These are some assorted photos from the Cannes Film Festival from the past? let?s say, 48 hours. There were a few big premieres, although? I don?t think some of these films are actually in competition. Like, Madagascar 3 isn?t in competition. Lawless is, although the star of Lawless, Ryan Gosling, didn?t show up to Cannes. (Update: Sorry, I thought Gosling is in that movie – guess not). Anyway. These photos aren?t all-inclusive or anything, these are just the dudes and ladies and dresses I wanted to talk about. Go ahead and yell at me.
First up! Salma Hayek (with Francois-Henri Pinault) in Gucci at the Madagascar 3 premiere. It?s very? eh. I prefer when Salma goes for cleaner, simpler styles. This whole look seems very showgirl and drag queen to me.

Quite recently, Salma Hayek discussed her acne-triggered depression, and Kaiser theorized that Salma was using the topic as a talking point to relate to the little people. It was a very valid hypothesis given that Salma is now married to a billionaire, but it appears that Salma also had another purpose to bringing up the topic; that is, Salma is now promoting her own anti-pimple medication. It’s an over-the-counter product that is part of her beauty line, Nuance Salma Hayek, which contains 100 different items (cosmetics, moisturizers, and cleansers) that are now available online and at a CVS drugstore near you. It’s quite a departure from the image of a spitfire actress with a huge rack even though the cover of this magazine obviously highlights Salma’s most prominent assets. Here are some excerpts from the interview, which also takes the editorial stance that Salma has basically done the vast majority of of the creation and chemical work for her line. Is she full of crap? Maybe.
She does the work: “I don’t know that many people in my position who would actually put that much time into it. It’s a lot easier to get a contract or say that you are doing the work when it’s really someone else. I don’t think my own agency-or even I-knew how stubborn I was going to be. Because I have a background in a different field, it can be hard to negotiate and make a good deal for myself. People always underestimate me. But if you stick around long enough, act out of conviction, and try to be honorable in everything you do, good things will come to you. I have seen karma work in this business.”
She uses all the Nuance Salma Hayek stuff: “We have a pimple medication that treats the spot and the discoloration on your face at the same time,” she says with obvious pride. “It’s one of the best products we have.”
On being married to billionaire Francois-Henri Pinault: “He’s the best thing that ever happened to me and my work. I was trying to figure out how to have a child on my own. I came to terms with saying, ‘[Love] might not happen, and I have to be OK with that.’ Then someone came along whom I never would have pictured or thought I would have wanted; he was completely out of my box. Even though I was not looking, I was present and I was open. I am the luckiest person I know.”
She’s kind of over acting: “What once was an expression of who I was – acting – also became my hiding place. But now I don’t depend on it so much for my happiness or my identity. And since it’s not my priority, I am doing the best work I?ve ever done.”

While I can admire Salma’s entreprenurial drive in creating this line of beauty products, I have to wonder where she came up with the start-up capital for such a product. Did she put up the money herself or pound the pavement looking for investors? Or was it a case of her billionaire husband financing the entire schbang? Who knows. I’ll admit to a bit of jealousy here because Salma will never have to worry about money for the rest of her life, but it seems awfully convenient for Salma to say that merely perservering and acting with conviction will make somebody rich because of the “karma” involved. Salma does acknowledge that she is “the luckiest person” she knows, but still, she is so out of touch with reality. It’s almost like she’s becoming the Latina Goop.

Salma Hayek covers the new issue of Lucky Magazine? I think it?s the May issue. The cover shoot is meh – you can see some shots here, as well as the full cover interview. Am I the only one around here who used to love Salma back in the day, but as the years go on, I find her more and more insufferable? I get the feeling that many of you have always disliked her. But for me? it?s rough because I used to consider her one of my favorite women. Not so much anymore. Anyway, Salma is trying to relate to all of us in the cheap seats, I?m assuming. Being married to a billionaire makes you forget how to relate to people, I think. Here are some highlights:
She used to be depressed about her pimples: ?My skin?! When I was 25 and I left being a soap opera star in Mexico to go try to be a movie star in Hollywood and all of Mexico was laughing at me? And I could barely get work as an extra? You want to talk about bad skin? I had acne. And this acne was so bad, it sent me into a severe, severe depression. Like I couldn?t leave the house. I?d wake up in the morning and lie there and touch my face before I got up, just to prepare myself to look in the mirror!?
She used to overeat too: “The next stage with that sort of depression is food – too little or too much. Guess what I did? I was fat and broken out. I couldn’t leave the house and I couldn’t pay the rent!”
A director friend saved her: ?Alfonso Cuarn?amazing director?he came to the house. He did not play it down, he did not try to say, Oh you look fine. He said you can?t do this to yourself and taught me to meditate, relax. I got myself back together!?
She?s never Botoxed: ?Botox, trust me I?ve been tempted?but I resist! Think about what happens to your muscles?and your skin?if you?re sick and don?t move for a few days. It all atrophies! Plus, if you freeze a muscle in your face, other muscles have to compensate! And once you stop, what does that look like??
Living in Paris: ?It?s nuts, how good the people look, too,? she continues. ?Nobody?s overweight, everybody?s well dressed, no tennis shoes?somehow, even though they walk all over the place, everyone manages to wear real shoes, nice shoes.?
Parisian hair: She points at her chic, low ponytail. ?This is very Parisian. My husband, it?s funny, but he hates it when I have this Parisian hair! He loves my crazy-maniac-madwoman just-got-out-of-the-shower hair. He is like the lawyer for my thick, wild, natural hair. He?s like, ?Why make it suffer?? But you know for 45 years I?ve got this big hair, and these big boobs, and I?m this tiny person and sometimes?you just want to be … smaller.? She flips the ponytail, flashes her kohl-lined lashes. ?He?s probably right?my mom always said, ?You think you know better than God???
Skincare: She went on Accutane. ?I didn?t want to, but it cured it. Since then my skin?s forever sensitive and dry.? Before this episode, her skin had always been pretty good, she says: She?d spent her childhood practically swimming in face creams and potions, all concocted by her grandmother, who gave them to family members and friends. ?She?d take me with her to the pharmacy to get her materials. She knew what she was doing?she died at 96, with no wrinkles!?
Fatty foods = no wrinkles? ?You know Latin people? African-American people? How our skin ages more slowly? Even though we?re dramatic, we move our faces, we eat higher-fat foods, we?re the ones with fewer wrinkles?it makes you wonder.?
Diet and exercise: ?I like to eat,? she sighs. ?I?m always on the edge of how much can I eat without looking too?you know. If I eat something salty, it makes me want something sweet. I eat something sweet, then I want salty. And exercise is not my thing, though I do it. ?Not like Demi [Moore, her close friend]. She?s so disciplined, I wish I could be like that.? She looks at me; Moore has been reported to be in rehab. ?You watch,? she says. ?Demi will be back. She?s an inspiration to all women.?
Looking good for her billionaire husband: ?If you?re in love with someone, you always want to conquer them anew. Even if we don?t go out, I like to look nice for him. He inspires me. There are men who don?t notice what you?re wearing, and that?s cool. But when you make an effort, Franois appreciates it so much.?

I?m still not sure what she was promoting. Maybe her skincare line, Nuance? Probably. She?s also got a part in Oliver Stone?s Savages, which comes out later this year. Or maybe she was just promoting SALMA! Honestly, she doesn?t come across as insufferable in this piece, and she kind of reminded me of Sofia Vergara a little bit, with the homespun wisdom of Latin grandmothers and all. As for Salma?s theory about African-American and Latinos? aging and whether there?s a correlation with eating fatty foods? er? what? Is that really a theory? That the more fatty foods you eat, the better you?ll age?

Disneyland Paris just celebrated it's 20th birthday and Salma Hayek was on hand to help Mickey throw the party.
The 45-year-old Mexican actress looked adorable in a hat and scarf at the event while showing off her beautiful fresh face, making it hard to believe she suffered bad acne, depression and weight issues in her 20's.
Hayek told the May issue of Lucky magazine that her beauty came as a struggle when she was 25, explaining, "You want to talk about bad skin? I had acne and this acne was so bad it sent me into severe, severe depression. Like I couldn't leave the house. The next stage with that sort of depression is food - too little or too much. Guess what I did?"
The pressure of becoming successful took a toll on more than her health, as Salma revealed, "I was fat and broken out. I couldn't leave the house and I couldn't pay the rent!"
After learning how "to meditate and relax" and getting a little help from facial treatments, the acne went away and, as Hayek says, "Since then my skin's forever sensitive and dry."
When asked about taking any drastic measures to fight off aging, the brunette beauty assured, "Botox - trust me, I've been tempted, but I resist!"

She?s certainly no stranger to the annual Academy Awards, and Salma Hayek attended the 2012 Vanity Fair Oscar Party in West Hollywood, CA on Sunday (February 26).
The ?Puss in Boots? beauty looked stunning in an off-the-shoulder red belted gown as she made her way inside the Sunset Tower to enjoy the evening?s offerings.
On Friday night, Ms Hayek along with friends Penelope Cruz, Cameron Diaz, Sandra Bullock and Sofia Vergara, hit up a Pre-Oscars bash held by the Creative Artists Agency.
Aside from her busy Oscar weekend, Salma recently unveiled her new milk mustache campaign called ?The Breakfast Project? in which she can be seen in two bilingual TV commercials and three print ads.

As the face for its latest project, Salma Hayek was spotted at the launch of Got Milk?s ?The Breakfast Project? in Beverly Hills, CA on Friday (February 24).
The ?Frida? actress looked lovely in a black and white ensemble and was all smiles during the press junket for the new ad campaign.
According to USA Today, ?The Breakfast Project? is the biggest change in Got Milk?s campaign history as it switches their focus to breakfast.
Ms Hayek was tapped by the campaign?s front-runners to appear in two bilingual TV commercials and three print ads.

Sometimes heels can be difficult to strut in, but for Salma Hayek it was a metal grid that almost made her topple over in London on Monday night (February 20).
As the "Frida" actress was leaving the Alexander McQueen Autumn/Winter London Fashion Show, she got her black pumps stuck in the grated flooring which nearly led to a spill.
The appearance at the show was Miss Hayek's first time at a London Fashion Week catwalk event, as she took in McQueen's latest looks from a front row perch.
The Old Sorting Office Building was transformed into a forest-like scenery for the fashion show, with a carpet of brown autumn leaves covering the catwalk and a hut in the middle of the "forest" featuring blaring techno music as a supermodel in an ivory ballgown handed out drinks.

Stepping out for a swanky evening, Salma Hayek was turning heads at the Goya Cinema Awards in Madrid, Spain last night (February 19).
The ?Desperado? dame looked magnificent in a merlot-colored gown with plenty of bling as she showed up at the Palacio Municipal de Congresos prior to the big event.
In career news, Salma?s new film ?The Pirates! Band of Misfits? is scheduled to hit theaters on April 27th, 2012 and promises to be quite the fun-filled ride for audiences of all ages.
