Even though Karl Lagerfeld has left us (RIP), Ghost Lagerfeld is still messing around with Chanel?s collections. Case in point: Kristen Stewart wore this Chanel Spring 2022 dress/gown to the Santa Barbara International Film Festival this weekend. Every year, stars flock to Santa Barbara ahead of the Oscars because the SBIFF hands out special awards like candy. Kristen received the American Riviera Award, so she came out (drove up?) to Santa Barbara and wore this awful Chanel on the red carpet.
First of all, who even picks this dress out? Considering Kristen has been with Chanel for years now, you would think that she gets her pick of all of the latest collections. But it always feels like she gets the stuff that Diane Kruger, Lily-Rose Depp, Vanessa Paradis, Margot Robbie and the Delevingnes don?t want, meaning the ugliest dresses and suits. All of this is making me depressed because I feel like Kristen?s Oscar dress is going to make all of the worst-dressed lists no matter what. Chanel will send her some puke-green lampshade with tassels and bows and she?ll have to wear it. Here?s some of what Kristen had to say in Santa Barbara:
The 31-year-old has been in the public eye the majority of her life, but when asked to open up on the moment she knew just how famous she truly was, Stewart said it had a little something to do with paparazzi and marijuana. ?Two days before Twilight came out, I remember I was sitting on my porch with my dog and I got papped for the first time?sitting there smoking a bowl,? she said. ?I look back on that moment with fondness.?
Same for the franchise. Of Twilight, Stewart said, ?All of its faults are its strength because we just wanted it to be the best it could be,? she told Thompson. ?We were all so young.?
[From THR]
LOL, I sort of remember those smoking-a-bowl photos, that was so long ago. I?m glad she can laugh about it now! It?s kind of crazy that she?s gotten through the awards season without having to answer any old, unnecessary questions about Robert Pattinson.
Charlize Theron was there to present K-Stew with the award. What was Charlize wearing, my God.

While Kristen Stewart has matured a lot, it occurs to me that how we view and experience K-Stew has changed a lot too. Meaning, she still says things which could be read as ?bratty? or unprofessional, but they?re not coming out of the mouth of the 21-year-old star of the franchise about sparkly vampires anymore. She?s 31, she?s lived more, she?s broken out of certain franchise molds and so we experience her sh-t differently. Kristen is promoting Spencer, a film which will likely earn several awards in the coming awards season. Kristen is clearly proud of the film and she seems to be engaging in a lowkey Oscar campaign for it too. As she confessed to the Times (via Yahoo), she?s not always so proud of the films she makes.
Speaking to The Sunday Times, Kristen said that knowing whether a film will be good from the script is a total crapshoot, meaning its risky or uncertain.
I?ve probably made five really good films, out of 45 or 50 films? Ones that I go, Wow, that person made a top-to-bottom beautiful piece of work! she continued. Asked which of her films count as the good ones, Kristen responded saying, I love Assayas?s movies, referring to director Olivier Assayas who she made Clouds of Sils Maria and Personal Shopper with.
As for the rest, she said, I?d have to look at my credit list. But they are few and far between.
Opening up about the films she regrets, Kristen added, That doesn?t mean I regret the experience [of making them]. I?ve only regretted saying yes to a couple of films and not because of the result, but because it wasn?t fun. The worst is when you?re in the middle of something and know that not only is it probably going to be a bad movie, but we?re all bracing until the end.
Responding to a question over whether shell name them, Kristen explained, No! I?m not a mean person ? I?m not going to call people out in public. But it?s like starting to date someone and going, Woah! I don?t know what we?re doing! But when you?re in the middle of a movie you can?t just break up.
[From Yahoo]
?I?ve probably made five really good films, out of 45 or 50 films?? would be read so differently if we didn?t already have so much history with K-Stew the Celebrity. And she?s right, she?s trying to explain the real phenomenon of trying to pick the right script and the right project only for it to turn out horribly. Her Assayas? movies are Personal Shopper and Clouds of Sils Maria, both of which were critically acclaimed (and she won a Cesar award for one of those performances). She?d probably put Spencer on the list, which leaves only one or two films she?s proud ofStill Alice, maybe? Panic Room? Definitely not the Twilight franchise.

Kristen Stewart has a lengthy profile in the New Yorker to promote, you guessed it, Spencer. I recently saw Spencer and I liked it, but I?m not sure I?m completely buying K-Stew as Diana, or her performance as a shoo-in for the Best Actress Oscar. Given the buzz, I think she?ll likely be Oscar-nominated. But Spencer really is more like an artsy horror film rather than a historical movie about a princess. As for this New Yorker piece, it?s very much in line with the general messaging of Kristen?s Oscar campaign, the same one which has been waged for months already: Kristen has grown into one of the best actresses of her generation, she?s paid her dues, she?s a generational talent, she?s super-cool and offbeat.
Deciding to become a child actor: ?I think when I presented [my mom] with this she was, like, ?Sh-t, I?ve told her she can do anything she wants, now I have to drive her to these fking auditions.? ? Stewart tried out for a number of commercials, but the artifice of advertising didn?t come naturally to her. ?I was so bad at auditioning for commercials?like ?Try the soda pop,? or whatever.?
She?s not really Method or maybe she is: ?Maybe I?m extremely Method, because it is me, and there?s no separation, and I believe it so fully when it?s good.?
On Catherine Hardwicke, director of Twilight: ?She was kind of the perfect person to do a young-adult novel that had these dark romantic elements. She had this childlike openness and teen-age triggers, and her whole sensibility was that the movie was going to feel horny and overconfident.?
Reading with Robert Pattinson for the first time: ?It was so clear who worked,? Stewart said, grinning. ?I was literally just, like . . .? She mimicked a swoon, dropping her golf club at the memory of Robert Pattinson, the British actor who became her co-star and, for several years, her boyfriend. Pattinson, she said, had an ?intellectual approach that was combined with ?I don?t give a fk about this, but I?m going to make this sing.? And I was, like, ?Ugh, same.? And, whatever, we were young and stupid and, not to say that we made it so much better, but that?s what it needed, and that?s what anybody playing those parts needed to feel.?
Doing press for Twilight: ?It was very nave, in the best way. Like, how fun for people to think they know you,? she said, smiling slyly. ?Did you think I was going to do ?Twilight? forever? Is that how you saw me? If that?s how you saw me, then you really set me up for success, because I can do way more than that.?
How her affair with Rupert Sanders ruined the potential for a Snow White sequel. Although the film made about four hundred million dollars, a planned sequel was reworked as a spinoff, with different actresses. ?The work, to me, genuinely was ignored in a really sort of frivolous, silly, petty way for a group of adult people who were supposed to be running studios and making films.?
Why she ended up repping Chanel: ?There?s an elevated ambition to wanting to work with them. You?re, like, ?Oh, so that?s the best one? Cool, I guess I?ll do that.? When I was younger, I just wanted to be a winner.?
On her Oscar campaign: ?I?ve never been in the running, if you want to put it like that. I do not want to seem like an ass, but it?s so embarrassing and so tiring. It is highly political. You have to go talk to people. You feel like you?re a diplomat.?
She?s developing a gay ghost-hunting reality show with a friend: She described it as ?a paranormal romp in a queer space,? with elevated aesthetics. ?Gay people love pretty things. So we are aiming for a richness.?
[From The New Yorker]
Honestly, a high-class, snobby, gay ghost-hunting show sounds kind of awesome?? I would watch that? As for Kristen finding Oscar-campaigning ?so embarrassing? because she has to go and talk to people? I love it. Yes, she?s 31 years old, but she?ll always have that sulky teenage vibe and it?s hilarious. Despite her qualms, she is waging an aggressive Oscar campaign and, as I said, it will be successful in that she will likely get a nomination. Winning it is a whole other story. I enjoy what she said about Rob too. Less pleased with what she said about banging Rupert Sanders!
Additionally, Kristen gave an interview to Variety?s Awards Circuit Podcast this week and she was asked about all of her Oscar buzz, and what she thought of the possibility that she could win an Oscar for Spencer. Her answer? ?I don?t give a sh-t. The Oscars are such a funny thing. There are so many incredible movies and performances that barely get seen. It definitely says something about where we?re at as a cumulative presence ? what we?re looking at, what we care about. I really appreciate that something that I was involved in, has ignited such a large conversation. We don?t make movies to not connect with each other.?

One of my favorite Kristen Stewart Eras was the Seasonal Girlfriend Era. I loved that! It was so cool to see a young queer woman out in the open, dating whomever she wanted and actually having some fun relationship drama. No one was hurt, no one was outed. In 2019, Kristen finally found the One: Dylan Meyer. They?ve been together ever since and Dylan seems to bring out the best of Kristen. And now they?re getting married:
Kristen Stewart is tying the knot! The Spencer actress detailed girlfriend Dylan Meyers sweet proposal on SiriusXMs The Howard Stern Show Tuesday morning.
Were marrying, were totally gonna do it, Stewart told host Howard Stern. I wanted to be proposed to, so I think I very distinctly carved out what I wanted and she nailed it. It was really cute, she did very well. Were marrying, its happening.
Discussing Meyers proposal, the Twilight star said, I wasnt specific at all. Its not a given that I would be the one. You know what I mean? With two girls, you never know like whos going to fulfill what weird fing gender role thing. We dont do that or think about it in those terms. She just grabbed that bowl and made it happen. It was fing so cute.
[From People]
Kristen had previously told Stern a while ago that she was thinking about proposing to Dylan, but I guess she didn?t get around to it, or maybe she thought Dylan should propose to her? ?I wanted to be proposed to, so I think I very distinctly carved out what I wanted and she nailed it?? Hm. They were probably already just talking about getting married in a general way and Kristen was like ?you have to be the one to propose, that?s what I want!!? They dont seem like ?big wedding? people so I would imagine it will be a simple ceremony with less than 50 friends and family.

While it?s certainly prestigious to wear Chanel couture, very rarely are these customized pieces all that great. In Kristen Stewart?s case, I think Chanel has done her dirty pretty consistently over the years, including that god-awful polyester nightie they gave her for the Venice Film Festival premiere of Spencer. Kristen has been wearing Chanel throughout her promotional tour and film festival tour for Spencer. She?s a brand ambassador and she?s getting paid, so I get that. But they really give her terrible stuff.
Last night?s LA premiere of Spencer was no different. Another Chanel look. This time, it was a half-sheer grey skirt which looks like an old-timey petticoat with stupid ruffles and a black bow. But it got worse: the ?top? of the Chanel couture ensemble was basically a stiff satin bandeau top with little shoulder straps. While I haven?t seen this from every angle, I feel like one wrong move and Kristen?s boobs will come out. Ugh. It?s just so bad and unflattering! Kristen has a nice figure, but this does nothing for her.
In case you?re wondering about the reviews? every review I?m seeing is about how her performance specifically is magnificent. Some critics take issue with the film it?s too long, it?s weird, etc but Kristen?s performance is praised in nearly every review. I think K-Stew is genuinely going to have an Oscar campaign, you guys. And she?s really going to wear terrible Chanel couture throughout. *sob*

Last Friday, Kristen Stewart walked the Venice Film Festival premiere of Spencer, the historical drama about Princess Diana in 1990. I wondered if Kristen would perhaps channel Diana in some way for her tour through the film festivals, but she really hasn?t. I mean, maybe her Chanel blazer at the photocall was Diana-esque, but she paired it with hot pants. And Diana would not have ever stepped onto a red carpet wearing this ugly negligee. This is Chanel and it?s really terrible that they sent her out in this mess. This looks like some cheap thrift-store nylon pajama set from the 1980s!! Ugh. I hate that Chanel did her dirty. I?m not saying that I expected to see Kristen in a ballgown, looking like a princess. But find a middle ground, or at the very least, find a really great pantsuit. One nice thing: her hair looks so much better in these photos. The color looks less orange-y.
As for the Venice reviews of Spencer? almost all of them are positive, and most critics completely loved Kristen in this role and they believe she absolutely nailed it, and that she?ll receive an Oscar nomination for it. The bad news is that after Season 4 of The Crown, I?m not sure the royal establishment is ready for how Spencer continues to make them look like petty, moronic clowns. The Guardian?s review (written by Xan Brooks) is the one being widely quoted:
Working off a sharp script by Steven Knight, Chilean director Pablo Larran spins the headlines and scandals into a full-blown Gothic nightmare, an opulent ice palace of a movie with shades of Rebecca at the edges and a pleasing bat-squeak of absurdity in its portrayal of the royals. Larran?s approach to the material is rich and intoxicating and altogether magnificent. I won?t call it majestic. That would do this implicitly republican film a disservice.
Jetted in from California, Kristen Stewart proves entirely compelling in the title role? Stewart effectively captures the agony of a woman so programmed and insulated that she feels she has no escape and has lost sight of who she is. The servants (well played by Sally Hawkins and Sean Harris) want to help but they are part of the very machine that she hates. They know that if Diana breaks down, the mechanism does too. What matters above all else is to keep the woman up and running.
No doubt it took an outsider to make a film that?s as unreverential as Spencer, which dares to examine the royals as if they were specimens under glass. At heart, of course, Larran and Knight?s tale is utterly preposterous. It?s a tragedy about a spoiled princess who lashes out at the servants; a thriller about a woman who has only 10 minutes to get into her dress before Christmas dinner is served. But how else do you play it? The monarchy itself is preposterous. Spencer presents the whole institution as little more than a silly ongoing game of dress-up, a farce that depends for its survival on everyone playing along and propping up the illusion, the old moth-eaten brocade. Anybody who doesn?t is ostracised, crushed or cast out in the cold, with the scarecrow and the pheasants and the shivering security men. ?Will they kill me, do you think?? says Diana, half-joking, and such is the level of fury and tension that just for a moment we believe that they might.
[From The Guardian]
I was already going to see Spencer, but reading through the reviews has convinced me that I will genuinely enjoy it. Apparently, Diana sees Anne Boleyn?s ghost too, and Anne tells to GTFO while she still can? Amazing.

Kristen Stewart was known, as an actress, ever since Panic Room, when she was just a kid. She didn?t really ?grow up before our eyes? like Lindsay Lohan, but Kristen worked throughout the 00s. Everything changed for her in 2008, when she played Bella in Twilight. She continued to work constantly throughout the 2010s, of course. But? is she really ?actress of the decade?? For real?
We at the HCA are proud to announce that Kristen Stewart will receive the Actress of the Decade Award at our ceremony on January 9, 2020. Stewart's impressive filmography includes Seberg, Personal Shopper, Clouds of Sils Maria, The Runaways, and Charlie's Angels. #KristenStewart pic.twitter.com/OYpjKDQD2d

I always feel sorry for actors who still have to go on promotional tours to support a film that?s already tanking at the box office. So it is with the ladies of Charlie?s Angels, the 2019 reboot which just bombed its opening weekend. Blame it on the bad reviews, blame it on the lack of name recognition for two-thirds of the Angels, blame it on reboot fatigue, I don?t know. Elizabeth Banks previously blamed it on the idea that men don?t want to see women in an action-comedy unless the movie has a built-in comic-book audience. She also recently slapped back at the ?reboot fatigue? idea, saying that ?You?ve had 37 Spider-Man movies and you?re not complaining!? I think women are allowed to have one or two action franchises every 17 years?I feel totally fine with that.? I mean? I have Spider-Man fatigue too. How many fking Spider-Man movies do we need? It makes me tired.
Anyway, here are some photos from last night?s London premiere. Kristen Stewart wore Thom Browne. I? love this? First of all, I love that Kristen has moved away from wearing non-stop Chanel. It didn?t suit her. The combo never fit. Two, I just like the simplicity of design, even though the label cleared added something on the hips to make it appear that Kristen is curvier. It just fits her well and it?s interesting. I still hate that hair though!
Naomi Scott in Richard Quinn this is a full-on VINYL catsuit with a dress over it. I would have liked it better if she had chosen one or the other wear a full-on vinyl catsuit and look like Emma Peel from the Avengers, OR wear a sparkly little cocktail dress. Putting the two together is? confusing.
I?m becoming a Ella Balinska stan just because I love the way she wears clothes and I love the way she photographs. I called her a swan before, but look at her! She?s totally a swan. Those long limbs, legs for days and that long neck. She?s gorgeous. Her gown is Prada.
Elizabeth Banks wore Versace. I would have loved this more for a summer or spring premiere? She looks like she?s freezing her ass off.

I like Elizabeth Banks a lot and I completely support her transition from actress to big-time producer and director. She produced the Pitch Perfect franchise and directed the second film. She also put together the reboot of Charlie?s Angels she really wanted to remake it, and she pulled it together, got Kristen Stewart on board, directed and produced it and she stars as Bosley. Charlie?s Angels came out last Friday. It bombed, only making $8.6 million in its opening weekend. Banks took it standing up:
Well, if you?re going to have a flop, make sure your name is on it at least 4x. I?m proud of #CharliesAngels and happy it?s in the world.

Here are some photos from the big LA premiere of Charlie?s Angels, wherein Kristen Stewart plays? an Angel! I still can?t get over that. Kristen maintains that she never really saw herself in Charlie?s Angels either, but Elizabeth Banks (who directed this version) had faith in her and believed that Kristen would be good in it. So here we are. Kristen was joined at the premiere by Banks, as well as the other ?angels,? Naomi Scott and Ella Balinska. Kristen wore Germanier a bright, fun, interesting little cocktail dress. I still think her hair is the worst, but Kristen has been on promotional duties for months now, and she?s been wearing some interesting stuff. This is one of my favorites from her fashion tour this fall.
Naomi Scott in Givenchy Fall 2019. While the dress is nothing special, I like the way Naomi is styled, especially with her slicked back hair and those boots. The styling turned a meh dress into something really cool.
Elizabeth Banks in David Koma Spring 2020. I like her, so I?m biased, so I think she looks good (albeit sort of dated and ?90s).
Ella Balinska in Vera Wang. She?s such an elegant swan! The dress is so princessy.
Look at Sir Patrick Stewart killing it in Dior.
