I forget that this happens every dang time, but here we go again: every time Kensington Palace releases a new photo (taken by the Duchess of Cambridge) of one of the Cambridge children, we have to hear stories about how Kate is the most amazing Future Future Queen ever. Because she?s a keen amateur photographer. But it?s not just ?Kate takes cute pics of her kids.? It?s ?Kate is a brilliant PR mastermind for dedicating herself to taking photos of her children!? This is what happens when a duchess is lazy as hell and a huge media operation has little material with which to embiggen her.
The Duchess of Cambridge has taken ownership of Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis public image, a royal expert has claimed. Kate Middleton, 39, is a keen amateur photographer and has become known for releasing candid snaps of her children for special events, including their birthdays each year. Royal expert Camilla Tominey said the model is unique for the Duke, 39, and Duchess of Cambridge and helps the family maintain a level of privacy for Prince George, eight, Princess Charlotte, six, and Prince Louis, three.
Speaking to The Telegraph, she said: The paparazzi theres no market anymore because the Duchess comes out with her own family photos and theyre far more valuable to the press than images taken at a long lens. Thats how The Cambridges are going to strike the balance, theyre going to give in order to receive a degree of privacy back.
Speaking as the Duchess released a beaming snap of her eldest son George on his eighth birthday, Camilla said: Georges childhood will be very different from the royals who have gone before him. His generation is the digital generation and the challenges for the Cambridges as time goes on is how to manage public interest in their son with their own privacy.
She said she thought Prince Georges recent appearance at Wembley was because the little royal is genuinely a football fan, but added: Equally the Cambridges do want the public to see their children and have some degree of access to them. Youve got [to] balance the private and the public of their lives and theres an expectation of seeing George grow up because he will one day be King.
She added that parenting through the royal generations has become more hands on, revealing: Were told the Cambridges very much plan their diary around the fact someone needs to be there in the morning and for bedtime. We know the Duchess does the school run herself and drives the children in that theyre there for the key events in the school term. They want to be parents first and foremost. Theres a sense for both of them that they know what their destiny isbut before then, they want to try to preserve as much family life as they can. Prince George is a child of the new digital generation unlike when Prince William and Harry got into trouble. I think Prince George will have to be quite careful to preserve his own privacy as he becomes a teenager and his parents will be acutely aware hes vulnerable.
However she added that Kate had taken ownership of her childrens image in the press by releasing photographs of them each year, adding: The interesting thing about the Cambridges model, and its kind of unique for the royals, is that the Duchess in particular has almost taken ownership of the childrens image. We had a situation when the children were first born when the couple were worried about pap shotsKate now saturates the market with her own imagery of the children. And I think well see that continue.
[From The Daily Mail]
Kate does not ?saturate the market.? She used to only release one or two images of her children a year, although in recent years, she has been posting more photos. It?s still not ?saturating the market? though. Besides, some of the most popular photos are the ones shot when the kids attend an event, or when the kids are in public in some way. When George was a baby, the photos of him on the Australia tour went all over the world in a way that Kate?s sanctioned portraits just don?t. When the kids go to polo games, those photos are much more popular than Kate?s photos of her kids. People were more interested in seeing George at the Euro football matches than seeing his birthday portrait. So I have no idea what Tominey is talking about. I do think it?s notable that Tominey basically makes it sound like the photos are all Kate. William doesn?t have a say, I guess. I actually think William wanted to skip releasing a portrait of George this year and Kate was like ?I do what I want.?

When did Prince William really begin to put some daylight between himself and the Middletons? I still think it goes back to Tatler?s ?Catherine the Great? cover story last year, when Kate wanted her PR to be that she?s ?the kingmaker? and William would be nothing without her buttons and keenness. Tatler made sure to include Rose Hanbury?s name and a lot of shadiness towards Kate?s family too and the whole thing turned into a massive PR debacle. In the year that followed, Kate continued to lean into this ?Kate the Keen Kingmaker, Top CEO, Lynchpin Guevara, Peacemaker Extraordinaire? storyline. And William doesn?t want it. That storyline doesn?t benefit him or his Future King plans. So he?s been disentangling himself and the Middletons are getting increasingly hysterical as they try to bring him back into the fold.
Why am I bringing this up? Apparently, Pippa Middleton and her husband, Terribly Moderately Wealthy James Matthews, were at Wembley Stadium on Wednesday night for the England v. Denmark Euro semifinal. The Daily Mail thoughtfully noted that Pippa and James were not invited to the VIP Box to watch the match with Pippa?s brother-in-law.
Pippa Middleton cut an elegant figure as she joined her husband James Matthews to cheer on England at Wembley last night. The mother-of-two, 37, opted not to wear a football shirt and instead chose a cream blouse and baby Pink culottes, which she paired with tan wedges, to watch the Three Lions triumph in the Euro 2020.
The Duchess of Cambridges sister arrived alongside her billionaire husband, 45, leaving children Arthur, two, and newborn Grace at home, and could be seen queuing alongside punters to enter the event.
Pippas brother-in-law the Duke also attended the match last night, although the couple did not join him in his box. Meanwhile Kate Middleton was unable to attend, having been forced to self-isolate after she came into contact with someone who tested positive despite being double-jabbed and testing negative for the virus herself.
[From The Daily Mail]
Terribly Moderately Wealthy James is not a billionaire! Fake news! The whole reason I call him TMW James is because the Middleton Propaganda endlessly repeated that James was and is ?terribly rich.? When people finally began to assess James? actual worth, yes, he?s wealthy and he comes from a wealthy family but he?s not a billionaire!
As for Pippa and James not getting into the VIP Box. I understand the explanation/excuse, which is that the section is for VIPs, royals and politicians. That?s all true. But it still feels notable that Prince William and his sister-in-law were at the same event and they apparently didn?t sit together, see each other or speak to each other? Are the Middletons out in the cold?
Pippa Middleton and husband James kept a low-profile as they queued with punters to cheer on the Three Lions at Wembley https://t.co/vFcN5GLbZs

| Duchess Kate wrote a letter of keen support to her children's hospice patronage | Added 4 years ago | Source: CeleBitchy |

The Duchess of Cambridge doesn?t have many ?favorite? patronages. Well, she doesn?t have many patronages at all, but there aren?t many she visits consistently. She?s a fan of the National Portrait Gallery, of course, and she?s probably done the most work with them in recent years. One of Kate?s first patronages was EACH, East Anglia?s Children?s Hospices. She averages maybe two visits or events with EACH every year. Incidentially, the photos we always use of Kate and William with Rose Hanbury? Those are from an EACH benefit hosted by Rose and her husband at Houghton Hall. Yes, Rose is very involved with EACH too. Just FYI.
Anyway, I looked it up and the last time Kate did anything with or for EACH was literally one year ago exactly. Yes, it?s time for the annual Children?s Hospice Week. Last year, Kate went tan and maskless to a hospice, planted a tree and breathed on sick kids. What?s in store for us this year? Well, it looks like EACH is going to have to make due with Kateum, writing a letter of support.
Kate Middleton and Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall are raising awareness for Childrens Hospice Week following an especially tough and frightening year for families with vulnerable kids.
Kate, the royal patron of East Anglias Childrens Hospices (EACH), asked everyone to join her in thanking the U.K.s 54 childrens hospices and their incredible staff for the life-changing care they provide in a letter to mark the week.
The last year has been a difficult one for everyone, and especially tough and frightening for families with seriously ill children, she said. Many started shielding long before others, worrying about the pandemic and what it might mean for their child.
The theme for this years Childrens Hospice Week is Pushed to the Limits, recognizing how hard the past year has been for these families.
Childrens hospices are a lifeline, and I have been privileged to see first-hand the remarkable work they do, Kate, 39, continued. They give families the care and time they need to make treasured lifelong memories the chance to be parents, not carers. Vitally, they are also there when it is time to say goodbye, making sure a family has privacy and dignity so they can grieve together, and are able to receive support for as long as they need it.
[From People]
You can read Kate?s letter here at EACH. They just posted a copy of the letter with the Kensington Palace letterhead, and Kate?s signature. I?d be willing to bet that staffers wrote the letter and Kate signed it. That counts as an event, right?
Anyway, just pointing out that Kate really does so little for or with her existing patronages, yet she has all the time in the world to create the Keen Buttons and Early Years Research Institute, where she will be keen, drown herself in buttons and ?research? child development. Until she gets bored, I guess. I also wonder what happened to Heads Together and how the Cambridges schemed to put all of their existing patronages in one place so they could presumably do less work? Whatever happened to that?
Our Patron, HRH The Duchess of Cambridge, has marked the start of #ChildrensHospiceWeek by sending a personal message of support to celebrate the vital work we do for children and families. Read the full message here: https://t.co/JwGbMb68kI@KensingtonRoyal pic.twitter.com/ALaIOARIHm

| Duchess Kate's unrivaled 'social media game' will 'change the crown forever' | Added 4 years ago | Source: CeleBitchy |

As we discussed, I found Kensington Palace?s video of Prince William signing letters for ANZAC Day to be somewhat creepy. To be clear, the simple fact that William marked the day was not creepy in and of itself. What was creepy was the weird POV perspective video. It?s all part of a larger social media strategy from the Cambridges. Theyre trying to be more engaged and to produce exclusive content for social media. They only started doing that when Meghan came around and they began to copy her. They even bought bot followers to compete with the popularity of the SussexRoyal Instagram, and they hired the Sussexes? old social media guy, David Watkins. So? guess who?s getting credit for revolutionizing the monarchy with her social media game?
Kate Middleton has upstaged sister-in-law Meghan Markle in a royal power play set to change the crown forever, claims an expert. Commentator Daniela Elser said the Duchess of Cambridge has been nailing the social media game while the world is distracted by the Harry and Meghan Show. She pointed to a video shared on Prince William and Kates Kensington Palace social media accounts over the weekend marking Anzac Day as a key example. The footage included the Duke writing letters to the Australian and New Zealand high commissioners on the national day of remembrance for both nations.
Ms Elser said the clip, which also featured an unseen flunkie zipped across London to deliver the missives along with homemade Anzac biscuits, showcased how quietly radical the Duchess can be. Writing for news.com.au, she said: It was indisputable proof of something that has become increasingly apparent of late: Kate is simply nailing the social media game right now. See, while royal news over the last year has nearly been wholly consumed by the ongoing Sussex melodrama, all TV tears, pouting, posturing and eye-popping business deals, something very interesting has been going on back in the UK. That is, while the eyes of the world were, by and large, glued to the Harry and Meghan Show, Kate has been revolutionising the royal social media game.
Ms Elser also highlighted a post shared by Kensington Royal at Easter as another case in point. Rather than the obvious imagery associated with the time of year, the Cambridges instead went with a cheeky video of a chocolate egg being smashed in reverse, she said.
The commentator added that Kates skills as an amateur photographer have also helped in the couples social media transformation. And are key going forward as they oversee a significant intellectual shift in the Firms image as they prepare to take charge in the years to come. Ms Elser added it is openness and realness and at times tongue-in-cheek humour that are the perfect way to ensure the monarchy continues to engage with the people.
[From The Daily Mirror]
The fact that the source for this mess is Australian somewhat surprised me. But sure, it?s easy to revolutionize the monarchy with social media when you?re A) copying from your sister-in-law and B) when you?re so thin-skinned and unhinged that you and your incandescent husband force the Sussexes to abandon their Instagram. What?s kind of crazy is that Kate and William really do have this enormous platform and they could use their social media very easily to highlight great causes and raise money for charity. Instead, we get bizarre egg-smashing videos and keen pie charts for Kate?s busy work.
Wishing you all a safe and happy Easter ? pic.twitter.com/kYwv79hrvV

| Duchess Kate 'really polished up her appearance over the last three years' | Added 4 years ago | Source: CeleBitchy |

For years now, whenever the Duchess of Sussex is in the news and the British media is being insanely nasty to her, there?s usually some weird counterprogramming coming out of Kensington Palace about the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge. Like, 9 out of 10 headlines are ?Meghan eats kittens for breakfast, Piers Morgan reacts? and then the tenth headline will be ?Duchess Kate loves the color pink!? So it is at the moment. With everything going down with the Sussexes right now, *someone* wants to remind us that we?ll soon be celebrating a decade of Duchess Kate. The Cambridges? ten-year wedding anniversary is coming up in April and so gird yourself for these sugary, vague fking articles about how Kate has only recently grown in confidence, or started picking out her own clothes, or wiping her own ass, or finally achieved the much-promised keenness. Here?s the current story: Kate has grown in confidence as a fashionista in the past three years. Weird timeline, tell me more.
As Kate Middleton gets ready to celebrate 10 years as a member of the royal family, one author explains why the Duchess of Cambridge is making style headlines now more than ever before.
I think she has become a lot more confident, Bethan Holt, author of The Duchess of Cambridge: A Decade of Modern Royal Style, says in the first issue of PEOPLE Royals. She started off quite tentatively finding her way and very conscious of her place in the family and I think as she has taken on more responsibility, you really see that in her clothing.
According to Holt, who also writes for the U.Ks Daily Telegraph, Kates clothing budget may have increased over the years but her overall style has simply gone up a notch. Shes always been very ladylike, elegant and put-together, but she has really polished up her appearance over the last three years.
It was after having Prince Louis in 2018 that Holt says Kate really started to take small but noticeable style risks. Arriving at the Victoria and Albert Museum in London to open a new photography center in October 2018, Kate wore a striking look by the British-based designer Erdem. Her checked midi-length boucle tweed dress had a slight off-the-shoulder neckline and featured crystal and pearl buttons. With her signature bouncy blowout, she accessorized the chic look with a cluster of sparkly brooches and sky-high red velvet heels.
Earlier that year, there had been subtle signs that Kate was on a style mission. At Louis christening in July, she wore an oversized embellished hatband by the British milliner Jane Taylor that sparked the beginnings of a millinery trend. It was on the Prada catwalk a few months later, says Holt, adding that while the padded hatband was divisive at first, it became her signature and much-copied look. Shes worn velvet ones, Zara ones ? shes really made it her own.
In the coming months, Kate continued to debut a new, more fashion-forward, polished look, wearing trousers (a first!) on numerous occasions, favoring up-and-coming designers and choosing bold pieces from luxe labels. Visiting a childrens center in Lambeth, London, in March 2019, she wore a vibrant lilac pussy-bow Gucci blouse, teamed with black wide-legged trousers and a matching lilac top handle bag from Aspinal London, a professional but glamorous look not seen before.
Over the years, Kate has often adopting a high-low approach to royal dressing. On an official visit to Ireland with Prince William last year, she wowed in a luxe sequin cocktail dress from The Vampires Wife and the following day wore a white Reiss coat, that she had kept in her closet for over 13 years.
That was a real stroke of genius, says Holt, who says the secret to Kates sartorial success is to look appropriately regal but never above her position. The Reiss coat was a reminder of the girl that she once was, before she had all these responsibilities and it was a really good example that clothes arent just clothes, they are telling a story.
[From People]
Again, ?she has really polished up her appearance over the last three years.? Nary a mention of the fashionable American who married Kate?s brother-in-law, the same person whose style Kate visibly began to copy and Single White Female. Meghan carried a cute handle-top bag and suddenly Kate had one too. Meghan wore trousers for her first outings and suddenly Kate wore them too. Meghan wears separates and suddenly Kate ditches the dowdy Victorian coatdresses and discovers separates as well. And on and on. It?s not really the case that Kate suddenly grew in confidence overnight either it?s that Meghan?s entrance on the scene changed the media landscape overnight. Suddenly every British paper was praising Kate to high heaven as the good duchess, the white duchess, the duchess who gets coddled and infantilized and never puts a foot wrong.

| Duchess Meghan to Kate & the rest of them: 'Rude and racist are not the same' | Added 4 years ago | Source: CeleBitchy |

Yesterday, I was still trying to summarize and cover all of the big moments from the Sunday night telecast of Oprah?s interview with the Duke and Duchess of Sussex when CBS This Morning began dropping all of these new exclusive clips. Oprah spent a good deal of time with the Sussexes in Montecito and I?ve heard that Oprah got something like three-and-a-half hours worth of footage. Which would be enough for TWO two-hour specials. Plus, I kind of want Meghan and Harry to do another interview about all of the lazy character assassinations of the past month. Anyway, my point is that I didn?t even get a chance to watch all of the new exclusive clips before now. One of the biggest headlines from the new clips is this one, where Meghan and Harry spoke at length about how the other royals simply didn?t *get* why M&H felt so attacked and vilified.
Meghan Markle thinks the scrutiny she and Kate Middleton received from the British press has one major difference. On Mondays CBS This Morning, more clips from Meghan and Prince Harry bombshell Oprah Winfrey interview aired, including one where the Duchess of Sussex discussed her sister-in-law. Meghan compared the U.K. press coverage of her to the wild, wild West, saying that the negativity spread like wildfire. All of that was compounded, Meghan said, by social media, her race and her nationality, putting things at a noise level that was very different than that of other royal family members.
Unfortunately, if members of his family say, Well, this is whats happened to all of us, or if they can compare what the experience that I went through was similar to Kate [being] called Waity Katie [for] waiting to marry William While I imagine that was really hard and I do, I cant picture what that felt like this is not the same. If a member of his family will comfortably say, Weve all had to deal with things that are rude, rude and racist are not the same.
Additionally, Meghan noted, her husbands family had a press team that goes on the record to defend you, especially when they know somethings not true, and that didnt happen for us.
[From ET]
Meghan?s subtweets of Kate were pretty great. The most immediate callback is when Buckingham Palace truly issued a statement denying Kate?s use of extensions. In recent years, ?never complain, never explain? always takes a backseat whenever Kate wants to deny going to a certain dermatologist for Botox, or when she throws an absolute hissy fit about a Tatler cover story which she authorized and then didn?t like the results. I also feel like there?s the other unspoken drama of the lengths with which Prince William went to shut down the Rose Hanbury stories. The point Meghan and Harry are making is pretty simple: if we were ever defended with the same enthusiasm which you defend Willy?s wandering sceptre or Kate?s hair of lies, then maybe things would be different. And yes, rude and racist are not the same thing.

| Duchess Kate has to make do with a nanny, a 'skeleton staff' & a videographer | Added 4 years ago | Source: CeleBitchy |

You guys, I?m starting to think that there?s no secret plan to be keen? The Duchess of Cambridge promised us a few months ago that she had more keen busy work to launch in 2021 around the Early Years. Thus far, all we?ve gotten is a story about a ?secret plan? to work, some quotes about how exhausted Kate is because of home-schooling her kids even with a staff, and a video about Children?s Mental Health Week which looked like it was filmed before she went on a jog. Keen Antoinette over here, I swear. Anyway, that video was super-weird and I?m enjoying how A) so many people just flatly ignored it and B) a handful of royal commentators are trying to make it sound like the video was amazing because Kate filmed it herself, the poor exhausted sausage. That?s why I looked at this Katie Nicholl story at Vanity Fair, to see if she had any new insights. Turns out, Nicholl?s sources say that poor Kate is having to make do with merely a ?skeleton staff,? a full-time nanny, her own dedicated videographer and a professional lighting rig. She?s just like us!
She has become a professional at Zoom calls during the lockdown, and now the Duchess of Cambridge has taken video calling one step further?doing her own outdoor broadcast. Kate Middleton turned the camera on herself while out on a walk in the Norfolk countryside, filming a video to raise awareness for Children?s Mental Health Week.
Kate?s unscripted message was one of her most natural video appearances, and a contrast to her usual videos where she is usually dressed up and in full makeup. Sources close to the Duchess say that Kate has become more confident in front of the camera and has learned to enjoy rather than dread video calls. She has set up a DIY shoot location at Anmer Hall in Norfolk, where the Cambridges are spending the lockdown, and apparently has a special stand for her laptop and a ring light to ensure the shot is well lit.
While Kate and William have their own videographer as part of their online team, they only have a skeleton staff at Anmer, including nanny Maria Borrallo who helps with home learning and meal times.
For the most part William and Kate have become self-sufficient at working from home, filming their virtual engagements by themselves. Vanity Fair has been told that Kate chooses her own outfits and even does her own hair and make-up. But for the Children?s Mental Health Awareness Week video she was keen to be outdoors and looking as normal and natural as possible. The Duchess has made a point of supporting families during the lockdowns. Last week she spoke to parents of a local primary school and chatted with them about some of the challenges of homeschooling, revealing that William had been her greatest support during the lockdown.
[From Vanity Fair]
Notice how Nicholl plays fast and loose with whether their videographer actually comes to Anmer Hall to help them shoot their Zoom calls ?For the most part William and Kate have become self-sufficient at working from home, filming their virtual engagements by themselves? meaning that they have had help at times from their office staff, and one would assume the ?skeleton staff? at Anmer. I feel bad for Nanny Maria, her role is always so minimized. She?s worked full-time for the Cambridge family for six or seven years now, and she?s played a huge role in the kids? lives and development, but Team Keen just wants it to sound like Maria is just there to pitch in sometimes when Kate is Zooming her fingers to the bone.
Tomorrow is the start of Children's Mental Health Week an opportunity to remind ourselves not just how important our own children's mental health is but also parental wellbeing too.
We look forward to sharing more about the year's theme of expressing yourself this week. pic.twitter.com/nQRmgkJWxM

I wondered how long it would be before we had some kind of reference to the Duke and Duchess of Sussex in the coverage and commentary around Prince William and Kate?s Pandemic Tour. I mean, from where I sit, the Keens? tour was horrible and full of the kind of maskless images which underlined the point that William and Kate are desperately out-of-touch and even dangerous to public health. But all of the keen PR minions are out in force, as I knew they would be. Royal commentator Angela Levin had some thoughts, and wouldn?t you know, Levin just had to reference Meghan and Harry.
Prince William and Kate Middleton have changed since Prince Harry and Meghan Markle stepped back as senior royals in March, a royal biographer has claimed. Speaking to talkRADIO, Angela Levin, went on to say how the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, both 38, who have recently embarked on a whistle-stop tour of the UK ahead of the Christmas holidays, seem to be more relaxed in recent months.
Speaking of Kate and William,, who shared a tender moment as they attended a Toast Your Own Marshmallow stall during a visit to Cardiff Castle on Tuesday, Angela claimed: When you see that with Kate and Williamwhen we saw them this morning, they were laughing. Kate was moving to the music and theyre very, very easy with each other. I think theres been a big change since Harry and Meghan have gone that they feel more relaxed. Maybe not under attack and they feel very much like a team, you can feel that.
The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge set off on their tour to pay tribute to the incredible work of individuals and organisations that have gone above and beyond in response to the coronavirus pandemic. And Angela Levin praised the couples decision, adding: I dont really like that expression but you can see that theyre natural together and they both are hoping to do the right thing at the right time. And the way they talk and interchange, sometimes he does and sometimes she does.
[From The Daily Mail]
First off, we?ve truly gotten to the point where the royal commentary is ?they spoke, and sometimes Kate says something and sometimes William says something, therefore they FUTURE KING AND FUTURE QUEEN!? That?s how low the bar is they were speaking to the peasants. That?s it.
As for the Sussex reference, I don?t even understand? ?I think theres been a big change since Harry and Meghan have gone that they feel more relaxed. Maybe not under attack and they feel very much like a team.? Will and Kate were never ?under attack? from Meghan and Harry. I will allow that Will and Kate FELT attacked by Harry and Meghan?s mere existence, their mere ability to outshine the lazy, dull Cambridges constantly. But it really is a situation where a Black woman was just existing and thriving and the white women felt ATTACKED by it. As for Levin?s point about how Will and Kate have relaxed more since the Sussexes left yeah. Of course Will and Kate relaxed. Their hate campaign worked. They wanted all the attention. So they got it.

Wall Street Journal writer/columnist Elizabeth Holmes has written a book based off her popular royal-fashion social media/column. The book is HRH So Many Thoughts on Royal Style. We talked about some of the excerpts before Holmes quoted Robert Lacey?s claims that the Queen?s hats are indicative of her ?indentured? servitude. Thus far, from the excerpts I?ve seen, Holmes? analysis of royal fashion is basically what all of us do here, only Holmes aims for perky positivity where we tend to go negative and button-shame and point out creepy cosplay. Well, Holmes? book apparently points out gently! that the Duchess of Cambridge really changed up her look as soon as Meghan Markle came around. No sh-t.
Nothing wrong with a little healthy competition! According to royal fashion expert and author Elizabeth Holmes, Kate Middleton definitely stepped up her style game when Meghan Markle came around.
?I think Kate kicked up her fashion game in the fall of 2018, certainly after the royal wedding of Harry and Megan,? Holmes tells Us while appearing on Us Weekly?s series ?Royally Us? to promote her new book HRH So Many Thoughts on Royal Style. ?Kate had just had Louie and she went away on maternity leave for a couple months and came back and suddenly had a little bit more fashion in her wardrobe.?
Though Holmes says that this change could have been due to a variety of things, it was certainly interesting timing. ?It?s impossible to say what inspired that,? she explains. ?It could be just sort of bouncing back after having a baby or that she was working with some new fashion advisers. But I do think that Megan on the scene sort of made everything more exciting for both of them. And I love that Kate kind of stepped up her game!?
[From Us Weekly]
Yeah, all of us who had been following Kate?s tortured style journey from Waity to Future Future Queen/Perfect Kate could plainly see that Kate really changed things up as soon as Meghan came around. I kind of disagree that Kate began the change after her last maternity leave it started earlier than that, basically as soon as it was confirmed that Harry and Meghan were dating. Kate had competition and she had someone to copy. I also think that she was purposefully doing a lot of repeats in 2018-19 because Meghan was getting so much bad press about the cost of her clothes.
Holmes also has an interview in Glamour where she talks about how her interest in royal fashion evolved. Some of her thoughts here were kind of interesting:
Kate was never a fashionista: ?Kate and Meghan have been the focus of my Instagram presence?Kate was somebody I?ve loved since 2011, and Meghan came on the scene as I was commenting on Instagram. Together they make a fascinating pair. I certainly don?t want to compare the two of them. Kate has grown into fashion, from what I understand; she began to embrace clothes and the power of clothes and draws a lot of attention for someone not naturally interested in fashion. She knows clothes are a part of her duties, and this is very similar to the Queen?s approach?using clothes as almost a uniform. I very much enjoy seeing the two of them and the similarities between their approaches.
How quickly Meghan changed the royal fashion game: ?With Meghan, I continue to be impressed and amazed by how quickly she?s picked up the power of royal fashion. She entered the family as a fully formed and very accomplished woman. She jumped right in. What she did during her time as a senior working royal, to see all that she did with her fashion in that short time?she fulfilled the traditional idea of what a royal woman should wear, but she also put her own spin on it, which I respect and admire. She found a way to make it her own.
Holmes identifies most with Meghan: ?I?d love to say I?m a Diana, but I don?t think I am. I?m not as much of a risk taker. I?d most identify with Meghan. I think what she introduced was a bit of modernity to the royal fashion equation. I followed Kate for a long time before Meghan started dating Harry, so I appreciate and admire her style, but it is such a traditionally royal look that I found it not realistic for my life. At the core, there?s a formality to what Kate wears. I appreciate that, and it?s extremely appropriate for her role as the future queen consort. But I look at my closet, and I look at these four women, and I see Meghan in there. Elevated but minimalistic, a chic, modern woman. She introduced a relaxed sophistication that we never really saw from Kate, and there?s real power in that. I?m excited for what Meghan is doing now. She?s made the royal fashion conversation much more interesting and much more modern.

I mean, Holmes isn?t wrong! Meghan brought a more modern look overall and you can still enjoy talking about Kate?s style AND acknowledge that she sometimes dresses like a Victorian doll. I also think Holmes pointed out something fundamental about Kate, which is that Kate doesn?t really have an interest in fashion or an interest in being stylish or modern. Kate has always been in this rut, almost like she?s too lazy to actually be fashionable. Also: Ive said this before, but its always been clear that Kate has never had to dress professionally for a job. She doesnt get work-wear or professional attire whatsoever. That comes from never holding a real job.

Last week, we were a bit overcome by the fact that the Duchess of Cambridge chose a very smart-looking black suit to tape a video for the Natural History Museum. The cut of the suit and the camisole underneath absolutely reminded everyone of a very similar look worn by the Duchess of Sussex in 2018. Pretty much as soon as Meghan came onto the scene, she began wearing trousers and slacks to various ?official? events. Which was great, because we?re not Edwardians and we can handle seeing a duchess in a pair of trousers. And as soon as Meghan began wearing trousers, Kate soon copied her. And yet, even then, the British media only had anger, hatred and angst about Meghan?s trousers. They tried to say that Meghan was ?breaking protocol,? and there?s some evidence to suggest that palace courtiers likely told Meghan to stop wearing pants too. Hilarious.
Anyway, several British and American outlets devoted some space to how Kate was blatantly copying Meghan?s look last week. And now this! People Magazine is running a story called ?Kate Middleton Just Wore Another Pantsuit ? But Are Her Chic Outfits Breaking Royal Protocol?? DO IT. Just say that Kate is Breaking The Holy Royal Protocol!!
Kate Middleton is rocking a power pantsuitagain! After Kate and Prince William stepped out to meet some of the finalists of her Hold Still photo project on Tuesday, the couple headed to film with British broadcaster and journalist Kate Garraway for the Pride of Britain Awards in London ? but not without a quick outfit change. The royal mom of three traded her long red coat by Alexander McQueen for a tailored blue suit paired with a light blue button-down. Just last week, Kate appeared in a video shot at Londons Natural History Museum in a black suit by McQueen, the designer behind her fairy tale wedding dress.
Despite many royal women around the world ? from Queen Maxima of the Netherlands to Queen Letizia of Spain ? adopting the trend of pantsuits, Queen Elizabeth almost never wears slacks for royal engagements. The 94-year-old monarch is said to not be a fan of the style.
Kates sister-in-law Meghan Markle often opted for slacks and a matching blazer for royal engagements. A source previously told PEOPLE that the Duchess of Sussex found certain rules in the royal household difficult to understand, like the fact that the Queen prefers women in dresses or skirts rather than trouser suits, and is often asking Harry why things have to be done in a certain way.
[From People]
At the end of the day, People doesn?t even say it outright, that Kate is not really ?breaking protocol? because I guess everyone would have to admit that Meghan wasn?t breaking protocol with all of her stuff either. Anyway, just further evidence that it?s completely insane to put a 90-something woman in charge of royal fashion, royal behavior and everything else. Who gives a sh-t if the Queen doesn?t like pants? Kate clearly doesn?t give a fk about what Petty Betty prefers anymore. Isnt that the real story??
