France?s centuries-old tradition of The Legion of Honors dates back to Napoleon, but it’s been deemed a joke after French President Nicolas Sarkozy knghted both Salma Hayek and her father-in-law by means of being very good personal friends with her tycoon husband. The Daily Mail says:
President Nicolas Sarkozy announced that she will become a Chevalier ? or Knight – of the Legion of Honour for her services to the French Republic.
It is not yet clear what those services are.
Ms Hayek is currently promoting Puss in Boots, a film in which she provides the voice for a character called Kitty Softpaws.
Crucially, Ms Hayek is married to businessman Francois-Henri Pinault, who happens to be a close personal friend of Mr Sarkozy.
Her father-in-law, another tycoon called Francois Pinault, has been made a Grand Officer of the Legion of Honour in the same list.
[Former minister and member of Mr Sarkozy's ruling UMP party] Henri Torre turned down a Legion of Honour, saying: ?Too many people were nominated who do not deserve to me honored?, adding that the awards had ?lost their value?.
Please. Those awards didn’t lose their value because they they were given to a second-rate Mexican actress who happened to marry up. Those awards lost their value by way of being fucking French. It’d be like if they gave out Purple Hearts every time you run off a battlefield clutching both asscheeks and crying. Worthless.

I mean no disrespect to Salma Hayek?s career in this post. I?ve always liked her as actress, and God knows, I?ve seen Desperado like a million times. Salma is one of the few Mexican actresses to have been nominated for an Oscar, correct? I believe the group is very, very small, and Salma should be very proud of what she?s achieved in two decades in Hollywood. But does Salma deserve to be knighted by the French government for her ?career?? I mean, really? Let?s just call this what it is? the French government giving Salma Hayek a knighthood for having a great rack and boning a Frenchman.
Salma Hayek: Knight?
The Puss In Boots actress was among those named by President Nicolas Sarkozy to receive the Lgion d’Honneur Sunday. Hayek, 45, will enter the five-tiered honor academy with the grade of Chevalier or “Knight.”
Announced in the President’s official New Year’s list, Hayek will receive a formal induction, which involves a Presidential medal pinning. Her induction will likely occur at the lyses Palace within the next two months, says a source.
Founded by Napoleon in 1802 as a merit award, the Legion of Honor is awarded to military personnel and civilians for service to France. It is not exclusively reserved for the French and is often awarded to figures of international standing.
Past recipients ? who are entitled to wear a small rosette pin indicating their rank ? include Jerry Lewis, Clint Eastwood, Robert Redford and Robert De Niro.
In making the grade this year, Hayek’s honor was also something of a unique family affair: her father-in-law, retired business magnate Francois Pinault, was promoted in the same list to the Legion’s exalted rank of Grand Officer.

Nearing the end of one of the lengthiest press tours in recent memory, Salma Hayek was back on the red carpet for the Australian premiere of ?Puss in Boots? on Sunday (November 27).
The Oscar-nominated actress was joined by fellow co-star Antonio Banderas as the pair greeted the crowd gathered at HOYTS Entertainment Quarter in Sydney.
The visit comes ahead of the animated picture's Land Down Under release date of December 8th, though the film hit theaters in the States back on October 28th while already raking in $136.5 million to date.
As for "Puss In Boots," the Chris Miller directed film tells "a story about the events leading up to the sword fighting cat's meeting with Shrek and his friends."
Proclaiming how lucky she was to nab such a fabulous role, Miss Hayek (who voices Kitty Softpaws) dished, "I?ll tell you, I have a great win in this one. Everything [Puss] does, I outsmart him."
The 45-year-old added, ?How many times do you get a part where the female outsmarts [the male lead] every time in every way? And I?m always one step ahead, and [Kitty?s] actually a comprehensive character. I love her?I love her because she starts out one thing and she finishes as something else. [The movie] has an arc, it has a dramatic arc, and I think that Kitty Softpaws is a great female character, one of the few wonderful ones out there."

Tending to their busy promotional schedule, Salma Hayek and Antonio Banderas were spotted at a ?Puss in Boots? photocall in Madrid, Spain on Wednesday (November 23).
The ?Grown Ups? beauty and the ?Thick as Thieves? actor hit the press area together to pose for pictures where Banderas planted a wet one on Hayek for all to see.
Since ?Puss in Boots? hit theaters in the US on Friday, October 8 ? the silly-hearted co-stars have paid visits to Brazil, France and Germany to promote their flick.
Still sitting pretty at the box office, the animated film pulled in over 11 million last weekend.

Arriving to promote their latest film, Salma Hayek and Antonio Banderas attended the German premiere of ?Puss in Boots? on Tuesday (November 22).
The ?Bandidas? babe and ?The Big Bang? star walked arm-in-arm and posed for pictures outside the CineStar Sony Center movie theater in Berlin, Germany after having visited SAT.1 TV studios at Fernsehwerft earlier in the day.

Making yet another stop on her worldwide promotional tour, Salma Hayek was spotted at the Paris premiere of "Puss In Boots" earlier today (November 20).
Dressed in a beautiful bold blue frock, the Mexican actress looked stunning as she joined alongside co-star Antonio Banderas for the French debut of their animated cat caper.
During a recent interview with ET, Miss Hayek dished about the excitement she felt after joining the "Puss In Boots" cast, telling, "I love the movie "Shrek." You know the cat steals the movie. I could not believe my luck when they asked me to play the part."
As for how she prepped for her vocal duties, Hayek explained, "For me it was more about creating the cat-attitude than the voice...I Just used my regular voice but just gave it the attitude."

Still immersed on her whirlwind "Puss In Boots" promotional tour, Salma Hayek said goodbye to Brazil as she arrived at the airport in Rio de Janeiro to catch a flight on Saturday (November 19).
The "Frida" actress was certainly in a festive mood, as she passed through the South American terminal wearing a personalized Flamengo jersey with a big smile stretching across her beautiful face.
Having made the trip to Brazil after a stop in Mexico - Miss Hayek and her "Puss In Boots" co-star Antonio Banderas were honored at the Es.cine festival.
Receiving the Luis Buuel prize for promoting goodwill between Mexico and Spain, festival director Enrique Rubio told FOX News, ?Salma is the most recognizable figure in Mexico and she has taken our country to every corner of the world."
