Kendall Jenner was profiled in the New York Times about her rising modelling career. This isn’t the first time NYT has interviewed her. She made a cameo appearance in from a June 2013 profile where Kendall shyly muttered a few words and was described as “aggressively managed.” Things are different now. Kendall’s landing big-time contracts and walking runways at fashion weeks across the globe. Karl Lagerfeld just handed her an ad campaign, and many wonder if Chanel will be the next offer.
Kendall’s been talking a lot lately, which means she’s reluctantly crawling out of her shell. She talked about working hard for her career, and a lot of you called her out on it. Kendall also talked about her competitive Kardashian upbringing (which everyone seems to have won except for Rob the black sheep). All Kardashians are “workaholics, says Kendall. This NYT interview is even weirder. She talks about her “double life” in terms of Hannah Montana. Let’s do this:
On balancing modelling & KUWTK: “It?s definitely two different worlds. I feel like Hannah Montana. But it?s fun.”
Modelling is a lifelong dream: “I would literally sit at home and have my friends take pictures of me on my little Canon camera that my mom gave me for Christmas. Obviously, the show was me being in front of a camera. It?s just something that I?ve kind of always been around.”
She’s trying to rebrand: “We had to be very strategic and specific to really have people take me seriously and not mess around.”
On shaking the Kardashian reputation: “Some people are hesitant with me, and they just worry or wonder for a second. But then when the chance gets taken …”

Well. At least Hannah Montana left the stage and returned to a “normal” life. Kendall leaves her modelling gigs to spend time with one of the least normal families in the world. I guess KUWTK is so familiar to Kendall that maybe she thinks they’re normal. The journo describes Kendall as having a “daffy sweetness.” The NYT also speaks with Oliver Rousteing, creative director at Balmain, who says, “Kendall?s really communicating to a lot of girls. You know, like those models in the 90s, Claudia, Naomi.” Ooooh boy.

Kendall Jenner is still basking in the glow of her Estee Lauder contract that was annouced over the weekend. The reactions to Kendall’s new gig were mixed, but that’s good for the brand. Kendall’s name and likeness stir up a buzz, and that’s in the interest of any cosmetic company. Teens find Kendall influential, and she’s already helped Estee Lauder’s Instagram page score an extra 50,000 followers in only a few days.
Kendall sat down with Nightline to talk about her modelling career. She insists that the Kardashian-Jenner namesake did not win her any built-in connections in fashion. I sort of agree with her. If Kendall didn’t have “the look,” she wouldn’t be on runways. But in the case of many brands, Kendall’s preexisting KUWTK fanbase matters to create buzz. Here are some interview excerpts:
On nepotism: “I?m not trying to use a family name or anything. In reality I worked pretty hard for this … It wasn?t like I just got it magically and it just happened.”
On wearing a sheer top for Marc Jacobs: “Who?s going to argue with Marc Jacobs when he?s putting you in an outfit, you know what I mean? It was an amazing moment. And I do not regret it.”
On “banning” Kim from her runway gigs: “It was more of a mutual understanding. I remember getting a phone call from Kim … ‘I just wanted to let you know, I just got an invite to the Marc show. I don?t think it?s a good idea that I go. Do you agree?? And I was like, ?I completely agree? … She obviously is who she is, and it would?ve almost taken the attention away from me.”
Kendall wants to be an idol: “I would just always be looking at these supermodels who were just so amazing to me. They were like superheroes. … They were magical. … I want to be some little girl?s superhero. I want to be, I want to be the best role model I can be to a little girl or to a little boy or to anybody.”
On Kris & Bruce’s divorce: “It sucked, but it?s not– I try to think of it as it?s not the worst thing that could have happened. I still am so close with both my dad and my mom. Nothing has really changed, except for the fact that now my dad lives on a beach, which is awesome. That?s not that bad … everybody?s happy.”
On online criticism: “I don?t feel the need, you know what I mean? Let them do what they want to do. Let them sit behind a computer and write stupid things about a young girl and make her feel bad about herself. I think it?s cruel and it?s evil.”
She’s not worried: “Why would you ever want to live your life like that? So like, just traumatized, by what everybody is saying about you? If you just ignore it and go on and you?re like, ‘I know what?s real.’ My family, my friends, they know what?s real. So what else, why does that matter?”

Kendall makes several decent points, especially about her critics. People criticize her all the time online, and she has the right attitude about it. She is still a young girl (at age 19), and people tear her down … why? Because she’s part of the Kardashian-Jenner Klan. Kendall isn’t perfect. She acts bratty sometimes when she’s off-duty, but we haven’t heard any reports of her lack of professionalism. Give the girl a chance. Her fellow models should give it a rest too.

Kendall Jenner’s mainstream modelling career just took a sharp right turn for the legit. She’s been announced as the face of Estee Lauder. I’m not too surprised. Kendall’s walked runways for Dolce & Gabbana, Fendi, Pucci, and Bottega Veneta over the past few seasons. Now she’s scored her first major modelling contract. I know the knee jerk reaction is to wonder how a Kardashian could represent a major brand. This decision makes sense though. Time magazine called Kendall “influential.“ It hurts to think of anyone in the Kardashian Klan that way, but it’s true. Kendall has a large social media presence, which will only help the Estee Lauder brand by appealing to the selfie generation.
Kendall excitedly Instagrammed the news on Saturday morning: “I am super excited to announce that I am the new face of @esteelauder!! check out http://www.esteelauder.com/kendall to see more…I still can’t believe it myself!” Here are the details from People:
Kendall has known about her new gig for a few months, but had to wait to reveal it to the rest of the world, which only built up the excitement.
“It honestly feels like a dream to represent such an iconic beauty brand — it is an incredible honor and quite humbling,” she says in a press release. “I found out when I was backstage at Paris fashion week, and all this time I?ve had to keep the news top secret. I am so excited to share it now and be part of Este Lauder.”
Adds Estee Lauder Global Brand President Jane Hertzmark Hudis, “She is the ultimate instagirl, and we are excited to leverage her image, voice, energy and extraordinary social media power to introduce Estee Lauder to millions of young women around the world.”

She is overseas working the runways, but Kendall Jenner is still standing up for her right to vote in the United States.
On Tuesday (September 23), the 18-year-old beauty teamed up with Rock the Vote and shared a video asking her generation to get registered before the November midterm elections.
?I?m here in Europe for fashion week, but back in the U.S. it is National Voter Registration Day and I?m using Rock the Vote?s new mobile registration tool to register to vote and you can too,? Kendall explained in the clip.
She finished off the video asking everyone to register ?so our generation?s voice can be heard this fall.?
