Rolling out their latest lineup of offerings, DKNY has recruited Cara Delevingne for an exciting Fall 2015 ad campaign.
The gorgeous English poser wears menswear-inspired outwear along with a leather backpack, cozy knits and plenty of attitude.
Unfortunately this may be one of Cara?s final campaigns, as she?s decided to pursue acting rather than modeling for the future. Delevingne told The Times that the stress of constant runway and print gigs caused depression and stress-induced psoriasis outbreaks- ?People would put on gloves and not want to touch me because they thought it was, like, leprosy or something. It wasn't a good time, I was, like, fight and flight for months. Just constantly on edge. It is a mental thing as well because if you hate yourself and your body and the way you look, it just gets worse and worse. It's horrible and it's disgusting. [We're talking about] young girls. You start when you are really young and you do, you get subjected to ?not great stuff.?

I?m sort of at a loss as to how to approach Cara Delevingne these days. Some people really love her. Some people think she?s genuinely interesting. I think she?s a spoiled, unprofessional brat. But I?ll try to give her a break, maybe. Even though Cara?s big ?make me a movie star!? attempt failed in Paper Towns, Cara is still trying to make this movie star thing happen. Cara gave an interview to The Times where she says outright that she?s not going to be a model anymore because ?sexism,? and now she?s going to be an actress because ?sexism.? Some highlights:

As we covered yesterday, Cara Delevingne gave a bad interview to Good Day Sacramento. And yes, I still maintain that Cara was the one giving a ?bad interview.? If this was a one-off and she had a history of exemplary, professional behavior, I might have cut her more slack. But Cara has a history (which I detailed in yesterday?s post). I?ll also admit that the Good Day Sacramento anchors were way too peppy and they were asking some dumb questions. And? They were doing their jobs ? Cara was not.
In the comments yesterday, some argued that Americans just don?t ?get? British humor. Yeah? that?s crap. But Cara tried that argument too:

By now you probably know that I think Cara Delevingne is pretty overrated. I think most of her fame and success comes from nepotism and connections (her parents are rich, well-connected aristocrats), plus a healthy dose of social media savvy and being the public trainwreck that people love to watch. I also believe that Cara should have gotten a bigger backlash last year when she completely mishandled being (justly) called out by Vogue for being an unprofessional mess who slept through the interview because she was partying too hard the night before.
So, that?s my general impression of her: poor little rich girl with a martyr complex. Party girl who only talks about solidarity and women-supporting-women when she?s being called out for unprofessional behavior. But here?s something new: is Cara also sort of a brat? That?s my question after watching what could have been a simple, breezy morning show appearance turn into an awkward disaster. To be fair, it wasn?t just Cara ? or ?Carla? as they called her ? turning this interview into messy morning show amazingness. But Cara seemed? off. Here?s the clip from Good Day Sacramento:
Full disclosure: I?m actually a morning person, in that I can be fully functional, coherent and truly awake very quickly after I get up. But I could never be ?perky? like morning show anchors. Not without heavy medication or a buttload of caffeine. So, just on that alone, I think there was always going to be some awkwardness between peppy, perky Californian morning anchors and a jet-lagged, hard-partying, hungover British girl. Maybe it was being called ?Carla? or maybe she was just tired of doing press, but it did feel like Cara had a chip on her shoulder. It felt like she stifled (just barely) several eyerolls as she deigned to answer their questions. So? unprofessional brat or completely reasonable given the circumstances?

Around April or May of this year, Cara Delevingne started going public with her girlfriend, St. Vincent (also known as Annie Clark). I only found out recently that there?s some scandal there ? St. Vincent had been dating Carrie Brownstein, and St. Vincent might have dumped Carrie for Cara. Then Carrie might have started hooking up with Taylor Schilling. It would have been a no-brainer to declare that Cara and St. Vincent probably weren?t going to be in it for the long haul ? Cara is only 22 years old and all of her relationships have been messy and all-over-the-place. So would it surprise you to learn that after Cara?s public pledges of love for St. Vincent, they?re totally over?
Cara Delevingne has split with her girlfriend, singer St. Vincent, says a source. We?re told the breakup was recent, with the couple appearing on St. Vincent?s Instagram two weeks ago.
Delevingne told Vogue?s July issue, ?Being in love with my girlfriend is a big part of why I?m feeling so happy with who I am these days.?
Her rep didn?t comment. St. Vincent?s rep said they didn?t know about a split. But Cara looked happy Saturday at a WSJ Magazine and Forevermark screening of her film ?Paper Towns.?

If the evidence for a breakup is simply that Cara has been flying solo for weeks as she promotes Paper Towns, well? that?s not solid evidence. If the evidence for a breakup is that Cara is 22 and messy, that?s pretty solid. As for Cara?s Instagram? I don?t see any photos of St. Vincent on there this morning. Did Cara delete those photos post-breakup? That’s the new thing with the kidz – to delete their exes from all of their social media.

She?s a woman of many talents and Cara Delevingne showed off yet another impressive skill during her visit to ?The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon? on Thursday night (July 16).
The ?Paper Towns? actress looked gorgeous as she chatted with the always-charming Fallon about her crazy career and slew of upcoming films.
And of course, Cara gave Jimmy and his Rockefeller Center audience a demonstration of her beatboxing prowess, which seemed to even impress The Roots house band. Check the clip!

Cara Delevingne sat down for an interview with the NYT to promote her big starring role (?) in Paper Towns, which comes out next week in most countries. It feels like it should have already come out, right? That?s mostly because Cara has been doing non-stop promotion for Paper Towns for the past two months. In this NYT piece, she hits on some of the same issues she discussed during her Vogue cover profile ? her sexuality (and how it?s not a phase), her crazy partying, her upper-crust upbringing and how much she disliked being a model. Highlights:
She did shots with Whitney Houston? ?There was a point in my life where I literally lived through a camera? Watching Lars Ulrich play a Metallica show from behind the drum kit! Or doing tequila shots with Whitney Houston just before she died! When I get older, I?m going to go through that footage and have the best time, because I probably won?t remember much of it.?
She hates therapy: ?I went through so much therapy as a kid, and I hated it, and because you get so used to saying the same thing over and over again, it just becomes a story??
She always wanted to act & make music: ?Modeling was never a dream of mine. But when I start something, I want to prove people wrong. I thought: I?m going to smash this as hard as I can.?
On her modeling career: ?It was killing my soul.? She developed acute psoriasis, which she attributed to stress and exhaustion. ?It?s the lemon effect. I?ll pick you up, squeeze everything I can out of you and throw you away for the next one.?
The 2013 incident where she dropped a bag of white powder: ?I was a kid, you know? I still am in so many ways, and I?m so lucky, but I think everyone needs a bit of a slap in the face, and a reminder that no one is invincible. That?s what it was for me. Especially with young people seeing the film, I want to be clear: I?m so far away from drugs that I couldn?t possibly be further way, and whatever happened in the past is in the past, it just doesn?t exist anymore.?
She turned down stupid parts: ?The part of a Swedish model or an English one, where I die all the time, or stupid girls in, like, ?American Pie 27? ? It felt crazy to turn down roles because I thought I?d do anything to be an actress, but I realized my dignity?s more important than that.?
Getting a part in London Fields: A technician told her, ??They?re just going for a name so they can sell the movie.? It completely tripped me up, because that?s my worst fear. If that?s the only reason, I?d rather not get the part.?
On the Vogue controversy, where her bisexuality is described as a ?phase?: ?My sexuality is not a phase. I am who I am.?
Angry Baby?s Oscar: ?People can put you in whatever box: model, whatever. But if I just keep going and actually do it well, which I hope I can, then I hope people will give me more movies ? and I?ll win an Oscar!?

Granted, I?ve never been on Delevingne Train, but it really struck me in this interview? Cara could easily be a younger version of Lindsay Lohan. Lindsay would give these sort of half-brash, half-braggy interviews when she was 20 and 21 years old too. Lindsay blamed her drug problems on ?being young? too (even though Cara?s coke baggie incident was barely two years ago!). Lindsay complained about not being taken seriously as an actress too. Lindsay told media outlets that she would win an Oscar too. And like Cara, I?m sure Lindsay did shots with Whitney Houston (Jesus, that?s an awful story!!!). It seems like Cara is sort of taking the Lindsay Lohan ?wild child? route and trying to redo the second act. Will she pull it off? Will Paper Towns turn Cara into a bona fide movie star? Ugh.

Many of the Vogue-watchers predicted this, that Cara Delevigne would get her first solo American Vogue cover for the July issue. It seems like a boring, predictable choice, although how in the world is Cara somehow ?more worthy? of a Vogue cover than someone like Taraji P. Henson? Cara is transitioning from modeling to acting, and she?s already promoting the hell out of Paper Towns, the teen romance-drama in which Cara plays the most beautiful girl in the world or whatever.
The Patrick Demarchelier editorial is kind of blah ? you can see Vogue?s slideshow here. That blah-ness is not on Demarchelier either, I just don?t think Cara has much of an ?it factor? in most editorials. She looks like they just picked up some unkempt teen off the street and put her in some gowns. As for the profile? it?s actually a pretty good read. Cara is self-absorbed but she?s also wild and she?ll tell you anything. She talks about her sexuality, feeling suicidal, how much she hates modeling and growing up a rich girl. Being on the straight & narrow for Suicide Squad: ?I?m not allowed to drink. I?m not allowed good food. After turning 20 and eating McDonald?s all the time and drinking too much, it started to show on my stomach and on my face. But I?m playing a homicidal witch, so I need to look ripped.?
Her body is not a temple: ?I say my body is a roller coaster. Enjoy the ride. But can you believe that? That I have to exercise restraint after I?ve succeeded in a business where for years I had no restraint, where the whole point was excess??
The bubble of the fashion industry: ?I?m not sure I understand what fashion is anymore. I admit I was terrified to leave. I mean, the bubble gives you a kind of dysfunctional family. When you?re in it, you get it. And the second you?re out of it, you?re like, What the hell just happened??
Her background: ?I grew up in the upper class, for sure. My family was kind of about that whole parties?and?horse racing thing. I can understand it?s fun for some. I never enjoyed it.?
Her partying lifestyle: ?I had to be doing things with people at all times. The life of the party is an easy part for me to play. It rots your insides, though. Honestly, I don?t think I did anything different from other people my age. But I definitely have that addict gene. For me it comes out in an addiction to work. I?d probably have done more drugs back then if I hadn?t been working like mad.?
Her bisexuality, falling in love with St. Vincent: ?I think that being in love with my girlfriend is a big part of why I?m feeling so happy with who I am these days. And for those words to come out of my mouth is actually a miracle. It took me a long time to accept the idea, until I first fell in love with a girl at 20 and recognized that I had to accept it. But I have erotic dreams only about men.?
Whether dating women is just a phase: ?Women are what completely inspire me, and they have also been my downfall. I have only been hurt by women, my mother first of all. The thing is if I ever found a guy I could fall in love with, I?d want to marry him and have his children. And that scares me to death because I think I?m a whole bunch of crazy, and I always worry that a guy will walk away once he really, truly knows me.?

She talks a lot about the ?morass? she fell into when she was in her mid-teens. She self-harmed, she was depressed and she was put on psychotropic drugs. She also says she still goes through phases where she parties too hard and bottoms out and has to go away to get her head together. I come away from this profile thinking both ?oh, poor little rich girl? AND like she needs some better doctors. Like, I think she has some undiagnosed condition or anxiety disorder that would be easy enough to manage if she wasn?t constantly self-medicating with drugs and alcohol.
