The CMA Awards were held last night, hosted by Brad Paisley and Carrie Underwood for literally the tenth time in a row. I’m not going to act like any of us watched it. The Washington Post has a rundown of the best moments and performances along with the winners if you’d like more of an overview of the show. Pink performed, the female and male vocalist of the year awards went to Miranda Lambert and Chris Stapleton respectively, with Stapleton taking album of the year as well. Garth Brooks was the entertainer of the year. Single of the year went to Keith Urban for “Blue Ain?t Your Color” and song of the year (don’t ask me the difference) was awarded to Taylor Swift for the song she wrote for Little Big Town, “Better Man.” (Taylor was in NY rehearsing for SNL/filling out her burn book and did not make it to the ceremony.) We’re just going to talk about what the attendees wore. While I still enjoy looking at red carpet gowns it rings somewhat hollow as we’re hearing so many stories about Hollywood men being horrible predators.
We all need a little superficiality at times though, so let’s look at Carrie Underwood in a Fouad Sarkis Couture gown that Sofia Vergara is so jealous she didn’t wear first. It’s an off the shoulder mermaid dress with got ruffles along the bustline and down the sleeves and it’s very low cut but look there’s a little nude fabric sewn in the deep v-neck to ensure there are no wardrobe malfunctions. I do like the color and at least Carrie didn’t go big with her hair too right? Baby steps.
Also it’s cool that her husband, hockey player Mike Fisher, came too. He doesn’t always show up to her stuff so that was nice.
My girl Michelle Monaghan was one of the only women in pants. She was wearing a black sequin Paco Rabanne jumpsuit and holy crap she looks amazing. The whole side of that thing is open though, go here to see. It also has stirrups! If I had her figure I would wear the hell out of that.
In contrast Kelsea Ballerini chose this awful white cutout Michael Kors Collection dress with gold floral accents. I’m looking at these pictures and grimacing this is so bad.
Pink! I don’t know who did this voluminous tulle gown but it reminds me of Kesha’s Monsoori gown from earlier this year or the Christian Siriano gown that Kasey Musgraves wore to the CMAs last year. Unlike those other ladies, I think Pink is pulling this off with attitude.
Kelly Pickler was in metallic and green feathered Pamella Roland. This is a little too fussy for my taste but she looks like she’s having fun.
This is what thirst looks like. Lea Michele in Zuhair Murad. Maybe if she paired this mini dress with tights like it was styled on the runway it would be slightly better.
Miranda Lambert was in a baby blue Tony Ward gown with a silver firework pattern. This gown is gorgeous and I love the simple metallic belt. It would be cute if it was opaque all over though and not strategically see through.
Faith Hill was in Armani Prive and I feel like she needs to put her hair down because this gown is making her look very elongated, I’ll say that. Over at redcarpet fashion awards they said the same thing, but I swear I thought of it independently. She and Tim McGraw are looking kind of preserved, but maybe that’s just all the makeup. I like that he went with a velvet jacket. Some dudes can pull off velvet jackets.
I’m including Karlie Kloss at the end because she just ran the NYC Marathon! Go Karlie! That slinky red Elie Saab is perfection.

| Carrie Underwood: exercise can be 'running around after my kid' | Added 7 years ago | Source: CeleBitchy |

Carrie Underwood has a fitness line, Calia, available in stores and so she usually fields questions about her workout routine. She’s like Kate Hudson in that she’s incredibly toned and fit and people want to know her “secret.” Usually she’s quite upfront that she works out hard every day and does specific targeted exercises, but in this interview she downplays how much she exercises, which is somewhat disappointing. In context and not just as a sound bite it’s not that bad though. When Carrie says she “runs around after her kid” she literally means that she runs with her kid in a stroller, she’s not saying that chasing her kid around the house is all she does in a day. She also talks about carving out 20 minutes here and there for exercise and not beating herself up if she doesn’t have more time.
?It just happens if and when it happens,? Underwood, 34, told PEOPLE of her new approach to working out at the CALIA by Carrie Underwood Summer Kick-Off event in Malibu on Friday. ?I?ve gotten a lot better at doing what I can when I can, but also cutting myself a little slack. You have to!?
That means squeezing in a workout when it?s doable.
?Now it?s like, ?Okay, I have 20 minutes. What can I do in 20 minutes?’? she says. ?I can go run for a little while, I can go do some tabata rounds, I can do something. Sometimes I?m like, my workout today is going be running around after my kid. If we?re going to go to the park, why not run there and push him in the stroller? Then I get a good cardio session to and from, and then he gets to play, so everybody wins.?
If she does have a little more free time, she?ll do a full tabata workout.
?I ?play cards? a lot ? I assign different exercises to each suit, and I sit down at breakfast and plan out what each suit?s going to be,? she says.
Her other go-to activities are running and group exercise classes, like Barry?s Bootcamp.
?I love just putting headphones in and going for a run,? says Underwood. ?I feel so good when I get home, especially when it?s hot. I?m one of those weirdos that likes to run when it?s super hot outside! Or classes. I find myself competing with other people in the room. I?m like, ?Oh she?s good, I want to be like her!? I try to ?beat? someone in the class. They have no idea we?re competing!?
[From People]
I doubt she does just 20 minutes in a day unless she’s doing 20 minutes three or more times a day, but that’s minor. She busts her butt to look like that and it shows. In my bootcamp class we did that card trick she mentioned by assigning different exercises to each suit where you would have to do both the exercise for the suit and the number of reps on the card. So if you got a jack of spades for instance that might mean 11 burpees. (I hate burpees so I didn’t last long in that bootcamp class.) Also, in terms of what she mentioned about “beating” the people in class I get energy from friends in my group fitness classes but I never think “I’m going to beat that person,” I just try to get the moves perfect and to focus on mirroring the instructor. There’s always room for improvement and it keeps me thinking about something while I’m working out. I think of it like we’re all a team, honestly. It’s not surprising that Carrie Underwood is competing in her mind with the other people in the class though.

| Carrie Underwood in Ellie Madi at the Grammys: too fussy or decent? | Added 7 years ago | Source: CeleBitchy |

This is a post dedicated to some of the women in red at the Grammys last night, with bonus Celine Dion. First off we have Carrie Underwood in Ellie Madi. This is standard issue Carrie Underwood, fussy, sparkly, too many details, but I have to say I like her styling. Plus the bell sleeves on this gown are cool, they add some much-needed interest to the dress. Imagine this dress in a solid fabric without all the panels, lace and sequins or with just fabric plus the sequin bands. It would be a very cool silhouette. She paired it with gold platform heels (why?) but I like her styling. It’s like she showed restraint there, or maybe she has better people now. Carrie performed “The Fighter” with Keith Urban last night and it was kind of forgettable.
Faith Hill was in Zuhair Murad and I thought this look was incredible. The dress originally came with a wide sash belt and it was a good idea to go without it. Her styling and accessories complement this perfectly and she didn’t even bother to change for her presenting gig, which was smart because she didn’t need to.
Also in Zuhair Murad we have Celine Dion and I love Celine but her fashion veers toward wacky often. This is so 80s with the poofy sleeves, big belt, side ruffle and wavy sequin lines.
Thankfully Celine changed into a black Thierry Mugler gown for presenting. With this second look her jewelry was the real star. This velvet gown is gorgeous and I love the cut and the ring at the shoulder but I couldn’t stop staring at her earrings, bracelet and ring.

Getting back to the ladies in red we have Mya in Styland. There’s something so fun about this and I like that she went with a pantsuit. It looks both comfortable and stylish.
Charli XCX was in a red Vivienne Westwood gown which seems too serious for the Grammys. It’s a cool-looking dress, it’s very Jessica Rabbit and vampy, it just would be better suited to a more formal awards ceremony.
So Charli made up for her very staid formal gown by wearing a Moschino bikini-printed dress to the after party. No.

| Carrie Underwood in pink Iris Serban at the Golden Globes: fussy or pretty? | Added 7 years ago | Source: CeleBitchy |

Presenter Carrie Underwood managed to look different than just about every other woman on the red carpet last night in this Pink Iris Serban gown with cut out sides and tightly folded flowers along the neckline. Look at her shoulders this makes her look like a linebacker. (Not her build, just the dress, it has like floral armor.) I will say something nice which I mentioned in the post on Drew Barrymore – Carrie’s default is to wear a lot of makeup, but somehow it works on her.
Connie Britton was also in pink, in a Georges Hobeika gown with one cap sleeve. I don’t think I’ve ever seen that feature on a dress before, it’s like the designers are straining to be unique. It surely exists on another dress, it’s just new to me. I do like the dripping floral sequin pattern on the top. That’s beautiful.
Here’s poor Keri Russell, nominated for best actress in a drama, which went to Claire Foy. I hope that The Americans racks up some awards finally. It seems underappreciated for how good a show it is. Keri was in a sad leopard print J. Mendel gown which was just wrong from start to tiered ruffle finish.
Check out the back of Keri’s dress, even the built-in cape is tiered. Why?!

| Carrie Underwood on hosting CMAs: 'I prefer to stay away from politics' | Added 8 years ago | Source: CeleBitchy |

|
|
Is it necessary at this point to announce that Carrie Underwood and Brad Paisley are hosting the Country Music Association Awards? This is their ninth year hosting and not only do people love them together on stage, they have fallen into a comfortable groove with each other that allows for their one-liners and song parodies to usually hit their mark. The pressure is on, however, because this year is a pretty big year for the CMA Awards. Not only is it their 50th anniversary but, just six days after the CMA Awards take place on November 2, we elect a new President of the United States. Country music has many artists and fans who identify as conservative. So hosting duties could be tricky when taking on the current political climate. How does Carrie plan to approach this dilemma? She doesn?t. Carrie is opting to simply leave politics out of it.
Carrie Underwood is set to co-host the 2016 CMA Awards with Brad Paisley for the ninth consecutive year on Nov. 2. This year?s celebration marks 50 years of the awards show, and while the hosts are likely planning a banner opening monologue, the ?Dirty Laundry? singer insists politics is one topic she won?t be tackling.
?I prefer to stay away from politics,? Underwood told journalists at a recent press event, according to the Boot. ?This is country music, and we have 50 years to cover. So I feel like we?ll have lots to talk about, but I think it will be more geared to just us and what we do and all these legends that we have and people that have incredible talent that we have in our genre.?
[From Fox News]
It?s a safe answer but it’s also true. Carrie and Brad have been topical in their openings but generally politics only get a passing mention. Given this particularly contentious election, I am sure Carrie is thanking her lucky starts that this happens to be the 50th anniversary so they can stay the hell away from anything political. Instead, Carrie is focusing on highlighting the last 50 years of country music and pulling out all the stops – all of which are a big secret, of course. The event will be so big, Brad claims he will wear a tux. Since I have never seen Brad in anything but jeans, as Carrie said, ?We?ll see.? Many performers to the CMA Awards already and are expected to add many more. It should be a great show.
Like most of you, the election has taken its toll on me. Election years are usually my favorite but I need a break from this one. So if Carrie is telling me that I can watch the CMA Awards and be spared any political rhetoric for the evening, I may just watch them.
But just to clarify, Brad and Carrie walk the political tightrope but I doubt they will leave them out entirely:

| Carrie Underwood in Gauri & Nainika at Country Countdown Awards: bizarre? | Added 8 years ago | Source: CeleBitchy |

There were a couple of music awards shows this weekend, both the American Country Countdown Awards, which aired on Fox, and The Radio Disney Music Awards, which were on Disney. The American Country Countdown Awards are based on record sales, so the big winners were popular artists like Luke Bryan, Carrie Underwood and Chris Stapleton. The breakthrough awards went to Sam Hunt and Kelsea Ballerini. You can see a full list of winners on People.com. Matthew McConaughey and Terry Crews were among the presenters.
Carrie Underwood wore this white and watercolor print Gauri & Nainika “bridal illusion gown” on the red carpet. Of course she had a bunch of other costume changes during the ceremony, some more fug than others. I don’t know whether to admire or make fun of this gown (above). There’s a gazelle on the bodice, some kind of abstract pattern on the tulle, and the tiered skirt is huge. It’s both weird and pretty at the same time. I do like her styling, I’ve noticed the wavy lob is popular lately. If you find this dress bizarre, wait until you see her performance outfit:

The gladiator shoes just make that outfit, right? I believe this Star Trek school girl dress is Rocky Gathercole. That’s what she wore to perform “Church Bells,” and you can see that video on JustJared.
And she wore this dress too, it’s like art deco meets disco. At least they could have made the colors complementary. (Update: this dress, and the orange and green one she’s wearing below, are both by Elie Madi.)

Here are some other attendees including Jennifer Nettles in a silver striped Genny suit, Jana Kramer in a blush Hayley Paige bedazzled romper, and Kelsea Ballerini in a Pink and floral applique Georges Hobeika gown. They’re all rather fug, with the exception of Nettles’ suit. Oh and Carrie wore yet another weird dress in the press room because of course she did.

| Carrie Underwood in Nicolas Jebran at the Grammys: elegant or prom fug? | Added 8 years ago | Source: CeleBitchy |

|
|
Carrie Underwood was one of the first celebrities on the red carpet at The Grammys and she was nothing if not predictable. Carrie was in a strapless black Nicolas Jebran gown with a high slit and a bow on the side. This is some prom level fug, as Kaiser put it to me. Carrie usually goes for big gowns and this was no exception. She’s ditched the big hair, although this slicked back look isn’t much better. Giuliana Rancic was crowing that she had the same hairstyle, which has been inexplicably popular lately. Carrie had better hair on Talking Dead Sunday night. Oh and she said the necklace was a Valentine’s gift. If she wasn’t joking then damn that must have cost a fortune.
Carrie performed a mashup of Take your Time and Heartbeat with Sam Hunt (you can see a clip here). It was the second performance of the night and one of way too many slow songs. I mean the performances were incredible but I wanted more high energy numbers and dancing. Show me dancing and sets! We didn’t get a choreographed number until Kendrick Lamar performed nearly two hours in. (Yes there was Hamilton too.) Some people are comparing Carrie and Sam’s performance to Grease, but again there was no dancing so I’m not seeing it.

Zendaya was in this Dsquared2 black power suit but everyone is talking about her mullet wig. I like the choice of a suit, but given how high she’s set the fashion bar this is somewhat of a letdown from her. She towered over Ryan Seacrest on the red carpet, which makes me wonder what kind of shoes she’s wearing under there. They look like platforms. She’s a chameleon with her looks that’s for sure.
Elle King looks just like my neighbor. I think they have a similar kind of cherubic face, or maybe they’re both drunk all the time, six to one. She was wearing black lace and fringe Christian Siriano. At least this dress is one solid color but it looks too busy. Fringe and lace do not belong together. Plus there are feathers! It’s like an art project. Those shoes are all wrong too.
Tove Lo, also in black, was in a terrible lingerie look Malene Birger gown. I think I actually owned a cheap nightie cami like this at some point. On every level this is bad and it’s even got a see through skirt. Look at her styling. She has pink-orange eyeshadow and nude lips. It looks like she’s ill. Tove’s nosering is Givenchy, if it matters. This is even worse than the same one-note look Tove wore to the AMAs.

| Carrie Underwood on love songs: 'It's doesn't have to be all Romeo & Juliet' | Added 9 years ago | Source: CeleBitchy |
|
|
|
|
|
Note by Kaiser: Here are some photos of Carrie Underwood on the red carpet at last night’s AMAs. Her sparkly, caped gown was Yas Couture by Elie Madi. Pretty, right?
American Idol alum and voice of the Sunday Night Football theme song on NBC (which always perks my boyfriend up), Carrie Underwood, chatted with E! in advance of last night’s American Music Awards performance (of her new single, “Heartbeat”, which you can see here). The 32 year-old singer, who won the award for Favorite Female Country singer, talked about life possibly not imitating art as far as romance is concerned, life as a Mom and her dream duet. Carrie, married to Nashville Predators player Mike Fisher, can write a hell of a song about revenge (“Before He Cheats”) and a song that makes this non-smoker want to light one up (Smoke Break”), but she claims writing romantic songs like “Heartbeat” is truly a challenge.
It’s a lot coming from me. I don’t do romance very well, at least not in my music. But I felt like when we were writing it, it was just so genuine and I think that’s one of my problems with love songs. It’s all like fairy tales and bubblegum and butterflies. That’s just not reality. I felt like as we were writing it, it was so conversational and this is my life. This is me and my husband just needing to be alone. It doesn’t have to be all presents and Romeo and Juliet. It can be simple and lovely.
[From E! News]
(Note by Kaiser: that line about Romeo & Juliet was Taylor Swift shade, correct?)
Carrie went on to say that she and Mike are definitely out of the “honeymoon phase” of their marriage, since their 9 month old son Isaiah has become the center of attention, with Carrie describing him as a “squirmy kid.” And, come on, nothing says romance like “poopy diapers”, right?
As for Carrie’s dream duet, anyone who saw her faithful cover of Guns ‘n’ Roses’ “Paradise City” at 2013?s CMA Music Festival would not be surprised that she’d love to share the stage with Axl Rose, admitting “people like him [who] taught me how to sing. They were so different. I look at people like him and Freddie Mercury, those people who were doing all these crazy runs. It was so different.”
Of course, since Carrie and Brad Paisley made a few jokes at the expense of Blake Shelton at the recent CMA Awards, when asked what she thought of the pairing of Blake and Gwen Stefani, Carrie (who counts Blake’s ex, Miranda Lambert, as a friend) diplomatically said, “I have not seen them together yet. You just hope everybody’s happy or will be happy.”

|
Carrie Underwood covers the new issue of Shape. It’s been almost eight months since she had her first child, son Isaiah, with her husband of five years, Mike Fisher. Carrie is promoting her athletic wear line with Dick’s Sporting Goods called Calia, which is meant to be cute enough to wear outside the gym. (Sidenote: I checked out the line at Dick’s and it’s very feminine and not my style. Also, I shower and change back into my street clothes after I work out. I know it’s socially acceptable in the US to run errands in your workout gear but I can’t bring myself to do this.) Carrie is talking about her weight loss post baby. She snapped back quickly because she limited her weight gain during pregnancy to 30 pounds and works out frequently. She’s pretty meticulous about her diet, too, judging from her past interviews. Here’s some of what she told Shape:
On working out. “I will take any type of workout I can get, whenever I can get it. For me, it?s the key to being happy and healthy. Though it?s difficult to find spare time these days.”
Make 30 minutes the magic number. “After I had Isaiah, my goal was to take control of my body again. I was lucky: I gained only 30 pounds, which is the recommended amount, and I exercised throughout my pregnancy. I did have a C-section, which meant waiting six weeks before working out. Within 10 days, though, I was able to begin walking slowly on the treadmill and around my neighborhood. It felt so good to be active! When I got the OK from my doctor, I started exercising with my trainer. Now we box and we hike trails, among other things. I like to continually mix up my routines to stay motivated. But my favorite workout is Tabata, which I can do at home in about a half hour. I?m in love with it! It?s hard, but it really works. I choose seven different exercises, like squats, lunges, or push- ups, and do eight rounds of each?20 seconds on, 20 seconds off for eight rounds. It really revs up my metabolism. When I?m done, I can handle anything.”
Get your workout wear to pull double duty. “Since I exercise almost every day, I like wearing clothes that look just as good on the street as they do at the gym. I’ve always been an athletic-wear fanatic, but everything I owned was either super-functional and not cute, or really frilly and not right for my workout. I need exercise clothing that I can actually work out in but that also looks great if I meet a friend for coffee afterward. That’s why I created Calia with Dick’s Sporting Goods. And now I wear it everywhere.”
Flatten your belly overnight. “I’m vegan and I love bread, but recently, I started making dinner a breadless meal. I’ll have a bowl of oatmeal for breakfast, and I’ll make a sandwich on Ezekiel bread for lunch, but in the evening I’ll have protein and vegetables and no bread. When I wake up, my belly is flat!”
Find your chill time. “I think it’s so important to sit quietly every day for 10 minutes. In the morning, I enjoy my cup of coffee and plan the day in my head to be ready for it. And sometimes at night, I sip a glass of red wine and just relax. I’ve learned to give myself a break.”
[From Shape]
Carrie makes a lot of good points here except for claiming that skipping bread gives her a flat stomach. (To be fair to her, Shape added the “flatten your belly overnight” claim, she didn’t say that.) There’s no magic food to avoid to lose weight; it’s calories. You can eat bread, ice cream, pizza, etc. in moderation and still lose or maintain weight if you eat less calories than you burn. People make it complicated by ascribing to different bits of folk wisdom including avoiding entire food groups like meat, dairy or gluten. In truth no one needs to avoid those things unless they’re sensitive to them. It’s possible that bread makes her bloated though, if that’s what she means. Plus she’s not advocating eliminating gluten for no reason, that’s just a pet peeve of mine.
As Kaiser covered yesterday, Carrie also covers this week’s People Magazine. In People, Carrie admits that she tried diet supplements with ephedra in them. That must have been before they were banned in 2004. She said “It wasn’t the best way. If I could go back and talk to myself I’d be like, ‘Here’s how you do it the right way.‘” I tried a diet pill with ephedra and caffeine in the late 90s when it was still legal. I think I lasted on it two days because it made me feel sweaty and nervous.
