Carey Mulligan covers the May issue of Vogue Magazine. Or should I say, Daisy Buchanan from The Great Gatsby covers the May issue. The pictorial is a theme on Gatsby, because Gatsby premieres at the Cannes Film Festival and opens in wide release in less than a month. So, the promotional tour for The Great Gatsby begins now. I?m kind of excited! I actually want to see the film, although I?m pretty sure it will drive me crazy and I?ll want to yell ?SETTLE DOWN? at Baz Luhrmann.
So, what are your thoughts on the pictorial? I kind of hate it. Mario Testino photographed Carey-as-Daisy in various Art Deco settings and the whole thing turned out weird. Many of the photos just seem much, much too cold and I?m too busy looking at the dcor and not the lady or the clothes. I don?t think this is one of Testino?s better shoots ? you can see the full slideshow here.
Since it?s a Monday and since I?m tired, I haven?t read the whole interview with Carey. I look forward to reading it at some point, and if you?re interested, go here to read the full piece. I read the first page and I pulled my favorite two paragraphs, where Carey compares Zelda Fitzgerald to a Kardashian.
[Mulligan] doesn?t seem too concerned, having brought with her instead a collection of battered paperbacks and a large sheaf of photocopied letters to F. Scott Fitzgerald from Ginevra King, the sixteen-year-old Chicago debutante with whom Fitzgerald first fell in love and who gave him the outline for so many of the women in his fiction. Princeton University Library copied the entire unpublished set for Mulligan, who devoured them as bedside reading, ?soaking up her view of the world, the way she spoke,? she says, turning to one of the letters. ? ?Yours ?til the little devils in hell go skating.? I love that. ?There?s so little to me that I?m not hard to forget quickly. . . .? That dichotomy between Daisy having that attitude but meaning the exact opposite. . . .?
She dives again into her biography of Zelda, who, along with King, went into what Mulligan calls ?my Daisy cocktail?: ? ?I seem always curiously interested in myself, and it?s so much fun to stand off and look at me. . . .? That?s a direct Zelda quote. It?s that kind of feeling: I?m-so-little-and-there?s-nothing-to-me, watch-me-have-nothing-to-me. She feels like she?s living in a movie of her own life. She?s constantly on show, performing all the time. Nothing bad can happen in a dream. You can?t die in a dream. She?s in her own TV show. She?s like a Kardashian.?

I?ve never really thought of Zelda as a Kardashian, but I think Carey is on to something. Not that the side-by-side comparison holds up completely, but there are probably a decent number of similarities. Funny.

They?ve been married less than a month, and last night (May 7) Carey Mulligan and Marcus Mumford looked blissful at the 2012 Met Gala.
The ?Little Lion Man? singer and his ?Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps? wife both wore big smiles as they made their first red carpet appearances as a married couple.
And of course, Carey donned a contemporary-style silver and gold gown by Prada, while Marcus opted for a black tuxedo, bow tie, and vest.
Mr. and Mrs. Mumford got hitched on April 21st in a small ceremony in front of 100 guests including Colin Firth, Jake Gyllenhaal, and Sienna Miller.

Carey Mulligan walked her first red carpet as a married lady last night at the Met Gala. Carey married Marcus Mumford just a few weeks ago in England – and many hoped that the Met Gala carpet would be their debut as a red-carpet couple. Unfortunately, I didn?t spy any photos of Marcus. I think Carey went solo to the event. Everyone said she was wearing her wedding ring, but I think Carey was trying to make a point out of not ?flashing? the ring, because it?s really difficult to get a good angle on it in most of these photos.
Thankfully, she wasn?t just some fashion girl looking for some attention – Carey was the co-chair of the event, and as such, she probably got her pick of the Prada frocks going around. And this is what she chose. Fab Sugar says that Carey chose the design from a sketch, and Miuccia Prada had it delivered to Carey yesterday, just hours before the event.
I keep seeing the dress being described as ?gold? but it?s really ombre, right? That?s not just the lighting? The top part is gold, the bottom part is silver-grey. Thoughts on the metallic fish-scales? I almost always hate that kind of fish-scale plating, and I?m not crazy about it on this dress. In fact, my overwhelming affection for Carey might be affecting my opinion on this dress. Maybe it looked better in person? That might be it – because I don?t think it?s photographing that well. And that stiff, A-line skirt is just rough. I kind of love her big hair, though. But again, I love this girl. It?s affecting how I see this whole look.

I don?t think I?ve done any coverage of Carey Mulligan?s relationship with Marcus Mumford. I haven?t been trying to ignore them, honestly. I really love Carey – I think she?s a wonderful actress, and a genuinely funny, pretty little thing. As for Marcus (of Mumford & Sons), well? physically, he reminds me a lot of a guy I used to date, and I associate Marcus with that d-bag. It?s not fair to Marcus. By most accounts, Marcus is a good guy, and he and Carey got loved-up really quickly. Something about how they were childhood pen pals who reconnected last year, followed by a whirlwind romance and a quick engagement, which they announced last August. I?ve been hearing rumors in the UK press that the nuptials will happen at any moment, but I didn?t really believe it. Now Radar is reporting it:
Carey Milligan is getting hitched! The 26-year-old An Education star is marrying her fianc of nine months, Mumford and Sons singer, Marcus Mumford, this weekend in the English countryside!
“Carey and Marcus are counting down the days till they tie the knot! She is absolutely walking on air and can hardly contain her excitement,” an insider exclusively tells RadarOnline.com. “They don’t care that some of their friends think they are rushing things. They are madly in love and know they are perfect for each other.”
After her breakup with Transformers star Shia Labeouf in late 2010 she was briefly linked to Jake Gyllenhaal before becoming engaged to Marcus last August.
“It’s going to be an amazing weekend as they will be surrounded by their closest family and friends,” the insider said. “Its a dream come true for Carey.”

I have to wonder if Kate Moss didn?t make it cool for British kids to get married in the English countryside. Ever since Kate?s wedding, it feels like there?s a renewed movement amongst Cool Britiannia to have old-fashioned country weddings. Anyway, I now think it?s on – Carey and Marcus will be married within a week! And Carey is set to co-chair this year?s Met Gala too – busy girl! That?s probably where Carey and Marcus will make their red carpet debut as a married couple, right?
