Paris Hilton told the cop she stupidly (or deliberately, more on that in a moment) asked to hold her purse that it was borrowed from a friend after the cocaine dropped out. She later changed her story, by way of a “source” that told TMZ that Paris lent the purse to a friend, who put the coke in it and returned it with the drugs still in it, “setting her up.” The sleuths at Radar Online went through Paris’ Twitter account and found a picture of the bedazzled Chanel purse in question that she proudly tweeted six weeks ago, bragging about her purchase “Love My New Chanel Purse I got Today. ” They also found photos of her toting it in July in St. Tropez. So I guess that story that the purse was someone elses has fallen through. No wonder she tried to switch it up.
There’s suspicion that Paris Hilton set up the whole cocaine bust in an attempt to earn some headlines to compete with Lindsay’s incarceration. After all, she put the damn purse in the cop’s hands before the coke fell out. I don’t give her that much credit. I think that she just forgot the coke was in there and expected the policeman to act as her valet. It’s just a coincidence that she had her hair expertly styled with perfect makeup on before her mug shot was taken. She was in Vegas partying with her boyfriend and she usually looks put together like that. Here’s In Touch’s take on this story. They note that it’s the most attention Paris has received in years:
Though she probably could have avoided interaction with the police, the 29-year-old allegedly dropped a small bag of cocaine from her purse in front of attending officers - resulting in her arrest and subsequent charge with felony drug possession. In the report, Paris denied that the purse she was carrying was hers. But Paris seemed to encourage the sudden explosion of news coverage, despite the fact that she faces up to four years in the slammer.
Could Paris’ recent run-in with the law be just another attempt to reclaim the spotlight? Some media experts have publicly questioned her motives…
Once Hollywood royalty, she has fallen by the wayside while the likes of former friend Kim Kardashian, 29, are conquering the red carpet. “She has been plotting for a way to get back into the limelight, and getting arrested for cocaine is extreme but it worked,” a friend tells In Touch

I could be convinced that Paris saw an opportunity when the cops pulled her over and took advantage of it to drop drugs into their hands. It’s possible. I’m still thinking it was a stupid mistake, but she would also be stupid enough to think she would get off with a slap on the wrist. It might happen for her after all. We’ve heard that Paris is facing serious jail time for this latest incident, but it’s possible her charge could be reduced to a misdemeanor. If she’s charged with a misdemeanor instead of a felony she could get off with community service and a fine. It’s possible that the DA won’t throw the book at her after all. (Radar has more on that.) It’s thought that her lawyer is going to try and get her off on a technicality anyway. Cops didn’t ask for a blood test to verify whether she was on drugs and her lawyer may also argue that the search of Paris was not legal since it happened inside the hotel and not at the scene. It’s not like they had to do much to find the coke, though.

Paris Hilton was banned Wednesday from two Wynn resorts on the Las Vegas Strip, and her boyfriend was dismissed as a nightclub partner following their arrests in a vehicle that police said reeked of marijuana. Wynn Resorts Ltd. spokeswoman Jennifer Dunne told The Associated Press that Hilton is barred from Wynn Las Vegas and Encore.
Meanwhile, boyfriend Cy Waits was “separated” from his job after less than a week as top managing partner of the Tryst Nightclub at Wynn and XS The Nightclub at Encore, Dunne said in a statement.
Waits and a lawyer and publicist for the 29-year-old Hilton did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
The moves come after Hilton was arrested Friday for investigation of felony cocaine possession. Waits was arrested on suspicion of misdemeanor driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs. Charges have not yet been filed. Hilton was arrested inside the Wynn resort, where a police lieutenant reported a small plastic bag containing 0.8 grams of cocaine fell into his hand when Hilton reached for a tube of lip balm in a purse.
The celebrity socialite is scheduled for arraignment Oct. 27 and would face probation if convicted. A police report made public Wednesday said the suspected butt of a marijuana cigarette was found in the Cadillac Escalade in which the couple was stopped in front of the Wynn Las Vegas hotel-casino.
Waits, 34, was driving. He had bloodshot eyes, smelled of alcohol and wobbled as he failed balance and walk-and-turn field sobriety tests, the arresting officer said.
Attorney Richard Schonfeld, who represents Waits, said his client passed an eye test checking the dilation of his pupils. Schonfeld said he was troubled that Waits wasn’t stopped because of a traffic infraction “or any other indication that he was impaired while driving.”
Waits allowed blood to be drawn when he was booked into the Clark County jail in downtown Las Vegas, Officer Bill Cassell said. Results won’t be released until the case reaches court. Waits spent a night in jail on suspicion of misdemeanor driving under the influence before being freed on $2,000 bail with a Nov. 29 court date.
Dunne said Waits’ twin brother, Jesse Waits, is continuing as general partner of the Wynn resorts’ Tryst and XS clubs. The brothers were hired by Steve Wynn five years ago and became the casino owner’s top club managers last week when Wynn bought out Victor Drai.

On the coattails of her arrest over the weekend, Paris Hilton is now banned from the Las Vegas resorts, Wynn and Encore.
The ban is a result of police discovering a bag of cocaine in the heiress? purse after the car she was riding in a vehicle that was pulled over due to the smell of marijuana wafting out of the window.
Furthermore, Ms Hilton?s boyfriend, nightclub executive Cy Waits, has been ?separated from the company and is free to pursue other interests.?
Waits - who failed a sobriety test at the time of the arrest - is still waiting on his charges, according to the Clark County Attorney?s office.

And now Radar?s sources are saying that the DA is hell-bent on locking Paris away. HURRAY!!! Finally, a legal system with a sense of real celebrity justice. Granted, all of this happy-talk from Radar?s sources could be total crap, and I think that the Hilton money will be employed to pay off a number of people to ensure that Paris?s stupidity haunts the world forever. Paris Hilton is about to discover what O.J. Simpson already knows: when it comes to justice, Las Vegas can be a lot tougher than Los Angeles. District Attorney David Roger is highly unlikely to offer Paris a plea bargain deal on her cocaine possession charge, a source close to the case told RadarOnline.com exclusively.
The veteran Clark County, Nevada prosecutor put Simpson behind bars on robbery charges after the former football great beat murder charges in Los Angeles.
?Roger won’t tolerate celebrities coming to Las Vegas and thinking they can get away with illegal behavior,? the source close to the case told RadarOnline.com.
?It’s going to be extremely difficult for Paris to get out of these charges, even with the brilliant legal skills of her lawyer, David Chesnoff.?
Hilton is facing a felony drug possession charge that carries a prison sentence of one to four years. She claimed the purse she was carrying, where the cocaine was found, did not belong to her. Roger is running for reelection and has a record of high-profile victories in the legal arena.
?This is a high profile case, right before a very important election, and it’s very likely that there will be no plea bargaining down of these charges,” said the source.
According to an arrest report obtained by RadarOnline.com, Hilton, 29, told cops she didn?t own the purse in which 0.8 grams of cocaine was found, but admitted she owned other items that were in the purse.
She reportedly told a Las Vegas police lieutenant that she had borrowed the purse from a friend, but acknowledged owning money, credit cards and a broken tablet of the prescription drug Albuterol that was also found in the bag.
The man who arrested Hilton, Lt. Dennis Flynn, said a small plastic “bindle” of the drug fell out of her purse when she reached for a tube of lip balm. Hilton is taking the charges “very seriously,? said a source close to the socialite.
?Paris has been advised to lay low,? said the friend. ?Paris is 100 per cent adamant that the cocaine found in the purse, wasn?t hers. She says she borrowed the handbag from a girlfriend because the handbag she was going to use for the night didn’t match her outfit.?
Hilton’s boyfriend, 34-year-old Las Vegas nightclub mogul Cy Waits, was also arrested.
Police say Waits failed field sobriety tests after he was stopped while driving the black Cadillac Escalade from which a police motorcycle officer reported smelling marijuana smoke. The Vegas bust was the third encounter in three months with law enforcement for Hilton.

This reminds me a little of the Charlie Sheen case, where the Boulder DA seemed to think he had a pretty awesome case against Charlie and then the whole thing fell apart in a matter of weeks, because Charlie?s team is so skilled at crisis management. In the aftermath of her Las Vegas arrest over the weekend, Paris Hilton could be in some serious trouble with the law.
The ?Stars are Blind? songstress is looking at some jail time if she is convicted on felony charges of possession of almost a gram of cocaine.
However, Paris vehemently denies that the drugs were hers, and says the purse she was carrying was borrowed from a friend.
Hilton?s hairdresser Michael Boychuck told press he got a text message from Paris after her arrest. "She just said, 'This is so unfair it wasn't mine I don't do that crap, I'm so upset.'"
But CBS Legal Analyst Lisa Bloom thinks Paris has set herself up for defeat. "She's told contradictory stories. I'm sure her attorney at this point is saying, 'Why did you talk at all to the police? You should have invoked your right to remain silent.' You can't blame both that it's not my purse, I didn't know the cocaine was in there, and I thought it was gum. That is just logically inconsistent. She should have picked one or better yet remained silent. Unfortunately, she didn't do that. All of these statements can and will be used against her if this goes to trial."
Bloom continued, stating that Paris? ?playing dumb? defense isn?t going to do her any good. "We have a saying in criminal law: We don't catch the smart ones. A lot of people who are criminals do a lot of stupid things. But I will say this; the police do have to prove that she knew the cocaine was there. That it was either her cocaine or that she was knowingly carrying it. That's called mens rea in the criminal law. You have to have knowledge. You have to know it was in there. So if she could prove to a judge or jury if it goes to trial that she didn't know, it wasn't hers, it belonged to somebody else, she unknowingly was carrying it, she could have a defense."
"In the purse that she was carrying, was her prescription medication she concedes, $1,300 which belonged to her. Other items in the purse like lip balm that belonged to her. So it doesn't really make a lot of sense that the only thing in the purse apparently that didn't belong to her was this small bindle of cocaine that she didn't know was there or she thought was gum. That's not plausible story."
All in all, Paris could be spending some time in the slammer if the jury finds her guilty. "It's a minimum of probation out there in Clark County, Nevada, but she has a prior history here in California from 2007 of both a DUI and two probation violations. I think under those circumstances the officials would send her to jail, probably just for a short time, though."

The latest update in the Paris Hilton drug arrest drama is that she?s being charged with possession of a controlled substance.
And the nature and amount of the substance - .8 grams of cocaine- means that the ?Simple Life? babe is looking at a felony when the D.A. files the case later today (August 30).
Hilton landed in hot water after being detained by police for being in a car smelling like marijuana smoke. She asked to be taken into a nearby hotel where she tried to take her purse into the bathroom.
A police rep told TMZ, "As she began to open it, I saw a small bindle of what I believed to be cocaine in a clear baggie begin to fall from the purse and into my hand."
Of course, Paris is maintaining that the drugs weren?t hers and that she borrowed the purse from a friend, not knowing the cocaine was in there.

Having been arrested in Sin City this past Friday night (August 27), Paris Hilton has issued a statement of thanks to those fans sticking beside her.
Picked up outside of the Wynn Resort with boyfried Cy Waits on felony cocaine possession allegations, the hotel heiress and her man have since been bonded out after being booked at the local jail.
Voicing her gratitude, Hilton tweeted on Sunday (August 29), "I'm so thankful to all my fans for all the love and support you are giving me. Thank you all. Love you so much. Love Paris xoxo"
Denying any wrongdoing, Paris's high-powered attorney issued a statement the previous day, telling, "This matter will be dealt with in the courts not in the media and I encourage people not to rush to judgment until all of the facts have been dealt with in a court of law."

Everyone knows that Paris Hilton is a cokehead, right? Well, now everyone knows. Paris Hilton was arrested last night for possession of cocaine. She was in Las Vegas, riding in a car being driven by a friend when the car was stopped by Las Vegas police. The police had notices that the car was leaving a ?smoke trail? and they assumed people were hot boxing the car, I suppose. Officers found cocaine in Paris?s possession. Police arrested Paris Hilton on cocaine possession charges late Friday night after stopping the car she was in on a Las Vegas street, authorities said.
The socialite was booked into the Clark County Detention Center early Saturday on the cocaine charge, Las Vegas police spokesman Marcus Martin said. She was released before dawn on her own recognizance.
The 29-year-old Hilton was in a car driven by a friend when it was stopped about 11:30 p.m. MDT Friday after officers detected what they suspected to be marijuana smoke wafting from it, he told The Associated Press.
“Officers noticed a vehicle leaving smoke trail of a controlled substance (and) made a stop based on that,” Martin said.
During the stop, officers found what appeared to be a drug on Hilton and later tests showed that it was cocaine, Martin said. He didn’t know how much was found. He said Hilton was apparently recognized by passers-by and a crowd quickly gathered in the area where the vehicle had been pulled over.
Police watch commander Lt. Wayne Holman said Hilton released early Saturday morning. He didn’t know how long she had been held nor any details about a possible court date.
He said the man who was driving the car was arrested on charges of driving under the influence of drugs. But he didn’t have any other details, including his name.
Hilton’s manager didn’t immediately return AP calls for comment early Saturday. Her publicist, Dawn Miller, did not immediately return an e-mail message. The arrest came during a week in which a burglary attempt was made on Hilton’s Los Angeles home.
Officials said 31-year-old Nathan Lee Parada faces a felony burlgary charge in the Tuesday incident. Authorities have said that someone carrying two big knives banged on Hilton’s window. She posted a photo of the arrest on Twitter and described it as “scary.”
Hilton was arrested this summer after the Brazil-Netherlands World Cup match in Port Elizabeth, South Africa, on suspicion of possession of marijuana. The case was then dropped at a midnight court hearing.
