Margot Robbie is going to be everywhere. She?s already everywhere, but as promotion for Suicide Squad ramps up, she?s going to be saturating every outlet. The ?It Girl of the Summer? covers the August issue of Vanity Fair, and it?s a gorgeous photoshoot. She looks like Bo Derek and Farrah Fawcett and Marilyn Monroe had a perfect blonde baby. Margot mostly talks about The Legend of Tarzan in this piece, but I think she?s mostly concentrating on Suicide Squad making her a HUGE star. You can read the full VF piece here ? Margot comes across as a very low-key, low-drama kind of person. She?s not as clumsy or quotable as Jennifer Lawrence, but she?s not as boring as someone like Jessica Chastain (sorry, Chastain). Some highlights:
Growing up in Gold Coast, Australia: ?But I don?t like to talk about it? [it only] encourages stereotypes. People always want to know, ?Did you have kangaroos outside your bedroom window?? I?m like, ?Yes, but none of my other friends did.? Or ?Did you have snakes running around?? And again, ?Yes, in our house, but this isn?t an Australian thing.??
Early dreams: ?When I was little, I thought I was going to be a magician. I had tricks and thought they were genius. I didn?t decide, ?I?m going to be an actress.? I didn?t know that was a job. I thought that only happened to people born in Hollywood. But I put on shows at home, and I used to watch videos over and over and knew them by heart. I did drama at school and was in all the plays just because I liked doing it.?
Whether Aussies are proud of her success: ?There?s a thing in Australia called tall-poppy syndrome. Have you heard of it? It?s a pretty prevalent thing?they even teach it in school. Poppies are tall flowers, but they don?t grow taller than the rest of the flowers, so there?s a mentality in Australia where people are really happy for you to do well; you just can?t do better than everyone else or they will cut you down to size.?
Working on the failed TV show ?Pan Am?: ?As soon as it went on-air, they were like, ?No, we didn?t get the ratings we want?let?s get a whole new crew of writers and make it more like Housewives.? And you?re like, ?What? That?s so not what the show was going to be.? After the fifth episode, you see this abrupt change in content. If they?re rehiring writers, it?s obviously not doing well. If they don?t pick up the back nine, it?s pretty certain that you won?t go for a Season Two.?
Life in America: ?I remember watching American movies and TV shows growing up and thinking, Oh, God, these crazy characters doing these outlandish things, how do the writers come up with it? Then I moved to America and met so many people just like the people in the movies, and I realized, Oh, so this is just real life in America.?
What is Harley Quinn? ?She loves causing mayhem and destruction. She?s incredibly devoted to the Joker. They have a dysfunctional relationship, but she loves him anyway. She used to be a gymnast?that?s her skill set when fighting.?

Several Aussies have talked about tall-poppy syndrome lately, including Rebel Wilson. There?s a similar cultural thing in Great Britain too, where ?people? don?t want you to get TOO successful, and they will cut you down if you start believing your own hype. I can?t even imagine! That?s so antithetical to the American way of the culture of success. As for her thoughts about the craziness of America, I get the feeling that she?s really from a far-flung and somewhat isolated part of Australia, like she?s a country girl who is sort of flabbergasted by the hustle and bustle of LA, New York and London.

Here are some photos from last night?s London premiere of The Legend of Tarzan, which is still sitting at 34% at Rotten Tomatoes. Critically, this film was not well-received, but it has already made $65 million worldwide, so I suspect the film will (at the very least) break even when all is said and done. Alexander Skarsgard won?t have to preside over a gigantic bomb, which is good for all of us who enjoy the Swedish Viking.
You can tell that Alex?s costar Margot Robbie is trying to push the film a bit harder now too. Probably because she doesn?t want to have to wear it either if the film completely bombs. Margot wore this MiuMiu gown to the premiere and? it?s not her best look. I think Margot is really beautiful and striking but this whole look does nothing for her or for me. Why did her hair stylist do this to her hair? Why did her stylist choose this dress? This was an opportunity to really wow everyone and it just feels like her team was phoning it in.
Alex?s girlfriend came out for the premiere too. Alexa Chung wore Alessandra Rich and I really, really don?t like it. Then again, I never really understood why Alexa was ever a thing, or why she?s still a thing now. Style icon? Not so much.

Here are some photos from last night?s LA premiere of The Legend of Tarzan. My gut says that this film is a total mess, which probably means that the film will make a billion dollars, because I?m terrible at predicting what bad movies people want to watch. Margot Robbie and Alexander Skarsgard are being pushed out non-stop these days to sell this film, and they?re doing an okay job. I mostly think people are interested in Margot Robbie more than Alex, but who knows? I?m also interested in Djimon Hounsou and Samuel L Jackson?s involvement.
I?m including photos of the cast and of Skarsgard, but let?s talk about Margot?s ensemble. It?s not great, right? And it doesn?t even seem to be the right season! This ?Mandarin-inspired? gown is by Gucci. It?s satin (possibly silk satin), with a high Mandarin collar and? Pink fur cuffs. Like, if Gucci had made a few edits, I think this might have been interesting. Edit out the Pink fur cuffs, go for some shortened sleeves and? maybe avoid those giant stripper heels, maybe? The dress also has a very high side slit, which Margot tried to work by maneuvering her body in weird directions on the carpet. The whole thing just looks uncomfortable? for a June premiere.
Alex looks good though, as does Djimon.

This shouldn?t surprise anyone, but I guess I wasn?t expecting to see Margot Robbie on the June cover of Vogue. Margot is the It Girl, and this is her big year. Everyone?s excited to see what she does with Harley Quinn in Suicide Squad, although she got the Vogue cover more for her role in Tarzan. The Vogue editorial even features Alexander Skarsgard too. And he?s wearing a wet shirt and playing with kittens. Basically, people need to see Tarzan. They will do anything to make sure this film doesn?t bomb. Growing up in Australia: ?Gold Coast in Queensland? I had no idea I was living in a state that gets laughed at until I moved to Melbourne and then someone was like, ?Ohrrr, yar from Queensland, eh? You put ?Eh?? on the end of your sentences because you?re all a bit slow.? And I was like, ?Is this a thing? That Queensland is the dumb state?? It?s so embarrassing.?
Her role in Wolf of Wall Street: ?When I first read it, I thought, I have nothing in common with her. I hate her. It was a really tricky one to get my head around. But her motivation was ?You guys are doing it?why shouldn?t I? It?s this man?s world, and I?m going to get mine.? And I understand that.?
On Harley Quinn: ?She doesn?t even have superpowers. She?s just a psychopath who runs around gleefully killing people?she finds joy in causing mayhem, which makes her weirdly endearing and fun to watch.?
Playing Jane in Tarzan: ?There?s no way I was going to play the damsel in distress? [but after reading the script] It just felt very epic and big and magical in some way. I haven?t done a movie like that. The Harry Potter films could have been really cheesy, but David Yates made them into something dark and cool and real ? plus it was shooting in London, and I, on a whim, had just signed a lease on a house there.?
On her boyfriend of two years, Tom Ackerley, an assistant director: ?I was the ultimate single gal. The idea of relationships made me want to vomit. And then this crept up on me. We were friends for so long. I was always in love with him, but I thought, Oh, he would never love me back. Don?t make it weird, Margot. Don?t be stupid and tell him that you like him. And then it happened, and I was like, Of course we?re together. This makes so much sense, the way nothing has ever made sense before.?

Unlike some celebrities who sort of force the ?I?m so normal? image down our throats, I actually buy that Margot is a pretty normal person. She seems? what?s the word? Unaffected, perhaps. Oblivious to the trappings of fame. Mostly I like her because it feels like she?s not trying to convince me of anything. She just IS. She?s herself, she works hard, she?s been lucky, and she?s not going to complain. It?s refreshing.

For you youngsters out there, this won?t be a very big deal. But if you were around in the early 1990s, this is a BFD. Hollywood has finally decided to make a movie about Tonya Harding. Like, everything about Tonya Harding during the 1994 Olympics, and before and after. It was one of the craziest Olympic stories of all time, basically. Tonya Harding was the hard-scrabble ice skater who was looking to dethrone Nancy Kerrigan as America?s Ice Princess. Harding was actually more accomplished than Kerrigan, but Kerrigan got most of the press and attention because she ?looked the part? of an ice princess. So Tonya and her husband hired some goons to take Kerrigan out of the competition. What?s amazing about this is that the story will be told through Tonya Harding?s perspective, and Harding actually worked with the screenwriter to get the authenticity of the story. And Deadline reports that Margot Robbie is now attached to play Harding. Which? I mean, I think that?s perfect. Truly.
Margot Robbie has come attached to I, Tonya, a script by Steven Rogers about the crazy story of Tonya Harding. Remember her? She was the ice princess who emerged from a poor upbringing and rough childhood in Portland, OR to rise to the top of the sport of figure skating with a ferocious determination and athleticism that allowed her to become the first American woman to complete the triple axel in major competitions. That propelled her to victory in the 1991 U.S. Figure Skating Championships and second in the World Championships.
She was expected to battle Nancy Kerrigan for gold in the 1994 Olympic Games in Lillehammer. Of course, Harding is mostly known for the infamy that occurred when her husband, Jeff Gillooly, and a couple of hired thugs tried to incapacitate Kerrigan by breaking her leg. They merely bruised Kerrigan, got caught, and Gillooly turned against his wife as he tried to stay out of jail. Kerrigan wound up winning the silver medal at that Olympics, and the completely distracted Harding finished eighth as her life was circling the drain. As the ensuing scandal unfolded, the USFSA stripped Harding of her 1994 championship and banned her for life.
I, Tonya is being produced by Bryan Unkeless and his Clubhouse Pictures. Robbie also is coming aboard in a producing capacity through her LuckyChap Entertainment banner?.There is no director on I, Tonya yet, but Robbie is taking it upon herself to find a filmmaker to build this project around herself. Financiers also are circling.
Depending on how it?s done, it has the potential to be another To Die For, the Gus Van Sant-directed film that starred Nicole Kidman in a tale of naked ambition and the price for fame. Rogers wrote his script after doing extensive interviews with both Harding and Gillooly, capturing the absurdity of what happened but also the tragic part of the Harding saga, and trying to come from nothing to prominence in a sport where most of the competitors are the children of wealthy families that can afford all the ice time and trainers needed to get to that high a level.

More and more, I find myself liking and respecting Margot Robbie. She got some of the best reviews from The Wolf of Wall Street, and many people are excited to see her Harley Quinn in The Suicide Squad (and it looks like she nailed the part too). If done correctly, playing Tonya Harding could be one of the best and juiciest roles of Margot?s career. It has everything from physical drama, emotional drama, bad hair, a sh-tty marriage and girl-on-girl theatrics. But it has to be handled the right way, or else it will just end up a Lifetime movie. But I?m really happy that Margot is attached and that she?s hellbent on making it the right way. A lot of beautiful young actresses would not want to play a character who is so low-class, you know? But I love that Margot is committed.

Margot Robbie was another one of my favorites at last night?s Oscars. She got to present with Jared Leto (because The Suicide Squad), and for the honor of presenting, Margot was the only woman at the Oscars in Tom Ford. That?s how exclusive Tom Ford is these days, he?ll only dress one person at the Oscars. And he chose Margot. Which? okay? I like her too, and I think she?s got that It Factor, but at the end of the day, this dress probably should have gone to someone like Brie Larson. Still, this is an absolutely gorgeous, sexy dress. I have mixed feelings about Margot?s styling? I think she wanted it to be all about the dress, which is why everything else feels sort of undone. I think they could have figured out a better hairstyle and a better clutch though.
Kate Winslet wore this custom Ralph Lauren ? imagine Kate in that gold Tom Ford. Right? She would have looked great. I actually didn?t hate this RL dress, but it was very, very SHINY. And Kate needs to stop f?king with her face and then lying about it. Her Botoxologist had a field day reworking her face ahead of the Oscars. Just a few weeks ago, her Botox made her look like she had a permanent scowl, and now she?s stuck on ?sleepy.?

Margot Robbie covers the August issue of ELLE to promote Z for Zachariah. She has so many movies in the works, including Tarzan and Suicide Squad. I wasn’t convinced by her Gwen Stefani-esque Harley Quinn costume, but the Comic-Con footage (included below) looks more promising than I expected.
The interview excerpts are pretty sparse so far, but one part sticks out. We talked about how Jared Leto decided to be the most “method” Joker ever and gifted a live rat to Margot. He gave presents to all the cast members to set the mood, and Margot’s rat gift was the most outrageous. Now Margot tells ELLE that she kept the rat as a pet, and they’re very happy together eating from Whole Foods:
On her true age: “People seem outraged that I’m 24. People think I’m a decade older.”
She kept the rat: Several crew members suggested killing it, but Robbie kept the rat because, “If Harley [her character in Suicide Squad] got something from Joker, she’d probably cherish it.” Rat Rat now dines on organic berries from Whole Foods.
She won’t talk about her boyfriend, Tom Ackerly: “He was a third AD, he’s now working as a second AD, and that’s, yeah.”

Here’s where things get sketchy. When Jai Courntey promoted Terminator Genisys, he claimed that the rat went to an unlikely owner, director Guillermo del Toro. So someone is making stuff up, and I’m not sure whether it’s Jai or Margot. Jai seems like a jokey guy, but Margot recently claimed to eat four pounds of spaghetti in one sitting. So yeah, I’m a little suspicious of both versions. Who has the rat?
Oh, and Warner Bros. officially released the Suicide Squad sizzle reel from Comic-Con. Margot’s Harley Quinn dominates, but Jared’s Joker makes a late entrance.
