Treating herself to some Mother's Day shopping, Sofia Vergara was spotted out and about in New York City, New York on Sunday (May 13).
In sky-high wedge sandals, the "Modern Family" bombshell strutted around the Big Apple while hitting up a couple shops wearing a colorful green and brown maxi dress that she accessorized with large gold earring and dark sunglasses.
Sofia's shopping outing comes amidst news that she and her boyfriend of two years, Nick Loeb, called it quits after an inside source says the Colombian beauty called herself a single woman at the 2012 Met Gala.
The 39-year-old has been keeping busy with her hit ABC show "Modern Family" and, earlier this week, it was announced that the network renewed the show for it's fourth season.

Last week, Sofia Vergara broke up with her boyfriend of two years, Nick Loeb. The split didn?t surprise me at all – Sofia is a fun woman, she?s become something of a sensation, and she?s building up her brand with a lot of success. It seemed like Nick was trying to make her into something she wasn?t – like, he wanted her to be more ?traditional,? he wanted to get married and have a baby with Sofia, and he wanted her career to take a backseat to his political career. That was all just a large assumption on my part, but People Magazine is basically cosigning all of it. Looks like I read this couple correctly.
From the outside, Sofia Vergara and boyfriend Nick Loeb ? who have reportedly split ? seemed to be in it for the long haul. The vivacious Modern Family star remained a constant by Loeb’s hospital bedside as he recovered from a serious car accident in Aug. 2010. A year after the injury, Vergara also stood by her man when he considered running for the Florida U.S. Senate.
But behind the public appearances and PDA was an argumentative pair of opposites, who sources say had incredible chemistry, but were plagued by problems from day one.
One source close to Vergara’s inner circle, who tells PEOPLE the couple have broken up and gotten back together “over a million times,” calls their recent split, “a relief.”
“It was never a good match,” the insider says. “She is fiery and free-spirited and wants to enjoy life to the fullest by traveling and going to parties and events. He’s very concerned with his businesses, political aspirations and ultimately settling down.”
Reps for both Vergara and Loeb had no comment. Approaching 40, Vergara ? who was married at 18 and had a son when she was 20 ? has no current desire to tie the knot again or have more children. Loeb, on the other hand is what another friend describes as “very persistent almost to the point of annoying” about starting a family with the actress.
The source, who has known Loeb, 36, for years says his “overbearing, smothering” ways are another likely cause for the split.
A third source adds, “[Sofia] is happy with her life the way it is. If she ever did change her mind, it would be because he wanted all of this.” And although Vergara seemed like the storybook example of a supportive significant other, when it came to Loeb’s political aspirations, much of her happiness was an act.
“Nick put off his run for Senate because he [loved] Sofia and she didn’t think it was a good idea at this time,” the third source says. “[She] said it was because he was not fully healed from his accident. But in truth, she is sitting pretty in Hollywood and doesn’t want to be a political wife right now.”
At a Florida press conference Loeb held in November to announce he would not run for Senate, Vergara appeared like the ever-supportive partner as she joined her beau, but behind the scenes the situation was ugly.
“They fought because Nick had assumed too many things and Sofia was not ready for any commitment ? love or political,” the source says. “It was a bad scene.”
But it doesn’t sound like either of the two will have trouble finding someone new. Vergara’s spicy, confident attitude and sex appeal has made her one of the most talked about television actresses of the moment. And as for Loeb, the third source says he “has so many women after him that he won’t have trouble starting over.”

Yep. I got all of that just from some offhand remarks in some of Sofia?s interviews and their body language on various red carpets. All too often, it feels like the women in all of the high-profile relationships are the ones keeping the relationship afloat, that the women are the ones in love with love, the women are the ones who want to have everything settled. But I think the opposite was true here – Sofia has been married. She?s already a mom to an adult son. She?s been there, done that. She just wants to have fun now and make some money and have a booming career. I think she dumped Nick because he pushed her for a commitment and tried to make her into something she had no interest in being. And I think he?s super-bitter about it too.
And seriously, for the love of God? how is she not absolutely PERFECT for George Clooney? I know he wouldn?t go for her because she?s got her own career and stuff, but they would be so, so good together.

The tabloids sometimes claimed that Sofia and Nick were not going to make it as a couple, and I always kind of believed it too. Nick is a Republican political type from Florida, and he?s said to have big political ambitions (like, a Senate run). Sofia has her own thing going in Hollywood, and she seems to be solely career-focused these days. Miss Vergara wore a gorgeous Marchesa gown and jewels from Harry Winston at the event.

Do you know how difficult it is to make Sofia Vergara look like hell? You really have to be trying and exerting yourself, because Sofia is a naturally beautiful woman who looks great in a variety of styles. But not this. Sofia wore Marchesa to the Met Gala last night, and from what I can see, many are already declaring her one of the worst-dressed women of the night. For the love of God, why would you put this gorgeous bombshell in a pale grey sack?!?!?!?!!?
Of course, it?s not a sack dress. It just LOOKS like a sack dress because of the ?oversized? nature of the bust and the peplum. Should I even call this a peplum? Usually I just refer to this horrible design trend as a ?dust ruffle? but even I can?t joke about this monstrosity. She looks like she?s wearing a curtain!!! Why would you do this to such a beautiful woman?
I can?t decide if Sofia knows that she?s not working this dress, and that this dress would have looked horrible on anyone. That?s the problem with the Met Gala – all of these girls want to be ?dressed? by their personal friend, the designer —. When you bring personal friendships into the mix, things get complicated. I wonder if Georgina Chapman had to talk Sofia into this dress, and Sofia got second thoughts on her way to the gala.
Oh, and I think Sofia?s hair sucks too. She has great hair, and you can do so much with it! Why would you part it down the middle and tuck it behind her ears? Is that a ?high fashion? style now?

Everywhere she goes she?s the center of attention, and all eyes were on Sofia Vergara as she arrived at the 2012 Met Gala ?Schiaparelli and Prada: Impossible Conversations? tonight (May 7).
The ?Modern Family? female donned a strapless Marchesa dress paired with jewels from Harry Winston as she sauntered inside the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City.
The annual fete finds actress Carey Mulligan acting as honorary co-chair valongside designer Miuccia Prada and US Vogue editor-in-chief Anna Wintour, while Azealia Banks is lined up to perform.
As for the celebratory occasion, this year's rendition of the Met gala ushers in the 'Schiaparelli and Prada: Impossible Conversations' exhibition exploring "the striking affinities between Elsa Schiaparelli and Miuccia Prada, two Italian designers from different eras."
The display is described as being "inspired by Miguel Covarrubias's "Impossible Interviews" for Vanity Fair in the 1930s while featuring "orchestrated conversations between these iconic women to suggest new readings of their most innovative work."

On the differences between her character Gloria in 'Modern Family' and herself:
?Gloria was written for me, thinking of me. It is a variation of me. Me and my mother, we are all Latino. Through Gloria naturally express myself in my English with a heavy Spanish accent. At the beginning, here in America, sought to correct my accent. Now I do not care, I speak with a Spanish accent, people laugh, I like them all and have fun.?
On if she feels 'exploited' by her character:
?Not at all. It is I who takes the chances presented. My career is because of my look and I am not ashamed of it. My look has opened so many doors. But I also know that if I had something else, my career would have ended long ago. That?s why I see Sophia Loren as the perfect example of beauty, sex appeal and how the one presented in public.?
On being considered a sex symbol at nearly 40 years old:
?I am happy. Indeed it is strange, I remember when my mother was 40 and I saw it as great. Now I included in the lists of the best butt or breasts with top actresses like Megan Fox Mila Kunis or who are 20 years younger than me. That?s a great satisfaction for me.?

I?ve been off alcohol for the better part of a year (one exception: getting wasted on two glasses of port on Thanksgiving).
