| Blake Lively's recent autumnal pantsuit parade: fun or bizarre' | Added 6 years ago | Source: CeleBitchy |

I never really thought of Blake Lively as a fashion icon, but she?s been trying her best to make tailored pantsuits have a moment.
In a Women Wear Daily interview in March, the 30-year-old actress revealed that she was her own stylist. When asked why, she admitted it was ?Probably because I have control issues and a big ego ? that?s probably the honest answer.? She went on to add that ?I just like it. I love design and I love fashion and it?s a way to be creative.? Her creativity has recently been expressed through a whole lot of pantsuits, like the tuxedo-esque Ralph & Russo ensemble she wore at the VMAs on Monday night.
During rehearsals for the VMAs on Monday, Blake was spotted in a linen, pastel menswear-inspired suit from Vivienne Westwood?s Fall 2018 collection. She finished the look with a loose-fitting blouse from Sonia Rykiel and Christian Louboutin flats (he makes flats? You learn something new everyday, I guess). Love the blush shade of the suit, and I would definitely wear that blouse with a pair of jeans, but I don?t like the ?I just pulled this out of the hamper? feelings this suit is giving me. Linen is an often problematic fabric. Hate, hate, hate the shoes.
Blake is making the promotional rounds for her latest movie, the Paul Feig-directed crime drama A Simple Favor, so she?s had lots of opportunities to show off some of the other suits in her wardrobe, including a velvet number from Brunello Cucinelli that she wore on Friday. She?s wearing a jacket over another jacket albeit a sleeveless one and no shirt this time around. I live in Atlanta, not New York, but I can?t imagine it?s ?jacket weather? there yet. She must be hot, right? This suit is giving me a bohemian vibe, maybe it?s the velvet, but I guess it?s okay. The spiked Louboutin pumps she?s wearing with this suit are infinitely better than those flats. I really like them.
Also on Friday, she was seen because there?s no way you could miss her in a neon green Versace jacket, pants and sweater. Fun fact: the jacket is from Versace?s Spring 2019 Men?s collection. I actually kind of like this one. Yes, she looks like a walking highlighter, but it?s bright and the most late summer-appropriate outfit she?s worn during this latest parade of pantsuits.
Did the circus come to town? That?s the only thing I can think about when seeing Blake in this checkered monstrosity from Roland Mouret that she modeled on Saturday. She added accessories that hearken back to her Gossip Girl days, including a collared shirt and tie (tucked into her pantswhy?), a saddle bag and a Lorraine Schwartz brooch. Nope. Nope, nope, nope.
I also kind of dig this three-piece pinstriped suit from Zimmerman seen on Sunday. I?ve always been a sucker for a nice, tailored vest though. I have a small(-ish) waist and bigger legs, so I think these wide leg pants could actually work on me as well. Maybe that?s why I like this one? But still, there?s so much fabric going on here. I admire her ability to not look like she?s sweating to death. I guess I can also admire her commitment to her pantsuits, but Im kind of ready for the next chapter in her fashion narrative.

| Blake Lively in Brandon Maxwell at the 'Deadpool 2' premiere: cute or meh' | Added 6 years ago | Source: CeleBitchy |

Here are some photos of Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds at the New York premiere of Deadpool 2, which is going by DP2 in promotional material. The Deadpool franchise is Ryan?s baby, and it?s been built with Ryan?s blood, sweat and tears. Blake knows that. So she?s always a little bit extra when she helps support her husband for Deadpool duty.
For the premiere, Blake wore a Brandon Maxwell dress in the ?Deadpool colors? of black and red. She paired the dress with Louboutin heels, Lorraine Schwartz jewelry and a Judith Leiber clutch that looked like a ?party mix tape.? Thoughts on the ensemble? I always think Blake looks like one part needs a minor tweak to be absolutely perfect, and for this look, I would say that it was her hair that needed the tweak. The combo of the too-long earrings with the flattened hair is not great. But otherwise, it?s fine and she looks cute here.
On the red carpet, Ryan talked about how in real life, he?s a lot different than Deadpool, obviously. He told People: ?Oh, I?m a little more [sentimental]. I can lay it on pretty thick. I?ve always been sentimental ? since I was a kid.?

| Blake Lively wore a giant Versace gown at the Met Gala: love it or hate it? | Added 6 years ago | Source: CeleBitchy |

I kind of enjoy the fact that Blake Lively always wants to wear the biggest gown to the Met Gala. I mean, part of it is thirst, but then again the Met Gala rewards the thirst. It?s the one place where you should go bigger and crazier. But? while Blake?s Versace look was big and notable, was it also sort of? boring? I?ve been struggling to really understand how she interpreted the theme. I?m sure this is probably based on some Medieval or Renaissance art work, but does it mean anything if people don?t get that? At what point is this just an overdone ballgown with a headpiece?
Speaking of not really getting it, I love Doutzen Kroes, but I don?t love her in this Sies Marjan look.
Cardi B went for something more obvious in this Moschino. I love her.

| Blake Lively jokes that she's her own stylist because of 'control issues & a big ego' | Added 6 years ago | Source: CeleBitchy |

Did you know Blake Lively doesn?t have a stylist?!?!?! This is the biggest breaking news since ?Friends costars Jennifer Aniston and Courteney Cox are friends in real life!? One of Blake Lively?s biggest claims to fashion-fame is that she doesn?t have a stylist, that she talks to designers directly, that she has developed her own fashion eye, and that she really enjoys styling herself. It?s her ?thing.? Now, do you believe that? I believe she doesn?t technically have one stylist working for her. But I believe she works with stylists who work for particular designers or design houses all the time. Still, there is a distinction, so whatever. In any case, Blake Lively gave an interview to Women?s Wear Daily about how she?s her own stylist. You can read the piece here. Some highlights:
Acting as her own stylist: ?It?s a lot of work ? I mean, it?s not hard in that we all dress ourselves every morning. So once you have the clothes, you just pick out what to wear like any other human being does. But it?s easier because you have access to clothes and so it?s not that hard. The hard part is going through all the fashion shows and screenshotting all the looks you like and calling them in. I have an assistant who helps in calling in the looks. But a lot of it is I have relationships with the designers.?
This year?s Met Gala look is already in the works: ?I just sent Lorraine Schwartz and Christian Louboutin my dress, and said, ?Ok let?s do something special.? They?re making something custom for it. So it?s kind of nice, because I have a bunch of artists around me who I have direct relationships with. It?s sort of a group effort with that. I rely on people who do that for a living rather than outsourcing it to someone else.?
She does it because she has control issues: ?Probably because I have control issues and a big ego ? that?s probably the honest answer. I just like it. I love design and I love fashion and it?s a way to be creative. In my job I get to be creative, but it?s over a period of time and so many other people are involved, whereas this is a beginning, middle and end, and I get to be creative and there?s an end date in the near future. It?s the same reason why I like doing my friends? hair and makeup or cooking ? you get to be creative and finish it. Whereas with my job you do it and then two years later it?s finished. It probably goes back to the control issues; it?s like, ?Ok I did it, I completed it, it?s done!??
[From WWD]
I think if you?re one of those women who enjoy fashion and styling and makeup, then you probably should act as your own stylist. It does seem like fun, especially if you have those designer connections and you can just call up Michael Kors and ask him to make something for you. The thing is, all I can think about is how time-consuming it must be, especially for any given actress who has to attend dozens of red carpets a year. Don?t you get sort of burnt out on it? Doesn?t it become un-fun at some point?

Sarah at Cinesnark/LaineyGossip referred to Blake Lively as our new ?B-movie queen,? and I find that rather fitting. In another era, and in a parallel universe where Blake had less hustle and wasn?t married to Ryan Reynolds, she would be in Lifetime movies. But since she?s the queen of the hustle and she?s A-list by marriage, she gets to star in movies. At some point, she just stopped trying to do ?important work? in smaller roles in more prestigious films. Now she?s only doing starring, lead roles in small-budget B-movies. And it works for her.
These are photos of Blake filming The Rhythm Section in Dublin this week. Some sites have claimed that Blake is playing a homeless woman. I suspect that?s being said because of the busted wig and the clothes, although I?ve never seen anyone homeless wear such a well-cut coat or ?ugly? sweatpants that drape so flatteringly. Blake is not doing ?homeless cosplay.? She?s playing Stephanie Patrick, a woman ?pushed over the edge by the violent deaths of her family, [who] survives only by taking other identities.? From the Amazon description of the book (the source material for the script):
Stephanie Patrick?s world was destroyed by the Atlantic aircrash. Falling into a downward spiral of prostitution, drugs and drink, she is picked up by a journalist who has discovered that it was a bomb that caused the crash. And it is his murder that pulls her out of herself.
The Rhythm Section is not a thriller about the hunt for a terrorist, although that is the path Stephanie takes, and it?s not a story about revenge, although justice for her family is her initial motivation. Rather, The Rhythm Section is the story of Stephanie?s attempt to reclaim herself. She has to rediscover who she is through a series of roles that she is forced to play; she is never herself. As a prostitute, she is Lisa, the chemical blonde. Later, she is Petra Reuter, German anarchist turned mercenary terrorist. Sometimes, she is Marina Gaudenzi, a Swiss businesswoman, or she?s Susan Branch, an American student, or Elizabeth Shepherd, an English management consultant.
[From Amazon]
Stephanie (a terrible spy name) ends up being recruited by a spy agency and she falls in love or something. This sounds like an excuse for Blake to try to do different accents (GOOD LUCK) and wear a lot of wigs. It sounds like Alias mixed with Atomic Blonde mixed with? like, James Bond, or something. It?s going to be a mess. But hey, someone has to do it. Why not Blake?
Ryan teased her on Instagram too:

| Blake Lively didn't always stand up for herself for fear of being labeled a 'diva' | Added 7 years ago | Source: CeleBitchy |

Blake Lively is still promoting her movie, All I See Is You, which comes out on Friday. The reviews aren?t great, the Rotten Tomatoes score is middling, but I guess it?s not the worst film ever or even the worst Blake Lively film ever. To promote the film, Blake has been happily talking about her children (she?s pushing one kid to become a chef), she?s trolling her husband for his birthday, and of course she?s giving us a fashion show. But did you know that Blake thinks about real things too? She tells People Magazine that she worried about coming across like a ?diva? for speaking out:
As a rising star in Hollywood, Blake Lively worried that she would be labeled a ?diva? just for speaking out in her own interests.
?I think that sometimes you?re not encouraged to stand up for yourself,? the actress, 30, tells PEOPLE in this week?s issue.
?It doesn?t even mean in really dramatic ways,? she added. ?That just means that if you?re working too many hours, or you aren?t being paid what someone else at your work level is being paid, or if you?re being treated differently than someone else on the crew, or whoever.?
While Lively says she was always ?passionate? about ?standing up? for others, when it came to her own problems, she sometimes remained quiet.
?I didn?t feel like I could fight for myself in the same way, because I was afraid of coming across as a diva or difficult or demanding,? she explains. ?As a woman, you?re afraid of a label you may acquire by demanding fair treatment for yourself that you know that you?ve earned.?
If she could give her younger self any advice, Lively says, ?I?d encourage myself to love myself and fight for myself, as hard as I fought for other people.?
[From People]
If this interview had come out a month ago, I would have rolled my eyes at Blake saying something really f–king obvious. But in the wake of the Harvey Weinstein scandal, I?m reminded again of the precarious positions so many young actresses were put in by Weinstein. We still don?t know the extent of Weinstein?s machinations towards the careers and reputations of the women he assaulted or harassed. I?m reminded once again that all it would have taken from Weinstein is a few words to Page Six or Vogue and an actress would be branded a ?diva? or ?difficult? or something worse. While Blake has done damage to her reputation on her own (#NeverForget The Allure of Antebellum), let?s not discount the fact that so many of these actresses are terrified of pissing off the wrong men.

| Blake Lively changed outfits seven times in one day: too much or fabulous? | Added 7 years ago | Source: CeleBitchy |

As I went through these photos, I actually had to take stock of my life and how many times I, a humble blogger, change my clothes throughout any given day. If it?s a gym day, this is my routine (I?ll try not to be too exhaustive): wake up in an old t-shirt, shower, change into ?work outfit? of sweatpants & t-shirt, change into gym clothes, shower, change back into work outfit (maybe change the t-shirt) and then rinse & repeat day after day. If I?m going out for anything besides the gym, I?ll maybe change into jeans or something clean and presentable. That?s it. Obviously, I?m not Blake Lively. Blake spent Monday promoting her latest film, All I See Is You, in New York. She literally changed outfits SEVEN TIMES. She gave paparazzi seven different ?looks? in one day of promotion. So let?s get through them. The look above – the silver dress – is Chanel. That?s what she wore to the premiere.
This is Ralph Lauren. Shockingly, I love this. I get tired of Blake in princess gowns. She has the body to really pull off menswear-inspired stuff.
A BANANAS Brandon Maxwell. I enjoy this. She can pull off yellow.
This is Oscar de la Renta. This was her ?morning show? look!! It?s too much for morning show appearances, but this would have been a great premiere look.
Here?s another Chanel piece – a houndstooth jumpsuit which, frankly, looks amazing on her. She should have worn this all day!
This is Michael Kors, from head to toe. I like this, but it?s not my favorite.
And finally, here?s her last look of Monday. I think she and Ryan went to dinner. This is crazy.

| Blake Lively in yellow Oscar de la Renta at ballet gala: lovely or tedious? | Added 7 years ago | Source: CeleBitchy |

Blake Lively attended the American Ballet Theatre Spring 2017 Gala last night and as you can see, she?s a wilting wallflower who never wants to get attention for how she dresses. Wait, what? HOW DARE YOU. How dare you talk about her style when you should be talking about? something else. Ballet or something. This neon dress is by Oscar de la Renta. Yellows are so difficult for most women to pull off, but this looks nice on her. I hope she doesn?t scream at me or other people for talking about what she?s wearing.
In other Blake news, as we discussed in the links last week, Blake got cast in a new movie and it sounds? um, interesting. The movie is called Bruised and Blake will play ?Jackie, a single mother working two jobs and a disgraced MMA fighter who has been up against the ropes her entire life. When the authorities threaten to take her young son away from her, she must get back in the cage for one last chance to fight for redemption and give her son the life she always wanted.? This role just screams ?Blake Lively,? right? Then again, I can?t figure out who I would have cast. Michelle Rodriguez? Gal Gadot? Archie Panjabi? But no, they just went with the first blonde they saw.
From the same event, here?s Hilary Rhoda in Monique Lhuillier. Eh. It could have been cute, but it ended up really boring.
Nicky Hilton in Oscar de la Renta. I think this is really cute?
Katie Holmes in Zac Posen. This would be really great with just a few adjustments. Like, instead of a ?boob flap,? just make the top part a structured bodice. And then the whole look is amazing.

| Blake Lively in Versace at the Met Gala: how dare you talk about her style! | Added 7 years ago | Source: CeleBitchy |

Noted fashion-shunner Blake Lively arrived unexpectedly on the Met Gala red carpet. It was quite shocking, because Blake is not associated with fashion at all, and she will bitch out reporters on the red carpet if they ask her any fashion questions. I hope she personally walked up to every one of those photographers and fashion reporters at the Met Gala and demanded that they ask her questions about child abuse, politics, climate change and refugee crises.
To go with her image as someone who cannot be asked any fashion questions, Blake decided to go with a simple sack cloth. What?s that? Oh, no. You mean she wore Versace? You mean she attended an event devoted to superficiality and image and art? Huh. If I may be so bold, I would have preferred Blake?s Versace if the colors had been changed up a little bit. I get that you?re supposed to take in the gown in full-length, so you can see the pop of color at the hem. The blue is a great pop, but I just feel like the beige-gold base of the dress is? too beige. Especially on someone like Blake, who is a pretty beige person on a good day. And much like many other ladies on the red carpet, I feel like this is more of a Cannes dress than a Met Gala dress. Also: the gown makes it look like she?s wearing giant shoulder-pads.

Blake Lively was honored at Variety?s Power of Women luncheon on Friday. Blake is on one of the Variety covers for their Power of Women issue, which I took issue with last week because? seriously, we?re celebrating Blake Lively as a powerful Hollywood woman these days? I also took issue with it because Blake was not even being honored for her actual Hollywood work! She wasn?t being honored for her acting career or even her failed lifestyle site. She was being honored because she got a worthy non-profit some time at a big conference, then she used her Variety interview to complain about people writing mean stuff about her on the internet.
Blake wore this green pantsuit and I don?t have the ID for it. I don?t have the ID for it because Blake Lively threw a tantrum on the red carpet when she was asked about her outfit. Keep in mind, Blake has had more fashion contracts than most A-list models. She?s been the face of Chanel handbags, Gucci and Michael Kors. She?s also currently getting paid to twirl for L?Oreal while talking about being part Cherokee. But don?t you dare ask her about her outfit, you guys. Because this will happen:
