You’ve probably heard by now that Mischa Barton had some sort of episode at her home and had to be taken to the hospital under an involuntary psychiatric hold.
People Magazine has a whole story chronicling all of Barton’s “troubles” and saying she’s a “party girl.” She drank a lot and was often photographed drunk, and she does have one DUI. She took responsibility for that, though, and seems like she handled it well in light of everything. She did have some normal personal issues like breakups with guys, but she’s young, and she’s always struck me as much more level headed than her peers.
I’m going to wildly speculate what happened, and a lot of people are going to assume it was “illegal” drugs, but I would bet it was some sort of prescription drug issue, either abuse of prescription drugs and alcohol or some kind of accident or side effect. I have no information whatsoever to make that assumption except for the story that she had dental surgery three weeks ago along with the fact so many people are having this problem lately.
I’ve seen friends become addicted to painkillers they really needed, their personalities totally changing in the process. Add a couple of cocktails in there and it can cause a person to really lose it. A drug interaction or new prescription can also lead to psychiatric problems that are completely uncharacteristic for a person.
All we know is that a young actress went to the psych ward and we have no idea what she was taking, if anything. When the same thing happened to Britney, though, people were quick to say she was crazy. They ignored the fact that Sam Lutfi was slipping drugs in potentially harmful combinations into her food. She did flip out, but she was also drugged against her will most of the time and people forget that. You mix some of that stuff together and it can really mess a person up. Sure there is free will and personal responsibility, but that doesn’t mean we can’t show compassion and give someone the benefit of the doubt.
Ten to one Mischa had a bad reaction to something, illegal or not, and she didn’t just wig out on her own. We’ll have to wait and see if we learn what happened though, and for now this is pure conjecture. The important thing is that she’s ok, is under supervision, and will hopefully get proper treatment. Police removed actress Mischa Barton from her Hollywood home yesterday after suffering from what friends describe as an acid flashback “freak out.” According to Us Magazine
“We responded to her home last night on a medical issue,” Officer April Harding tells Us. “We assisted… [and] she was removed from her home.”
A source tells Us Barton called the police herself after having a “freak out.”
Her people are calling it a “medical non-emergency” and implying she left of her own accord, but the fact remains that the officer used the word “removed” in describing her departure from her house. Nothing good ever gets “removed.” You remove a stain or a wart or a hobo from the grill of your car or “The O.C.” from your fall lineup three fucking years ago. Why are we still talking about this bitch again?
UPDATE: According to MSNBC, Mischa is under a 5150 hold — the very same hold used on Britney Spears last year when she went batshit insane — at Cedars-Sinai Hospital in L.A. Ten bucks says she tried to kill herself by overdosing on sad pills. Actors. So fucking predictable!

Cops picked up Mischa Barton yesterday and people speculated that it was because of a toothache. Looks like it was more than that because the LAPD has placed her under an involuntary psychiatric hold, better known as a 5150. This is the same 5150 they put Britney under twice in January of last year.
According to the code, authorities can hold a person involuntarily if they present a danger to themselves or others, are gravely disabled or suffer from a mental disorder.
Mischa’s spokesperson confirmed that she will not be attending the premiere of Homecoming tonight in NY. When pressed for details, her spokesperson shrugged, twirled their finger around their ear and rolled their eyes.

Former "O.C." actress Mischa Barton was removed from her home by the Los Angeles Police Department Wednesday after what a police spokesperson is calling a "medical issue."
"It was apparently yesterday a little after 3 in the afternoon, and one of the patrol units in West L.A. division responded to her home for a medical issue," an LAPD spokesperson, Richard French, told MTV News on Thursday (July 16). "The police department is currently assisting her with that. No one was arrested and there were no other persons involved in this incident."
No further details have been released about Barton's condition or where the police may have brought the 23-year-old actress. Barton's rep was not available for comment about the incident at press time.
However, in a statement to People,
Barton rep Craig Schneider said, "Police were involved due to Ms. Barton's celebrity status, to safely transfer her to medical treatment as per doctor's orders," he said, adding that Barton is now "OK and resting."
The "medical issue" means that Barton won't be able to make Thursday night's premiere of her new film, "Homecoming." A producer for the film told People, "There were some medical problems. She's not able to travel, as far as I know." He added that "because she did a great job" playing a homecoming queen in the flick, he was "disappointed" she wouldn't make it.
The film's director also responded to the news that Barton wouldn't make the premiere, issuing a statement to Access Hollywood.
"I along with everyone on the 'Homecoming' team are saddened to hear that Mischa Barton will not be able to attend the film's premiere tonight in New York," director Morgan J. Freeman said. "Her performance in 'Homecoming' is fantastic, and she will be missed at our premiere."
In addition to her work in "Homecoming," Barton was ready to make her return to TV this fall in the CW's new show, "The Beautiful Life." Barton was arrested late in 2007 and charged with a D.U.I. and marijuana possession. She was sentenced to attend alcohol education classes, 36 months probation and pay a fine.

Mischa Barton?s gotten a lot of attention recently for the dramatic change in her appearance. Her face has looked severely bloated while her eyes have been wide as saucers. She generally just looks really, really out of it. Barton said the bloating in her face was due to getting her wisdom teeth removed, which could be possible. But she?s also had drug and alcohol problems in the past, and it?s possible she?s struggling with those issues again.
To complicate matters, last night Mischa mysteriously called the police to her home for some sort of problem. She was removed from the home and taken somewhere ? the cops won?t say where.
Mischa Barton was removed from her West Hollywood home Wednesday by police, an LAPD spokesperson confirms to Usmagazine.com.
“We responded to her home last night on a medical issue,” Officer April Harding tells Us. “We assisted with it. She was removed from her home.”
Harding tells Us no 911 call was received, and that she was not sure if Barton, 23, was in distress. When asked if the actress was cooperative, she tells Us: “I guess.”
Harding did not release details on where Barton was taken, citing California privacy laws.

The actress — best known for her role on The O.C. — was charged in 2008 with DUI and marijuana possession. She was sentenced to 36 months probation, told to attend alcohol education classes and pay a fine.

My instinct is still drugs, however according to Radar, Mischa wasn?t arrested. And while she could have been delivered to a rehab center, these are cops. If she was under the influence of drugs, wouldn?t they have most likely arrested her? My second thought was that perhaps she?s having some sort of breakdown and was taking to a psychiatric hospital. That would explain the ?freak out? comment made by one of Barton?s friends. Drugs could still be the root of the problem ? or it could be something else. But it seems strange for police to go to Mischa?s home for what?s being called a medical issue.
According to People, Mischa canceled her appearance at the premiere of her film ?Homecoming? tonight. Someone who I?m presuming is Mischa?s publicist (People has a typo in their article and omits his relationship to Mischa, but from the context that appears to be his job) is saying the police just came to escort her to the doctor. Right.
The star’s Craig Schneider, tells PEOPLE exclusively that police were only needed to protect the former O.C. star from the media as she was transported to her doctor.
“Police were involved due to Ms. Barton’s celebrity status, to safely transfer her to medical treatment as per doctor’s orders,” Schneider tells PEOPLE, adding that Barton is now “okay and resting.”

That sounds like one of the worst generic PR lines since starlets starting needing hospitalization for ?dehydration? and ?exhaustion.? Um, she is not that big a celebrity, whoever you are Craig Schneider. I seriously doubt Mischa was being so mobbed by fans that she couldn?t get to the doctor. My money is still on a breakdown, but for Mischa?s sake I hope I?m totally wrong.

Known for her fair share of troubles, Mischa Barton had to be removed from her West Hollywood home by police last night (July 15).
According to Us magazine sources, the former “OC” star was somewhat cooperative while being taken away by LAPD, whom she’s said to have called herself following a “freak out”.
“We responded to her home last night on a medical issue,” Officer April Harding said. “We assisted with it. She was removed from her home.”
The incident comes as Mischa readies to star in “Beautiful Life,” a new show premiering this fall on the CW.

Mishca Barton was thrown out of the ladies’ room when she tried to bring her girlfriend Bridget inside at Whisky Mist in Mayfair. Apparently the rule is only one person at a time. Fascists. The Daily Mail says Mischa “looked really pissed off and embarrassed but her friend was fine about it.” She ended going in anyway.
Mischa ended up going into the stall alone and stayed in there for a long time. She probably sneezed on her line and had to suck it up off the floor.
She apparently took so long that the attendant was forced to check if she was feeling okay.
An onlooker said: ‘She took so long to emerge that everyone was worried about her.
‘At one point the toilet attendant had to knock on her door twice to ask if she was alright. Then her mate was knocking to check she was feeling okay.’
The source added: ‘When she came out of the cubicle, she was complaining about people knocking on the door. She looked slightly worse for wear as she attempted to apply her make-up.’
Maybe it wasn’t drugs. Maybe she had to take a massive dump. I had the same thing going on in Tiajuana. Except, over there in the clubs they only let you use the stall to vomit. Needless to say, my toilet looked like a crime scene when I got home, but instead of blood lining the sides, it was poop.

I have no problem with Mischa Barton in concept. She’s a mediocre to terrible actress who gets a lot of flak for her weight and thinks she’s a fashionista. And here is where I start disliking her - she just takes herself so seriously. In an interview with People, she promotes the Spring 2009 line of her headbands and explains that her style is so eclectic because she’s traveled so much the past year. You can almost see her agent writing these sound bytes for her.
Style icon Mischa Barton might be known for seamlessly shifting from retro-cool street style and red carpet elegance, but regardless of where she?s headed, Mischa tells PEOPLE.com, ?Accessorizing is oddly my favorite part of dressing up.? It comes as no surprise then that the actress has been having fun developing her headband collection with designer Stacey Lapidus. Mischa says that she found inspiration for the hair accessories, which range from $50 to $200, in her jet set lifestyle.
?I?ve been working in the likes of India, Milan, Paris, London, Montreal, L.A, and NYC,? she explains. ?My style has been somewhat boho chic, which I think is a result of having traveled so extensively throughout the course of the past year.? And she?s about to get even busier! You can check out the headbands here, and I have to say that I am not at all impressed. Some of them you could put together yourself with $10, a hot glue gun, and a trip to a craft store. The beaded ones you could probably find at a quarter of the price at Claire’s or, if you’re feeling really adventurous, a craft show or farmer’s market. It probably doesn’t help that I really don’t understand the headbands that are meant to be worn down on the forehead. To me, they just look a little dumb.
I’m not sure what’s so fashion-forward about $150 fake flowered headbands, but whatever floats your boat, Mischa.
