Charlize Theron covers the December issue of Vogue Magazine to promote her new film, Young Adult. This film is a total break from the epic depression-fest films Charlize usually makes. Young Adult was written by Diablo Cody and directed by Jason Reitman, reuniting for the first time since Juno. I?ve included the trailer at the end of the post - I think it looks really good, honestly. Anyway, I usually find Charlize?s interviews pretty boring, just because she?s not a scandalous person or a famewhore or anything, but she does do some opening up. You can read the full piece here, at Vogue, and here are some highlights:
Winning her Oscar: ?The Golden Frog, you?re talking about?? Theron asks coyly. Winning the Oscar was ?amazing,? she says. The night she was up for it, in a shimmering Gucci dress, she felt ?like a princess.? At the last second, Diane Lane switched her seat so Theron?s mother, Gerda, could be next to her when the envelope was opened. ?It was life-changing?it opened a lot of doors,? says Theron, who was nominated again for 2005?s North Country. ?But it made people have a lot of opinions about what should happen next. You realize quickly that you can never please everybody.?
Young Adult: Theron plays Mavis Gary, a lonely, binge-drinking writer of serial teen romances who makes an awkward return to her Minnesota hometown, trying to win back her married high school boyfriend, Buddy Slade (played by Patrick Wilson). Mavis is a hot mess?icy and self-absorbed on the surface, but reeling underneath.
Working again after taking a break: Young Adult is Theron?s first major movie role in three years, and in the middle of filming she had a revelation. ?I realized how much I love what I do,? she says. ?I really, really missed it. Like around week three, I had this horrible, sappy moment where I got a little overwhelmed. It was just a really great f–king experience.?
The Stuart Townsend breakup: ?I?d gotten out of a relationship, and I was in this really floaty place. My feet weren?t touching the ground. I just kind of turned to [Reitman] and was like, ?I feel like me again.?? The relationship, of course, was Theron?s longtime partnership with the Irish actor Stuart Townsend, whom she dated for almost ten years. When the pairing began to falter, Theron says, she was desperate to save it; acting took a backseat. ?It was sinking, and I had to give it a fight,? she says. ?I really wanted to try and make it work. That was the priority. I wouldn?t do it any different way.?
Being a single girl: As we meet, Theron is single?a foreign experience. ?I?ve never been single,? she says. ?This is the first time in my life. From the time I was nineteen, I?ve been in relationships, literally gone from one to the other within a month. It?s been good for me. I?m a creature who?s really found her comfort zone in relationships. It?s been nice to rediscover myself,? Theron says. ?I had to make a real conscious effort to do it?it?s hard. It?s much easier to lose yourself in flowers and cigarettes and coffee with somebody else.?
She quit smoking: Theron quit smoking a while ago but refuses to go into detail of how she did it, not wanting to jinx it. ?I was highly addicted,? she confesses. ?I thought, I don?t smoke like normal people. I smoke to die.?
On Kristen Stewart and Snow White and the Huntsman: Theron plays Ravenna, the Evil Queen hell-bent on destroying the princess played by Kristen Stewart, the brooding Twilight comet endlessly chronicled in celebrity weeklies. ?She just turned 21,? Theron says of Stewart. ?She?s a child. When I think about myself at 21, I had just done The Devil?s Advocate, and Keanu [Reeves] had paparazzi following him and Al Pacino said this thing to me: ?If I knew that my life would be under this kind of scrutiny, I would have never become an actor.??And I thought, Wow. I couldn?t comprehend it. And Kristen is just living this to the max and still has a sense of humor about it. There?s this really lovely quality about her that just doesn?t give a f–k. A lot of people say they don?t, but then they go home and cry and pop a Xanax. Kristen actually doesn?t give a f–k. That?s what?s so refreshing about her. I?m looking forward to killing her and taking her beauty,? Theron says. ?That?s what happens, right??
Paparazzi and fame: ?Some people are really into that world, of being photographed, being at the party, being with the guy, being in the Bentley,? she says. ?Good for them, because it?s so entertaining to watch. It?s just not me.?
She wants kids: ?I do want to have kids, yeah,? she says. ?I always have. I?ve never had a rush for it, a moment where I really wanted to do it. I don?t have a panic about it.? Lots of kids? ?I don?t think about the amount so much. You have to be aware of what you can give. I don?t know where I?m going to be in five years. I might be in a place where I?m like, ?Yeah! Six!?? Theron laughs. ?I don?t think it will ever be that,? she says.

I bet she still gets high, don?t you? I bet she quit smoking cigarettes but she still smokes pot. She seems all chilled out, like an aging hippie pothead. As for her breakup with Stuart Townsend, that still upsets me. They were together for so long! And he?s so cute and Irish! That just shows me that you can spend 10 years bangin? some hot Irish dong, and you can still have relationship problems. That?s something that Michael Fassbender and I will have to discuss.

Stepping out for a special occasion, Charlize Theron attended the ?Reach: 24 Portraits by Randall Slavin? lecture on Wednesday (October 12).
The ?Bubble Boy? bombshell looked stunning in a designer frock and heels as she posed for pictures at the Annenberg Space for Photography in Los Angeles, CA ahead of the event.
As for the fundraiser, it benefited the Charlize Theron Africa Outreach Project, which helps to reduce HIV/AIDS and sexual violence among African youth.
The lecturer?s ?Reach? collection featured unseen portraits of iconic names like Clint Eastwood, Kobe Bryant, Bill Clinton and Eddie Vedder.

Stepping out for a swanky shindig, Charlize Theron was spotted at the HTC Serves Up NYC event last night (September 20).
The ?Italian Job? cutie donned a gorgeous green dress as she posed for the paparazzi outside the Big Apple affair.
As for her new J?adore Dior fragrance advertisement, Charlize gets to mingle with some of Hollywood?s bygone icons.
The spot shows Theron mingling with Grace Kelly, Marlene Dietrich, and Marilyn Monroe through the miracle of modern technology.

Charlize Theron and Leighton Meester were the two big celebrity ?gets? at last night?s ?HTC Serves Up NYC Product Launch? event. Charlize looks really weird to me, but I think I?m just being thrown off by the full skirt and the lack of high heels. Allegedly, the green dress is Chloe? and I don?t like it much. Charlize is famous for her amazing legs, so why is she wearing a full-skirted dress that makes her legs look like little toothpicks? The cut and the style is not flattering. That being said, I love the color on her.
Meanwhile, Leighton wore Leighton wore a dress from the Marios Schwab Resort 2012 Collection and Burberry shoes. Um? the outfit is fine, it?s kind of boring, but meh. BUT THE SHOES. Dear God. Those look like some 1970s craft project, all wood beads and bad colors. And don?t get me started on the bangs.
Getting back to Charlize for a moment - have you seen her latest Dior commercial? It?s the one where Dior puts Charlize in the same company as Marilyn Monroe, Marlene Dietrich and Grace Kelly. WTF?

She's always a radiant beam of beauty, and Charlize Theron is featured in a brand new ad campaign for fashion giant Dior.
This month, Dior released a new ad for their latest J?adore perfume which features the ?Astro Boy? actress along with Hollywood icons such as Grace Kelly, Marilyn Monroe and Marlene Dietrich.
No stranger to being the face for Dior, Theron spoke fondly of her experience while filming the ultra-chic commercial.
She told The Hollywood Reporter, ?It was incredibly glamorous and fantastic. I don?t think I?ll experience something like that again in my lifetime.?

Stepping out for a special occasion, Charlize Theron attended the GQ Men of the Year Awards in London, England on Tuesday (September 6).
The ?Astro Boy? babe looked lovely in high-waisted pants and a lavender top as she smiled for pictures before heading inside the Royal Opera House venue.
The UK outing comes just after a poster for the upcoming dramedy called ?Young Adult? - which stars Theron - was released.
Theron plays an alcoholic writer of young-adult novels who, on a whim, decides to return to the small town that she left behind years ago to aggressively pursue her ex-boyfriend from high school, but quickly discovers that he is happily married and the father of a young child. This leads her to another high school classmate, and in turn causes some trouble.
"Young Adult" hits theaters on December 9.

Charlize Theron has babies on the brain. In an interview with In Touch, Charlize says, “I want a baby. If it would happen tomorrow I would still be very happy about it.”
She’s even considering adopting. “Why not?,” she asks, “I’m open to everything in life.” Much like her legs. Amirite? Guys? Because she wants a baby, you see. Not because she’s a whore.
Anyway, if Charlize wants a guy to put a baby in her now, I’m the man willing to do it. You can call me a hero, a champion, a god among men, but I much prefer you call me a cab. I gotta get outta here before Charlize wakes up.

Did you know that there?s a German edition of In Touch Weekly? I didn?t. Well, Charlize gave an interview to the German edition (I guess??) and Charlize talks BABIES. She?s talked about babies before, of course. Back in 2009, when she was with Stuart Townsend, she said: ?I?ve always known that I wanted to be a mom. I love children. I?ve always loved children. But I?m not like, ?Oh my god, I really must have kids right now.? I?ve never felt this pressing urge that some biological clock is ticking. We both want to be parents one day, but I?ve no idea when that will be.? And then when Charlize had her little thing with Ryan Reynolds - what it was, it only lasted a month or two - the rumor going around was that Charlize was all ?I WANT BABIES? and Ryan was all ?Um, we?ve only been dating for a hot minute.? Some of you didn?t believe that version of events, but this new interview with Charlize definitely shows that she?s got babies on the brain:

The 36-year-old South African ended her nine-year relationship with Irish actor Stuart Townsend in 2010. She dated Ryan Reynolds earlier this summer, before that romance fizzled out ? leaving Charlize single again.
But she has no problem adopting and raising her baby as a single mom, adding, ?Why not? I?m open to everything in life.?

So? that doesn?t make it sound like she?s actively seeking out a baby, like she?s already started the adoption process or she?s looking for donors or something. It just sounds more like, ?I?d really like a baby, that would be nice. And a Caesar salad, thank you. How does one go about acquiring those things?? But if Charlize wants to be a mom, more power to her. I hope it happens for her.
Oh, and I thought she was pregnant back in June, but I now think it was just a bad dress.

Treating herself to some delicious eats, Charlize Theron was spotted at Nobu Berkley in London, England last night (August 23).
Sporting some black-framed spectacles, navy jacket, black top, and jeans, the ?Italian Job? actress relied on the help of a bodyguard to make it back to her car.
And it sounds like Charlize?s new flick ?Snow White and the Huntsman? has begun pre-production construction.
An insider told press, "The crew has started to construct some fantastic sets on the Studios' backlot, as well as on some of its world famous stages."
ANd Pinewood Group Corporate Affairs Director Andrew Smith added, "We're delighted to be hosting Universal once again for its latest project, 'Snow White and the Hunstman.' The sets and costumes look fantastic, and I am continually struck by the talented and skilled craftsmen and women currently working in the UK film industry."
