Tyra Banks has been tapped to start her own fashion magazine. But instead of following in her idol Oprah’s footsteps with a print publication, Banks is going digital.Banks’ online style magazine, Tyra: Beauty Inside & Out, will feature beauty, health, relationship and fashion articles, mainly written by an in-house staff of six. The magazine, which Banks calls a “magaline” will also feature interactive audio posts, and behind-the-scenes footage from The Tyra Show and America’s Next Top Model.Banks was initially offered a print magazine, but reportedly turned it down due to the slump in the print media industry. The online mag is more so O, The Oprah Magazine, with a younger audience in mind, like her talk show enthusiasts.“I’m really interested in helping women take control of their futures, take control of their destiny,” Banks says. “One of my lines in my manifesto on the website is to be the CEO of your own life, be in control of your own life.”

She’s quite savvy when it comes to her career and earlier today (August 19), Tyra Banks was hard at work on the set of her show in Chelsea, New York.
The 35-year-old model taped an outdoor segment for “The Tyra Banks Show” and gave some lucky members of the audience a chance to win some cash by playing a game with her.
And, just recently, Ms Banks announced via her Twitter page that she will show the world her real hair on the premiere of her show coming up on September 8th.
She explained that there will be “no fake hair at all! Will be the hair coming out of my scalp! 4 all 2 C! No ponytails, no ballet bun hair. hair will be out and free!”

Tyra Banks, needing a new hook to get people to keep tuning in to her show, decided that she?s going to show her real hair. And that?s supposed to get you to watch. I?m not sure what Tyra?s real hair is supposed to look like, but unless it?s something shocking, that, in and of itself, isn?t enough to get me to drag out the old rabbit ears and watch her show.
Tyra Banks is saying “So long!” to her lovely lengthy locks temporarily. The supermodel-turned-television mogul will ditch her bouncy mane for the season premiere of “The Tyra Banks Show,” a rep for the talk show confirmed to Access Hollywood.
Tyra will reveal to viewers her “natural hair” on the program’s Season 5 premiere, which is set to air September 8 on The CW.
“This season on ‘The Tyra Show’ we’re taking it to the next level and getting more real than ever before by encouraging women everywhere to own and rock what they’ve got and be proud,” Tyra said in a statement. “For the Season 5 premiere, I will be doing just that - no fake hair, I’m rocking my REAL hair.”
Tyra is hoping her de-weavement will encourage others to show off what their mamas gave them.
“This will all be going down on September 8, 2009, which we’re declaring National Real Hair Day,” Tyra’s statement continued. “We welcome everyone to go natural with me!”
And the star will also be stepping out of her tailored clothes too. She recently ventured to Union Square in New York City, to tape a segment for her show while dressed in a flesh colored body suit and just a scarf on her head.

Tyra?s whole publicity stunt is over getting women to be proud of their real hair. Which, I?m a fan of. First off, as I?d previously admitted, I had a disastrous run-in with Sun In last summer, and have about of the hair I used to, at most. So I?d really appreciate it if all those fakers out there quit walking around with what looks to be insanely thick hair, but is in fact just some sort of weave or extension. They make me seethe with envy, and for some reason I am totally incapable of telling if women?s hair is real or not unless it?s super obvious. So I?ll just sit on the train glaring at some random girl because she?s got hair for days. So for the first time ever, I?m behind something Tyra Banks is doing, because it will help my own vapid insecurities.
But seriously, if Tyra indeed revealing her natural hair for the show, she sure isn?t doing it until the day of filming. Because in these pictures it appears that she?s wearing a wig with a headscarf over it. And also, note how all the other women are baring their bodies in flesh-tone underwear and bras (shudder)? Tyra?s covered from head-to-toe. I?m just saying, stop telling everyone else to be comfortable with their bodies when you?re not with yours. And I?m trying to give her the benefit of the doubt with the hair and assume she really will be without any fake hair when her show premieres. But that sure as hell wasn?t the case in Union Square yesterday.

Always in high demand, Brad Pitt has opted to take on a leading role in Guy Ritchie’s latest movie, “Sherlock Holmes”.
According to Us magazine reports, the “Fight Club” stud will be making his way to London to begin filming his character, Holmes’ nemesis Moriarty, tomorrow (August 18).
The Us report tells: “He (Pitt) is expected to shoot all over the city, including the Royal Victoria Dock, Pontoon Docks, Pinewood and Chatham Docks in Kent.”
“This is all such mad rush now, having such little time to get everything done,” a source tells of the film, which has been pushed back to a 2010 release date. “There’s just a week to get this done and everyone is just praying the weather stays clear and time doesn’t run out too soon.”

We’re used to seeing her on the talk show scene, or judging “America’s Next Top Model” but today (August 6) Tyra Banks was spotted on the “Gossip Girl” set.
The stunning supermodel looked lovely as she exited her trailer and strolled over to the Midtown Manhattan set, sporting a black bathrobe.
Meanwhile, the rest of the cast was spotted hanging out and filming scenes earlier today, prepping for the upcoming season.
New episodes of the CW hit show are scheduled to begin Monday September 14th at 9pm EST so get ready for plenty of drama-filled action.

Tyra Banks, right, said casting for the CW reality series “America’s Next Top Model” would resume after an incident Saturday in which a stampede broke out at an audition for the show in New York, The Associated Press reported. In a statement, Ms. Banks, the host and an executive producer of the show, said, “We are doing everything we can to make sure that all the girls who weren’t seen get an opportunity to audition.” On Saturday an open casting call for the show at the Park Central Hotel in Midtown Manhattan erupted in mayhem as thousands of aspiring contestants pushed into the crowd, a situation made worse when someone screamed that a smoking overheated car was on fire and about to explode. Three people were arrested, and six were treated for minor injuries. No rescheduled casting dates were announced.

My mother is obsessed with America?s Next Top Model. I watched the first few seasons, but my intense dislike of Tyra Banks made me stop watching. Still, I recognize that if the power of Ty-Ty can take down someone like my mom, it?s pretty intense stuff.
ANTM is currently auditioning girls for the thirteenth cycle. They held the auditions in a New York hotel on Saturday, and a friggin? riot broke out. It is unknown what caused the riot (a sketchy weave?), but six people were injured and three were arrested. Seriously? For ANTM? What do the wannabe models have to riot about? CNN has more info:
Three people were arrested Saturday after chaos broke out at an “America’s Next Top Model” audition at a New York hotel, police said.
Six people were injured, and two of them sought treatment at a hospital, authorities said.
Police said they didn’t know what provoked the bedlam, which resulted in three people being charged with disorderly conduct and inciting a riot in connection to the incident at the Park Central New York hotel in Manhattan.
The audition was shut down after the incident, authorities said.
Calls to Park Central management were not immediately returned on Saturday.
The “Top Model” competition, hosted and produced by supermodel Tyra Banks and aired by the CW network, is in its 12th cycle.

The audition was shut down after the riot. That?s got to suck for all of those girls who were willing to drop out of college and rearrange their lives all to be told off by Tyra in the second episode.
I would love to know what started the riot. Is it bad that my first thoughts went to the kind of silly, asinine catfights that are catnip to ANTM viewers? That would be depressing, the thought of a New York riot breaking out over a Cup o? Soup or extensions.
Note by Celebitchy: The “riot” may have been over a suspected car bomb when a smoking car pulled up near the crowd, causing panic. Here’s a video of the stampede that resulted. It looks incredibly dangerous and hopefully no one was seriously injured. The Telegraph has more on this story.

Tyra Banks is back on the prowl promoting her America’s Next top Model show, which really should be called something like ‘America’s next part-time model who goes back to her normal job is six months’ and feature that Flight of the Conchords song. You know the one, about being the ‘most beautiful girl in the room, depending on the room.’
The show is yet to produce a real, strong international success story in modeling, so in order to create some kind of interest (we are up to season 12) Tyra is looking for short chicks for season 13.
Banks is ready to push industry boundaries on the show’s next season, due in September.
Women on the comparatively short side will be the focus: Nobody over 5-foot-7 (1.7 metres) need apply for the shot at a modelling contract.
Supermodels usually tower over mere mortals, with only a handful of less-than-statuesque beauties like Kate Moss making the cut.
Banks already has encountered scepticism from industry insiders.
“A couple of designer friends said, ‘Look, girl, you better make sure that winner is fierce if it’s not going to be a joke. You’ve got to make sure her face and body photographs like a tall model. She has to be really amazing.’

So basically Tyra is looking for a non-conformist model, that is as thin as a model, photographs like a model and won’t be allowed within spitting distance of a catwalk. I’m sure Tyra thinks that she’s pushing boundaries here, but a lot of models (particularly lingerie models) are shorter and heavier than your average catwalk model. She basically conforming to the same ideal but trying to sell it as a big departure - although I think even under 5ft is small for a model.
Season 12 begins March 4, and will also feature some less-than-likely supermodels.
Banks said she created America’s Next Top Model, back with a two-hour episode airing in the US on tonight, to counter stereotypes of who and what is considered beautiful.
The show has included minorities and women dubbed “plus-size” by the fashion industry.
Banks, who also leads the show’s judging panel, challenged convention herself as one of the few African-American supermodels.
This time around on Top Model, one contestant bears scars on her body from an accidental scalding she suffered as a child and refuses to hide the marks. Another has startlingly large, mesmerising eyes. A third is a street preacher.
“This is a very special group of girls,” Banks said.
“I want them to connect with viewers, and not just with their looks, but with their personalities.”

Tyra says by using these kinds of people she wants to counter stereotypes of who and what is beautiful, but she is walking a fine line between good taste and freakshow. I’d just love to see Tyra, instead of this hurtful elimination show (I can’t stand any reality show where people are eliminated) just take a beautiful, size 14 5?4? model under her wing and make her a star of the catwalk. I come from a small town and buy a lot of my clothes online because they aren’t available, it would make a big difference to judging the fit if it was fitted to a normal shaped person.
