These are some new photos of Christian Bale walking with his family in Santa Monica yesterday. Christian is usually pretty good at avoiding the paps, but they caught him anyway. He looks like the average family man here, right? Beard, sunglasses, bad shorts, and flip flops. He’s still carrying some of his American Hustle weight around, but that could be some sympathy weight for his very pregnant wife, Sibi. She looks pretty close to her due date, which will make 8-year-old Emmeline a big sister.
I was thinking about Christian yesterday in light of Gary Oldman’s inflammatory Playboy interview. Remember when Bale was considered trouble in Hollywood? There was some drama with his mom and sister, and Bale cut off contact with them. Then he was outed for yelling at a lighting technician on the Terminator: Salvation set. During the entire rant, Christian dropped plenty of f-bombs, but notice how he did not drop any slurs against minorities? That’s telling.
Christian has plenty of projects in the chute, including a couple of Terrence Malick films that will probably be Oscar-baity to the max. His name came up as a possibility for True Detective S2, but his publicist denied his involvement. Christian doesn’t seem like a good fit for television. He’d rather keep his nomadic, pap-avoiding lifestyle intact. Enjoy these pics of Christian because there probably won’t be too many for awhile!

Christian Bale?s wife Sibi was pregnant the whole way through the awards season! And we didn?t even Bump Watch her! My mind has been boggled. First of all? did you know Sibi?s real name is Sandra? I never knew that. Everyone always refers to her as Sibi, she?s always labeled as Sibi in photos and articles, so I guess I?ve never questioned it. Anyway, Sibi and Christian are expecting their second child. They are already parents to nine-year-old daughter Emmeline Bale. I also didn?t know their daughter?s name! Emmeline is barely photographed (even before Kristen Bell and Dax Shepard?s No Kids Pledge) but Christian does talk about her in interviews and such. You can tell he loves his daughter very much and he seems very involved. So much so that I?ve always kind of wondered why Christian and Sibi didn?t have more kids. Not that it?s any of my business, of course, but I?m glad to see that they?re going for another one:

The notoriously private couple, who have been married for 14 years, are already parents to a daughter, who will turn 9 this month.
Bale?s rep had no comment.
?It?s all about my girls, my wife and my daughter. I carry a picture of them with me all the time,? Bale, 40, said about his two girls in 2009.
Sibi, 43, debuted her baby belly last Sunday on the red carpet at the Academy Awards, where her husband was nominated for Best Actor for American Hustle, which also scored nine other nominations including Best Picture.

Gotta love when People Magazine manages to get a hard confirmation but then they add ?Bale?s rep had no comment.? That?s a pretty typical Hollywood move. But I do have to give Christian some credit ? he managed to go through the entire awards season in the most low-key way, showing up to every event with his wife but barely doing any press. I even talked about it a few weeks before the Oscars ? I was surprised that Bale didn?t seem to be waging any kind of campaign at all, which was particularly weird because he was literally the best part of American Hustle. I mean, if Matthew McConaughey?s wife had been pregnant during the awards season, we would have had interview after interview about it and Matthew would have been working ?MAN MAKES BABY, my wife is pregnant! Alright alright alright? into every speech.
Anyway, congrats to Sibi and Christian!

Christian Bale has been on his do-gooder world tour for a while now. From visiting victims of the Aurora theater shooting to visiting a kid with leukemia to even taking a kid to Disneyland, he’s become the new Mother Teresa if Mother Teresa had nuts.
His latest effort in making us all look bad is writing “Dan’s Our Man” on his face and having the photo posted to Facebook. The phrase is in regards to 21-year-old Danny Hammond who’s been suffering from astrocytoma, a tumor on his spinal cord, since he was 9. People have been posting “Dan’s Our Man” messages to his Facebook page and five days ago the photo up top showed up.
Although most contributors are family and friends, Christian Bale recently sent his own show of support, sending a pic with “Dan’s Our Man” written across his face. Bale found out about Hammond through Hammond’s cousin, a costume designer who has worked with Bale.
This makes me feel terrible. The nicest thing I’ve done in the past few months is give a homeless guy a dollar and it’s not so much that I gave him a dollar as it is I wanted him to change it out for four quarters. The awkward silence as I stood there waiting for change was deafening.

Here are some photos of Christian Bale and his wife Sibi arriving in LA after a long weekend in London, where they attended the BAFTAs together. I wanted to talk about Christian because? well, we have barely discussed him at all in months. Which is weird, right? I mean, we talk about him in association with other people, but mostly it?s been all quiet on the Bale front.
It?s strange because Christian is the lead in one of the biggest films of the awards season, American Hustle, and he?s promoted the film off-and-on for months. He?s given interviews, he?s done red carpets and press conferences and yet? there hasn?t been any news. He?s managed to get another Oscar nomination (for Best Actor) and yet all of the attention has been going to Bradley Cooper and Jennifer Lawrence (and a bit to Amy Adams). I feel like the hype around Hustle is all wrong ? I walked out of that film mostly impressed with Bale (that?s the most I?ve ever liked him) and with Jeremy Renner. I thought Bradley was overwrought and J-Law?s part was overhyped and showy.
Anyway, I just thought I would point this out: Christian Bale has pretty much run the most quietly effective Oscar campaign this season. He hasn?t made any news, he?s fulfilled all of his PR obligations, he attended film festivals and he?s attended all of the awards shows he was nominated for. He got his Oscar nomination and I think that is enough for him. Part of it is that he already has an Oscar, so there?s no ?hustle? for that big prize anymore. And part of it may be that Christian really doesn?t want to campaign this time around. He?s happy promoting the film, but he?s not interesting in shaking hands and doing a lot of extra stuff for an award. It?s like he?s found the perfect balance between ?Michael Fassbender/publicly declaring that he won?t campaign? and ?Leonardo DiCaprio/actively coming to play and kissing all the babies.? I call it “professionalism”.

Giving the ladies plenty to swoon over, Christian Bale stepped out in London, England this evening (February 16) for the 2014 EE British Academy Film Awards.
Joined by co-star Bradley Cooper and director David O. Russell, the "American Hustle" stud couldn?t wait to show off his snazzy attire as he hit the red carpet outside the Royal Opera House ahead of the night?s festivities.
As the 2014 BAFTAs get underway, the audience will be treated to a special performance of the hit single ?Heroes? by Tinie Tempah and Laura Mvula.
Of the track, Tempah explained, "It was inspired by film scores and theme songs so I?m looking forward to showcasing what British music has to offer in front of the world?s film industry elite."

He?s been everything from a serial killer to the Dark Knight, and now Christian Bale is taking on a role of Biblical proportions!
The ?American Hustle? hunk is featured in a new still image from the set of his forthcoming flick ?Exodus,? and he is a pretty convincing Moses.
According to the synopsis, ?Exodus? offers a new take on the classic story and is slated to hit theaters on December 12, 2014.
Also on the stellar roster are stars like Sigourney Weaver, Aaron Paul, Joel Edgerton, Ben Kingsley, and John Turturro.

The NYC premiere for American Hustle was last night, trying to hustle up some game-changing Oscar campaign math. And they might just pull it off, God knows. My take? Considering how crazy people are going for Jennifer Lawrence?s performance, I think J-Law is going to be nominated for Best Supporting Actress at the Oscars. I think the film will definitely be on the Best Picture shortlist too, and maybe David O. Russell will get another Best Director nomination. But the hopes many had that Amy Adams would be nominated for Best Actress? I?m not so sure. We?ll see. There?s still a lot of math to do in the Oscar laboratory.
Anyway, last night?s premiere was mostly a sausage party ? Jennifer Lawrence wasn?t there, and Amy Adams was the biggest ?fashion girl? on the carpet. So mostly, just look at the guys. I think Bradley Cooper has had a recent haircut, right? I don?t care for it, but then again? I can?t say that I ever care that much about Bradley?s hair. He has nice hair, for sure, but sometimes I feel like his hair makes up for some gaps in his skills? Jeremy Renner looks pretty much the same as always and there were about a million photos of him making weird faces. And Christian Bale actually looks hella sexy with that scraggily beard. Bless him. I can?t believe it, but I think the beard just put Bale on my ?I would hit it? list.
I?m also including some bonus photos of Amy Adams. Amy wore this absolutely terrible Elie Saab gown. EW. It looks so cheap! I really hope her fashion game improves through this promotional tour.

Christian Bale covers the January issue of Details to promote Out of the Furnace (which looks really good) and American Hustle, which is prime Oscar bait to the max. In an odd twist, Christian decided that the best way to ugly himself up for this role (because that’s his “method”) was to gain weight and wear a wiglet. Usually he loses tons of weight while aiming at Oscar gold. Man, his metabolism is going to rebel one day.
The Details cover is amusing because Christian is all, “Don’t look at me. I’m such an artist,” but the interview is surprisingly friendly. A few years ago while promoting Terminator: Salvation, Bale developed a reputation for railing against his press duties. He’d often embark on a rant during a feature interview, including the time he went off on a GQ journalist for asking him if he ever wanted to do comedy. He subjected the poor journo to a speech on how he hated pushing product as Bruce Wayne; he was so mad when they put “stuff, goo, in his hair, okay?” Then he kept insisting, “I can’t stand havin’ my photo taken. Can’t f—in’ stand it. What I’m tellin’ you is that I will not ever be a model. If I’m ever modeling, you’ll know I really f—ing need the money.” This particular discussion came at about the same time that the infamous set freak out hit YouTube.
Bale has grown up a bit since then. He talks a lot here about his habit of “uglying” up for a role, but insists he’s not an overly sensitive artiste any more. Bale also dismisses the internet backlash against Ben Affleck as Batman:
On his “brave” combover in American Hustle: “Hey, I hope I’ve done braver things. But it’s certainly bold, isn’t it? [Laughs] I’ve always been fascinated by the dynamics of those things, though that was something we invented. I don’t know that anyone has ever done it precisely that way, with glue.”
On his character’s beer gut: [Laughs] “I ended up with a herniated disk, which was a combination of the extra weight and slumping a lot. It’s my own fault–nobody asked me to gain the weight. I just saw Irv as being a bit of a rolling ball, full of momentum.”
Why does he play “nut-jobs” for David O. Russell? “We both love them, and I love the ideas he comes up with, and he seems to enjoy mine. We have a very humorous and at times poignant relationship. We can knock each other senseless–not physically, metaphorically–and still want to get up and give each other a hug at the end of the day. We can disagree in a way that two people who respect each other can. And when it feels like a true partnership, you do. I never had brothers. I grew up with women around me always, but what I saw of friends of mine who had brothers–man, they could have the worst fallings-out, but they were always right there for each other. Sometimes I’m calling him crazy, and sometimes he’s calling me crazy, but it’s never a straight and easy path that leads to good shit. I almost talked myself out of American Hustle.”
On pulling his “finger out of his ass” and taking the role: “I like doing whatever I’m doing, you know? I’d like to never work again if I could–who wouldn’t? But once I start working, or most of the time, anyway–there have been exceptions, believe me–I think, ‘Oh, right, now I remember what I like about this.’”
On picking a role: “It’s all over the map for me, to be honest. I’d say inconsistency is something I enjoy. But sometimes it’s the character, sometimes it’s the director, sometimes it’s the script, and sometimes–holy sh-t–it’s all three! And sometimes you just want or need to work, you know? Looking back over the films I’ve made, it’s been every reason under the sun for doing them.”
What role is closest to his own identity? “I’d be the worst person to tell you that. I barely know what color my own eyes are. I get kind of blind when I’m looking at characters. Other people point it out, and I go, ‘No, no, that’s a character, there’s nothing of me.’ But of course there always is. The idea is to bring nothing of yourself, but it’s probably impossible. I stay awake at night worrying about it.”
On the business of Hollywood: “I’m a f—ing awful businessman. I got no idea how to sell a film. I don’t know why people want to see certain films. But it’s a strange brew, you know, because I don’t feel like an artist or anything–there’s way too much business involved in this whole thing for that. But equally there’s way too much creativity for this to be like any normal business.”
On Ben Affleck’s Batman backlash: “Somebody pointed it out to me. Look, there’s no middle ground on the Internet. It’s just extreme feelings. They love you or abhor you. Ben knows that, and I doubt if he spent one minute worrying about it.”

Someone’s had some press coaching, right? He’s a lot nicer (and a lot less “smartass”) in this interview than he has been in the past. I have a feeling Christian would be a lot happer if he could act in a vacuum — lose and gain weight for his all-out roles and win peer-based awards but not worry about selling films to the general public. That’s not how it works, obviously, and especially when he signs up for blockbusters like his Batman movies. Bale is a magnifent actor, I’ll give him that. Despite all of his gimmicky weight tricks, he always brings a character to life.

Stepping out for another day of filming, Christian Bale showed up on the set of his new film "Exodus" in the desert of Tabernas in Almeria, Spain on Tuesday (October 22).
The "Dark Knight" star wore a blue robe and sandals as he got into character while enduring the hot temperatures.
Per the synopsis, "Exodus" is "a retelling of the story of Moses, from his near death as an infant to his adoption into the Egyptian royal family, his defiance of the Pharaoh and deliverance of the Hebrews from enslavement."
Along with Mr. Bale, Aaron Paul, Sigourney Weaver, and Joel Edgerton are set to appear in the film. "Exodus" is slated to hit theaters December 12, 2014.

You can stop holding out hope that studios would roundup enough money to convince Christian Bale to come back as Batman for theJustice League movie because he says unequivocally that he’s done with Batman. Hey, Michael Keaton is waving his hands around for some reason. Wonder what that guy wants?
Then Man of Steel and Dark Knight screenwriter David S. Goyer confirmed that the Justice League?s Batman would be a rebooted character. So that pretty much closed the book.
Still, with news like this, sometimes you just have to hear it from the man himself.
?We were incredibly fortunate to get to make three [Batman films]. That?s enough. Let?s not get greedy,? says Bale, who called EW to promote his upcoming revenge drama Out of the Furnace (in theaters Nov. 27). ?Chris [Nolan] always said he wanted to make it one film at a time. And we ended up sitting there looking at each other, saying ?We?re about to make the third.? We never really knew if we were going to get to be there, but if that was how it was going to be, this was where it should end as well.? EW
I’d imagine anyone would be tired of playing the same character for half a decade unless you’re Robert Downey Jr. of course. That man is just happy to be acting. That $50 million they threw at him didn’t hurt either.
