Reese Witherspoon is the cover girl for the October issue of Marie Claire. The cover is much, much too pink, but I really like the black-and-white pictorial. Considering she doesn?t have a movie coming out, I think she just got the cover to talk about her work with Avon, and how she?s The New Reese. The New Reese went into effect earlier this year, around the time everyone figured out that she could no longer carry a movie and defend her $15 million-plus paychecks. All of a sudden, Reese seemed to want to change up her image from the oh-so-wholesome single mother/America?s sweetheart (who couldn?t carry a movie). She kept up the appearances at church, of course, and she got engaged to Jim Toth. But she did some sexier pictorials, began talking up her desire to break out of the rom-com mold, and then she started hanging out with Chelsea Handler, and she made some remarks at the MTV Movie Awards that I found rather patronizing. Oh, and Reese?s entire honeymoon ?somehow? got pap?d too, which is weird considering Reese weeps mournful privacy tears when she?s photographed, even when she sells her wedding photos in America and the UK. I kind of wish she had stuck to her old image. Here are some highlights from the interview (full piece here):
Public speaking for Avon: “I’m scared to speak in public,” she says. “I’m really nervous about it. It’s weird, because on a movie set, I’m fine. But I get really nervous in front of crowds.” When she accepted this job [as Global brand ambassador for Avon] four years ago, she says, “I used to shake when I talked at these conferences.”
Fears: “I used to not ever travel,” she says, gazing out at the spires of Red Square. “I’ve gotten over so many phobias. Five years ago, I was terrified to travel. I was scared to leave my kids.” She smiles. “It’s still not the best feeling. But this is an opportunity to turn the spotlight on something that’s important to me.”
On confidence: “I always had a lot of confidence when I was younger, and then I think I got a little nervous in my 20s,” she says. “But now I feel better. Now I’m in my 30s, totally better. A little more confident again. Not as scared.”
The divorce from Ryan Phillippe: “I was hard on myself when I got divorced. And until I got remarried, I don’t think I realized how stressed I was,” she says, referring to her marriage this past March to Hollywood talent agent Jim Toth. “I feel so much relief. I don’t think I recognized how anxious I was about being a single parent. It was really, really stressful. It’s not easy on anybody. I think Nora Ephron says in one of her books, ‘You know, don’t kid yourself, divorce is really hard on your children. It’s really hard. Children will not be better for it.’” Witherspoon reflects on that last statement. “I mean, there are extenuating circumstances. I’m sure everybody’s life is different, so I shouldn’t say that. But it’s really traumatic. Now I feel a great sense of relief and an incredible amount of support from my husband.”
More on Jim Toth: “You know, somebody close to me once said, ‘Oh, no man will ever accept your children.’ And I just thought it was the most horrifying thing someone has ever said to me in my entire life,” she says, a slight Southern lilt emerging. “I was determined to find somebody who would make that not true. And I got lucky. I did. I got very lucky, and he’s wonderful. And so wonderful with the children. I’m very blessed.”

I don?t have any problems with this interview - she?s showing off her ?vulnerable? side, and I think she?s probably being very honest here, especially about her worries when she was a single mother. I think Reese is a good mom, but I?ve often wondered if she?s a bit too high-strung, a bit too tightly wound. What happens when something snaps?

Taking full advantage of a day off, Reese Witherspoon was spotted taking care of her to-do list in Brentwood, California yesterday (September 1).
The ?Sweet Home Alabama? actress stopped by a friend?s house before hitting up the Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf and heading off to an eye doctor appointment. Whew!
Reese recently had lunch with Taylor Swift at Boa Steakhouse in LA, and the topic of their shared ex-boyfriend Jake Gyllenhaal came up in conversation.
According to an insider, ?They talked about how vain and self-absorbed Jake can be. They laughed about it.?

It?s no secret that she?s a worldwide icon, and Reese Witherspoon recently signed on as the face of Lindex?s Fall 2011 campaign.
The ?Cruel Intentions? babe looks amazing in the new advertisements for the Swedish clothing company, and it sounds like the partnership is a perfect fit.
Reese told press, ?I have always loved denim and knitted garments that can be mixed and matched. Lindex?s fashion suits my style perfectly and I am very pleased to be a model for the new collection.?
The 35-year old mother-of-two/actress will appear in spots for Lindex through the end of the year.

Swedish fashion label Lindex has hired Reese Witherspoon as spokesmodel for their Autumn 2011 campaign called “California Denim,” which arrives with a so-called breaking concept called “Get the Look.” According to Lindex, Reese personifies the company because she’s “positive, warm and full of energy and she has a fantastic ability to combine a carefree style with Hollywood glamour.” From the looks of the collection on the Lindex website, this is a fairly limited yet highly affordable fashion line based upon knitted garments and layers for the fall season. As part of her contract, Reese has also filmed a promotional video that contains a few commonsensical tips from the lady herself:
“A small secret about fashion I think every woman should know is learn what looks good on you.”
“The collection fits my lifestyle cause I think it’s sophisticated enough to go to a business meeting but also casual enough to be at home with your family.”
“Becoming a mother at age 22 was a huge defining moment in my life. It really changed my personality, I think for the better.”
“The best career advice I’ve ever been given is probably just do what you’re good at.”
So Lindex is aiming squarely for the Reese demographic here by including statements that would appeal to everyday (young) working mothers. Although I am a big fan of the red sweater look shown below, the fringe purse has to go, and the rest of the collection is cute and slightly 1970s but still sort of preppy as well. It’s definitely stuff that I can already see Reese wearing on her paparazzi runs with the kids too.
Speaking of getting papped, Reese is finally back from her second honeymoon with new husband Jim Toth. She was snapped out at the market while wearing one of her trademarked high-waisted skirts but, oddly, doesn’t look thrilled to be photographed here:

Offering up another glimpse at her latest inked art, Reese Witherspoon showed off her tummy tat while vacationing in Hawaii with husband Jim Toth and her two kids over the weekend (August 14).
Enjoying her second summer vacation with the family, Reese, Jim, Deacon Phillippe and Ava Phillippe headed to the tropic locale to bask in he beauty of the Aloha State before the children return to school this fall.
The "Legally Blonde" beauty took to the waters in a teeny blue printed bikini, which gave perfect view of the ink job piece - a pair of birds surrounding a star on her lower abdomen.
Witherspoon first donned her recently-acquired midriff mark while on a July 4th holiday in the Pacific, however, at that time it was unknown if the design was permanent.

The ?Water for Elephants? hottie tried to stay incognito by wearing workout gear and ball cap, but couldn?t fool those sneaky paparazzi who got photos of her outside the Country Mart.
In career news, it was just announced that Witherspoon is teaming up with Matthew McConaughey for the first time ever.
The famous actors are set to star in the upcoming film called ?Mud,? which was written by Jeff Nichols who also wrote ?Take Shelter? and ?Shotgun Stories.?

Tending to her grocery list, Reese Witherspoon and her daughter Ava stepped out to a Brentwood, California Whole Foods store on Tuesday afternoon (July 12).
The identical mother-daughter duo kept it casual for their shopping excursion, however, 11-year-old Ava did sport one extra accessory - a knee brace on her left knee.
Meanwhile, rumors that Reese and new husband Jim Toth are currently expecting have made their way to the tabloids once again, as one source told OK! magazine that the super-fit 35-year-old is looking "softer" than usual.
According to the insider, ?Reese may be pregnant. Her stomach isn?t washboard flat and people have noticed. She?s relaxed her exercise routine. Reese typically hits the pavement for a long run every morning." However, a source close to Witherspoon denies the baby bump claim, telling Gossip Cop she is definitely "not preggers."

Earlier in the day, Reese had the esteemed honor of spending some face time with Prince William and Kate Middleton as they wrapped up their North American tour.
Ms. Witherspoon hung out with the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge at the launch of the US Patrons Circle of Tusk, an African wildlife conservation charity.
