myself a lot more in the past few years. Which does make it harder to lose those last few pounds. But you have to live. And so what? You go up a size. What?s the big deal??

No Botox? except for that time that she tried Botox (for like six months). And no plastic surgery? except for her nose work (and maybe some lip injections). And just sleep and water? and thousands of dollars? worth of laser treatments, peels, facials, Ultratherapy, vitimins, and lots of Chanel products. Because that Aveeno crap is for poor people, amirite? Wait, she?s the face of Aveeno and she didn?t even shill for them in this interview?! Whoa. As for her ?bad plastic surgery and injections? comment, she needs to say something to Courtney Cox. For real. CC has just ruined her beauty completely.
Oh, I also learned that this interview took place on her ?gray cashmere couch in her living room? while she sipped ?passion fruit iced tea.? She has a gray cashmere COUCH? I bet that?s a bitch to clean.

This post is just for some assorted Jennifer Aniston stories percolating through the system. Aniston?s Oscar strategist has been doing a good job getting the right kind of stories out there, and getting Aniston to do the right kind of interviews and profiles. And it is paying off. At the Hollywood International Film Festival in Capri, Jennifer tied with Amy Adams for the Best Actress Award. Aniston wasn?t in Capri to receive the award in person, probably because she was still on vacation in Cabo.
Jennifer will also receive the Montecito Award at the Santa Barbara International Film Festival later this month ? the SBIFF gives out awards like candy, for what it?s worth. Previous winners of the Montecito Award (and award for ?a performer who has given a series of classic and standout performances throughout his or her career and whose style has made a major contribution to film?) to Julianne Moore, Kate Winslet, Oprah Winfrey, Daniel Day-Lewis, Javier Bardem and more. Aniston is being honored along with (no joke) Michael Keaton, Steve Carell, Ethan Hawke, Felicity Jones, Patricia Arquette, Jenny Slate, Rosamund Pike, JK Simmons, David Oyelowo, Ethan Hawke, Chadwick Boseman and a partridge in a pear tree.
Meanwhile, CBS released some video clips of Aniston?s sit-down interview with Sunday Morning. We already read some quotes from this interview ? Aniston talking about the tabloids and how it?s all a soap opera, etc. She was asked about the still-constant headlines about Brad Pitt and their eleven-year-old split and she said: “I don’t find it painful. I think it’s a narrative that follows you because it’s an interesting headline. It’s more of a media-driven topic.” When asked if she keeps in touch with Brad, she said: “We’ve exchanged good wishes an all that sort of stuff to each other, but it’s not a constant thing.” Here are two clips:
What bugs me is that the clips make it seem like Jennifer just talked about tabloid nonsense rather than her performance in Cake. That?s not necessarily on her though ? the interviewer wouldn?t shut up about how Jennifer is the most famous and pap-stalked person in the world, ever (I mean, except for Angelina Jolie, amirite?????). She also blames ?sexism? for the tabloid focus on her relationships and whether she?ll have babies. Which? eh. Whatever, Jen. I give up. I?m letting the cake wash over me. *rocks back & forth*

Good lord, this really looks like an old photo of Jennifer Aniston, right? Like Allure used a photo from 2004 for their cover. Hm. Anyway, Jennifer covers the January issue of Allure to promote Cake, which has already garnered Golden Globe and SAG Best Actress nominations for Aniston (plus, she got a Critics Choice nomination yesterday as well). Aniston has really upped her interview game for her presumptive Oscar campaign ? last week, her THR interview was actually interesting and lucid. These quotes from Allure are also pretty interesting in that it?s not just random, spacey thoughts and New Age-speak. Some highlights:
Why ?feminism? is seen as complicated: “Because people overcomplicate it. It’s simply believing in equality between men and women. Pretty basic.”
On the questions about pregnancy and children: “I don’t like [the pressure] that people put on me, on women?that you’ve failed yourself as a female because you haven’t procreated. I don’t think it’s fair. You may not have a child come out of your vagina, but that doesn’t mean you aren’t mothering?dogs, friends, friends’ children. I have a lot of friends who decided not to have children, who can’t have children, or are trying but are having a difficult time. There’s all sorts of reasons why children aren’t in people’s lives, and no one has the right to assume. It’s quite rude, insulting and ignorant.”
Her public persona as a woman who was ?too driven? to have babies: “This continually is said about me: that I was so career-driven and focused on myself; that I don’t want to be a mother, and how selfish that is.” Ticking off these accusations now, she seems unfazed. But when it’s suggested to Aniston that maybe she just lets the insinuations roll off her back after so many years of hearing them, she says, “No. Even saying it gets me a little tight in my throat.”
The conversation about ?going ugly for Oscar?: “A woman going physically unattractive is where you get recognition and some sort of respect. You read things like, ‘Oh, finally, she’s acting!’” The actress calls such criticism “quite sexist, to be honest, because men don’t get that.”
On Justin Theroux: “We’re equals. He’s a nurturer. He is so fiercely loyal. Beyond protective. I mean, the way he takes care of our dogs, he takes care of me, he takes care of friends.” Aniston doesn’t say much about their wedding plans. “We do talk about it all the time.?
On Gwyneth Paltrow’s style: “I’ve known her a long time. That woman has got style to the moon and back. Chic, effortless, gorgeous. This sums us up. Look, I’m in a T-shirt, jeans, and 400-year-old shoes, and this one is just, like, to a T. She’s always been sweet to me.”

Props to Jennifer for talking about feminism without sounding like a jackass (coughEvangelineLillycough). And she?s absolutely right, society and the media and other people shouldn?t judge women for their reproductive choices. In general. But what I always say about Jennifer is? she invited them in. She always invited the speculation and conversation about the state of her womb. Until she didn?t. And now she?s got different talking points. Now the speculation is ?rude, insulting and ignorant.? It might have been better if she said that in her 2005 Vanity Fair hit-job interview, right?

Her new film ?Cake? sees her exploring new territory and Jennifer Aniston proves she?s one of the strongest women of her day. In her cover story for Allure January 2015, the ?Friends? actress explains that the role ended up being one of her toughest.
"So much of the exercise was just letting yourself fall apart. A woman going physically unattractive is where you get recognition and some sort of respect. You read things like, 'Oh, finally, she's acting!'"
As for the recent resurgence in the ?feminism? movement, Jen insists it doesn?t have to be so tricky. "It?s complicated because people overcomplicate it. It's simply believing in equality between men and women. Pretty basic."

This might be Jennifer Aniston?s best week in ten years. Easily. And as such, I have to give it to her. She hustled, she played the game, she shilled and shook hands and ignored all of the haters and she got more than she was expecting: within 26 hours, she got a Golden Globe nomination and a SAG nomination, both for Best Actress in film. She?s never gotten a major nomination for her work in film (all of her big awards were for Friends), so? good for her.
She also got to issue statements of thanks on both days. After her SAG nomination, this was her statement: ?This is the best 6 a.m. wake up call ever. Words can’t describe how blessed I feel to be recognized like this by my peers for this film. What an enormous feeling of joy and gratitude.” Then she got the Golden Globe nomination yesterday and she made this statement: ?I?m just humbled. It?s just all happening so fast and so beautifully. The Globes are a big fun party and it?s so fun to celebrate with your peers. My friend Emily [Blunt] is nominated so I?m excited for her. We?re just going to have a fun night.? Yes, a fun night? with no Brangelina showdown! Oh well. I?m sure Aniston has been celebrating for days. Anyway, Aniston also has some new interviews (done before the nominations) and my God, this woman can hustle. From the Hollywood Reporter:
She?s so happy to be talking about work: “I can’t tell you how refreshing it is to be in a conversation that has to do with something other than trite, silly, you know, ‘Are you pregnant?’ ‘When are you this?’ ‘What’s your hair doing?’ You know, or, ‘You’re just a rom-com person!’ Anything just to have a discussion about the work!”
Her future as a dramatic actress: “I want to make great films. I just want to be working with great directors, doing great stories, not just sitting in that one little category. I understand having to earn your way. I also understand earning people?s trust that you are able to do it. It?s a catch-22. It?s like, well, you have to let me do it to show you, but you won?t let me do it because I?m in that category.”
Her early days in LA, working on pilots that never went anywhere: ?I was thrilled to work! I was working more than any of my friends, and I was working way more than I did in New York City. I was like, ?Great, I?ve got a great job. Come to it, go.? So when you don?t have any kind of awareness of that, there?s no barometer. I was just happy to be working.
Being seen as only a comedic actress: ?I mean, and it?s been a frustrating thing, because ? look, I love what I do. I love every job I?ve had, whether they?ve bombed or been successes ? and thankfully, we?ve had more successes than we?ve had failures. But it?s like I was saying: I feel like every actor, or at least the ones that are maybe stereotyped, maybe like myself, or put into a category of “They?re this or they?re not, we?ll keep it that” ? you know, there?s always this actor wanting to get out. We?re all closeted actors like, wanting to do that other part, because we have access to that ability because that?s what we do. We?re actors. So you have to kind of bang your drum a little louder or go get it yourself or go make it yourself, because there is a little bit of a, “No, we don?t see you in that light, and I don?t trust you.” That?s why it?s so fabulous, these young filmmakers actually find it exciting to go, ?Let me put this person, not the expected choice, in that.?
Making a film about chronic pain: ?Well, what?s interesting is in the Q&A last night ? I did a Q&A and this woman said something to the effect of, ?I live with chronic pain, and a lot of people think we?re faking it, and we?re not. We are in severe pain. It took everything in my body, my power to get here tonight, because I wanted to see this movie.? I?ve been getting so much of that, of people saying, ?Thank you for portraying it so beautifully,? which couldn?t be a higher compliment to me, because I didn?t want a false note in any of it. I was trying to do something I had no connection, ? realistic connection ? to, basing it on knowing people and feeling their pain. But also, chronic pain isn?t something that you can diagnose because it?s really a patient to patient sort of declaration of, ?I have pain.? You can?t sort of, you know, give the test and say, ?You, in fact, do have chronic pain.? There are people out there who are kind of just playing it up because they want the drugs.
Being called ?brave? for going without makeup: ?That?s so funny, how that?s so “brave.” I understand it, though. It?s Hollywood.?

I went down a gossip rabbit hole when I was looking up information for this story. As we?ve previewed before, Jennifer Aniston participated in the Los Angeles Times? Best Actress roundtable discussion this year, which the LAT did with EPIX. Aniston did the roundtable with Jessica Chastain (sure), Gugu Mbatha-Raw (absolutely), Shailene Woodley (what?) and Emily Blunt. Blunt was the one I got stuck on ? I thought, ?Wait, does she have some awards-bait this year?? I guess she?s there for Into the Woods? But is Blunt really trying for any awards for that? And Shailene isn?t going to be nominated for anything major either? although out of the group, Shailene and Chastain are the only ones who have managed to get an Oscar nomination in previous years.
Anyway, in the newly released videos, Aniston talks about the physical side of playing a character in chronic pain. Surprisingly enough, this sort of reminded me of some of Eddie Redmayne?s interviews, where he spoke about having to control his movements to a really precise level. At one point, Aniston says:
?I’m always trying to find the great small roles; the stronger sort of slice of life, complex. And I’ve been doing fart jokes for a long time, which I love immensely, but I think it does allow you to sort of take care of business and then you can also spend the time with these little labors of love which I’ve come to discover you sometimes have to create for yourself? I had a lot of empathy for her, well not Dr. Julia – she’s just god awful and just a horn dog. But I felt extreme… She’s extremely horny. But for Claire I just had a lot of empathy for her struggle and I think she is beautiful. And I think her problems and her choices and her journey is beautiful in the fact that we feel empathy for people going through pain.”

We?ve heard the fart thing before. It?s like she?s trying to follow the Jennifer Lawrence Path! Next she?ll be talking about Doritos, obviously. As for the rest of it? I think she?s telling the truth. She really does try to find smaller projects and interesting work in indies and dramas, but the thing is? very few people in Hollywood really want to cast her in those roles. They?re happy enough putting her in rom-coms or another Horrible Bosses, but no one wants to put her in a straight-up drama at this point.

What happens if, after all of her hair-tossing and hustling, Jennifer Aniston doesn?t even get nominated for anything for Cake? I mean, would that be funny or would the schadenfreude be too heavy and we would actually feel sorry for her? I?ve always side-eyed the manufactured (and bought and paid for) ?Oscar hype? around Aniston?s ?going fug for Oscar? role in Cake, but I thought some awards shows would throw her a bone with a nomination or two. But Aniston couldn?t even wrangle an Independent Spirit Award nomination. Cake was completely shut out of the Spirit Awards!!! Oh well? maybe she?ll get a Golden Globe nomination. Snort.
Another thing that puzzled me about the manufactured Oscar buzz? The fact that a trailer hadn?t been cut and released months ago! It?s the weirdest thing. But maybe it had something to do with the fact that no one had any interest in buying Cake? Maybe it had something to do with the last-minute wrangling to get Cinelou a distribution arm, specifically so they could distribute Cake? Whatever it was, it was a bad decision to let all of these weeks go by without releasing a trailer. They finally released one this week:

It does have a decent cast ? Sam Worthington, Anna Kendrick, Felicity Huffman, Adriana Barraza, Sam Worthington, Mamie Gummer and many more. I wonder? would this film have more legitimate buzz if it starred someone like Julianne Moore? Also: does Aniston?s character have a sexual relationship with Sam Worthington? Hm.

The ?Horrible Bosses 2? star put on an inflatable bra before her interview and at one point her chest began growing ever so rapidly.
Aniston and DeGeneres played a game called ?Last Word? in which they both took turns shouting out word substitutes for curse terms.
And by the end of the segment, Jennifer was many times her usual bust size. She joked, ?This is my version of the [Kim Kardashian], but the forward one.?

The ?Friends? star was all smiles in a pair of designer spectacles as she posed for photos ahead of a screening of her new movie ?Cake.?
For the role, Jen transformed into the antithesis of her usual camera-ready, Tinseltown starlet persona.
She explained, ?I basically just didn't work out for two-and-a-half months. I stopped working out and I stopped being as careful about my diet as I normally am. I was still healthy, but I'd allow more.?

I kind of hated Jennifer Aniston?s whole look at last Thursday?s Horrible Bosses 2 premiere in LA. Her Zuhair Murad dress was dated and fug and her Bump-It ponytail was not all that cute. But I guess we?re supposed to think Jennifer?s every hair-move is noteworthy, because People Magazine literally published a story about her premiere-look hair. Seriously. They spoke to her long-time hair guy and BFF Chris McMillan and wrote up a longer article? about Jennifer Aniston?s ponytail. It?s so stupid, but I?ll admit it ? I read every word. It?s part infomercial (for LIVING PROOF, obvs) and partly just? Oscar stuff, I guess. Just keeping her name out there, even if it?s just people talking about her hair. Here?s the article:
There are a few things we know as sure as we know the earth is round. Kim Kardashian is proud of her abs. Chris Hemsworth is the sexiest man alive. And if Jennifer Aniston isn?t wearing her hair down and side-parted, she?s wearing it in a ponytail. She wore it in just such a style at last night?s Hollywood premiere of Horrible Bosses 2, but wait! Her stylist Chris McMillan proved we can still be surprised when it comes to her hair. Read on for three surprising facts about the star?s look last night.
1. Her Bangs Serve Two Purposes. Sure, they look cute, but McMillan tells PEOPLE, they?re really all about the photo op. ?She likes to use her hair as a prop, so she?ll be able to look over and use her fingers to push the hair out of her eyes,? he shares. ?Jennifer Aniston is a pro at having hair in her face and wrangling it out of her face, and making it look effortless and sexy.? (His secret to touchable texture? A little Living Proof Instant Texture Mist ? she?s a co-owner of the brand and he?s the celeb stylist.)
2. She Finds Hair Inspiration at the Drugstore. McMillan has been doing her hair for years, but she still manages to surprise him occasionally ? as she did by suggesting the finishing touch for last night?s pony. ?At Rite-Aid they have these ponytail holders that are two-thirds hair and the other part is the rubber band,? he says. ?Jennifer sent me a picture and was like, ?Look at these things, they?re kind of cool, huh?? So I bought them and I used one of them in her hair [last night]!? 3. Her next hairdo is a purple pixie. Okay, okay, he was joking, but McMillan swears he is convincing the star to mix up her look a bit. ?It?s still within her range, but we?ve been switching things up. She?s not showing up with the same hairdo,? he tells PEOPLE. ?We?ve been talking long, piece-y Alexa Chung-type bangs! I might get her in a weak moment. She?ll kill me, but it?s OK!?

GIVE ANISTON?S HAIR THE OSCAR. Her hair is the best part of Cake, obviously. And good lord, I hope Aniston doesn?t succumb to piece-y Alexa Chung bangs. Alexa?s bangs are awful and I just don?t think Aniston needs that kind of look. As for ?she likes to use her hair as a prop?? You don?t say! She?s built a 20-plus year career in Hollywood out of playing with her hair on camera.
Also: Jennifer told Extra that she was ?the original? when it came to showing her butt on the cover of a magazine.
