It seems as though each day a new celebrity is under fire for their actions, and now Jennifer Lopez is the latest to receive backlash for a performance she gave in Turkmenistan on Saturday (June 29).
JLo was on hand for the country?s leader Gurbanguly Berdymukhamedov?s birthday celebration, where she did a set of her hits before singing ?Happy Birthday? to the man who is considered to be one of the most oppressive leaders in the world by Human Rights Watch.
A spokesperson for Ms. Lopez issued a statement saying that Jennifer never would have agreed to sing at the event had she known about Berdymukhamedov?s history of human rights violations.

?Jennifer Lopez and several other artists were invited and performed at a private corporate event for the China National Petroleum Corporation that was presented to their local executives in Turkmenistan.
This was not a government sponsored event or political in nature. The event was vetted by her representatives, had there been knowledge of human right issues of any kind, Jennifer would not have attended.
The China National Petroleum Corporation made a last minute ?birthday greeting? request prior to Jennifer taking the stage. This was not stipulated in her contract but she graciously obliged the China National Petroleum Corporation request.?

Taking care of her domestic duties, Jennifer Lopez did a little grocery shopping in Calabasas, California on Sunday afternoon (June 23).
Joined by her kiddos Max and Emme, the ?On the Floor? songstress put her hair up in a bun and headed back to her mommy mini-van after collecting plenty of healthy foods.
On Thursday (June 20) Jennifer was awarded a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, and she couldn?t help but get emotional during the occasion.
Lopez told the crowd, ?I really am overwhelmed. This all feels, I don?t know, kind of surreal, but so real. It?s awesome.?
She continued, "I love you, thank you so much for going on this journey with me. This landmark moment inspires me to work harder and dream bigger for all that is the future. I hope you feel as I do that it was all worth it, and I hope that I have touched your hearts even in a small way."

Jennifer Lopez wore a Christian Dior Pre-Fall 2013 dress with a rise-and-fall hemline to the unveiling of her star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame today. A lighter, strappier sandal or peep-toe would have worked a lot better than those clunky Brian Atwood ankle-strap pumps she’s wearing, but I love the dress. However, I don’t love it at two o’clock on a Thursday on Hollywood Boulevard. It’s completely inappropriate for the event. She looks ridiculous. Not to mention in desperate need of a hand-held steamer. It would seem couture ball gowns aren’t meant to be worn while lying on a sidewalk.

Making an impact in both the acting and music world, Jennifer Lopez was honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame on Thursday (June 20).
The "Live It Up" singer surrounded herself with family and her beau, Casper Smart, in a white sleeveless top and billowy peach skirt as she posed with her star.
Stoked for the award, the 43-year-old talent tweeted, "I wouldn't be where I am today w/o all of YOU and your infinite love & dedication. So excited for all of you to share this day with me!!! :)"
Nabbing the 2500th star, later J-Lo added, "The road that led to this day is paved with hard work, happiness & your amazing support! Excited to see u soon!!"

Ali Larter did a great summer take on the smoky eye at the Butterfly Ball earlier this week, going with a deep purple shadow instead of the traditional dark brown or gray. It achieves the same overall eye-intensifying effect of a smoky eye without appearing as heavy, which is perfect for summer’s less-is-more approach to makeup. Does it seem like it’s been over two-and-a-half years since the dramatic rescue of the 33 Chilean miners from a San Jose mine after they were trapped for 69 days? Time really does fly, and I still freshly recall watching the live feed of all of the miners emerging, one at a time, from the bowels of the Earth to feel fresh air on their faces and find themselves ensconced within the arms of Chilean President Sebastian Pinera. From the very beginning of the end of the day-long rescue, there have been buzzings of this tale being brought to life on the big screen. Now that day has arrived (or at least, the pre-production phase is happening), and Jennifer Lopez has been tapped as part of the ensemble cast.
Last week, Lopez revealed that she was circling a small indie flick, and now it’s emerged that she has signed on to appear in The 33, which will tell the (supposedly) true story of what happened during the more than two months that these miners were trapped. What role will JLo play in the movie? IMDb provides no clues, but it can’t be a huge role. Maybe she plays one of the miners’ wives … or maybe one of the mistresses. There was also a nurse who spoke to many of the miners while they were trapped, and she said she got hit on a lot. That seems like a decent role for JLo, but I question whether she has the gravitas to treat this subject matter with dignity. Here’s a bit of good news though — Antonio Banderas is starring in the movie:
Jennifer Lopez has signed on to join Antonio Banderas in the Chilean miner film The 33.
Mike Medavoy is producing the drama, based on the true story of the 33 Chilean miners who were rescued after being trapped for 69 days in 2010.
The film will mark Lopez’s first big-screen role since starring opposite Jason Statham in this year’s action-thriller Parker.
Martin Sheen and Brazilian actor Rodrigo Santoro also have boarded the ensemble film, which was presented to foreign buyers at last month?s Cannes Film Festival. Good Universe is handling international sales.
Patricia Riggen (La Misma Luna) is directing from a screenplay written by Mikko Alanne and Jose Rivera, with production scheduled to begin in the fall in Chile.
In 2011, Medavoy nabbed the rights to the 33 miners, whose remarkable rescue from the San Jose Mine garnered headlines worldwide. The men were trapped half a mile beneath the Earth?s surface. Banderas is playing the role of Mario Sepulveda, the charismatic miner nicknamed “Super Mario.” Sheen will play a miner’s father, while Santoro is tackling the role of a trapped miner.

Mmm, Rodrigo Santoro. Dude does have a nice booty (as did Antonio in his Original Sin days), and this film will surely have plenty of eye candy because you know they’ll handsome-up the miners a great deal, but I still can’t get over the casting of Jennifer Lopez in this movie. Surely, there are plenty of other Latina actresses (albeit unknown ones) with a lot more acting cred than JLo, but it could’ve been worse … say, if Eva Mendes were cast. Still, it really sounds like JLo signed onto this film to try and rebuild her acting career, which hasn’t been worth anything more than cheesy romcoms since the days of U Turn and Out of Sight. I wish her luck, but JLo would be better off releasing mediocture dance club tunes than attempting to be a “serious” actress on the backs of these miners.

Last week during an in-studio radio interview with Washington D.C.’s Hot 99.5, one of Jennifer Lopez’s people pushed a phone in her face while she was talking with the host. At first she was kind of taken aback telling the dude that she was live. The host said that it was okay and they weren’t live so Lopez took the call. The host should know everyone is on Jenny’s time.
Turns out she got the role in a film. “I just got this movie I wanted! It’s a great role and a lot of people wanted it. For a little actress like me that’s a big deal!”
Today we find outthe part she got was for the filmThe 33, about those 33 Chilean miners trapped for 69 days in a caved-in mine. She’ll star opposite Antonio Banderas, Martin Sheen and Rodrigo Ssantoro. This will be her first role sinceParkerand probably her most dramatic since, um, that bathtub scene with George Clooney. No word on which character she’ll play but my guess it’ll be a female character. Just call me Nostradamus.

These are photos of Jennifer Lopez at the amfAR inspiration Gala in New York last night. She’s in a very form-fitting blue lace Tom Ford gown. This looks like Jennifer’s typical style, skin-tight, shiny look-at-me. At least the thing is long and has sleeves. She could be flashing us. In terms of her hair and makeup, I really dislike that severe pulled-back hair, but maybe she didn’t want her hair to compete with that dress.
Lopez regularly brings Casper Smart with her to events, but in this case she was there with designer Kenneth Cole. Lopez does not like to be alone. She’s a serial monogamist and she falls hard and fast for seemingly whomever guy is in the right place at the right time, hence her current relationship. So does it shock you that Lopez is unable to sleep alone? When her very young bought and paid for backup dancer isn’t available to fill the bill, she’s said to make her female assistant sleep in the same bed with her. Allegedly there’s no funny business going on, it’s just Jenny from the manse needing company.
The superstar freely admits she’s got a real problem with sleeping alone. “But it has nothing to do with sex,” reports my inside source. “When Jennifer and her ex Marc Anthony were traveling all over South America taping for their 2012 show ‘Q’Viva,” Casper often didn’t accompany her – and when he wasn’t around, she’d ask her female cousin/assistant, Tiana, to spend the next right next to her because ‘I just get so lonely in bed!’”

It’s her cousin, so maybe Lopez feels like she’s known her all her life and it’s no biggie to ask her to sleep in the same bed, but still that sounds ridiculous. The lady is also Lopez’s assistant, and this is really stepping over a line. You know who does that? Lady Gaga. The story came out when her ex assistant filed a lawsuit against Gaga for unpaid wages. Gaga’s assistant claimed she “felt it was required” to share the bed with Gaga. If this story about Lopez is true, her assistant probably feels the same way.
In other J.Lo news, it was thought that she might be returning to American Idol after she was seen meeting with Ryan Seacrest. A source tells E! News “That’s not happening.” Lopez’s reluctance to return to Idol may have something to do with her movie career. She was live on a radio station when she got a phone call informing her that she’d earned a film role she was hoping for. TMZ has the footage where she happily freaks out and says “it’s a small movie, but it’s a great role and a lot of people wanted it.” Maybe that has something to do with why she’s not returning to Idol.

Taking care of some media obligations, Jennifer Lopez stopped by Washington DC?s Hot 99.5 on Wednesday (June 12), and got some exciting news in return.
While being interviewed by the station, an unidentified caller rang in to let the ?On the Floor? singer know she landed a coveted movie role.
Excited by the big turn of events, the former ?American Idol? judge got teary and explained, ?For a little actress like me, that?s always a big deal.?
No details were released on who the caller was or any specifics on the movie just yet, but stay linked to GossipCenter for more details as they emerge.
