Ben Affleck and Jennifer Garner will pose for the occasional paparazzi photos together, especially around Awards season, but they generally don’t walk red carpets together. Garner has said it’s because she doesn’t want to just be known as the ‘wife of’ a famous husband, but I tend to think it’s Affleck’s idea and she’s just been going along with it. They did make an exception to pose together at the Vanity Fair Oscar party this year and last year, when Argo took home Best Picture.
Here are some photos of the two, married since 2005, at the Save The Children gala in New York last night. Affleck looks a little tipsy to me. Maybe it’s jet lag, but there’s something about his eyes that make it look like he’s had a few. Garner just looks happy to be there and to pose with her husband.
Affleck was there to accept the Global Child Advocate Award for his work founding The Eastern Congo Initiative. In his acceptance speech, Affleck mentioned his argument with Bill Maher and author Sam Harris when he was a guest on Maher’s show last month. Affleck claimed he was making a “Sesame Street” argument that “you don’t judge a whole group of people based on the actions of a few.” I think Affleck was mischaracterizing Harris’ position at least (Maher went a little far with it as is typical of him) and that there was no point in bringing it up again weeks later. Obviously he’s been thinking about it in the interim. Affleck also talked about the charity work that he and his wife do, and I found that part of his speech moving:
Ben Affleck feels more comfortable speaking his mind than pretending to say what people want to hear. So before receiving his award at Wednesday’s Save the Children Illumination Gala, he praised wife Jennifer Garner on her dedication to their family, and then shared insight into his recent spat with “Real Time” host Bill Maher over generalized remarks about Islam.
On an episode last month, Affleck took issue with Maher saying that Islam is “the only religion that acts like the Mafia.”
“I was ultimately making a ‘Sesame Street’ argument. You don’t judge a whole group of people based on the actions of a few,” Affleck said of their heated debate.
The “Gone Girl” actor makes no bones about speaking his mind when it comes to hot-button issues.
“That’s the environment around my dinner table when we talk politics,” he said. “I think I’d rather tell the truth and say what I believe in and make people unhappy than sort of pretend to think something else to accommodate them and try to be liked. That’s just the way it goes and I don’t think I’m any great champion of anything, but if they’re going to put me on a show, I’m going to say what I think.”
As for Garner, the 42-year-old actor says he’s grateful that his wife takes on the “lion’s share” of responsibilities, dedicating her time to raising their three young children, while maintaining her career and charity work.
“She’s been really smart about choosing her projects, doing ‘Dallas Buyers Club’ or ‘Alexander and the Terrible Day,’ smart, good movies that luckily have been successful. And then, they’re not so time-consuming that she can’t do this work and be there for our kids, which is the most important thing to her,” Affleck said.
Garner spoke of how the couple divides their time for philanthropy.
“He works on Eastern Congo Initiative, and I work on the U.S. programs for Save the Children, and within that, I really work on getting kids started on the right foot from birth to 5, helping families get their kids up and ready for school and healthy,” she said, adding: “We don’t scatter our energy around.”
Affleck co-founded the Eastern Congo Initiative in 2010 with Whitney Williams. The organization advocates the economic and social growth of the country through various programs. And while some of their missions focus on the well-being of children, Affleck says he doesn’t make “value judgments” of where the problems are more dire.
“There are children in the United States, my wife has traveled, been in their homes in Kentucky, West Virginia, in the central valley of California who can’t speak and they’re 4 years old, who can’t read until five years later than they should, who get no stimuli, who are really suffering, and we recognize it. In this country, with our wealth, with our, I think, decency and empathy, we should be taking care ? at the very least educating all of our citizenry.”
He added: “I also think it’s important to take care of people who are suffering on a different level, which is in Eastern Congo suffering from war and famine and preventable disease. And where maternal health is non-existent, so 1 in 5 children dies before the age of 5.”

It’s hard to fathom that there are kids in our country who live in such dire conditions that they can’t talk until they’re four. Good for Ben and Jen for dedicating their time to charity. I’m happy they posed together and now that I know more about the event I understand why they did it. They’re united in their charity work for children. I would love it if they just started walking the red carpet together at most events from now on, but I doubt that’s going to happen.

We?re all waiting patiently for the March 2016 release of ?Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice,? and it turns out Ben Affleck will continue his Caped Crusader stint in 2017?s ?Justice League? film.
According to Warner Bros and DC Comics, the ?Good Will Hunting? hunk will don the Batsuit and join Amy Adams and Henry Cavill in the forthcoming project.
When he was initially unveiled as the new Batman, Affleck had to endure plenty of criticism from naysayers who didn?t think he could handle the role.
At the time, Ben told Jimmy Fallon, "I'm a big boy. They said just don't use the Internet for a couple of days... I handle sh*t. I'm very tough. I saw the announcement, I look down on the first comment...the first one just goes, 'Nooooooooo!'"

Ben Affleck has a new interview with the New York Times to promote Gone Girl, which is easily one of the most-anticipated films of the year. Every time a new trailer comes out, I?m hunting for clues to see what was changed and what wasn?t. I personally wish that Rosamund Pike was front-and-center during the early promotion, but I guess there?s a concern that Rosamund won?t get people into the theater, so they?ve got to lead with Affleck. That concerns me, honestly. Gone Girl isn?t a good read because of Nick Dunne: it?s a good read because of Amy. Putting Affleck out there to do the promotional heavy lifting gives me the impression that Amy?s character has been diminished. We?ll see. As for this Affleck interview? he?s sort of grim and serious and we get it, dude. You?re Mr. Dramatic Actor now and you still feel deep shame about dating J.Lo. Sigh. You can read the full piece here. Some highlights:
An oblique reference to Bennifer 1.0: ?There?s nothing really about this guy or character that I feel connected to personally. Except that I have definitely felt as though I was looking at a version of my life that I didn?t recognize through the prism of the media.?
His evolution as an actor/celebrity: ?I think for me there?s the idea that ?Oh, he was callow and foolish in his youth and has sort of learned the error of his ways and has redeemed himself and is now like, maybe, a person of substance.? But it wasn?t that I was lost and now I?m found. It was because we grow up. We kind of evolve.?
Another Bennifer 1.0 reference: ?[I was] cast in a soap opera where I had no control over the lines I was saying or the story line.? His recurring thought then was: ?This bears no resemblance to me, and I really wish they would write me a better part. Because I don?t want to be this guy.?
The process of doing ?grueling? work with David Fincher: ?It was music to my ears. I love that idea of almost a hair shirt of a movie, when?re you just working very hard, all day every day. The feeling of risk has to do with: ?Is this person going to do something with my humiliation, or with my honesty and with my nakedness and the degree to which I?m exposing myself in a real way? Or are they just going to humiliate me and butcher it???
Playing The Batfleck: ?I?m having a blast? [the film] is really unique to the genre and really smart.?
The ebbs and flows of making movies: ?The world is more naturally full of nos than they are with yeses. And, in fact, the yeses are so rare. I have to make peace with it. I don?t always succeed. All these phases of life I?ve found are challenging in their own way. You keep running into new versions of yourself, and having to acclimate to that.?
[From The NY Times]
I was thinking throughout this interview? how often does Affleck bring up Jennifer Lopez or the Bennifer 1.0 years? How often is he the one bringing it up rather than the interviewer? Because it feels like a lot. It feels like most journalists are pretty much ?over? asking him about that time in his life and he?s the one obsessed with talking about it.
One slightly interesting sidenote ? David Fincher told the NYT that his version of Amy is ?partly based on Carolyn Bessette-Kennedy.? Huh. That?s interesting.
Oh, and the NYT puts this as a sidenote too: ?Mr. Fincher granted The New York Times a private screening at his office. Contrary to early speculation, the film hews closely to the book.? Gillian Flynn had said in interviews that she changed the ending when she adapted her book for the screenplay, so I don?t know what any of this means.

Enjoying a rare child-free outing, Ben Affleck took his wife Jennifer Garner out for some errands in Brentwood on Sunday (August 17).
Having recently battled another round of pregnancy rumors, the ?Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice? hunk and his ?Butter? babe were less-than-thrilled to see shutterbugs nearby as they scurried back to their car.
After grabbing some icy cool beverages, Ben and Jen sped off in Affleck?s enviable 1966 Chevrolet Chevelle SS 396 and Ms. Garner tended to some texts on her iPhone.
And pretty soon, Ben will begin promoting his much-anticipated flick ?Gone Girl,? as it?s slated to hit theaters October 3rd.

| Ben Affleck banned for life from playing blackjack at Hard Rock Casino | Added 10 years ago | Source: CeleBitchy |

Ben Affleck is a big gambler and he’s incredibly good at it, to the point where he legitimately won the California State Poker Championship in 2004. Affleck loves to gamble, and there have been rumors for years that his gambling poses a problem in his marriage to Jennifer Garner. So that’s why I’m side-eyeing this report that Ben took Jennifer to Vegas with him for a “romantic break” before he’s about to film Batman vs. Superman. That’s like taking your non sports fan wife to the NCAA final four. That is not romantic, that is a guy pursuing a hobby by any means necessary. Still, at least Ben took Jennifer with him instead of leaving her at home, right?
This is news because Affleck was so skilled at the high rollers blackjack tables at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino that he was reportedly escorted out of the establishment and banned from playing blackjack there for life. Affleck was suspected of counting cards, which is technically not illegal, just not allowed. Hard Rock officials deny that Affleck is banned and say he’s still welcome, which we’ll get to in a moment. First, here’s what happened.
Actor Ben Affleck was banned for life from playing blackjack at the Hard Rock Cafe in Vegas after security officers busted him counting cards, a source told The Post Friday.
The Oscar-winning star had come to Sin City with his wife, actress Jennifer Garner, to spend some time together before he begins shooting a new ?Batman? movie, where he plays the caped superhero.
?Ben was told that he cannot ever play blackjack at the Hard Rock again,?? the source said.
?He was there with Jen on Tuesday night for a romantic break before he headed off to Detroit to shoot ?Batman,??? the source said.
?He was playing blackjack at a high-rollers table on Tuesday and was doing pretty well. He is really smart and a great blackjack player.
?Suddenly, managers approached Ben and told him. ?You are playing too well. You are going to have to stop playing blackjack. You can play any other game at the Hard Rock, but you are banned from playing blackjack in our casino.? ??
The source stressed, ?What he was doing isn?t illegal. He?s basically an ?advantaged player? because he knows what he?s doing.
?He and Jen decided to leave, and security arranged for a car service to take them back to their hotel.?
Although he?s down for the ?count,?? the hotel told him he?s welcome back at the casino any time ? as long as he steers clear of the blackjack table.
[From The NY Post]
In light of this story, The Post has another article detailing Affleck’s history of gambling huge sums of money. He’s lost and won a bundle. There’s also of course the scandal from a few years back over the multi million dollar underground poker ring that Affleck, Matt Damon, Tobey Maguire and Leonardo DiCaprio were said to participate in.
Radar got a quote from the Hard Rock spokesperson, who said that Affleck wasn’t “banned from the property,” which doesn’t really specify if he’s banned from blackjack as The Post claims. The spokeswoman said “Mr. Affleck, a valued guest of Hard Rock Hotel & Casino, is not banned from our property and is welcome back any time.”
Radar also got ahold of an internal email which suggests that this isn’t the first time that Affleck has drawn suspicions from higher ups at the casino. It was written by the Games Protection Manager, is dated April 22 and reads, in part “Ben Affleck (the actor) ? Was informed that he was being way too obvious moving his money with the count. He was spreading $100 -10K on the double decks and $0-20K (2@10K) on the shoe games. As of now, he is still being allowed to play per casino management.”
That’s all a bunch of mumbo jumbo to me, but I guess it means that Affleck was winning too much money, and was too skilled at it, for the house to tolerate for long. It also says to me that he’s been heavily gambling for a couple of weeks now at least. That’s more than just a brief “romantic break.” Still, at least Jennifer knows exactly where he is.
Thanks to Kaiser for the tip!

Here’s the first trailer for David Fincher’s adaptation of Gillian Flynn’sGone Girl starring Ben Affleck as the creepy husband who everyone thinks killed his wife on their 5th wedding anniversary. For good reason too. Would an innocent man do this?
The film was adapted by Gillian Flynn so there’s a good chance it’ll stay faithful to the source material. That is to say, you can put down your pitchforks now.Gone Girl opens October 3.

Making the most of the free time in his schedule, Ben Affleck spent quality time with his daughters Violet and Seraphina in Pacific Palisades on Sunday (November 24).
The "Argo" star dressed in dark jeans, a gray sweater with shades as he and the adorable girls enjoyed delicious pizza and snacks after attending Violet's basketball game.
As previously reported by GossipCenter, actor Christian Bale revealed his excitement for Ben as he takes on the role as the new Batman.
"I wish him all the best. He's a very experienced actor and filmmaker and he'll make it his own. Our thing's finished, we've always declared it was finished and it should be passed on to another actor and it will be again after him."
In regards to offering a little piece of advice, Mr. Bale stated, "The only thing I said to him is just make sure he can take a piss without anyone having to help him. Because it's a little bit humiliating, at least what I went through, when you have to have someone help you out of the costume."

She?s married to one of the biggest Boston Red Sox fans in the world, so life for Jennifer Garner has been a bit hectic since the start of the MLB World Series.
During her interview on ? Jimmy Kimmel Live,? the ?Dallas Buyers Club? chick confessed that she and Ben Affleck are doing everything they can to help their team take home the title.
Garner began, ?The Red Sox [game], that?s really all that?s happening at my house right now. I don?t know if the kids are being fed, Trick-or-Treat may be cancelled if there is a Game 7? You can?t not fall for the Red Sox.?
?Once you get into the playoffs, it?s a little bit like, ?Okay wait, somebody just made an error so now I have to change where I?m sitting on the couch,? and, ?Oh, you had a hot dog at this time in the game yesterday, so now we can?t?? You know, it?s a little bit ridiculous.?
