Well, at least some of the casting rumors for True Detective Season 2 were true. We heard, months ago, that Colin Farrell and Taylor Kitsch were maybe/probably going to be playing two of the male leads. And now Colin has confirmed the news to an Irish newspaper. He said, in part:
“I?m doing the second series. I?m so excited. I know it will be eight episodes and take around four or five months to shoot. I know very little about it, but we’re shooting in the environs of Los Angeles which is great. It means I get to stay at home and see the kids.”

This news doesn?t piss me off, but I?m not jumping for joy either. Colin has always been a better actor than people believe, so I think he?ll probably do well in this role, whatever it is. But it?s also sort of? anti-climactic, you know?
So far, there?s been no hard confirmation about Taylor Kitsch. The rumor was that Kitsch was really pursuing the role, to the point where they stopped auditioning Garrett Hedlund for the same part. Which, I don?t know, I think is sort of a mistake? If Hedlund was showing interest in a role, why would you toss him aside for Taylor Kitsch? Hedlund is extremely talented, I?m just saying.
There were other rumors about Vince Vaughn and? Elisabeth Moss. I was really, really excited about the Moss rumors, but there hasn?t been anything new about her specifically in a while. Then last week, The Wrap said that producers are actually looking at SEVEN actresses for the female lead and the list is: Rosario Dawson, Jessica Biel, Malin Akerman, Jaimie Alexander, Brit Marling, Oona Chaplin, and Kelly Reilly. BIEL? Jaimie Alexander? Kelly Reilly? I mean, the list is okay, but sort of blandy bland bland. I wonder why Moss?s name isn?t being mentioned anymore? And if Colin Farrell is for-sure, doesn?t that mean that Biel is out? They starred together in the Total Recall remake and no one wants to be reminded of that.

I was a little bit late getting to the True Detective party. I only recently binge-watched the series, so I guess I missed out on a lot of the episode-by-episode drama and conspiracy theories. I enjoyed Season 1 a lot (I love crime stories and police procedurals), but I can see where people would be disappointed by the lack of some overarching conspiracy and takedown of more people connected to the murders. That being said, it was a well-written series with spectacular acting. Both Woody Harrelson and Matthew McConaughey gave great performances and it doesn?t surprise me at all that MM is a shoo-in for all of the big TV awards. It also doesn?t surprise me that writer/creator Nic Pizzolatto has been criticized for creating a world dominated by white men (and white male privilege).
There were hopes that Season 2 ? which will feature a new season-long investigation and a new cast ? would include better parts for women and perhaps a world that wasn?t so dominated by white male saviors. Those hopes are adorable. Pizzolatto has made it clear that while there will be one significant female character in Season 2, it?s probably going to be another sausage-fest. And there are some big casting rumors too.
Colin Farrell is in talks to star in the second season of HBO’s ?True Detective,? an individual familiar with the series told TheWrap, while Taylor Kitsch is also the leading candidate for the younger male lead. An HBO spokesperson told TheWrap ?there is no news to confirm on the casting.?
Insiders tell TheWrap that HBO was intent on landing a true movie star, someone who could play rugged and gritty, and they’ve done just that with Farrell, who is nearing a deal for the series? older male lead. While Farrell’s last movie, ?Winter’s Tale,? bombed in theaters, its failure can’t really be attributed to Farrell, who won a Golden Globe for ?In Bruges? and is coming off an acclaimed supporting performance in ?Saving Mr. Banks.?
Kitsch is coming off strong notices for his performance as a young gay man in HBO’s ?The Normal Heart.? While his two movie star vehicles, ?Battleship? and ?John Carter,? did not live up to the expectations created by their hefty budgets, Kitsch displayed solid chops on NBC’s ?Friday Night Lights? and in Peter Berg’s ?Lone Survivor.? Berg, of course, just worked with HBO on ?The Leftovers.? Garrett Hedlund has also been rumored to be in contention for ?True Detective? but Kitsch is strongly believed to have an edge on the coveted role.
?True Detective? earned multiple Emmy nominations on Thursday, including nods for Best Drama Series and lead actors Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson, neither of whom will return for the second season, which will be set in California.
HBO had a high bar to clear for the second season, initially pursuing both Christian Bale and Jessica Chastain. Those actors passed on the project due to scheduling issues, as ?True Detective? will require a significant time commitment, according to sources.
While creator Nic Pizzolatto indicated Thursday that there are four leads, those familiar with the second season’s scripts have told TheWrap that there are three leads (two men and one woman), with Farrell’s character serving as the primary focus.

I think Chastain was always going to be a pipe dream, even if the part was really good ? she simply has too many projects in pre-production. She works pretty much back-to-back and there?s no way she could find six months to do a TV show. As for Taylor Kitsch and Colin Farrell? I don?t hate it but we?ll see what happens. This could be just the boost that both of their careers need. I liked Kitsch in The Normal Heart but if you?re looking for scene-stealers in that film, look no further than Matt Bomer and Jim Parsons. Kitsch is always looking for a project where he can be the ?breakout? and it still hasn?t happened, that?s what I?m saying. Maybe True Detective will be it. As for Colin ? he?s a more than capable actor, he can do an American accent and turning to TV might be great for his career.
I am curious about the female secondary lead? I?ve heard some dream-casting rumors about Ellen Page? That would be interesting.

Most of you won?t care, I?m sure, but Colin Farrell has finally explained his relationship with the late Elizabeth Taylor. Before her death, Elizabeth mentioned once or twice that she considered Colin a friend, and then when she passed away, Colin was invited to be part of her funeral/memorial ? he read a poem for Elizabeth. Knowing Elizabeth?s taste in men ? God, she loved a scoundrel with an accent! ? I thought she and Colin had probably met in passing and enchanted each other. Turns out, it was a lot more to it. Colin appeared on The Ellen Show and basically said that he wanted to marry Elizabeth!
One of the greatest loves of Colin Farrell’s life was over 40 years his senior. During a sit-down with Ellen DeGeneres on Monday, the Irish actor, 37, opened up about his unusual and touching relationship with screen icon Elizabeth Taylor, who passed at age 79 in 2011.
‘It was kind of like the last, it feels like in my head, not her, I?m projecting, but the last kind of romantic relationship I had, which was never consummated,’ said Colin, who is now starring in Saving Mr Banks. It all started when Colin bumped into her team in a hospital.
‘My youngest son was being born,’ started the looker who has two sons, James, aged 10, and Henry, aged four. We were in Cedars and I bumped into – it was about an hour before Henry arrived – and I bumped into somebody outside the lift. It was Elizabeth?s manager and her close friend Tim Mendelsohn and they said what are you doing here?’
Colin – who Eileen Atkins, 70, famously confessed in 2005 had asked her for no-strings attached-sex when they co-starred in Ask The Dust – continued: ‘I said my son?s about to be born. They said oh. I said what are you doing here? And they said well Elizabeth?s having a stent put in her heart, it?s no big deal cause she had so much sh** and I said, “Will you tell her I said hello? She probably won’t know who I am.” And they go, “No, she knows who you are,” and I went wow, “Cool. Well, tell her I said hello and I wish her the best” and they said, “Will do.? I got home a few days later with Henry and I was thinking about Elizabeth and how she was doing and I called my publicist and I said I bumped into some people of Elizabeth Taylor?s, some friends of hers, could I send her some flowers? And my publicist said that?s funny because I?m looking at and orchid from Elizabeth Taylor for you… I said wow that?s amazing. I said, well send that bad boy over to the house.’
‘I then cheekily about a week later said, listen is there any chance I can go?can I go and see her?’ Colin admitted. After his rep made some calls, the two started hanging out. ‘That was the beginning of a year and a half or two years of what was a really cool,’ he said. ?I just adored her,’ the In Bruges star, who had attended Elizabeth’s funeral in 2011 and even read a poem, said. ‘She was a spectacular, spectacular woman.’
He also touchingly added he wouldn’t have minded being her eighth husband: ‘I wanted to be number eight but we ran out of road.’
One of the things the two stars bonded over was their insomnia.
‘She?s wasn?t much of a sleeper at night like I?m not, so at two o?clock in the morning I?d call her,’ he let on. ‘She wouldn?t mind me speaking of this because I?d be very careful of you know? I?d call her at two in the morning and the nurse would answer the phone I?d say is she awake? The nurse was like hold on I’ll just check and then I?d be on the phone and I’d hear hello? And I?d go how?s it going and we?d talk for a half an hour an hour into the wee hours. Really cool.’

I mean? come on! I?m so happy he finally explained their relationship. So Elizabeth had her eye on him and she made the first move ? sending him a lovely orchid. And Colin then pursued her, which probably made her so happy. Elizabeth loved to be pursued. She loved when men put her on a pedestal. I have to say? I think Colin is a special kind of man. He really doesn?t see age or infirmity, does he? All he sees is the woman. And you know what? I wonder if Elizabeth and Colin might have in fact fooled around. Come on! You know he tried something.

I?m just going to save everybody some time and say that I?d probably do every single person in these photos. The LA premiere of Saving Mr. Banks wasn?t the most attention-grabbing event of the week, but these photos are like a warm blankie on a cold winter day. Emma Thompson looked fabulous, and it looks like she?s really tight with Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson (Rita and Emma looked super-excited to see each other). Plus, Emma looks fabulous and it?s just great to see her doing so much promotional work.
Colin Farrell posed with a little girl who I think played his daughter in the film. Colin also posed with his friend Wes Bentley, who is not in the film but probably showed up just to support Colin. Wes?s lumberjack hotness makes Colin?s fug haircut look better, right? Right.
And to make things even more awesome, the original stars of Mary Poppins came to the premiere! Both Dick Van Dyke and Julie Andrews were there! How awesome is that? Wouldn?t you just like to spend a few hours listening to Julie and Emma talk? I would. Also: Julie?s velvet suit is amazing!!!

Showing off all his hard work in the gym, Colin Farrell went for a shirtless run in Hollywood on Monday (June 17th).
The "Total Recall" star bared his tats in black Adidas pants, sneakers, a black headband, and his white shirt tied around his waist as he pounded the pavement.
Currently residing in L.A., the Irish actor can soon be seen in the upcoming drama, "Saving Mr. Banks," in which author P.L. Travers travels from London to Hollywood as Walt Disney adapts her novel Mary Poppins for the big screen.
Costarring in the flick are Tom Hanks, Emma Thompson, Paul Giamatti, Jason Schwartzman, and Ruth Wilson. "Saving Mr. Banks" hits theaters on December 13th.

Here are some photos of the Saturday premiere of Epic, that new children?s film. It?s animated, of course, and it features voice work by Amanda Seyfried, Beyonce, Pitbull, Chris O?Dowd, Jason Sudeikis, Christoph Waltz, Steven Tyler and many, many more. Colin Farrell does some voice work and he came out for the premiere. At first I was like, ?Oh, he looks nice. He took a shower and he?s wearing a nice sweater and he looks so handsome.? Then I did the scroll-down and I was eye-assaulted by his freeballin? bulge. This is some Jon Hamm sh-t, right?
I mean? we know Colin is something of a tripod. He?s got one of the biggest dongs in the business (along with Jon Hamm, who is rumored to be enormous). But much like Jon Hamm, I do have to wonder? is freeballin? really the answer to one?s size problems? I get that tighty-whiteys might be TOO tight, too confining. But surely there is a happy medium between tight drawers and going commando to the premiere of a children?s movie. I can see the outline of IT in several of these pics. And yes, I?m impressed and titillated. But I?m also kind of grossed out.

Here are some new photos of Colin Farrell in New York City yesterday, where he seemed to be filming Winter?s Tale in? the Hudson, maybe? Maybe some kind of barge? Whatever. Winter?s Tale is that film that seems to be, like, ?a modern fairy tale?. I think Russell Crowe plays the bad guy and Jessica Brown Findlay (Lady Sybil from Downton Abbey) is the girl/princess or something.
Really I?m just writing about these photos because I was startled by Colin?s hair. I didn?t realize he had shaved the sides of his head and he had some long hair up top. Maybe it?s just my generation, but this is a surprisingly familiar look to me. When I was 13-15 years old, many guys had this haircut. Specifically, most of the skaters and ?punk? kids had this hair. Basically, the first five guys I ever made out with had hair exactly like this. What is about Colin Farrell that always makes me think of my sexual past? I think it?s because I boned a guy who looked like a weasel-y version of Colin when I was in college.
Other Colin news? he recently signed on to costar with Anthony Hopkins in a ?supernatural thriller? called Solace. The gist? ?An FBI detective seeks the help of a retired and reclusive doctor, to try and solve a series of grisly murders. The doctor was a wiz at the murder game, but lost his mojo when his daughter died tragically. Desperate, the detective presses the doctor to come out of retirement for one more case. Farrell will play the serial killer, putting him mano a mano against Hopkins. They?ve yet to cast the detective.? Haha ? I thought Colin was going to be the FBI guy. Not with that hair!!

Pulling a grey sweater over a denim top, the 36-year-old actor posed for the Mark Seliger shot front page while dishing about everything from his love life to his substance-filled past.

On his days of abusing drugs and alcohol:
"Oh, I wouldn't tell a truth all day. If I'd had chicken and beans for dinner, I'd tell you I had steak and potatoes. No purpose, just habit. The amount of energy you have to put in and the amount of lies you have to tell to keep a drug habit alive, it's fairly significant. Your whole life is a lie."
On embracing the unknown as a father of two:
"Not knowing what the f*ck I'm doing as a dad is huge. I don't know what I'm doing, and that's a very liberating thing. You just go, 'Oh look, there's sh*t on the floor.' There's actually sh*t on the floor?I have a picture of it on my phone. So what do you do? You clean it up, put a diaper on his a**, and that's that. It's just about being present for these guys."
On his love life:
"I haven't been in a relationship in a while. Two and a half years since I was with Henry's mother. If I ever do get involved with somebody again, I will try as much as possible to shut my f*cking mouth and stay f*cking present. Love in action, man! Not love in f*cking words."
