I keep forgetting that Jennifer Lawrence is dating Some Guy. His name is Cooke Maroney, and he?s involved in the art world he works for a gallery or something. It?s a bit like Taylor Swift and Joe Alwyn everything is low-key, or maybe everything is performatively low-key. In Jennifer and Cooke?s case, I do think it?s pretty low-key, genuinely. We can go months without hearing about them, which is probably why I keep forgetting that they?re a thing. Anyway, Us Weekly has a vague update: Cooke and Jen are in it for the long haul. Or something.
For Jennifer Lawrence and Cooke Maroney, the odds are in their favor! ?Things between them are very serious,? an insider exclusively reveals in the new issue of Us Weekly, noting that the actress, 28, and the art gallerist, 33, have already moved in together. ?They definitely appear to be in it for the long haul.?
Us first reported in June that the pair had been seeing each other for a few weeks. ?Cooke plays very coy when speaking about her to his friends and colleagues,? a source told Us at the time. ?He is clearly smitten about her.?

I tend to think of this kind of relationship as ?pulling a Hathaway.? After dating and fooling around with a few problematic men (one of them a major con artist), Anne Hathaway just started going with a Normal Guy, and then they got married and had a kid and everything worked out. After several okay-to-awful relationships with famous dudes, maybe Jennifer is pulling a Hathaway. She?s tired of the drama. So she?s just going to settle down with a Normal. Maybe. I tend to think this guy is just a filler relationship before she finds another famous boyfriend, but what do I know.

Jennifer Lawrence has been doing press the past few weeks because she?s promoting her latest advertising contract: she?s the face of Dior?s Joy perfume. I have no idea what it smells like perfume peeps, does it smell good? I like a light floral or anything that smells really clean and soapy. Sometimes I go for a dark, earthy scent, especially in winter. Anyway, because Jennifer is Jennifer, very little of her promotional interviews are actually about perfume. They?re about? everything else, really. She chatted with InStyle about beauty, fashion, diets and more. You can read the full piece here. Some highlights:
She?s not convinced that she?s pretty: ?When I was growing up, my brothers used to tell me I was ugly. Butt-ugly, to be exact. One time I went into the kitchen and said, ?Mom, am I pretty?? And she said, ?It doesn?t matter.? She refused to answer! I was fortunate to go through a lot of my life without being too concerned about my appearance.?
Her style: ?Um, ?90s sex worker who?s just won her case in court. I like the style of the ?90s ? a little bit androgynous but also elegant. I love mixing it up.?
Her craziest hair moment: ?One time I went on a cruise, and I chopped it all off. And I remember that [when I got back to school] I went into the gymnasium and the whole place went quiet because I had this full-blown curly ?fro. It was the worst haircut of my life. But I still go through phases when I want to cut off all my hair.
Skin care: ?Well, I have really dry skin, so I wear night cream even during the day. I?m also really, really good about sunblock. And, in theory, I get microdermabrasion once a month, although that?s one of those things I always find myself postponing.
When she feels the most beautiful: ?Honestly, when I?m at my most disciplined. Like, when I?m really making myself go to the gym. Which is a joke, because I definitely pay more for canceled workouts than actual ones. But when I?m there and running on the treadmill, that?s when I feel most powerful.
Unrealistic beauty standards: ?I just like it when everyone?s honest. If you are 20 pounds underweight and talk about eating pizza and fried chicken all the time, that?s not going to make people feel good about themselves. If I?m going to the Oscars or having a movie premiere ? I won?t lie ? I?m probably eating differently from how I would in my regular life to fit into those dresses. And I feel comfortable saying that.
Whether she?s on social media: ?I?m on it. But I?m a voyeur: I watch, I don?t speak. There is always so much backlash. So many people are listening and paying attention, and they have so many opinions about absolutely everything. I really don?t want to welcome that unless it?s absolutely necessary. I don?t want to put myself out there for no reason. Unless I?m promoting something or something really burns my onions, you won?t hear from me.
What she?s learned in her 28 years: ?Everything gets better as you get older. It?s easier to cut through things, and everything gets simplified. Physically, everything gets worse. Like, why does my neck hurt? Why are my knees cracking? But emotionally, it gets better.

Just wait until she stands up and something on her body cracks and she doesn?t even know what it was. Hint: that recently happened to me. I stood up and it felt like every joint cracked simultaneously and there was a series of loud pops. As for the rest of it, she sounds fine. She?s right about a lot of things you should be honest about your diet, you should do what makes you comfortable, and ?90s style was absolutely the best. I wish ?90s style would come back with a vengeance. Also: ??Mom, am I pretty?? And she said, ?It doesn?t matter.?? SAVAGE.

We learned back in June that Jennifer Lawrence had gotten a new boyfriend. His name is Cooke Maroney, which still sounds like a fake name to me, but whatever, I?m not dating him. Cooke is some kind of art-gallery director or something, which seems shady to me, but again, he?s not my boyfriend. I just feel like when you describe someone as ?being involved in the art world,? it could literally mean anything from ?he?s a man of means who spends his time collecting art? to ?he?s a drug dealer.?
Anyway, J-Law and Cooke have been relatively low-key since they became a couple. Every few weeks, photos will pop up of them walking together in New York, but the photos are always suspiciously exclusive to one agency (almost like they were set up). These photos, in this post, are not exclusive to one agency. J-Law and Cooke are in Paris together, and they were seen on Thursday, walking along the Place Vendome. I can?t say I care for Jennifer?s slipdress, but it?s not like she?s wearing this to a premiere. I suspect that this is her ?date? look, and that this trip to Paris was not a work gig but a simple romantic getaway. What do I know, though? She probably did have some work to do in Paris, you never know. She?s still the face of Dior, so maybe she was there to shoot some new print ads or something and she decided to bring her boyfriend.
Cooke is just sort of? a non-event, right? He?s not bad-looking, but he just seems incredibly average. He?s giving Adam Levine vibes, only taller.

I honestly didn?t know what to make of the news that Jennifer Lawrence has been quietly dating a ?normal? guy for several weeks. I mean, Page Six broke the news so I thought maybe they got some good tip from someone in the art world, perhaps, especially considering that Cooke Maroney is part of that art world. But now I?m thinking that Jennifer Lawrence is such a big star that she?s actually doing, like, boyfriend rollouts. J-Law and Cooke got pap?d this week, just after the news came out about their early-days romance:

Just know that we?re probably going to have one million Jennifer Lawrence stories this week. Few people can do promotional tour properly at this point, and by that I mean? few people can generate new headlines every day, multiple times a day, with new photos, for like three weeks straight during a promotional tour. J-Law can. It?s a rare gift. These are photos of Jennifer at last night?s Red Sparrow premiere in New York. She wore Dior, obviously. And I dislike it. I dislike the dress, and I especially dislike the styling. Since she plays a ballerina-turned-spy/honey-trap, I think Jen was aiming for a ballerina-inspired look. But she just looks uncomfortable, and oddly like she?s sucking in her cheeks and she?s pissed off about it.
Meanwhile, there are a million new quotes and interviews with Jennifer. Here are some quotes from her interview with Marc Maron?s WTF podcast:
When she fell for Darren Aronofsky. “He flew in, pitched me, left. The whole thing was probably an hour and a half, and then I was like, he’s hot. I remember I was holding my dog and I shut the door and when the door shut I went, ?Pippi that’s called sexual tension.’ He played hard to get for like nine months, maybe longer, which just killed me.”
How long her thing with Aronofsky lasted: “I mean, if we count everything, like two years. I had been saying two years for so long and he was like, ?It’s been like, six months!’ I think two years. I mean, I was in love with him for like, two years?. I still love him very much.”
She?s still friendly with her exes: “I’m friends with all my exes, actually. For the most part, yeah. I have a theory. I think it’s because I’m blunt. I don’t think that you can have any sort of bad relationship with anybody if you’re just blunt. Everybody always knows how you feel at all times and there’s no lying, it’s just honesty. She never had an affair with Chris Pratt: “I never had an affair with Chris Pratt on Passengers. That’s a good one? I mean, they got a divorce like two years later and everybody was like, [shouting] ‘Jennifer Lawrence!’ And I was like, ‘What the…what, I’m in Montreal two years later.’”

I think of all Jennifer?s boyfriends/exes, Hoult was the best across the board. He was the best boyfriend for her and the best ex, as in they?re still friendly and they still like each other a lot. And I don?t think she?s attracted to good people? I actually think she?s got a bad picker when it comes to men across the board, not just for dating, but for coworkers and what she?ll put up with from directors and such.

I?ve read a lot of Jennifer Lawrence?s interviews over the years, and let me tell you something: she?s not dumb. Not at all. She?s very sharp, very witty and self-aware. But she is also uneducated, which explains some of her idiosyncrasies, you know? She wasn?t forged in a Disney lab. She didn?t grow up in a studio-education system, nor did she seem to even concern herself with having any kind of fallback. I don?t even think she was ever really a ?struggling actress? – she worked consistently even before she really broke out at a young age. But during that entire time, she had a secret: she didn?t even finish middle school, and she?s never even bothered to her her GED. Some quotes from her 60 Minutes interview:
Middle-school dropout: “I dropped out of middle school. I don’t technically have a GED or a diploma. I am self-educated.?
Whether she regrets dropping out of school: “No. I really don’t. I wanted to forge my own path. I found what I wanted to do, and I didn’t want anything getting in the way of it. Even friends, for many years, were not as important to me as my career. I mean, from the age of 14.”
School wasn?t easy for her: “I struggled through school. I never felt very smart. And when I’m reading the script and I feel like I know exactly what it would look like if somebody felt that way, that was the whole part of my brain that I didn’t even know existed?something that I could be confident in and I didn’t want to let it go. It was just an overwhelming feeling of ‘I get this. This is what I was meant to do.? And to get people to try to understand that, when you’re 14 years old wanting to drop out of school and do this, and your parents are just like ?You’re out of your mind.’”

I don?t want to put words in her mouth or make some kind of dumb armchair-diagnosis, but I suspect that she didn?t feel ?dumb? as much as she felt bored in school. She?s quick and, I suspect, borderline ADHD. The kind of structured, traditional school environment probably felt suffocating to her but she didn?t know how to verbalize that feeling.
Now, all that being said, stay in school, kids! Yes, Jennifer Lawrence doesn?t even have a GED and she?s an Oscar-winning actress making tens of millions of dollars a year, but for every J-Law story, there are like 20,000 stories of school dropouts who can?t even get a job at McDonald?s.

Here are some photos of Jennifer Lawrence at the London premiere of Red Sparrow. The first premiere was actually last week in DC, and I?ll have those photos in another post. J-Law wore Dior, like she almost always does, to this London premiere. I mean? yeah, she has a great figure, and yeah, this is one of the better Dior gowns I?ve seen on her. But I feel like the Ghost of Sagging Future when I whisper to these young women: ?wear a bra, sweetheart, or you?ll regret it later.? But for now, she and her girls look great.
As for Red Sparrow? to all of the ladies who saw Atomic Blonde: doesn?t Red Sparrow feel sort of like Jennifer Lawrence?s Atomic Blonde? It?s an action-spy thriller with a sex-positive female lead doing cool stunts and acting badass. And considering I loved Atomic Blonde (great movie with terrible dialogue), I totally think Red Sparrow looks awesome. Here?s one of the latest trailers:
Can you guess what my biggest issue is? THE BANGS. But you know what? The bangs are actually helping me forget that I?m watching Jennifer Lawrence. In any case, the film comes out in March (a lot sooner than I realized), and so another J-Law promotional tour is upon us, before I really prepared myself. Let?s get this party started with some quotes she gave to Entertainment Tonight exclusively:
Doing a Russian accent: “I’ve never done a foreign accent before It was daunting and scary but I hope we pulled it off.” American actors playing Russian characters have notoriously had a hard time pulling off realistic Russian accents over the years, and while Lawrence said she feels good about her efforts, she said she wanted to refrain from bragging until the movie is released. “I don’t want to talk about the accent until the movie comes out because I don’t want to say, ‘I did this and I did that, and it was really quite easy for me,’ and then just get annihilated.?
She?s playing a ballerina-turned-spy: “The idea of me being a ballerina was, before four months of training, laughable. Now I can move my arms a little bit.” Lawrence said that she started by learning the basics, and then she went on to learn the dance she would need to perform for the film. “I couldn’t get on pointe or anything like that, but it was more helpful for just kind of learning the mental and physical discipline that goes [into ballet],” she said. “It was more of a character study.”
She did a fully-nude scene in the film: “There’s one particular scene in the movie where your nightmare comes true from grade school, where you’re standing naked in front of a classroom full of people. So that became a reality, but it actually wasn’t that bad,” she recalled. The actress said she was very nervous the night before they shot the scene, but when she showed up on set, “Everybody made me feel so comfortable that I probably at a certain point started making everybody else uncomfortable. Because I’d be like, ‘I don’t want the robe. I’m hot. I’m eating.’ Everybody’s like, ‘She needs to cover up.??

I like to think I have a good ?ear? for accents, but I think my ear is pretty particular: I can tell when a foreign actor is doing a terrible American accent, and I can tell when a non-British actor is doing a terrible British accent, and then I could tell that whatever the hell accent JK Simmons was doing in The Snowman was awful (seriously, that film was a bad-accent buffet). My point is that I probably don?t have a good ear for Russian accents, because what little we hear of J-Law in the trailer, she sounds like she?s doing a decent enough Russian accent. She?s not veering off into camp, which seems easy to do with Russian accents (see also: most 007 villains). As for what she says about ballet-training? I read that entire quote and thought of how Natalie Portman tried to convince people that she became a prima ballerina-level talent in just five months and she did almost all of her own ballet work in Black Swan, only we found out later that her head had been superimposed on a stunt ballerina?s body. I think J-Law wants us to know that she?s not going to try to pull that sh-t.

We learned, just before Thanksgiving, that Jennifer Lawrence and Darren Aronofsky had split. Back then – just one month ago! – we still thought J-Law might fart her way to several big Best Actress nominations at the major awards shows. Now we know that the Golden Globes and SAGs completely ignored ?mother!? for (frankly) better films. Maybe the breakup was a sign that D-Aron and J-Law didn?t really give a sh-t about their Oscar campaigns. Maybe the bad reviews of the film were enough to end their love story. Who knows? Well, as it turns out, Jen and Darren are maybe back together. They were spotted out together in New York this week.
Spotted: Jennifer Lawrence and ex Darren Aronofsky, just two months after their breakup. E! News learned last month that the 27-year-old Oscar-winning actress and 48-year-old Oscar-nominated director, who directed her in his recent movie mother!, broke up in October after a year of dating. A source said at the time, “It was amicable and they are still friends.” On Wednesday, Lawrence and Aronofsky were photographed walking into a residence in New York City, with her carrying her small dog Pippi. Neither star has commented.
“They are not officially back together but are spending time together again,” a source told E! News exclusively on Thursday. “They never stopped speaking after they broke up. They care about each other. They are just seeing what happens.”

I have a lot of feelings about this and none of those feelings are good. I?m a big fan of the clean breakup, the I-never-want-to-see-you-again-and-I-mean-it breakup. Jennifer found a way to get out of a complicated romantic entanglement and she should have just turned her back and walked away. Clean. But that?s not how many people do it, so now they?re dealing with each other again. It?s not going to get any better, you know? He?s still the douche who kept the camera rolling when she was injured. He?s still much too old for her, not just in years but in maturity. This was always a mess. But whatever, they?re both adults.
Also: I have a theory about the under 30 celebrities and how few quality men there are in that bunch. It feels like J-Law might have gone back to D-Aron because she didn?t have many good-quality boyfriend options.

One of the ?snubs? of the Golden Globes nominations was none other than America?s Farty Sweetheart, Jennifer Lawrence. I respected J-Law?s game, quite honestly, even if I was convinced that ?mother!? was trash. Jen knows that people love her and that awards shows love to invite her to everything, and she played that game well, openly campaigning for some Best Actress nominations. In another year with a less crowded Best Actress field, I would say that Jennifer might have pulled it off. But there are a lot of worthy women this year, so Jennifer didn?t make the cut at the Golden Globes or the SAGs. I would imagine she will not make the cut for the Oscars, but who knows, really? Hilariously, E! News is already trying to prepare the world for another awards season without J-Law.
Meanwhile, J-Law still gets all of the scripts. She?s just signed on to a new movie that sounds very? Oscar-baity. And strange.
Luca Guadagnino, currently drumming up Oscar buzz for the ravishing ?Call Me by Your Name,? will direct Jennifer Lawrence in ?Burial Rites,? Variety has learned. Lawrence will produce, as well as star in the true-crime drama. TriStar Pictures, a division of Sony Pictures, has worldwide rights to the picture.
The film draws on Hannah Kent?s 2013 novel of the same name, and centers on Agnes Magnusdottir (Lawrence), the last woman to be publicly executed in Iceland in 1830. Agnes was sentenced to death for killing two men and setting fire to their home. The story takes place as Agnes awaits confirmation of her death sentence by the high court, a period of time that finds her reluctantly forging emotional and romantic bonds, while reflecting on her supposed crimes.
In addition to ?Call Me by Your Name,? a romantic drama that?s received critical raves and just picked up three Golden Globe nominations, Guadagnino directed ?A Bigger Splash? and ?I Am Love.? His upcoming projects include a remake of the horror classic ?Suspiria? and ?Rio,? a thriller with Benedict Cumberbatch and Jake Gyllenhaal.

Set in Iceland in 1830? While that?s not traditional Oscar-bait, it sounds intriguing and weird. My biggest question is? will Jen attempt an accent? I think she?s really talented, but I?m not sure if I could watch a whole movie with Jen trying to do an Icelandic accent.
