These photos - from the London photo call and premiere of The Ides of March - contain the best and the worst of Evan Rachel Wood, who is fast becoming one of my favorite girls to watch on the red carpet. It?s not that ERW is such an amazing fashion plate, or that she?s even getting it right most of the time - neither of those things are true. I love seeing her on the red carpet because she never fails to be interesting. She?s young (24), she?s still figuring out her style, and she?s all for experimenting. But what?s interesting is that she manages to be a total label whore, yet she looks like no one else on the red carpet.
For the photo call, ERW chose this black-and-white ?Alexa Chung by Madewell? dress with black tights and stellar black boots (that I want). The look is very retro, very Mary Quant, very Twiggy. I dislike the look as a whole, and yet? I think she looks great. Even the headband isn?t bugging me, and it would bug me on almost anybody else.
For the premiere, Evan chose to go back to her menswear-inspired thing (which she?s been rocking a lot lately), but she did it in a new way, opting for a beautiful pencil skirt and a very structured, puffy-sleeved ?statement? jacket which I HATE. It?s really, really ugly, and yet? she comes really close to pulling it off. How does she do that?
I should also note a few more things - Evan?s makeup is AMAZING. I don?t know if she travels with her makeup artist or if she just knows how to do amazing makeup herself, but I would take lessons from whoever was responsible for this. Also: Evan?s side-eye at George Clooney is one of the best things ever, next to Philip Seymour Hoffman simply being himself.

She?s not the most obvious Justin Bieber fan, but it turns out Evan Rachel Wood has been practicing the teen idol?s songs.
Ms. Wood was on ?Late Night with Jimmy Fallon? last night (October 5) when she decided to give the audience a taste of her Bieber Fever.
Evan confidently sang ?Baby? while The Roots played the back-up music, and she actually sounded pretty darn good.
Of her obsession with Bieber, Wood told Marie Claire magazine, ?I saw the movie [Never Say Never], and that?s what did it. I ended up seeing it three times ? in the theaters. One of those times was the director?s cut, I?m not even kidding. I got obsessed with the kid.?

Evan Rachel Wood is profiled in both of the November issues of GQ and Elle Magazine. Never a cover girl, always an interview. Thankfully, I?m not feeling the Jolie so strongly in Evan these days (but there?s still some faint Jolie stuff happening). Evan is trying to carve out a new identity for herself, I think. And it?s mostly working. She?s post-Marilyn Manson, with one of the most promising careers in Young Hollywood. When you think about Evan might even be in a stronger position, career-wise, than other young talents like Mia Wasikowska and Jessica Chastain. She?s on that level, I believe. Plus, Evan gives good interviews, she?s interesting on the red carpet and she gives good photo. All of a sudden, she?s everywhere and she?s interesting but not famewhorey about it. Basically, I like this new Evan. Here are the highlights from both her Elle and GQ articles:
Evan on the roles she chooses: ?I always want to do things that reflect where I am. I do the roles that give me butterflies.?
Evan on her nude scenes: ?I learned that I needed to control the situation in order not to be too self-conscious. I said to myself, I?m an awesome naked lady, and there?s an energy that I?m going give off right now that lets you know how you?re going to feel about this.?
ERW on her Ides of March character, where she sleeps with multiple guys in a matter of weeks: ?I don’t think she’s actually ashamed of what she did. It’s strange: The one thing that could take down any politician is sleeping with the intern. But it has nothing to do with being a good politician.?
ERW on Anthony Weiner: ?The secret lives of politicians are always shady. People need to accept the fact that their leaders aren’t perfect. No one is.?
ERW on how her bi-sexuality is for real: ?No, that’s for real. I’ve been that way since I can remember. I remember growing up and loving when I knew there was a girl like me who I looked up to. I figured I should return the favor. You don’t have to be ashamed.?

I also love her naked pep talk to herself: ?I?m an awesome naked lady, and there?s an energy that I?m going give off right now that lets you know how you?re going to feel about this.? I need to give myself that pep talk more often.

Here are some more photos from last night?s LA premiere of The Ides of March - I already covered the Stacy Keibler/George Clooney stuff here. Considering that Keibler made an effort to look less busted, you?d think that the female stars of the film would try to elevate their style game too. Maybe this is Evan Rachel Wood?s attempt at elevating her game - an attempt and a fail. Look, I don?t have any problems with Evan?s recent attempts to really bring menswear to the red carpet this season. I like that such a young woman is trying such a ?grown up? and professional look, and I like that she?s so covered up too. But this particular suit look was a fail. It?s a combination of things - for one, the suit?s cut is unflattering, especially the ?drape? of the pants. It?s just awful on a young woman with a nice figure. And then there?s the way she styled the look, with the overworked hair, the too-heavy makeup, the bustier AND the big necklace. She went overboard.
Marisa Tomei improved on her look, though. I love her in shades of red - she?s so pretty, and I believe she?s natural too.
And here?s some Ryan Gosling in green. Thoughts on Ryan?s style? I like that he?s a young guy who?s learning how to dress for formal occasions. I like that he always wears a suit for his premieres. I like that he?s learned how to care about style. That being said, this suit looks like it was made from Army fatigues.

I was surprised when Evan Rachel Wood lost for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Miniseries - I thought she was a lock! Evan might have thought she was a lock too, because look at this stunning dress. This is the kind of dress you wear when you think you’re going to win. It?s Elie Saab, and I love it. ERW has been going through a menswear-inspired phase, wearing lots of pantsuits and tailored pieces, so I was surprised to see her in this vintage-looking gown.
Can I just say something? A lot of you defend someone like Kristen Stewart when she slouches and eye-rolls her way through a red carpet, claiming that it?s just nice to see a young actress who isn?t flashing her bits and pieces. My rebuttal: Evan Rachel Wood. A young woman with a killer body, dressed conservatively and elegantly, and like she?s still figuring out her style, but like she cares very much about how she presents herself. Does she look older than her 24 years? Sure. But I like that about her too. She can pull off this ?older? look without looking like a kid who got into her mom?s makeup.
My one complaint? The hair. The hair is a miss. She chopped it off months ago, and in Toronto and Venice, Evan was mostly doing it spiky and mussed-up. I would have liked to see a more David Bowie hair style with this dress, because these pin curls (? Is that what they are??) are not the most flattering. The hair makes her neck look thick, right?
I added a little Guy Pearce too, just because.

Evan Rachel Wood has a very interesting interview in the new issue of Marie Claire (the one with Reese on the cover). ERW is promoting The Ides of March, which comes out very soon. I know some of you don?t like her, but? she?s growing on me. I think she was thrown into a level of fame at a very young age, and she?s grown up to be a relatively well-adjusted young woman. Part of my high opinion of her comes from her sheer talent - she?s one of the few actresses in their early 20s making a serious mark. I could see Evan as an Oscar contender at some point (very soon). Anyway, here are some highlights from Marie Claire?s piece:
George Clooney the actor or George Clooney the director ? which do you prefer?
He’s amazing as both. Quite honestly, I wish every movie I worked on was a George Clooney movie ? him directing, that is. It was a stupid amount of fun.
How so?
He just surrounds himself with really great, smart, laid-back funny people with good energy. He loved to keep the camera rolling when we didn’t know it was on. I’m pretty sure he has me dancing to Justin Bieber on film. We were playing around and joking with Ryan [Gosling] off-camera and started doing this dance. It got really quiet, then George poked his head around the corner and said, “Enjoy the DVD!”
Are you saying you’re a Justin Bieber fan?
Yes, that I am. I saw the movie [Never Say Never], and that’s what did it. I ended up seeing it three times ? in the theaters. One of those times was the director’s cut, I’m not even kidding. I got obsessed with the kid. It’s going to be weird if I ever meet him. He’s brought so much joy to my life.
In Ides of March you join an enviable group of ladies who’ve gotten to make out with Ryan Gosling. Is it really as great as we all imagine?
Yeah, it was awesome. We had fun. Ryan’s amazing because he has this way about him that’s incredibly attractive, not just in a sexy way but he’s smart, he’s cool, he’s talented, he’s really creative, and he has this mysterious quality to him that drives people crazy. So yeah, it wasn’t a hard day at work.
Your character is very sexually forward for an intern.
I swear to God I was channeling George a little bit in those moments. He has a very calm, quiet, direct way about him, and I think that’s what he wanted for the character. Just very in control.
Let’s talk about Broadway’s Spiderman: Turn Off the Dark. You were supposed to play Mary Jane under the direction of your friend Julie Taymor. Has it been hard to watch her get dragged through the mud?
I don’t think it’s fair from where I’m standing, but I don’t know the whole story since I wasn’t there. I’d been attached to it for years, and I was missing out on jobs because I thought I was going to be on Broadway. I finally just had to say, ?I’ve got to take a job!’ But Julie’s vision is amazing and the things about her in the show are incredible. Visually, it’s brilliant.
When you were with Marilyn Manson, did you actually call him Marilyn?
No, I called him Manson. Or just Babe.
Did you ever say, ?Hey, babe, maybe all eyes can be on me for once ? can’t I be the one to stand out?’
No. I think that would be impossible to do anyway. I don’t like eyes on me, so I was fine giving that up.
Are you glad you didn’t go through with the marriage?
I am glad ? for both of us. We both have a lot more growing to do. I don’t think it would’ve been right, but I am glad that we were engaged. I think we needed to make a statement to each other that it was legit. So that was good.
Since then you’ve come out as being bisexual.
Yeah, that’s a big part of who I am, and it always has been for as long as I can remember. I can’t say I’m one way or the other because I’ve honestly fallen in love with a man and I’ve honestly fallen in love with a woman. I don’t know how you label that, it’s just how it is.
Have you had a serious relationship with a woman?
Yes. And it was wonderful. I mean, it was terrifying at first. Not because I thought it was wrong but just because I was intimidated by women. It’s a totally different arena! The approach is completely different than it is with a man but I finally let myself say, “You’ve got to go for this. It’s in you and it’s not going away.” And it was wonderful.
You were photographed seeing the show with your ex Jamie Bell. Does that mean you two are back on?
I mean, I’ve got his initial tattooed on my ankle, so?
You’ve got a lot of tattoos, though!
Yeah, I seriously have to count sometimes. I think I want to get the one on my ankle removed because it’s huge! It’s technically my first tattoo, which is always the worst one. It’s like the first pancake. The bad news is you can’t throw it out.

There?s some Angelina Jolie happening here, right? It?s not just my imagination? The tattoos, the inappropriate relationships, the bisexuality, the confessional interviews? it?s very Jolie.
About being with Jamie Bell - they were just recently pap?d together in Venice Beach. I like Jamie a lot (he?s in the Fassbender Jane Eyre!), but they both look kind of crackie in this photo. Hopefully Jamie is a nice boy, though. Nicer than Marilyn Manson, in any case.

Evan Rachel Wood turns 24 today. She celebrated last night in Europe by getting her tooth knocked out. Happy birthday!
Wood was with friends in Paris when they hit up a local spot for music and dancing. One of the dancers got a little wild with her elbows and hit Wood in the mouth, knocking out her tooth and giving her a fat lip. Wood is already meeting with a dentist to get a new tooth and will continue her press tour forIdes of March.

Evan Rachel Wood has had a storied dating history. She was famously on and off with Marilyn Manson, 42, getting engaged to him briefly before coming to her senses last summer. During a break from her Manson phase she was linked to her delectable True Blood costar Alex Skarsgard, 34, later semi-confirming their romance. And before Manson she was said to be seeing her Down in the Valley costar Ed Norton, 41. So I would say that Wood, 23, prefers older guys, but she also dated Joseph Gordon Levitt during a break from Manson in 2008 and he’s only 30. So her tastes are varied except for going for hot men that are at least a few years older than she is. (Three out of four wouldn’t be bad if she didn’t waste so much time with Manson.)
Anyway Wood is now dating Jamie Bell, 25, a British actor who you might know from Billy Elliott and more recently The Eagle with Channing Tatum. He’s grown up very well and he’s super hot. I love that these two are dating and it makes it seem like Wood’s tastes have matured quite a bit. Here’s the story from US Weekly. I guess they dated five years ago, before she ended up with Manson.
Five years after splitting, Evan Rachel Wood, 23, has reunited with British actor Jamie Bell, 25. The True Blood star “always felt bad things didn’t work out the first time,” an insider says of the couple’s romance, which lasted for a year after they met on the set of a 2005 Green Day video. Adds another source “Jamie was so good to her and always wanted her back.” For now, the pair seem inseparable. On June 30, they strolled arm in arm in NYC, on July 2, they took in a showing of Broadway’s Spiderman: Turn off the Dark.
US Weekly has photos of Evan and Jamie out together in matching fedoras and they just look adorable. (You can see one of those pics here.) US also reports that they “still have matching tattoos of each others initials,” presumably from their first go-around. That’s kind of sweet.
I bet this rekindled romance is behind Evan’s new look. Evan chopped off her hair into a messy pixie cut in late June and she just looks so strikingly pretty. Here are some new photos of her in Dolce and Gabanna at an event last night. I’ve never seen anyone work an 80s look so well. The girl has fabulous style. On someone else that outfit might look ridiculous, I mean she’s wearing leggings with stars on them paired with a Dennis Hopper t-shirt, and her hair is puffed up into a pompadour but Evan just works it into next week.

The cast of True Blood had their premiere party in LA last night and the entire cast attended. The most notable was Evan Rachel Wood because she chopped her hair off and got a pixie cut like Emma Watson. Ugh. Now what am I going to pull on?
Of course, Evan Rachel Wood recently came out as a bisexual which clearly means she has to dress the part. She told Esquire,
“Yes,” she said when asked if she dates women. “I grew up in love with David Bowie. So I was always into very androgynous things. Guys, girls… I’m into androgyny in general.”
Well congratulations. Mission accomplished. You’ve succeeded in looking androgynous and letting me know lesbians prefer chicks who could be mistaken for dudes. Which is strange because I always thought that much like straight men, they’d be really into hot chicks.

I used to not care much for Evan Rachel Wood, but she?s grown on me considerably over the past year. While I still think her love life is sketchy (Marilyn Manson, etc), I also think she?s one of best young actresses working today, and more than anything, I want her to continue to do good work and grow into a more confident woman who dates men who are good for her. These are photos of ERW at last night?s ?premiere? of the new season of True Blood. ERW wore this odd Dolce & Gabbana ensemble which? eh. She?s the face of Gucci?s Guilty, so I guess she?s trying to mix it up. I think it?s a little obvious, though - she just got a short new haircut and color, so why go full-on drag king with a menswear-inspired ensemble?
As for the hair? look at this:
It?s a cute, choppy little cut, and she?s poofed out the top part, like she?s David Bowie or something. It?s going to be hell to grow out, but with that face? maybe it will work without being awkward.
Sigh? I always wonder, when a young girl suddenly chops off her hair, whether it?s a reflection of some kind of turmoil in her personal life. Yes, sometimes it?s just about needing a change, or simply liking an easy little haircut. But this is Evan? she?s got plenty of drama. We?ll find out soon enough, I think.
