Kate Beckinsale is trying to bring back old fashioned bloomers.
The 37-year-old was snapped wearing the 1850s-inspired baggy knickers while out shopping in Santa Monica with her husband Len Wiseman.
Even in the 1850s the underwear failed to become commonly accepted but had a brief stint in style in the 1920s, when they were worn short and resembled baggy knee-length gym shorts.
Beckinsale finished off the fashion disaster with black leather cowboy boots and an old fashioned frilly pinafore.
The couple had been shopping at Fred Segal in Los Angeles, so hopefully her husband helped her pick a better outfit to change into.

Never one to skip out on weekend family time, Kate Beckinsale joined her husband Len Wiseman and daughter Lily Mo Sheen for a fun-filled Santa Monica outing on Saturday (September 25).
The "Underworld" actress looked casual cute as she and her loved ones visited some friends - during which time Kate and a pack of kiddies proudly stuck their tongues out at the paparazzi.
The family excursion comes just days after Miss Beckinsale was officially confirmed as returning for a fourth installment of "Underworld".
Reprising her role as the vampire "Selene," the movie will begin shooting in March 2011 with a release date set for January 2012.

Enjoying her leisurely weekend, Kate Beckinsale was spotted out and about in Santa Monica yesterday afternoon (September 19).
The ?Serendipity? actress looked cute and casual in a grey sweater with a white top, black trousers, and black boots as she strolled past the paparazzi.
On Saturday (September 18), Kate made her way over to the Westwood neighborhood to pay a visit to a foot clinic.
And in career news, Ms. Beckinsale has reportedly signed on to star in the upcoming remake ?Contraband? along with Mark Wahlberg. The film is about a reformed criminal who is tempted back into a life of crime due to money troubles.

Opting to spend the holiday weekend south of the border, a bikini-clad Kate Beckinsale and family were spotted living it up in Mexico over the past few days.
Joined by husband Len Wiseman and daughter Lily Mo Sheen, the "Underworld" actress split time between the pool and the shoreline - where she and her family busily constructed sand castles while soaking up the sun.
Having been taking a light workload while focusing on motherhood, Kate is readying to take part in the fourth installment of "Underworld" - which has been announced with a January 2012 release date.
Of the film, screenwriter John Hlavin boasted, "It will satisfy old fans and excite new audiences, meaning that we don't want to redo the first three movies, so steps are being taken to honor what fans have loved but at the same time introduce fresh elements."

According to a report, Kate will play a smaller role in the forthcoming movie, slated for a January 20th, 2012 release date.
