Naomi Watts covers the February issue of Vogue Australia, and I think this is maybe one of her loveliest pictorials ever. Now, that being said, I can?t really recall many of Naomi?s magazine editorials ever making an impression on me either way. I actually don?t think she does a lot of magazine interviews and editorials?? So this is a special case, and it?s lovely. I like the floral background and I love the green Gucci gown on the cover. Beautiful.
Naomi appears on the cover for two projects ? one, she?s promoting The Impossible, for which she will probably get a Best Actress Oscar nomination, and God knows, she might even be a major contender for the award too. She?s also talking a lot about her Princess Diana film, which as this point is only called Diana (it used to be Caught In Flight??). That film doesn?t even have a US or UK release date yet, so God knows when it will come out. Anyway, Naomi spent a big chunk of this Vogue interview talking about Diana:
Playing Diana: ‘In the case of Diana, of course, there is a huge pressure to look right, to have good hair, to walk and speak like her. And I instantly thought “Oh no, I?m going to fail at that because the comparisons are going to be monumental”. I?m always interested in complicated women, in women who are full of contradictions: strength, vulnerability, success, loneliness and all those things. Diana exemplified that in major ways. She was a great mother, did a lot of things with AIDS charities and the landmines, and had an extraordinary life, but her life was filled with tragedy and, of course, ended in the most tragic way.?
Comparing her celebrity existence to Diana?s: ?Most of the time I go completely under the radar but I do understand a little the pressure and how awful it must have been for her. She was properly isolated because of the media attention and, as a result, paranoid. She didn?t know who to trust and that is horrible. Such a lonely idea…a horrible way to live.’
On The Impossible: ‘It was definitely hard work but had it been on green screen, you wouldn?t have got the same feeling. I mean, we were in that pool, struggling to breathe. Of course, nothing to the extent to what the real people went through, but, nonetheless? I?m not even a strong swimmer. The pressure of The Impossible was huge because it is such a sensitive subject and needs to be told with a lot of truth.’
On living a normal life: “There is nothing that is going to stop me [living a normal life]. I won’t allow that. Sometimes we may be suddenly surrounded by 10 or 15 photographers on the school run and they just won’t get out of your face, but most of the time we’re fine and can get through it. I don’t want to be stuck in the house and send someone to fetch the children.”
On keeping a work-life balance: “You know, I want be able to do normal things. You can also add to the problem if you do the secretive thing, putting up the umbrellas and all that. It creates more allure that way. I think it’s better to go out with messy hair. They might write that I look tired or old or something but they are going to pick on something regardless.”
On tough criticism: “I got knockback after knockback at auditions. Just before ‘Mulholland Dr.’ my agent told me I was so intense I was freaking people out. She told me I was a brilliant actor but the feedback was that I made people feel uncomfortable because I was so nervous and intense. I just sat there and blubbed. My mum was staying in LA at the time and I went to her and said: ‘I just can’t do this. I’m not cut out for it.’ She just said: ‘Don’t believe a word people say about you. Forget them.’”

Is it weird that Naomi kind of gives me Jessica Chastain vibes? I mean that in a good way for the most part ? I think both women try to be purposefully bland and noncontroversial in their personal lives, and I think both women are talented and intelligent and they take their work seriously. It?s funny to me that they?re probably going to be going against each other for Best Actress. Jessica, Naomi, Jennifer Lawrence? maybe Marion Cotillard or Rachel Weisz or Helen Mirren. If you had to choose between Naomi and Jessica, who would you pick?

Continuing their St. Barts vacation, Naomi Watts and Liev Schreiber enjoyed two days at the beach with their children on Sunday and Monday (December 30-31).
The 44-year-old blonde beauty looked toned in her various swimwear as she and her handsome hunk played with Alexander and Samuel on shore.
Later, Liev took his boys in to the water to show them how to don a scuba mask and work a paddle board while Naomi watched from a beach chair.
Being sure to get in some alone time, the couple, who have been together since 2005, enjoyed a stroll along the shoreline hand in hand.

On the heels of her new film's release, Naomi Watts visited ?Late Night with Jimmy Fallon? on Wednesday (December 12).
Dressed in a chic maroon one-piece with a peek-a-boo key hole, the 44-year-old beauty chatted with the host about "The Impossible" and played a round of beer pong.
In regard to her new role, Ms. Watts stars alongside Ewan Mcgregor and the two portray a family caught in a natural catastrophe with thousands of strangers.
It is slated to hit theaters on December 21.

This is a historic day for me. And I?m sure, I?m absolutely positive that most if not all of you are going to disagree with me and yell at me. Suck it! No, I hear your complaints and I know that we usually don?t share the same taste in most fashion. I like conservative clothes and I like when women err on the side of caution. I love jewel tones. I?m tired of peplums and miniskirts and Marchesa and Stella McCartney. And you know what? I almost always hate Zac Posen, but not today. These are pics of last night?s Hollywood premiere of The Impossible, and Naomi Watts wore this Posen gown? and I love it. I think this may be my favorite thing she?s ever worn. It?s a beautiful cut on her, I love the fabric and the colors and I love her styling overall. Whoever she worked with for this look, she needs to work with them all of the time. Best Naomi Ever!
And here?s Ewan Mcgregor with his wife Eve at the premiere. They?ve been married 17 YEARS. And while we can debate whether or not they have an open marriage or whatever, I do buy that they love each other and that Ewan will never leave her. He loves Evie. He loves their family. He just has some recreational fun on the side.
Ewan?s suit is Balenciaga ? have I ever talked about how much I love that Ewan is a dandy? Ewan cares about clothes. He cares about men?s fashion. He likes to put an outfit together. And he almost always looks perfect and occasion-appropriate. Anyway? yeah, he?s the hotness.
And here?s Petra Nemcova, looking kind of rough. Going back to Sean Penn over and over? that has not been kind to her. I guess she?s there because The Impossible is about the 2004 Tsunami and Petra was there (and she was terribly injured).

Treating herself to an exciting evening out, Naomi Watts headed over to the popular hotspot Chateau Marmont in Hollywood last night (December 9).
The ?King Kong? cutie donned a grey winter coat teamed with a pair of Christian Louboutin peep toe ankle boots as she made her exit and hopped into a chauffeured car.
Meanwhile, Naomi recently confessed that her role in the forthcoming biopic ?Diana? was as intimidating as it was exhilarating.
"The film focuses on the last two years of her life. It was an experience. It's a high-risk project as well. I was petrified but intrigued. She's a fascinating woman full of complexities and contradictions ? all the kinds of women I like to play and surround myself with in real life. She was a rebel. She was very isolated. She didn't trust anyone. It's a fascinating story."

Heading out to promote her new film, "The Impossible," Naomi Watts attended The Wrap's Awards Season Screening Series event at Landmark Theaters in Los Angeles on Monday (October 22).
Looking chic and sophisticated, the 44-year-old actress wore a black and white patterned top, black jacket, skinny black jeans, and matching heels as she answered audience members' questions about the disaster flick.
On Thursday, the "Diana" star and her partner Liev Shreiber attended the 2012 Take Home a Nude Benefit Art Auction.
At the event, she admitted, "I?ve been to this event about 7 or 8 years in a row. I pretty much always ?take home a nude,' so I have now got a mini collection.?

Paying homage to one of America?s most beloved retailers, Naomi Watts attended the celebration of Target?s 50th Anniversary in New York City on Tuesday night (October 16).
The ?King Kong? actress looked effortlessly chic in skinny jeans, knee high black boots and a blazer as she casually posed for photos at the Center 548 held soiree.
Naomi's Target night on the town comes as she's been making sure to fit in plenty of family time amidst her demanding career as a big screen leading lady.
Over the course of the past week, Watts - along with her partner Liev Schreiber - took their two boys out for a casual bike ride in NYC while Naomi and youngest son Samuel paired up for a little one-on-one Big Apple bonding a few days later.

Ordinarily, I?m a big fan of Naomi Watts, but she?s been on my S?t List for a few months. It mainly has to do with her role in that Princess Diana bio-pic, in which she wears horrible wigs and self-servingly claims that Diana would have wanted her to do the movie, and that she has Diana?s postmortem ?permission?. But now I might have a new reason to throw some shade at Naomi? look at her styling at last night?s Venice Film Festival premiere of The Reluctant Fundamentalist.
Naomi wore this Marchesa dress that I can?t really decide on. For the most part, I think it?s a mistake for blondes to wear these beige-y/nude shades. That being said, Kate Hudson also went with a kind of beigey-rose-gold shade, and I absolutely loved her Versace, and I thought she looked amazing. So what?s my issue with this dress? Part of it just knee-jerk hatred of Marchesa, and the other part of it is just? this is a bad dress. It?s a bad dress on Naomi, and it?s a bad dress in general. It washes her out. Naomi does that a lot ? she wears gowns that make her look like a dishrag with red lipstick.
I should note? Naomi was only on the red carpet as a plus-one. Her dude (boyfriend/baby-daddy/fianc) Liev Schreiber is in the film (also starring Riz Ahmed, Kate Hudson and Kiefer Sutherland), so that?s why they were there. Incidentally, Liev and Naomi certainly rode out that little gossip blip about their relationship, didn?t they? Just as soon as there were whispers that Schreiber might be fooling around, there was a fast and furious denial, and a series of family photo-ops, and then everything went quiet and now here we are. I still wonder about them? but whatever. I guess they?re working through it.
PS? I?m also including some photos of former supermodel Laetitia Casta because I haven?t seen her in years, and she looks AMAZING. I think her dress is too? revealing. But she looks great.
