As we discussed earlier this week, Kim Kardashian wore Fulani braids to the MTV Movie and TV Awards, which aired on Monday night. I said that she was culturally appropriating because that?s exactly what she was doing. She does it all the time. She did it earlier this year when she had blonde hair and she claimed, at the time, that the braids were ?Bo Derek braids,? like it?s not enough she?s appropriating black women but she actually has to go out of her way to give credit to a white woman for the braided hairstyle. To be honest, I think Kim would still be called out for appropriation even if she came out every time and said ?I love these traditionally black-culture braids.? The thing is, she never does that. Kim chatted with Bustle this week and they asked her about the braids and cultural appropriation. Her answer was not good.
Why she wore braids to the MTV Awards: I actually didnt see backlash. I actually did that look because North said she wanted braids and asked if I would do them with her. So we braided her hair and then we braided my hair, Kardashian West explains. North West, Kardashian Wests 5-year-old daughter, has naturally curly hair and is often spotted wearing them natural or in braids. Its clear that Kardashian West supports and celebrates her daughters natural, biracial hair and it also makes sense that North would ask her mom to match her hairdo.
The backlash on ?Bo Derek braid?: I [do] remember the backlash when I had the blonde hair and that I called them Bo Derek braids. But I obviously know theyre called fulani braids and I know the origin of where they came from and Im totally respectful of that. Im not tone deaf to where I dont get it. I do get it, Kardashian West says. When the mother of three wears her hair in braids, she claims she wears them in honor and with respect of the culture who originated the style ? the Fula people from West Africa and the Sahel Region ? and at the very least, to celebrate her daughters hair.
She means no disrespect: Maybe if I had come out and explained that from the beginning instead of calling them Bo Derek braids, then it wouldnt have gotten such backlash. But in no way am I ever trying to disrespect anyones culture by wearing braids. If anything, my daughter was so excited to see me get matching braids with her. [When] we did her hair in these braids, she was so excited.
[From Bustle]
Honestly, she?s full of it. I remember the ?Bo Derek braids? controversy, since it was just in January/February of this year. It?s wasn?t JUST that she called them ?Bo Derek braids,? it?s that when people were like ?appropriating bitch please,? she got nasty about it and started posting more photos of the braids and saying she didn?t give a fk about the ?haters.? If she knew they were called fulani braids, why didn?t she just call them that in the first place? And it?s not like this sh-t started this year, and it?s not like this is the first time Kim and her sisters have stolen something from black culture and then passed it off as something they invented.
Also: it makes me uncomfortable to see her using North as a shield from criticism. Yes, North is a mixed race girl and she will continue to be curious about braids and different kinds of hairstyles. Kim has every right to educate her daughter and allow North to experiment with her hair and all of that. But the answer to every criticism that Kim faces should not be ?but my daughter wanted it, thats why I did it!?

Out of all the Kardashian-Jenners, I think Kim would have made the best lawyer. I know that family isn?t really a deep pool of brain cells, but out of all of Robert Kardashian?s children, Kim is the one who probably should have followed in her father?s footsteps and gone to law school. She?s the one obsessively watching Dateline and assorted true-crime shows. She?s the one using her celebrity to shine a light on mandatory-minimums and prison reform. So why didn?t she go to law school? I suspect it?s because Kris Jenner had more influence than Robert Kardashian. And Kris was determined to make the whole family famous off of Kim?s ass.
Anyway, Kim is figuring out that she actually has some power to do something other than shill makeup. Kim took a personal interest in Alice Marie Johnson?s case, then personally lobbied Donald Trump for Johnson?s pardon/commutation, and it worked. A woman is now free because of Kim?s interest. So Kim is doing it again she?s getting involved with a case/conviction of a death-row inmate.
Kim Kardashian is on another case. The reality-TV queen tweeted about the plight of San Quentin Prison death-row inmate Kevin Cooper ? asking California Gov. Edmund ?Jerry? Brown to retest DNA evidence in his case.
?Governor Brown, can you please test the DNA of Kevin Cooper?? Kardashian, 37, tweeted twice on Saturday, along with New York Times articles about the case. Cooper, 59, was convicted of the murders of Douglas and Peggy Ryen, their 10-year-old daughter Jessica and her friend, 10-year-old Chris Hughes, in Chino Hills, Calif., 1985. Since his conviction, Cooper has maintained his innocence and has exhausted all appeals for his conviction, according to the San Diego Tribune.
Some of Cooper?s advocates argue that the San Bernardino Sheriff?s Department tampered with DNA evidence to frame Cooper and that this evidence ? found on a t-shirt Cooper says he never wore ? should be retested. In an op-ed on Sunday, New York Times columnist Nicholas Kristof wrote that the sole survivor of the murders, 8-year-old Joshua Ryen, told investigators the killers had been three or four white men ? but that cops preferred to focus on Cooper instead.
Last month, Sen. Kamala Harris (D-San Francisco) also called on the governor to allow the DNA to be retested. Gov. Brown hasn?t announced his decision yet. His spokesperson did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
[From The New York Post]
I?m including one of Kim?s tweets below. It sounds like an interesting case. What will happen if, at some point, Kim advocates for someone who turns out to be guilty of something heinous? I mean, it does seem like Kevin Cooper?s case should be reexamined and they should definitely test the DNA, but it?s also possible that the cops do end up arresting and convicting the right people sometimes too. Will Kim get any blowback if that happens? Will cops take issue with Kim?
Also: perhaps it would be more effective to tweet @ Jerry Brown?

Here are some photos of Kim Kardashian, Kanye West and North West out and about in New York this weekend. It feels like the Kardashian-Wests were doing a week-long celebration for North?s fifth birthday the birthday girl got multiple parties, shopping excursions, ice cream, candy and lots of paparazzi. Whenever I see North, I?m just struck by how much she looks like Kanye, and how Kim always says that North is so much like Kanye. Honestly, I hope North grows up to be more like her mom, but we?ll see.
Meanwhile, Kim?s entire interview with Van Jones aired on CNN on Friday. She did this interview soon after she convinced Donald Trump to commute the sentence of Alice Marie Johnson. Kim has basically been doing a (well-earned) victory lap in the press ever since, but I?ll give her some credit: this experience had a positive effect on Kim. It?s like she suddenly realized she has more power than she ever knew. She might make a habit of this, personally lobbying dictators and politicians. Or she might run for office. That?s what Van Jones asked her whether she would consider running for president:
The Alice Marie Johnson commutation has opened her eyes: I honestly saw that if I could use my platform just to do something for one person, that it opens the conversation for so much more and for other people to want to do the same thing. If more people would just put their personal feelings aside and talk about really important issues that have to be discussed, then so much more can get done.?
Whether she would ever run for office: I guess never say never. But thats not going to be like, Kims running. Thats not where I am.?
[From CNN]
I?m including the short video clip below Kim is pretty clear that she?s not completely shutting down the idea that she could run for office, but truly, that?s not where she is right now. Besides, I actually think that IF Kim did run for office some day, she would actually want to work her way up like, she would run for mayor of Calabasas (or mayor of LA), then maybe governor of California. Then after a few terms as governor, she would run for president, because why not?
Kim for President? "Never say never," @KimKardashian tells CNN's @VanJones68 on 'The Van Jones Show,' airing Saturday at 7 p.m. ET https://t.co/TA2E96Qw2c pic.twitter.com/ebZ1E7mZiD

| Kim Kardashian steps out in NYC, in some awful Yeezy Collection ensembles | Added 6 years ago | Source: CeleBitchy |

Here are some photos of Kim Kardashian out and about in New York on Thursday. The night photos of Kim where she?s wearing the sleeveless, high-neck black ensemble are from the big listening party for Nas?s new album, which Kanye produced. The album is called Nasir, and the reviews from people coming out of the listening party are that the album is actually pretty great. I mean, I?d still like to point out that Nas?s ex-wife Kelis very recently came out and talked about how he physically abused her throughout their marriage. But I guess we?re talking about music now.
As for Kim?s look at the party? I feel like she?s still being styled by Kanye, and Kanye always has an issue with footwear. The ensemble itself is okay I don?t like Kim in mock-turtles, but whatever, and I actually thought this was a little black dress until I saw that no, it?s actually a pair of bicycle shorts and a mock-t. Ugh. The boots are heinous though. And I don?t really get the obsession with these too-short crossbody bags, especially for large-breasted women. If you?re a dude or a small-chested woman, by all means, wear a crossbody bag that is too small. But if you?re built like me or like Kim, it just looks awful and uncomfortable. I think the whole ensemble is from Kanye?s new Yeezy collection, so Kim is just supporting her husband. Shes not his best model.
She wore a different pair (?) of ugly boots during the day on Thursday too, when she was walking around New York with North West and Jonathan Cheban. Look at North! I know North?s favorite artist just by looking at her: she?s an Ariana Grande super-fan. Kim even lets North do her hair like Ari. Which is pretty cute. Apparently, they all went out for ice cream.

| Kim Kardashian: 'I don't think I would be used' by Donald Trump politically | Added 6 years ago | Source: CeleBitchy |

It?s difficult for people to give Kim Kardashian credit for anything. She does a lot of shady, dumb stuff, of course, but even when she does something good, or even when she?s legitimately the victim of a crime, people still find a way to criticize her, blame her, yell at her, whatever. Of course the issue of presidential pardons should NOT work this way, where a celebrity goes to the White House to personally lobby the president for one particular person to be pardoned. On the governmental side of this situation, of course it?s awful. But on the celebrity side of this, I find it very telling that so many people still don?t want to give Kim Kardashian any credit for anything. Because of Kim?s interest and actions, a woman is now free.
Kim spoke to CNN?s Van Jones about the process of getting a commutation for Alice Marie Johnson. Van Jones took her seriously, and Kim answered the questions seriously, about the process of setting up meetings and calls with Ivanka Trump and Jared Kushner, and then personally lobbying Donald Trump. He even called her on her cell phone to tell her that he was signing the commutation for Johnson. Jones asked Kim if she feels like Trump was using her, or will use her. Her answer was interesting:
Speaking with CNN?s Van Jones in an interview that aired Thursday, Kim Kardashian, 37, responded to criticism that she now endorses the president after he accepted her months-long campaign for Johnson?s freedom.
?I think Kanye?s already given him legitimacy in that way,? Kardashian West said, referring to her rapper husband?s public support for Trump, even calling the commander-in-chief his ?brother? in April. ?I was working on this before. I don?t think I would be used. At the end of the day, he heard me out. We got the job done. What could he really use me for??
[From People]
I think that?s naive, but in other ways, she?s right what would he use her for that he isn?t already using Kanye for? Trump brags to his Deplorables that Kanye is helping him with black voters, but that?s all it is: a dumb brag from a thin-skinned narcissist. Kim?s politics were and are well known it?s no secret she voted for Hillary Clinton, that she supports reproductive freedom and gun control, and standing next to Donald Trump does not mean she?s suddenly going to vote straight-Republican. She used Trump more than anything else. Here?s the CNN video. Superficial note: her lips are really messed up.

| Kim Kardashian in Rick Owens at the CFDAs: actually really pretty? | Added 6 years ago | Source: CeleBitchy |

This is almost as shocking to me as when Kim Kardashian got her first American Vogue cover: Kim was given the Influencer Award at this year?s Council of Fashion Designers of America gala. THe CFDAs are very Anna Wintour-approved too, so just in case you were wondering, Kim is still liked by the legitimate fashion community. I don?t know what to tell you. Kim came to the CFDAs in this custom look by Rick Owens, and? I don?t hate this? Like? I enjoy the whole look. I love that Kim is back to dark hair, and while this two-piece dress isn?t the best thing ever, she looks comfortable and sexy. Kourtney was her date, and Kourt wore a Christian Siriano pantsuit.
When Kim received her award, she told the audience: ?I am kind of shocked that I am winning a fashion award when I am naked most of the time. But this is seriously such an honor, so thank you to the CFDA for this award.? She said a lot more, about how Kanye is her inspiration and stylist and all of that - go here to see more.
Interesting enough, Issa Rae was the host of this year?s CFDAs. She wore a custom Pyer Moss gown with a specialized belt which read ?Every N Is A Star.? During her monolauge, she clowned on Kanye in front of his wife too, saying: ?I?m about as fashionable as Kanye is black. Only when it?s convenient. That joke was my choice, just like slavery.? I wonder what Kim?s reaction to that joke was.

| Kim Kardashian will reportedly meet with Donald Trump today about a pardon | Added 6 years ago | Source: CeleBitchy |

Clearly, I don?t ?blame? Kim Kardashian for her MAGA-hat-wearing douchebag husband Kanye West. Kanye?s politics are his own, and Kim has proven many times over that she?s a Democrat who isn?t afraid to lend her voice, visibility, time and money to important causes like gun control, reproductive choice and prison reform. My problem with Kim regarding Kanye is that she does too much to normalize Kanye?s rants and raves because she?s worried about HER brand. But I?ve never doubted that Kim and I share many of the same political sensibilities in general. So what should we make of this? It?s looking more and more certain that Kim will travel to the Trump White House to personally lobby Jared Kushner and Donald Trump to pardon a woman named Alice Marie Johnson.
Kim Kardashian West is set to meet with President Trump on Wednesday, likely in the Oval Office, to ask him to pardon a 62-year-old great-grandmother serving a life-sentence without parole for a nonviolent drug offense. This follows ?months of talks? between Kardashian West and Jared Kushner about prison reform. Kardashian West has been publicly promoting clemency for Alice Marie Johnson. The case of Johnson, who?s been in prison since 1996 on money-laundering and drug-conspiracy charges, came to Kardashian?s attention when she spotted a video Mic posted to Twitter in October.
Kardashian West confirmed earlier this month that she?d had several phone calls with Trump?s son-in-law/adviser about Johnson?s case. (She?s also involved in the effort to free Cyntoia Brown, a woman sentenced to 60 years for killing a man who she says was soliciting her for sex at 16 after she was forced into prostitution.)
While Kardashian West is already drawing flak on social media for both working with the Trump administration and not being a prison reform expert, she explained her stance in an interview with Mic several weeks ago. When asked about accusations that she?s legitimizing Trump?s broader policies, she suggested she?s willing to put her other gripes with Trump aside to help Johnson.
?I?m just focused on criminal justice reform and helping one person at a time. And so far, the White House has been really receptive to my calls, and I?m grateful for that,? she said. ?And I?m not going to stop that because people personally don?t like Trump.?
[From NY Magazine]
I honestly don?t know how to feel about this? I mean, if Trump ends up pardoning Johnson, then the ends justify the means and Kim should be lauded and praised. But if she just goes in there and poses with Donald Trump for a photo-op and all she gets is a promise that he?ll ?look? at possibly pardoning Johnson, then it?s just typical Trump bullsh-t, and he will have played her just for the photo-op. Would you go into the Trump (All) White House and pose beside that orange, lying turd just for a promise that he might do something? I probably would not. So it?s all about what Jared Kushner has promised her ahead of time.

Kim Kardashian did not bring Kanye West to the Met Gala. I think we can all breathe a sigh of relief for that. Kim arrived late on the carpet, so we had already seen a lot of pope looks and Joan of Arc looks and so this Versace gown just seemed? subdued. It?s a new Atelier Versace gown, but it?s based off a Gianni Versace-designed gown from the 1990s. If you look closely, you can see the crosses in the fabric. I mean? Kim looks fine. She didn?t embarrass herself. She also wasn?t looking to be the center of attention. Blah, it?s fine.
I was happy that Donatella Versace was one of the co-chairs for this year?s Met Gala, because Versace can do some very religious, very Catholic-inspired looks. But I ended up sort of disappointed by many of the Versace looks, including the one Donatella wore. I don?t get it?
SZA also wore Versace. This was one of my favorites from the Versace looks! Apparently, this was based on ?Weeping Madonna? art. The headpiece and gold tears are by Chris Habana. She killed it!
