I never imagined that this week?s gossip would include a story about Kim Kardashian illegally importing ancient Italian art. It?s super-complicated and the basic gist is that while Kim should have known better, she is not the only person who needs to wear this. In 2016, Kim bought $745,882 worth of art and furniture from Axel Vervoordt Gallery in Belgium. Vervoordt is the designer responsible for Kim and Kanye?s bleak, colorless home in LA, and he seemingly sold Kim some pieces of art from his gallery for her home. The problem is that one of the art pieces, the large fragment of an ancient limestone sculpture, was illegally smuggled out of Italy. And now the feds are demanding that Kim forfeit the sculpture because Italy wants it repatriated. So Kim will have to eat that money.
The U.S. government is seeking the forfeiture of an ancient Roman sculpture that celebrity influencer Kim Kardashian was in the process of acquiring after officials determined that it had been illegally smuggled out of Italy. The statue was detained at the U.S. border in 2016 after a logistics company working for Kardashian tried to import it with the wrong documentation. New legal documents have concluded that the work was ?looted, smuggled, and illegally exported,? and Italian authorities have requested its repatriation.
A civil forfeiture action on April 30 in a U.S. district court named Kardashian as the consignee and importer of the ancient limestone sculpture. According to court documents, Kardashian bought the sculpture, known as Fragment of Myron?s Samian Athena (1st ? 2nd century), in 2016 from Axel Vervoordt Gallery in Belgium. (Vervoordt is the art dealer and interior designer responsible for the decoration of Kardashian?s Calabasas mansion.)
The sculpture was detained when it arrived in Los Angeles in May 2016 after authorities were alerted that it might be protected cultural property. As part of a bilateral agreement to crack down on the pillaging of cultural heritage, the U.S. has restricted imports of archeological material originating from Italy. Any importer now needs clear documentation authorizing the importation or other documents such as an affidavit, license, or permit stating that the export was not in violation of the laws of the country of origin. The sculpture arrived as part of a 5.5-ton shipment described as containing 40 antiques, Modern furniture, and decorative objects, valued at $745,882. It was being imported under a U.S. tariff schedule for ?antiques of an age exceeding 100 years,? as opposed to archeological material.
Officials requested provenance details from the logistics company Masterpiece International, which provided the sculpture?s sales invoice to Kardashian, as well as a previous invoice showing that Vervoordt had purchased the work from Galerie Chenel in Paris in 2012.
Suspicions were raised when authorities noticed a discrepancy in the descriptions of the sculpture on the two invoices, with the 2012 statement describing it as ?a large draped statue? with provenance from an ?Old German Collection, bought before 1980,? and the invoice for the 2016 sale to Kardashian describing it as a ?fragment,? and containing handwritten notations indicating it had originated from Italy. A director from Vervoordt?s art history department, Robert Lauwers, had also provided a contradictory statement by way of an unsworn affidavit stating that the sculpture did not originate from Italy.
The sculpture was seized in June 2016 and, the following month, Italy?s task force for the protection of cultural heritage added a new twist by claiming it had seen (and photographed) the confiscated statue at Vervoordt?s gallery booth at TEFAF Maastricht in 2011, well before Vervoordt purportedly purchased it from Galerie Chenel in 2012.
Ollivier Chenel, a director of Galerie Chenel, told Artnet News that the gallery purchased the sculpture from an auction house in Germany in 2010, and that it had previously come from an English estate. He added that the date discrepancy on the invoice could be explained because the statue had been on loan to Vervoordt before it was officially acquired. ?It is very strange that [the complaint does not mention] the German auction house as the information was given to them at the time,? Chenel said. ?I can guarantee you that this sculpture was acquired legally at Hampel Auction house in 2010.?
Axel Vervoordt and representatives for Kim Kardashian did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

This sounds like it was entirely a fk up on Vervoordt?s part, and his gallery didn?t have all of their ducks in a row and the provenance was always complicated/shady. Basically, the sculpture was taken from Italy and it would up in a German or English private collection, then at some point weird that they can?t pinpoint it it was purchased by Galerie Chenel, then it was purchased by Vervoordt, who then sold it to Kim Kardashian. It was Vervoordt?s gallery which screwed up the documentation, which US Customs caught. It sucks that Kim has to forfeit the sculpture but if I was in her position, I would make it about how happy I am that a piece of Italy?s ancient culture is being returned to its homeland. Put a bow on it, eat that money and move on.

Kim K has been having an interesting few months. Kim filed for divorce in February from husband Kanye West. Then earlier this month Forbes announced that Kim had crossed the billionaire threshold. And it seems that great news keeps pouring in. In case you missed it, Kim has caught the Bridgerton bug like the rest of us. Kim has even been TikToking her reactions to each episode. So, having Nicola Coughlin reach out to Kim via Twitter most definitely brightened Kims day. In Kims and Nicolas Twitter exchange, Nicola shared that Kim and her sisters are the inspiration for Lady Whistledown and the Featherington sisters. Nicola also said that the same designer who made Kims Met Gala corset, Mr. Pearl, also made Nicolas corset for Bridgerton. Below is more on the exchange via Huffington Post:
Coughlan, who plays Penelope Featherington on the hit Netflix series, tweeted on Tuesday that the Kardashians ?were a massive inspiration for the Featheringtons? and a regular topic of conversation during fittings for the Regency-era drama.
She also claimed a link between her corset on the show and one made for Kardashian. ?You?ve been part of the Bridgerton world for longer than you know,? Coughlan wrote.
Kardashian was beyond happy at the news.
?I am freaking out!!!!!? she responded, to Coughlan?s delight and astonishment, before asking if that made her ?an honorary Duchess in Bridgerton.?

This is one of the cutest stories I have read this week. We definitely needed the levity. I follow Nicola on Twitter and she is so refreshing. I really enjoy how Nicola reached out to Kim to tell her that she and her sisters were the inspiration behind the Featheringtons. You can tell that Mrs. Featherington is definitely Kris Jenner-esque in trying to get her daughters married. I also enjoyed how excited this bit of information made Kim. Now that Nicola has confirmed that the Featheringtons were inspired by the Kardashian/Jenner clan, I cant unsee it despite sort of knowing it before. Im going to watch the show to see which sister is which Kardashian. It was also very sweet that Nicola was so excited that her corset was created by the same designer that created Kims Met Gala corset. Nicola seems like a Kim stan. And how precious is it that Nicola made Kim an honorary Lady of Bridgerton? To be fair, with all the royals and billionaire men chasing Kim now that she is single, its not a stretch that Kim could indeed become Lady Kardashian of Calabasas in the near future.

Throughout January and February, Kim Kardashian had some kind of weird deal with People Magazine where they ran weekly exclusives about her headspace and how she was feeling before and then after she filed for divorce from Kanye. It was pretty weird, especially since no one really acknowledged the fact that Kim was basically showing People Mag her diary entries every week and talking about herself in the third person. Well, we?re back to that:
Kim Kardashian and Kanye Wests divorce is proceeding smoothly, a source tells PEOPLE. Kim, 40, filed for divorce from the 43-year-old rapper in February after nearly seven years of marriage. Amid their split, the pair are continuing to prioritize the well-being of their four kids: North, 7, Saint, 5, Chicago, 3 and Psalm, who turns 2 next month.
Kim and Kanye are getting along, the source tells PEOPLE. They have both stayed true to their commitment to make the best situation for the kids. Kim is very happy that they have managed to keep things calm. She thinks Kanye is a good dad. She wants him to be able to spend as much time with the kids as he wants.
The source adds that Kim seems happier since the split, which came after a tumultuous period for the pair. For every week that goes by since she filed for divorce, Kim seems happier, the source says now. She knows that filing for divorce was the right decision. The kids are doing as good as she could hope.
West is requesting joint legal and physical custody of their children, according to a legal response filed by his attorney earlier this month and obtained by PEOPLE last week. Since filing for divorce, Kim and the kids have continued to live in the Hidden Hills mansion she shared with West. A source previously told PEOPLE that thats where the reality star plans on staying.
They both agree that the less stress the kids experience, the better. Kanye loves his kids. He wants them to be happy, the source said. He doesnt want to fight with Kim about anything.

It was no secret that Kim Kardashian was and is insanely jealous of her half-sister Kylie Jenner. Kylie built a massively successful business (Kylie Cosmetics) out of her childhood room, and at Kris Jenner?s kitchen table. Kylie Cosmetics has grown into a billion-dollar business because Kylie was just doing something somewhat organic to her (lip kits) and she ended up finding a hole in the cosmetics market. Kylie also had so little overhead for the entire business. So, yeah, Kim was jealous. She was dying to create her own billion-dollar business but for the longest time, Kim?s businesses were only ?moderately? successful. In that, she made millions, but not billions. Then SKIMS happened. Kim wanted to revolutionize the industry of shapewear and she absolutely did. SKIMS, more than anything else, is Kim?s billion-dollar business. But the other stuff helps, which is why Kim is now officially a ?billionaire? according to Forbes:
When Kim Kardashian West was first mentioned in the pages of Forbes in 2011, it was simply a tally of her Twitter followers: 6.6 million, just below Barack Obama and just above Ashton Kutcher. Five years later, she graced the cover of Forbes thanks to her booming mobile game, which helped her earn $51 million that year. Now, she officially joins the World?s Billionaires list for the first time.
Forbes estimates that Kardashian West is now worth $1 billion, up from $780 million in October, thanks to two lucrative businesses?KKW Beauty and Skims?as well as cash from reality television and endorsement deals, and a number of smaller investments.
Kardashian West founded KKW Beauty in 2017, following the success of her half-sister Kylie Jenner?s Kylie Cosmetics. Yeah, I agree with Forbes? I think their math is correct, unlike their faulty reporting around Kylie Jenner?s empire. If anything, Forbes might be undervaluing some of Kim?s businesses. I do appreciate that they acknowledge that Kim was just blatantly copying Kylie with her KKW Beauty line, because it?s true. Kim Kardashian agreed to an interview with the Good Morning Vogue series, and I?m including the video at the end of the post. I mean, love it or hate it but Vogue takes Kim Kardashian seriously. They interview her the same way they?d interview an actress or a socialite. I actually enjoy the interview more because Jonathan Van Meter (the Vogue journalist conducting the GMV interview) takes her seriously and asks her substantive questions about Keeping Up with the Kardashians. It?s better than someone trying to make fun of Kim or act cooler than her or whatever. Kim chatted about a number of things, including KUWTK?s last season (airing right now), Martha Stwart, attending the Met Gala for the first time and her attitude during the pandemic. Some highlights:
Life returning to ?normal? post-pandemic: ?I think this year has been challenging for so many people but I also think that this year was a huge cleanse and just a huge opportunity for people to really be grateful for the simple things and that is a huge ? I think awakening that some people had?. I always try to look at things in a positive way. Even though it has been such a challenging year, it?s a time to regenerate, get creative, spend so much time with family and just this time I?ve been able to spend with my children has been priceless. That part has been so beautiful.?
Celebrities love SKIMS, her shapewear line: Ill never forget. Im obsessed with Martha Stewart. So I was walking in New York and I hear, Kim! Kim! And I turn around and shes like, I just need SKIMS. I love it!? I was like, anything for you! It was just such a proud moment that Martha Stewart wanted SKIMS.?
Wearing the floral Givenchy gown while pregnant at her first Met Gala: When I went to my first Met Ball the theme was punk and I was like what is this? What am I gonna wear? I would have done anything to go so I was just to be happy to be dressed up, the star, who famously wore a floral printed Givenchy gown and gloves while pregnant with daughter North, remembers. Givenchys then-creative director Riccardo Tisci told Kardashian to just embrace the grungy, punk mindset. He was just like, Fk it, youre punk. Like, it is what it is. And I get that. As Im I think more confident in myself, I get that more. I think punk is just an attitude of not giving a fk. [It's] not being not mindful of people and feelings ? it doesnt mean youre a total ahole. It just means that you live your life your way and beat to your own drum. Hopefully, that inspires people to want to do that for themselves.

Yeah, the floral Givenchy was not punk. It?s fine because it was years ago and people don?t actually care anymore, but it wasn?t punk. Riccardo Tisci kind of screwed her over on that one. As for her humble-bragging about SKIMS? I?ve said it before, but she finally found a niche market in which she?s flourished. I mean, shapewear isn?t really ?niche? but Kim has tried so many different things, it sometimes feels like she fell backwards into a massively successful business completely at random. I keep hearing that SKIMS is a good-quality line though, for whatever that?s worth.

Kim Kardashian must be so mad about the Duke and Duchess of Sussex. Even before the past week, the royal drama was stealing Kim?s divorce thunder. Kim really wanted people to pay attention to her divorce from Kanye West and how civilized it was and how she?s doing amazing, but not too amazing. Instead, people have largely been ignoring all of it? I mean, there?s the possibility that Kim was actually trying to oversaturate the market for Kardashian-West divorce gossip in some kind of next-level PR to get people tired of her sh-t. But I don?t think so, especially given this story where Kim is trying to tempt people into speculating about how she and Kanye are not even speaking right now.
Kim Kardashian and Kanye West are not talking following their divorce ? after the rapper changed all his phone numbers and told her she could only contact him through his security. A source exclusively told Page Six that Kanye, 43, abruptly cut himself off from Kim, 40, even before they filed for divorce. But despite the animosity, the source added the pair are continuing to co-parent their children, and Kanye regularly visits them at home while Kim is out.
The source said, ?Even before Kim filed for divorce, Kanye changed his numbers and said, ?You can contact me through my security.? Despite this, she trusts him around the kids. He loves them and is seeing a lot of them. She leaves the house and he arrives and hangs out with the kids. They have an army of nannies so the transition is easy.?
It has been reported that Kim would never keep Kanye from having a relationship with their kids, but that she should not be there when he visits, at his request. Page Six exclusively revealed KimYe were divorcing in January. After intense mediation, Kim filed for divorce on February 19.

Yeah, I think the ?army of nannies? and Kanye?s own phalanx of security personnel are probably WHY Kim has been okay with Kanye seeing the kids whenever he wants. Kim knows that there?s backup, and she seems to take pains to remind everyone that he?s really never alone with the children. As for Kanye cutting off contact with Kim? it is what it is. I actually think that was a smart choice? Like, almost a mature choice. One of the things I hate most of all about celebrity gossip is the constant assessing of pregnant women?s bodies. It?s not so omnipresent these days, but just seven or eight years ago, it was quite common on talk shows and social media to have endless ?debates? about pregnant women?s weight. Remember everything about Jessica Simpson?s first pregnancy in 2013? The poor woman gained weight and no one could shut up about it. Sarah Palin was even chiming in! There were segments on the View about her weight! It was ridiculous. Around the same time as Jessica?s pregnancy, Kim Kardashian was pregnant with North West. It cannot be underestimated how much Kim loathed her two pregnancies. She was absolutely miserable during her pregnancies, and much like Jessica, she gained weight and she was so uncomfortable. And just like Jessica, people could not shut up about it. Kim was recently thinking back to that time and she had some sh-t to say:
Kim Kardashian is opening up about how body shaming during her first pregnancy deeply affected her. The mom of four, 40, wrote a lengthy message on her Instagram Story reflecting on internet and tabloid scrutiny of her body while she was pregnant with her daughter North, who is now 7. Kardashian says the jokes and critiques of her figure were very traumatizing and it can really break even the strongest person.
No matter how public someones life may seem, no one deserves to be treated with such cruelty or judgement for entertainment, she writes. The Keeping Up with the Kardashians star says because of the preeclampsia she experienced during her first pregnancy, her body would swell uncontrollably.
I gained 60 lbs and delivered almost 6 weeks early and I cried every single day over what was happening to my body mainly from the pressures of being constantly compared to what society considered a healthy pregnant person should look like, she writes.
Kardashian says she felt so insecure at the time, adding that she had this fear of wondering if I would ever get my pre baby body back. She said the attention grew to the point that she says she couldnt leave the house for months after.
It really broke me, she adds. Luckily I was able to take these frustrating, embarrassing feelings and channel it into motivation to get me where I am today, but to say this didnt take a toll on me mentally would be a lie, Kardashian says.
Im sharing this just to say I really hope everyone involved in the business of shaming and bullying someone to the point of breaking them down might reconsider and instead try to show some understanding and compassion, the reality star adds. You just never fully know what someone is going through behind the scenes and Ive learned through my own experiences that its always better to lead with kindness.

Yeah. I felt so sorry for her during her pregnancies. She was so miserable for a million different reasons. What irritated me so much about Kim?s pregnancies and Jessica?s pregnancies was that they are both short, curvy women naturally and they were always going to have uncomfortable/bigger pregnancies. They were never going to look like Gisele during her pregnancy, you know? And I felt like that was missing from all of the toxic dialogue at the time, that every woman?s body is different, that every woman carries differently, that every woman?s body reacts differently to a pregnancy. There was (and perhaps still is) a blanket assumption that someone like Gisele is the norm, and all women should be judged against that standard. There are too many celebrity women who play into those expectations too, and they monetize their healthy pregnancies and their ?postpartum bounce-backs.? Just take all of that commentary out of the gossip ecosystem.

Perhaps I?m wrong, but Kim Kardashian really stopped wearing major pieces of jewelry following the 2016 Paris robbery. The robbers stole the giant diamond ring given to her by Kanye, among other pieces of jewelry she had brought to Paris that trip. Kanye West was trying to sell jewelry he had bought for Kim Kardashian just days before she filed for divorce, a source has claimed. The rapper knew his marriage to Kim, who filed for divorce last week, was over and didnt want to be reminded of the past, the insider added.
In the last two weeks, Kanye was attempting to sell jewelry he had purchased for Kim to at least two top jewelers, the source told The Sun. His friends knew it was over at that point. He really wanted to stay together but she was done. Kanye recently said, I don?t want to be connected to the Kardashian brand anymore but he was so torn because he still very much loves Kim. Although he never ended up selling the jewelry he was talking about how he didnt want to be reminded of the past.

She?s been using People Magazine as her diary and therapist for the past year, telling them all about what?s going on with Kanye and what she?s thinking about their separation and divorce. Now that Kim has finally filed for divorce the news dropped last Friday she?s once again running to People to beg gossips to pay attention to her drama. Some highlights from like three separate People exclusives:
Kim is spending time with family during this difficult time: Although Kim and Kanye have been separated for months, it was still emotional for Kim to actually file for divorce, the source says. She spent the weekend taking care of herself and her kids. She is spending time with her mom, sisters and hasnt been working. Everyone is supportive. Kim feels very lucky to be surrounded by her big family.
Kim is disappointed: There is no drama between Kim and Kanye. Kim is mostly just disappointed that they couldnt figure out how to stay married. But it takes two people to create a happy marriage, the source says. Kim has felt Kanye is not willing to do the hard work and compromise.
They?re in agreement about the divorce terms: According to a source, the stars are in agreement over joint legal and physical custody, neither is contesting the prenup in place, negotiations have progressed and they are nearing a settlement. A separate source tells PEOPLE that the divorce proceedings, including their co-parenting plan, unfolded swiftly. The parenting plan and split of assets came together quickly, in the past few days, the source says. Kim and Kanye basically wanted the same thing.
Sources confirm that Kim is super-amazing: According to the source, Kardashian has been fair and generous as well as thoughtful and caring amid her split from West, who has bipolar disorder. Shes worried about sending him into another tailspin, because thats not good for anyone, especially the kids, the source says. So shes being as gentle and kind as she can be, while still standing up for what she feels she needs to stand up for. A second source says that the Keeping Up with the Kardashians star and the rapper are on the same page when it comes to their children. Both of them want nothing but the best for the kids, the source says. They want the kids to be happy. The kids will stay with Kim, but Kanye will be able to see them whenever he wants to. They will work out a schedule that is good for everyone.

It?s crazy because I?m actually on her damn side in this divorce and I believe that she has been very careful to do everything gently. But baby girl really needs to stop telling People Magazine that she?s the most thoughtful, generous, lovely, amazing woman ever. I mean, I know well enough that no one ever wants to give Kim credit for anything positive, so these People leaks are just her way of preemptively defending herself. But YIKES!

Frankly, I think Kim was on edge when Kanye went full MAGA, but sure, running for president and simultaneously committing election fraud by coordinating with Jared Kushner and the Trump campaign did not help matters at all.

Kim is also divorcing him because he talked sh-t about her family as he was ?campaigning,? and because she?s just done with his whole deal these days. I would also imagine his recent ?Godly Preacher Kanye? act hasn?t helped matters either. People Magazine?s sources also said that Kanye is having a hard time with all of this:

The divorce filing ? and new developments ? come just days after a source told PEOPLE that Kanye was not doing well amid the couples split.
He is anxious and very sad. He knows that the marriage is over, and theres nothing that can be done right now, the source said on Wednesday. He also knows what he is losing in Kim.
