Stepping out for some promotional duties, Olivia Wilde showed up at the Sunshine Landmark Theatre in New York City with her fianc Jason Sudeikis on Sunday night (October 11).
The ?House? hottie was in the house for the premiere of her new movie ?Meadowland,? and she looked drop-dead gorgeous in a white and red silk gown with floral accents, paired with red heels and diamond earrings.
Olivia previously explained that being a mother greatly enhanced her ability to play her role in the flick- ?I think anyone who becomes a parent, their heart expands, and you empathize on a different level. That's what I think was required to tell this story as it should have been told. I don't know if I would have been able to play Sarah without being a mother. It's actually kind of a gift of motherhood: You're in touch with different levels of emotions. I think it's all very connected.?

Olivia Wilde appears in the September issue of Elle for a feature on what it’s like to turn 30. They interview several actresses, but Olivia’s interview dropped first. She overthinks the aging thing like so many of us tend to do. Livvy’s also profoundly influenced by her motherhood experience and tends to fall into magical-womb speak. Her interviews sometimes stir up a debate, and I think she says controversial things without even realizing it. Like the time she said her ex-husband made her vagina die. That wasn’t good. Here, Olivia alludes to the happiness she felt upon divorce, and how she’s evolved in the three years since. She may step in it a bit when comparing male and female development, but I don’t know because I only have one child and can’t compare daughters and sons. Let’s do this:
On her upcoming thirties: “I find that most of the women that I really look up to, both women I know personally and women I admire from afar, are in their forties. So now, my thirties seem like this great opportunity to develop the experience and wisdom that will allow me to have an even greater decade in my forties. Thirties feel like a fertile ground. The twenties are for f***ing up, that’s what you’re supposed to do, and your thirties are for using the knowledge you gained from said f***ing up to make something, to put that experience toward something useful. And then I think your forties are an opportunity to enjoy what you’ve worked for.”
Her life changed at 27: “I got a divorce, and I felt like I finally started my career. I started making movies and projects that I just really believed in. I remember a good friend saying to me, now isn’t it relaxing that you don’t have to be perfect? And I thought, that is something that happens for everyone, not just for professionals. At the end of your twenties, you realize you are inherently flawed, and that’s great, and that’s what makes you dynamic. For me, personally, it was around 27 when that kind of return to self took place, of living for myself, not living to keep up expectations.”
On sexism and male favoritism: “It evens out in other ways. We’re so much smarter. You know, it’s interesting having a son. Someone told me that it’s good when you have a son first because when you have a daughter first and then a son, you think your son’s slow. A lot of parents freak out because they’ve seen a daughter progress so quickly and they think their male child is like damaged. But boys are just naturally slow.”
More on aging: “At 30, it’s not a lack of awareness of consequences, but I think it’s another biological, evolutionary shift that allows you to break away from the tribe. And to be yourself. And to live for yourself. And I think it’s maybe designed so that you will be an elder, maybe it’s designed so you can be a parent but, you know, you don’t have to be. The point is that you then are free to make whatever decision you want. If you think about it, we’re still living by these biological patterns that were designed to allow us to survive — I mean we were all going to die by 30 anyway. Maybe that’s what it is! At 30, the reason we feel this release is because we’re supposed to be dead. This is our, like … our afterlife.”

I really have no idea what Olivia’s talking about with her “break away from the tribe” reference. She sounds pretty kumbaya and mother-earthy, which is probably her idealism talking. Livvy’s a pretty positive person (except when she’s kinda trashing her ex), and she’s delivering an inspirational missive for a fashion magazine. They wanted her to discuss the awesomeness of turning thirty, so that’s what she did. Now, let’s see what Olivia has to say when she turns 40. A whole lot can change in a decade.

Taking care of her career duties, Olivia Wilde showed up on the set of her new untitled HBO ?Rock N Roll Project? in New York City on Monday (July 20).
Joined by costar Bobby Cannavale, the ?Rush? actress looked absolutely fabulous in a lovely vintage-style red backless dress as she filmed scenes in front of a midtown hotel building.
Wilde?s forthcoming HBO series also stars Juno Temple, Ray Romano and James Jagger. Per the synopsis, ?A New York music executive in the late 1970s hustles to make a career out of the city's diverse music scene.?

Olivia Wilde is promoting a new movie, Meadowland, which premiered at Tribeca. She’s wearing a scarf-necked Dsquared dress that makes me believe (along with last week’s fringed Marchesa dress) that she needs a new stylist. Livvy recently told Deadline how she fought hard for this role (as a mother whose child goes missing). I understand why Olivia would pursue the role — playing a mother is different from the hot girl/saloon girl/cool girl roles that Olivia usually plays. This is also personal to Olivia. Ever since she gave birth to baby Otis Alexander a year ago, Olivia’s very much embraced her real-life mom role.
Olivia has always been very outspoken and witty, and I wasn’t surprised to see her extend those qualities to mom-oriented issues like breastfeeding. She has gotten a little preachy though. Livvy has talked about “the gift of motherhood” already. She said motherhood bestowed her with a “freeing selflessness.” I bristled when she talked about looking like a mother because she sounded judgy. Now Olivia talks about how motherhood has expanded her ability to empathize. People spoke to Livvy as she and Sudeikis sipped Bombay Sapphire at the Meadowland afterparty:
On relating as a parent: “I think anyone who becomes a parent, their heart expands, and you empathize on a different level, and that’s what I think was required to tell this story as it should have been told. I don’t know if I would have been able to play [my character] Sarah without being a mother. “It’s actually kind of a gift of motherhood: You’re in touch with different levels of emotions. I think it’s all very connected.”
On balancing motherhood & work: “I feel very supported and just very lucky to be working on such good things. There are people managing much more complicated lives than me.”
On celebs who distance themselves from feminism: “Is that even true? I didn’t even know! I’m so clueless. I think people have a hard time understanding exactly what it means. If people understand it simply means equality, then possibly they would have an easier time standing up for that.”

Olivia says she never could have played this role without being a mother herself. She’s now able to empathize more than during her pre-mom days, which is fine. I just wish she didn’t make sweeping statements. The key to empathy is placing oneself in another person’s shoes, regardless of whether you’ve experienced the situation at hand. Perhaps Livvy is talking about sympathy, not empathy. It’s true that motherhood brings about new fuzzy feelings, but moms aren’t any more evolved than women who don’t have children (for whatever reason).
Olivia redeems herself by talking about feminism. She’s correct, a lot of people don’t know what the word means, and they don’t bother to educate themselves. I also like how Olivia recognizes that she has a less complicated working-mom life than a woman who works a traditional full-time job or stays at home with the kids and no outside help.
Here’s some more strange Trebeca fashion from Olivia. The diagonal-stripe dress is Tory Burch, and the sequin top and trousers are Christian Dior. Is she trying to pull off Jolie stying with the Dior?

Olivia Wilde covers the April issue of Shape magazine. I have to hand it to Livvy, who gave birth to little Otis Alexander Sudeikis 11 months ago. I expected her to immediately start acting like an mommy expert, but she’s been really cool. She simply breastfed in Glamour and hasn’t been too preachy. Olivia talked about the dual importance of selflessness and loving oneself in order to be a good mother. Otherwise, she’s kept to herself.
Olivia looks fantastic on this cover, although I’m so weary of commenting on postpartum bodies. But Olivia wants to talk about it, so let’s let her take it away:
Her post-baby bod: “I am not in perfect shape. In fact, I?m softer than I?ve ever been, including that unfortunate semester in high school when I simultaneously discovered Krispy Kreme and pot. The photos of me in this magazine have been generously constructed to show my best angles and I assure you, good lighting has been warmly embraced. The truth is, I?m a mother, and I look like one.”
On the aftermath of birth: “Many people aren’t familiar with the post-birth experience — and why should they be? But let me tell you now: First of all, you haven’t seen your [vadge] in months, even though it’s all her fault you’re in this situation. Now that you can finally confirm that she is, in fact, still there, she isn’t the gal you remember/ I [also] joined the ranks of millions of new mothers when I moaned, ‘Why do I still look pregnant? Is there another one stuck in there?’”
Getting back to the gym: “It felt like leaving a karaoke bar to go take a physics exam. If I wasn?t at work, I just wanted to stay home and party with my little man — and by ‘party,’ I mean, of course, endless rounds of the ‘Itsy Bitsy Spider.’ Also, I like beer. And pizza. And these two ingredients are not found in the purely fictional book I like to call How to Look Like You Never Made a Human: A Guide to Socially Acceptable Motherhood.”
Her dream: “I believe in a world where mothers are not expected to shed any physical evidence of their child-bearing experience. In that same world I believe there is space for exercise to be as much a gift to your brain as it is to your body. I don?t want to waste my time striving for some subjective definition of perfection. I?d rather rebuild my strength while dancing my ass off … literally.”

Olivia also talks about how “breastfeeding helps, in the most intense way” to help the uterus snap back and burn some calories. That was my experience too, but as solid food came into play for the kid, it was super easy to gain the weight back. You can only eat for two for so long.
On everything else she says … I admire Olivia’s spunk, but I feel like she’s trying way too hard to be the cool girl. Not that I don’t believe she loves beer and pizza while staying in phenomenal shape. But because she’s humblebragging. There’s no shame in admitting she worked hard in the gym to achieve that body. And I do take issue with the idea that you can “look like” a mother. What does that mean?

She?s been flying under the radar as of late, and Olivia Wilde is returning to the limelight on behalf of a very special H&M collection.
The ?House? actress is gorgeous in the new Conscious Exclusive spread, sporting a series of new outfits including an organic silk tuxedo blazer and a hand-drawn print evening gown.
Of the new initiative, Wilde told WWD, ?Sustainability has got a bad reputation, especially in fashion. I think people assume the clothes will be dull, the fabrics uncomfortable and the design uninspiring. It?s like people think sustainability is a penance. This couldn?t be further from the truth, and the H&M Conscious Exclusive collection shows that sustainability is no compromise on style. I hope the collection empowers women around the world who love fashion but want to consume it in a more sustainable way. It gives them the chance to look their best, and also act responsibly. I also hope the rest of the fashion industry is watching. I think this is how all fashion should be.?
