She?s always been more of a girl next door type, but Reese Witherspoon showed off her rebellious side while out on the beach yesterday (July 4).
The ?Cruel Intentions? actress flashed her waist tattoo while strolling along the sand in Malibu with her son Deacon and a friend.
When examined closely, the new ink seems to be two birds joined together, perhaps in honor of her recent marriage to hubby Jim Toth.
In career news, Reese is enjoying some time off before she begins promoting her forthcoming film ?This Means War? with Chris Pine and Tom Hardy.

Now that Reese Witherspoon is back in Hollywood’s good graces, it’ll be interesting to see what sort of role choices the Oscar-winning actress will make in the future. On the very near horizon, her fans will be able to watch Reese in her very first action movie, This Means War, opposite Tom Hardy and Chris Pine. Beyond that, she’s got her eye on playing Peggy Lee in an upcoming biopic. Presumably, the singer’s camp approves this nearly-finalized casting decision, for Lee’s official homepage links to a Variety article from August 2010 that described Witherspoon as “the driving force behind the project” and in negotiations to star as well. Now, Page Six provides a few more details:
It looks like Reese Witherspoon could be moving closer to playing Peggy Lee in a biopic of the “Fever” songstress. The Water for Elephants star was spotted meeting with Nora Ephron and producer Marc Platt on Thursday at Barneys eatery Fred’s.
The trio made a deal last summer for Ephron to write and direct the feature, with Witherspoon starring. Witherspoon’s also producing with Platt, whose credits include Legally Blonde. The last time she sang on screen, Witherspoon won an Oscar for her role as June Carter Cash. Reps did not return calls.

Since Reese has been busily attempting to put her box-office star back where it once gloriously hung, this project has obviously languished a bit in production hell, but now that Water for Elephants has boosted her audience appeal once more (and also proved that she can still pull off more than a romcom heroine role), this Peggy Lee movie might just happen sooner than originally thought. While I’m not entirely sure that Reese is the best choice to play Peggy Lee, there’s no question that she has the singing voice to pull off at least that aspect of the role. Still, is Reese too perky for the role, or can she dial it down a notch or two?

Enjoying a leisurely afternoon, Reese Witherspoon was spotted out and about in Brentwood, California yesterday (June 28).
The ?Sweet Home Alabama? actress treated her girl Ava Phillippe to lunch at a local eatery for some mother-daughter bonding.
Additionally, Reese met up with a friend at the Brentwood Country Mart where she did some shopping for household items.
As for her Avon Breast Cancer ambassador responsibilities, Reese spent time in cities like Moscow and Warsaw earlier this month to celebrate the company?s 125th anniversary.

Traveling the world for her global ambassador duties, Reese Witherspoon has been busy tending to the Avon Believe World Tour efforts over the past few days.
The "Legally Blonde" beauty made what was her first visit to Moscow, Russia earlier today (June 16), as she was joined by Avon General Manager Angela Cretu for the brand's 125th anniversary celebrations.
The Russian stop comes after Miss Witherspoon and Avon Chairman & CEO Andrea Jung attended the Avon Believe World Tour fete in Warsaw, Poland earlier in the week (June 14).
Having been tied to the company since being named the face of Avon back in 2007, Reese said at the time the big news broke, "I'm very excited about working with the Avon Foundation, with many different aspects of it. First and foremost, breast cancer research and awareness, programs that they're working on. Someone very close to me is a breast-cancer survivor. It's a cause that's very close to my heart."

I just spent WAY too much time looking up photos of miniature donkeys, and now I totally want one. Secretly, I?ve always wanted a goat, but goats are supposed to be bad ?pets? who eat everything and then some. Maybe a miniature donkey would be better? Reese Witherspoon has two miniature donkeys, which she keeps on her Ojai, California ranch, along with her assorted farm animals. I?ve heard her mention chickens and? I think she has a cow, a horse and some goats too. Anyway, Reese?s neighbors are really pissed off about the noise coming out of her farm. The donkeys are causing a jackassy ruckus!
Don’t be an ass! Reese Witherspoon’s Ojai, Calif. neighbors are not happy about the noise level of her donkeys, Honky and Tonky. They hee-haw at such a high-volume that “they’re driving us crazy!” a source told Us Weekly.
“It’s so bad that a few residents have sent her a letter,” a local added. But the 35-year-old actress’ neighbors don’t want her to leave, just quiet down her donkeys! “She’s beloved here,” a neighbor said. “I’m not even sure she know what’s going on.”
In an appearance on The Ellen DeGeneres Show in December, Witherspoon opened up about her farm full of animals. “This year we got donkeys. They’re really cute,” she gushed. “They’re actually miniature donkeys? They’re docile and sweet.”
“I [also] have two pigs, and I have three goats and I have 20 chickens and of course I have three dogs. And I have one horse. It’s hanging out with the donkey, it’s sweet,” she added.
Witherspoon makes sure her son Deacon, 7, and daughter Ava, 11, learn some responsibility through taking care of the family pets. “It’s so good for the kids to learn about animals and kindness and compassion,” she said. “I make them clean the stalls.”

Ah, that?s why I shouldn?t get a donkey. They?ll be too loud. Right now my biggest problem is my giant dog who thinks he?s a wolf every time a firetruck with sirens goes by. Or the UPS truck, his mortal enemy, which causes my dog to freak out like he?s being attacked on all fronts.
So, what?s the answer for too-loud donkeys? I suspect she may have to sell them or give them away. Or just yell ?SHHHHHH!? every time they ?Hee-haw.?

She's been a mainstay in the world of cinema for years, and Reese Witherspoon was toasted at the 2011 MTV Movie Awards in Universal City, California on Sunday night (June 5).
Gracing the Gibson Amphitheatre venue, the "Legally Blonde" beauty received the MTV Generation Award for her lifelong accomplishments in Tinseltown.
During her acceptance speech, Reese said, "I was really nervous when they told me I was gonna get this award."
Miss Witherspoon continued, "I've gotten to work with incredible people. I just wanna say to all the girls out there that? it's possible to make it in Hollywood without a reality show. Thank to everybody at MTV? and all my fans."

Here are some new photos of poor Reese Witherspoon with her broken ankle or whatever (meh, I don?t feel like looking it up) sprained ankle. Reese was supposed to spend this honeymoon period swatting away pregnancy rumors, instead she?s hobbling around, making the cast the newest must-have fashion accessory. Seriously, she does make the cast look pretty chic.
Still, the pregnancy rumors have started anyway. Does she look pregnant here? Not really. But the Enquirer is trying to make it happen anyway:
Baby scoop on radiant Reese Witherspoon! Popping into a posh Brentwood baby boutique, the newlywed star shopped for infant items exclusively - but in nongender-specific colors like yellow and white - causing folks to wonder if a new baby?s on the way.
When a salesgirl pointedly asked WHO the items were for, Reese smiled and said cryptically: ?I?m just picking out some things I need.?
But ladies, here?s the smoking gun: Reese left without getting the baby items gift-wrapped!

Ready to unwind following her recent worldwide promotional tour, Reese Witherspoon treated herself to some time at a L.A. spa earlier today (May 12).
The "Water for Elephants" actress opted for an effortlessly chic, pre-pampering look, wearing big black sunglasses, black sundress and a pair of black ballet flats.
One mystery accessory that Reese has been sporting since Mother's day - a cast on her left foot - has finally been explained.
Witherspoon's rep has stepped forward to assure fans of the her health, telling People, "She twisted her ankle and is in a walking cast temporarily. Nothing serious."

Reese Witherspoon is just coming off her International press tour for Water for Elephants, and she was spotted with her family outside church yesterday wearing a soft cast on her left foot. The Daily Mail explains that these type of casts are used for ankle injuries, so it looks like Reese hurt her ankle somehow. We see her jogging outside a lot, and we could speculate that she tripped or somehow sprained her ankle while jogging, although it’s hard to tell.
Reese’s family was looking so smart and color-coordinated on Mother’s Day. Reese’s son Deacon, seven and a half, was adorable in his navy suit jacket, khaki pants and red tie. Her daughter Ava, 11, wore a navy fitted jacket with white slacks. Reese was in a light blue skirt with a blue and white striped short-sleeve blouse. Reese’s new husband, Jim Toth, was the most casually dressed in a navy polo shirt with khaki pants. Do you think Reese dresses him too?
I wonder how everyone ended up wearing the same color palette. I know when I get my son dressed I’ll sometimes pick out the same color shirt as I’m wearing and it’s like I do it almost subconsciously. Then my husband might put on a similar-colored shirt and we’ll go out like that all matchy-matchy. When you add in a couple of more people it seems more deliberate, though. It’s like they all match Reese’s leg brace. I can imagine Reese telling Jim, “wear that shirt, honey” although she would have picked out a button-down shirt for him for church. Still, this is an improvement over what he’s worn to church in the past. (Remember the shirt with the embroidered eagles paired with jeans and a trucker cap?)

Not letting a minor injury get in the way of her special day, Reese Witherspoon attended a Mother's Day church service with husband, Jim Toth, and her kids, Ava and Deacon, in Santa Monica, CA on Sunday (May 8).
Wearing a soft cast on her injured foot, the "Legally Blonde" actress hobbled around the venue following the day-beginning sermon before loading the family into the car and heading off for a Mother's Day brunch.
Miss Witherspoon's family outing comes as she just returned to the States following an intense multi-city overseas press tour for her new movie "Water For Elephants".
During one of the stops, Reese chatted with Daily Mail about her roller-coaster of a recent life, saying, "I?ve had ups and downs, emotions that haven?t always been sunny and it?s really important to have a support system."
The recently remarried actress continued, "I think the early part of raising children is very physical and then the later part is very emotional. It?s complicated making big decisions about how to guide a life and soul in this world. I?m very lucky that I have really good girlfriends."
As for her own matriarch, Witherspoon told, "I have a very optimistic mother ? she?s taught me to see the bright side of things, and when you have children you don?t have a choice. You can?t just sit around and feel bad about yourself. You?ve got to take them to school, you?ve got to pick them up. They look at you as the guiding compass of how to behave in life."
"Some days I didn?t want to get out of bed, but as someone said to me when I first had kids, Being a parent stops the horrible cycle of self-obsession," she added.
