These are some photos of Reese Witherspoon going into and coming out of the Ed Sullivan Theater last night, where she made an appearance on The Late Show With David Letterman. I?m not being fair to Reese, using this bitchface?d photo as the header. I like her little bitchface, though. She has a great one, and I suspect that just like me and Jessica Alba, Reese?s default expression is rather surly and unpleasant.
Of course, Reese may have a reason to feel surly. She?s promoting This Means War, which is getting not-so-great reviews (some are just awful, honestly). Industry insiders are also shaking their heads at this film – it was supposed to get a wide release today, but last week the studio pushed it back to Friday. There are still going to be ?sneak-peek screenings? tonight in some-odd 2000 theaters though – I guess they?re hoping for a ?soft opening? and then a word-of-mouth success? The problem might be that though This Means War is being billed as an entertaining romantic comedy in which Reese plays a fun-loving sexy ditz, the critics say it?s just plain embarrassing. Here?s part of MSNBC?s review, which is one of the first ones to pop up when I googled (you can read the whole thing here):
Some films have certain scenes that need to be redone, but on “This Means War” the whole picture should have been sent back for a reshoot. This perfectly dreadful romantic action comedy manages to embarrass its three eminently attractive leading players in every scene, making this an automatic candidate for whatever raspberries or golden turkeys or other dubious awards may be given in future for the films of 2012. It’s an eye-roller from start to finish, although the promise of a sexy competition between two CIA hunks for the attention of a man-starved honey might attract some misguided souls. Originally set to open on Valentine’s Day, which falls on a Tuesday this year, the Fox release has been hastily rescheduled simply to sneak on Feb. 14 and legitimately bow three days later.
There is more than a hint of kinship between the eventually violent rivalry that develops here when best buds FDR Foster (Chris Pine) and Tuck (Tom Hardy) both court the very available Lauren (Reese Witherspoon) and the competitive relationship of Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie in “Mr. and Mrs. Smith,” a fact that might have something to do with the contributions of screenwriter Simon Kinberg to both films (this one was co-written by Timothy Dowling). The more elegant ladykiller FDR and brawnier but less refined Tuck are best mates and at first think they can handle the contest, but when it seems Lauren likes them both equally, the claws come out.
?It gets worse right away, in embarrassing scenes in which the beautiful Lauren runs into an old flame and his fiancee on the street in Los Angeles and pretends she’s off to meet her (nonexistent) boyfriend for lunch, then immediately encounters the couple again when she’s alone at a sushi bar. Surely a composed and confident 30-something professional woman like her would no longer act like a silly teenager in such a situation.
To cure Lauren’s condition, her so-called best friend Trish (Chelsea Handler) registers her with an online dating site, which is where she comes to Tuck’s attention. For his part, FDR tries to pick her up in a giant video store (does such a thing still exist?), but Lauren gives him an initial heave-ho after an argument over the relative merits of Hitchcock films — he having recommended “The Lady Vanishes” and she insisting upon the superiority of the director’s later American films.
At the center of things, presumably, is Lauren’s decision of which man to choose. Her confidant is written in to provide a sounding board and goad her into action, but Handler has been photographed to look practically like Lauren’s mom and appears entirely at a loss; the ?actress? barely even makes eye contact with Witherspoon and has no sense of creating a character.
The one thing Trish does suggest is for Lauren to give both guys a test drive. But such a move would have pushed the film dangerously into “Jules and Jim” territory, which might have been the one move that could have provided “This Means War” with some genuine edge and interest but also would have made Lauren too loose a woman for a mass consumption movie such as this. No risk, no gain.
The three leads do look awfully good doing very stupid things and all will survive to star another day. The sooner this one recedes into the rear-view mirror the better for all concerned.
[From MSNBC]
Sounds about right – insipid, dumb, poorly written and poorly executed. Plus Chelsea Handler?s ridiculous presence. You could pretty much see all of that from the trailer. I also checked Rotten Tomatoes – the film is currently scored at 41%. Not good, but not the worst. Is this really how Reese wants to stay on top? With these kinds of idiotic career moves? Dear Reese: You are an Oscar-winning actress. Stop trying to be Jennifer Aniston.

Dagger-chinned Reese Witherspoon showed up at the premiere of This Means Warin a low cut top and black skirt and there isn’t one picture here where she’s not smiling hard. She needs to seriously calm down because this is starting to get creepy.

I’m not sure that Reese Witherspoon has been considered a sex object in like a decade now, unless you find women picking up their kids at school in sweatpants sexy, but I’ve got to say I’m kind of impressed with these shots. She’s looking good, not too wholesome and her breasts are falling out of

Stepping out for a swanky evening, Reese Witherspoon was spotted at the premiere of her new flick ?This Means War? in Los Angeles last night (February 8).
The ?Sweet Home Alabama? babe looked lovely as she arrived at Grauman?s Chinese Theater in Hollywood, sporting a sexy, strapless black dress with matching heels.
Also along for the ride were Reese?s hunky costars Chris Pine and Tom Hardy, who both had all the ladies swooning in their dark, dapper suits.
?This Means War? is about two top CIA operatives who wage an epic battle against one another after they discover they are dating the same woman. It hits theaters February 17th.

I was going to tell you a joke about Reese Witherspoon’s chin, but it was just too long. Ha ha, get it? Too long? Because it was the length of her chin to which I was referring, rather than the duration of the joke itself? It’s a little something called “double entendre,” from the French for “yeah, I know it’s still not funny, asswipe.”

Reese Witherspoon covers the March issue of Glamour UK, all to promote her latest film, This Means War. That?s the one where we?re supposed to buy that Chris Pine and Tom Hardy are super-spies vying for Reese?s affection. The styling on this photo shoot is much more standard Reese, as opposed to how Elle Mag was trying to make her seem last month – like a Jennifer Aniston-style beachy ditz. Glamour UK made Reese look how she usually looks – pulled-together, dainty, lady-like, pretty. I prefer Reese like this, because I think this is close to how she really is. Anyway, here are some highlights from Reese?s interview:
Reese on plastic surgery: ?I’m not for it. I’m not against it. I have plenty of friends who do stuff and if it makes you feel good, great … but I don’t think it’s the fix for some sort of unease that you’re having about who you are as a human being. I don’t think I need plastic surgery at this point: Can we just go day-by-day on that one??
On body image (she has an underwear scene in the film): “‘I don’t worry about it. I have the body I earned: I had two kids and I’m still strong and healthy. And you start to have a different respect for your body the older you get. Instead of tearing yourself apart all the time, you start to go ‘Oh wow.’”
On being frugal: Although she recently splashed out on a black Valentino bag, she revealed she can’t bring herself to buy an expensive bag from The Row – Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen’s fashion label. She laments: ?I have this fixation about this black leather The Row purse, but it’s so prohibitively expensive, I will not allow myself to buy it. I literally go to the store to visit it. Too much money – it feels decadent. I can’t wrap my brain around it. If I bought it, I’d only feel upset about it and take it back.? However, she justified her purchase of the Valentino bag, because ?it’s super-plain and beautiful and just feels like something you’ll have forever.?
[From The Mail]
I?m sure Reese?s comments about plastic surgery will get lots of play, but I find them pretty boiler plate. I buy that she?s not getting tweaked, and I buy that she doesn?t judge (too much) when her friends get tweaked. Meh. What I find really interesting is the stuff about her frugality – do you think that?s for real? I?ll buy that Reese is the kind of woman (like me) who can talk herself out of buying something expensive even though she really wants it. But it feels like Reese is trying too hard to relate to ?normal? women, right? That?s the aim of the story – ?I live on a budget too, y?all!?

| Reese Witherspoon in Louis Vuitton in London: ill-fitting fug or quite cute? | Added 12 years ago | Source: CeleBitchy |

Last night was the UK premiere of This Means War, that absolutely horrible-looking Reese Witherspoon vehicle which is just a rip-off of Mr. and Mrs. Smith (only in this one, the two spies are dudes and ?the girl? is just a clumsy ditz!). Reese wore Louis Vuitton for the premiere, which? maybe on Cate Blanchett, I might kind of like this dress. But is it just me, or is this dress really unflattering on Reese?s figure? It makes her look really thick in the middle, and she?s NOT. It also makes her look like she?s hiding a boob job, which she very well may be hiding (new husband, new boobs?). Should I even say anything about the bangs (trauma)? I think Reese has a pretty heart-shaped face, and these scraggily, flat-ironed bangs don?t do much. I almost wish she had just kept the Jennifer Aniston-esque ?beachy ditz? styling.
So unflattering. Why is she smiling like that? She?s going to bust something, she?s trying so hard.
Reese?s costars also walked the red carpet – here?s Chris Pine. This boy is handsome, but he does nothing for me. I think his attractive face seems kind of douchey.
But Tom Hardy was also there, and I need some alone time with these photos. JESUS. *fans self* Tom Hardy with a beard and a scarf? Who knew? He looks gorgeous. Unfortunately (or fortunately?), Tom seems to be back with his ex-fiance, Charlotte Riley. They broke up a year ago (after Tom seemed to have gotten cozy with Lindsay Lohan!!!), but I guess they?re back on. She was at the premiere too, and they posed together briefly, but not exclusively. Don?t even get me started on her bow-covered dress.

After months of hard work and dedication, Reese Witherspoon, Chris Pine, and Tom Hardy were finally able to premiere their latest film offering, ?This Means War,? on Monday (January 30).
With director McG also on-hand, the good-looking co-stars arrived in style as they posed for pictures on the red carpet outside the Odeon Kensington Cinema in London, England.
Set to hit US theaters on February 14, the film was initially given an R-rating for ?some sexual content? that mostly came from a character played by the funny but crude, Chelsea Handler.
Shortly after hearing this news, Fox immediately pulled some of the explicit content and got the rating docked down to PG-13.

Touching down in the City of Lights, Reese Witherspoon made her grand arrival into Roissy Airport in Paris, France earlier this afternoon (January 26).
Showing off her newly styled coif, the "This Means War" stunner donned freshly-cut bangs while clad in a print scarf and trendy black jacket as she trekked through the terminal.
Joining a slew of other A-list stylistas, Reese's Parisian travels comes just in time for her to enjoy the city's final day of the Haute Couture Spring Summer 2012 fashion week.
Among the stars to attend the various swanky shows were fabulous folks like Vanessa Paradis, Diane Kruger, Elizabeth Olsen and Cameron Diaz.

| Reese Witherspoon in red Zac Posen at the Globes: amazing or try-hard? | Added 12 years ago | Source: CeleBitchy |

I have such mixed feelings about Reese Witherspoon?s appearance at the Golden Globes last night. She was there as a presenter, and her film This Means War comes out in a few weeks, so Reese is trying to promote the film in a big way. I respect that – Reese hustles like everyone else. More power to her. But? but? but? is this working? I noticed it in Reese?s recent Elle Magazine profile – she?s really trying to change up her image from ?Type A, anal retentive good girl? to ?beachy, sexy, ditzy bombshell.? There?s a disconnect, at least for me.
But let?s talk about the fashion and styling. Reese?s dress is Zac Posen, and although it looks okay in still photos, in motion, you could tell that Reese had poured herself into something that was much too tight. She was basically hopping down the carpet and taking little baby steps on the stage. The dress is interesting though – love a blonde in fire-engine red, and I don?t hate the detailing on her hips. The dress makes her look like a shiny red Corvette, right? So, on some level, I really like this and I think Reese looks beautiful in a new way. And her body looks AMAZING.
As for the hair – CB claimed that Reese was just doing ?big, Southern hair.? NO SHE WASN?T!!! This is not Southern hair. This is big, teased up ?beach hair?. It looks scraggily and overworked, like she was trying too hard to look bedheady. You know what this whole thing reminds me of? Reese is trying to become the next Jennifer Aniston. She?s trying to adopt that kind of image – more low-key, more fun, more beaches and smiles and girl-next-door sex appeal. The problem? Reese Witherspoon is an Oscar-winner with two kids. I don?t buy that she spends her spare time in Cabo drinking Mojitos. Reese isn?t that woman. But someone convinced her that the kind of woman she really is wasn?t selling. And that bothers me.
